@@fatarchon They're I started making them for myself as they were just my own personal project for a narrative campaign I was doing with some friends, and then I suddenly had an army's worth of stuff and decided to upload it.
Tip with the Battleshock in Fight Phase relic. Put it on a termi lord with termi brick to use as tarpit on an objective. If someone charges them they'll have to test battleshock if you live. This means they might not be able to take your objective away for secondaries and can mean they're BS'd during YOUR turn (it lasts until your enemies command phase) and can help secure point's. It's suuuper handy.
That's a smart tip! I finished a match after recording this video & yeah, the more tests you can force the better - that & having a big brick to weather the storm is invaluable so I like it!
Quick corrections: - I misspoke, Winged Daemon Prince is (was?) 180pt, Foot ver is the one that's 165pt - Warp Talons can't use rr h/w, that's *shooting* only! Darn they only rr wounds :P - We didn't have the datasheet for Noise Marines when I recorded this but now that we know they still cause BS they're very much a unit to look into Also, I think if I was going to optimize the Nurgle list more I'd drop the Plaguebearers + Bilepiper & bring Nurglings instead. Probably needs more AT too. Heck I'd bring Nurglings in every list!

Glad you got to see it man! Agree completely, I talk them up a lot in the video but I just see them as a firmly solid detachment. I almost wish they had just gotten a small little 'push' with their detachment rule (add MWs or have it affect *all* Leadership Tests, something like that) but that might've pushed them over the edge. Either way they're unique, their legion history is badass & they look like a lot of fun!!
You forgot the Noise Marines unit. They can make Battleshock test at shooting phase. And if you want, you can make them like battleline unit with Lucius warlord in Emperor Children index rules.

as for Raptors and warp talons, do as me. get 2 boxes of warp talons, then get a box of HH jump marines and convert them to Raptors with the spare bits. you get 10 warp talons and 10 raptors and even save money :D
Ah man, I wish I knew that before recording because ya that's great advice lol. I forgot how useful HH can be for collecting infantry & the sort in general - makes them look unique too!
Loved this video. I included a knight abominant in the list too alongside some obliterators. For indirect damage and dishing out mortals even if the enemy is hidden.
Oh man I love the Abominant's model so much, so great choice 😜 I've been toying around with a meme list that runs maxxed Oblits + Abaddon in Pactbound Zealots to see how ridiculous of Indirect I could get. You can even include some Daemons to get even more in there... I really want to try it, might be annoying for my opponent though

I'm looking to bring this detachment all summer. Everyone is gonna sleep on this detachment and I look forward to popping up and causing battleshock all over. Just the ability to drop down 3 inches away and battleshock a unit is enough for me. Some people may not see the value but it's there
I was still quite hyped for Dread Talons but as time has gone for people to look over the rules and especially the points you’ve brought up in this video, Dread Talons are not the strongest but they bring a lot for fluff alone and a few rules that could help them stand in Tournaments. I’m excited to try them out, the amount of lists and combos. A heavier emphasis on souping daemons is also gonna be great. I wouldn’t be surprised if any list that makes it far in tournaments are not the same, all different combos to take advantage of battle shock. Awesome video like always!
Hey there Fat Archon, big fan of your videos, if anyone else in the community would like to chime in please be my guest! I have a general question / combo idea for you to consider for Deceptors. My group is practicing for tournament play, and I wanted to 3d print/paint some alpha legion before the codex is all the way out. I wanted to know if there's anything else I should be considering or if you like the ideas here maybe you can steal some for your tactica for deceptors. Right now the list looks like: Jump pack Lord with Shroud Chaos Lord in Termie Armor with Soul Link Dark Commune Master of Exec with Cursed Fang Master of Exec Sorcerer in Termie Armor 20+10+10 Cultists 10+10+5 Legionaries (Meltagun + Havoc Autocannon) 10+10 Chaos Termie Squad 3+3+3 Nurglings So the main idea is use the nurglings and cultists as a tar pit for the legionaries to charge into T2 so I can get a +3 charge from the strat. This lets my Sorcerer Termie Squad hit a 6 inch charge with a reroll, and the termie lord can let me do that again to his squad. So the main squeeze is that turn 2 brutal counter charge with the terminators and win on points, and of course I can be more tricky with using my cultists as screens or nurglings as action monkeys. Also the chaos lord can afterwards switch to Master of Exec once they are wading though melee, get a 6 inch consolidation, or steal the death hex because 12 inches ain't very long. The other idea I had was cut the termie lord and his squad and instead bring a 10 man of warp talons and 2 predator annihilator/destructor. Then use the jump pack lord instead to double the strat and give talons a +3 to their charge roll. I know it's definitely a skew list of sorts but the main battleplan is setting up that juicy T2 and scoring really strong in the first half and just trying to keep units alive and trade for the second half. Let me know your thoughts.
Hey man! Tyvm for the kind words, can't tell you how much I appreciate those sorts of comments so it's appreciated For the list, it looks like you know your stuff! If I'm being upfront, I would definitely consider going with the latter option that drops some of the Termies for the Talons + Predators. Both of those units are top tier whereas I've (personally!!) never really been a fan of Terminators for "serious" comp play; the cost to damage ratio just isn't there & for the pints your paying you could buy *multiple* units that do the same or better dmg - granted nowhere as durable. Talons are just a windmill slam auto include for practically every list, 10 of them (if you ever went that route) would do god knows how much more damage than the Termies while being comparable in survivability with their constant uppy downy. Mixed in with the charge strat & they really have some oomph My fear with Deceptors is how flimsy they're going to be, so while Termies is the right idea I like to look more into vehicles as my meaty distraction. The preds would be great for this as otherwise you don't have much ranged power from the initial list, tho do consider Vindicators as well If you did stick with Termies I might split them into 2-3 MSU instead, for *me* I'd play them mainly for camping on objectives & while it's less wounds that'd give me more pts to drop on other units. I do like Soul Link with a term lord tho, I hadn't even considered that one But yeah I think you have the right idea. A core of forward deploying annoying aholes backed up with real threats your opponent needs to deal with or else they're just going to steamroll PS: let me know how whichever list you end up using works out for you & I might very well bring it up in my Deceptors vid!

I have seen people talking about 60 raptors/warp talons and they are going to be the first to cry foul when GW bumps their points cost up. Kind of like how ork players are going to cry when they bump up the price on meganobs next time around. Ave is pronounced "Ah-Vay." Its Latin, like the song "Ave Maria."
Jump pack spam, a couple of JP lords, DP w/ wings, 2x B.Horrors, 2x Noise and Vashtorr for the hazardous debuff and chiping wounds around to trigger the BS tests
okay, so i come back to this video regularly, because I'm still making dread talon list and this video is still great! I was wondering however, how come you didn't talk about the chaos sorcerer? he gets free "night's shroud" enhancement and he gets leadership shenanigans to do d3 mortal wounds on shooting and melee, and if you have raptors nearby, which you probably will those LD tests will be on a 7 instead of a 6. put him on a unit of 10 chosen and with their 3 wounds, they suddenly get real hard to get rid of

Right in the feels 😘 For the Sorcerer, I think he's deceptively good esp when you consider he's only 60pt, I've ran him in a few lists & he's always gotten his points worth. I think his issue is just all the competition he's got, it's hard to sneak him in when there's a bunch of flashier options to pick through hah. That said I do thinks he better than even I gave him credit for, -1tH is one of the better debuffs out there... You're making me want to run 30 Legos w/Sorcerers now though Edit: One of my favorite CSM lists do far has been Fellhammer Siege Host with maxxed out Legos + sorcs btw
I would recommend looking at Noice Marines, as if the rule stay the same, cause battleshock after they are done shooting, allowing for melee units to get benefits in the fight phase. You could even split fire to cause 5-10 different units to take tests. Edit, I reread the rule, and the split fire does not work. Thank you for the corrections.

I was very much looking at them but I wasn't sure they'd keep the rule so I was hesitant to bring them up, but great point to in case they do keep their ability - they'd be a top contender at that point. . Tbh they were some of the best infantry CSM has access too. I did check their rule real quick & they can only cause BS to a single unit but obviously that's still really good when they have such a good loadout + the range (& don't require a Bloodletter tax!)
For your request of our opinions or methods to play, I intend to run full squads or f Legionaries split into groups of 5 with double heavy melee weapons and all that jazz to better be able to trigger the additional AP1 strat. That and keeping a squad of Raptors near by most units to lend additional firepower and then charge or do actions, mainly to leverage the leadership debuff. I'm still not convinced that it will be a great detachment but I'm keen to learn it.
That'd be a great combo with Dread Talons, not only for the damage but it'd take pressure off the rest of your dudes. Warpsmith should be able to keep the Lone Op for a decent while next to him too
Nice video, I didn't consider Nugle at all. I hope the Chaos Knights codex buffs the Abominant, a good version of it could also fit this detachment very well. I'm currently working on my nightlords amry with some tzeentch stuff. What is your opinion on Chosen in this detachment. They are mobile with decent shooting and could attach either a lord or even Abbadon (who also has a chance to get a CP or two per game)
These are some of my favorite kinds of comments, I love hearing give people more food for thought for their army so tyvm for the feedback. I like Tzeentch more myself but with how cheap Nurgle is they're right there with them strength with For Chosen, they're perfectly fine! I'm not floored by them atm mainly because 80pt Legos (currently) exist but I think they're a good substitute if you want to 'upgrade' them. They'll SHRED when Depthless Cruelty manages to go off & 3W is obviously great. Tbh I might consider Fabius Bile with them too; blanking a wound, giving +1 S/T & getting back up for ~85pt is wild efficient on them. I def think this army can make use of a big scary distraction unit of some type because otw it's not that hard to lose all your Raptors fairly quickly. Chosen or Possessed or anything like that would work great
Commenting again, have a game on Sunday. I'm putting will breaker on the termie sorcerer with a 10 man brick. The idea will be to bait my enemy into charging me on their turn hoping to battleshock them for my turn
Yeah I'm wondering if I underestimated Will breaker, it plays directly into the detach rules + helps with primary/secondary play! Either way good luck on your game man
Professor Archon, would you please update your Death Guard list with Miasma's and what you would run for Daemons. Plague Bearers for Battleline with Rottigus in the middle of the board; or, Nurglings for cheap and Plague Drones? Or alternatively, Pactbound Zealots with maxed Death Guard, in a Nurgle thematic list ... I have never played Daemons, but I have A LOT of Death Guard, and while not as tricky as the trim on Night Lords, and are a lot more forgiving with painting mistakes (they're gross anyway) took a lot of work. Lastly, en lieyu of Patreon, could you rig a Ko-Fi account, a lot of people like paying lump sum for work, instead of by the hour - on surface, seems a more intermittent income stream but allows for impulse pay, in the moment, as it were - just a thought.
I have the wargames exclusive jump lord with the thunder hammer. I don’t think the hammer is legal currently but I won’t remodel him if I get around to painting him any time soon
Shoot I got you :) I wrote it up kind quick for ya but I'd consider something along the lines of: - Jump Lord w/uppy downy relic - Cultists - Raptors w/Melta x3 - Warp Talons x2 - Bikers w/Melta x2 - Venomcrawlers x2 Tbh you prolly want to find a way to sneak in some AT. Probably drop the Bikers + shuffle other stuff around for a Predator or Vindicator or Havocs etc but even as is I think this list would play into their detachment :)
Emperors Children, dread talons detachment: run 6 x squads of noise marines, split fire and cause 12 per shooting phase PS: i finally have a reason to use all 30 raptors lol😂
Aw man I wish I didn't have to be the bearer of bad news but you can only select a single unit they shot hah, otw that'd be busted good because you'd just split every single model & hit 60 different units if you wanted 😜 Still, I dig your style. Especially 30 Raptors hah (I love those guys)

Someone actually sent me the math hammer on the Knight Abominant the other day & it had really good efficiency compared with CSM. Model looks badass too so yes I very very much dig your style lmao
Only problem with the Jump Lord is that he's 120pts in the book. The Loyalist equivalent is 80pts, and I don't see him dropping by 33%. He's *so expensive*
It's really silly to me how GW handles the points values but what's printed in the Codex is rarely what the actual pt values end up being, so there's at least some hope there. I'll be upfront that I'm not certain what the precedent is for brand new units (I suppose I could look up Kroot...) but yeah 120pt would be way too high so hopefully that's not the case!! Edit: OK I looked it up, Lone Spear was 110pt in book but 90 when released so we might still be in business!

Currently their rule says "select one enemy unit" so if you split fire only one unit takes the test

Klos also does battleshock and obviously shores up damage issues and warp smith to aid him does targetted battleshocks on vehicles.

For Chosen, they're perfectly fine! I'm not floored by them atm mainly because 80pt Legos (currently) exist but I think they're a good substitute if you want to 'upgrade' them. They'll SHRED when Depthless Cruelty manages to go off & 3W is obviously great. Tbh I might consider Fabius Bile with them too; blanking a wound, giving +1 S/T & getting back up for ~85pt is wild efficient on them. I def think this army can make use of a big scary distraction unit of some type because otw it's not that hard to lose all your Raptors fairly quickly. Chosen or Possessed or anything like that would work great
Commenting again, have a game on Sunday. I'm putting will breaker on the termie sorcerer with a 10 man brick. The idea will be to bait my enemy into charging me on their turn hoping to battleshock them for my turn
Yeah I'm wondering if I underestimated Will breaker, it plays directly into the detach rules + helps with primary/secondary play! Either way good luck on your game man
Professor Archon, would you please update your Death Guard list with Miasma's and what you would run for Daemons. Plague Bearers for Battleline with Rottigus in the middle of the board; or, Nurglings for cheap and Plague Drones? Or alternatively, Pactbound Zealots with maxed Death Guard, in a Nurgle thematic list ... I have never played Daemons, but I have A LOT of Death Guard, and while not as tricky as the trim on Night Lords, and are a lot more forgiving with painting mistakes (they're gross anyway) took a lot of work. Lastly, en lieyu of Patreon, could you rig a Ko-Fi account, a lot of people like paying lump sum for work, instead of by the hour - on surface, seems a more intermittent income stream but allows for impulse pay, in the moment, as it were - just a thought.
Another sleeper/meme unit is the noctilithe crown, with its dimensions it would put over half the table in the aura if you position it correctly

I have the wargames exclusive jump lord with the thunder hammer. I don’t think the hammer is legal currently but I won’t remodel him if I get around to painting him any time soon
Lol I googled it real quick & that guy looks sick. I wouldn't worry about the hammer, maybe at a tournament but otherwise Rule of Cool > All :P

Shoot I got you :) I wrote it up kind quick for ya but I'd consider something along the lines of:
- Jump Lord w/uppy downy relic
- Cultists
- Raptors w/Melta x3
- Warp Talons x2
- Bikers w/Melta x2
- Venomcrawlers x2
Tbh you prolly want to find a way to sneak in some AT. Probably drop the Bikers + shuffle other stuff around for a Predator or Vindicator or Havocs etc but even as is I think this list would play into their detachment

Someone actually sent me the math hammer on the Knight Abominant the other day & it had really good efficiency compared with CSM. Model looks badass too so yes I very very much dig your style lmao
The knight is perfect. The mortal wound chip damage is super powerful for triggering battle shocks
Only problem with the Jump Lord is that he's 120pts in the book. The Loyalist equivalent is 80pts, and I don't see him dropping by 33%. He's *so expensive*
It's really silly to me how GW handles the points values but what's printed in the Codex is rarely what the actual pt values end up being, so there's at least some hope there. I'll be upfront that I'm not certain what the precedent is for brand new units (I suppose I could look up Kroot...) but yeah 120pt would be way too high so hopefully that's not the case!! Edit: OK I looked it up, Lone Spear was 110pt in book but 90 when released so we might still be in business!
I dont think he'd be end up costing that...that is a price for an Epic Hero like Morven Vahl not for a generic Captain....probably will cost 80-90
