      @@jonfreeman9682once you have done major blockbuster films you expect the same sort of success and budgets after he bombed with other films he likely didnt want to go down on his qoute and budget and struggled to find work. From there he prob lost his agent and once you dont have representation in Hollywood its almost impossible to get a studio to take you seriously. Not to mention there might have been a reputation for him being difficult to work with which is a death knell in Hollywood. Hard to comeback from that

    Why is everyone trippin' about this movie? This one wasn't bad at all. Willem Defoe plays an awesome villain here. The laugh at the end before his demise and of course my fav lines from him:

    I recall reading an article about Under Siege 2 that mentioned its script was originally intended to be Speed 2. What stuck in my mind was it saying: 'Under Siege 2 filmed with a script intended for Speed 2; Speed 2 filmed with a script intended for Die Hard 3; Die Hard 3 filmed with a script intended for Lethal Weapon 4; and Lethal Weapon 4 was simply filmed without a script.'

    • @jonfreeman9682
      @jonfreeman9682 17 วันที่ผ่านมา +6

      Yeah a lot of writers share ideas and often are brought in to improve the script so it's not surprising many of these scripts were swapped around. Under siege 2 IMO is still Steven Seagal's best film ever. A lot of the 90s action films like die hard and lethal weapon shared many of the same writers. Truly an epic era of action films.

  • @IncredibleFulk1
    @IncredibleFulk1 17 วันที่ผ่านมา +7

    While not relevant to the video, I do have the point this out.
    Jan De Bont was originally attached to direct the first American Godzilla film then known as Godzilla 1994. De Bont was very passionate about the project and even hired the legendary Stan Winston to create the look for Godzilla, the mold still exists today.
    Unfortunately, Jan De Bont had a falling out with Tristar due to creative differences and budget reasons.
    The project eventually evolved into Roland Emmerich’s (in)famous Godzilla 1998 which remains a controversial entry for the series.
    Jan De Bont was sad his film never came to be and still considers G94 as the one that got away as he was a fan of the character and had extremely ambitious ideas for the film. The script is online.
    It really makes me wonder how Jan De Bont’s career would have been had done Godzilla 1994? We could have gotten three epic blockbusters from him in the 90’s along with Speed and Twister. He probably wouldn’t have done Speed 2.

    Contrary to what this guy said, Jason Patric’s career didn’t end in Speed 2.
    He starred in Your Friends & Neighbors (1998), Narc (2002), The Alamo (2004), My Sister's Keeper (2009), and The Losers (2010).
    Jan De Bont didn’t quit Hollywood. He’s still active, and was supposed to direct The Meg, the Mulan live-action movie, and he’s produced big titles such as Minority Report and Equilibrium. He’s also one of the executive producers of the current TV series Liberty or Death: Boston Tea Party on Fox Nation.

    WarnerBros would actually go on to hire Jason Patric for 4 more theatrical releases after 'Speed 2.' He would then work with some of the best Bafta and Emmy nominated directors (John Lee Hancock, Joe Carnahan, Neil LaBute, John Badham) and Oscar winning producers (Tom Cruise, Ron Howard, Joel Silver, Paul Haggis) for Disney and Paramount. He did 'Speed 2' so that he could finance 'Your Friends & Neighbours' for which he managed to sign an all-star cast (Ben Stiller, Aaron Eckhart, Catherine Keener, Amy Brenneman) purely out of respect for his method work on 'Rush' and 'After Dark My Sweet' (the film that made Sandra Bullock want to work with him no matter what). His switch to non-studio movies didn't start until 2011 until his theatrical return in this year's 'Terrifier 3.' He was offered a massive studio contract deal after 'Lost Boys' released and declined it as he preferred to work only on projects with scripts that he respected himself.

      @jonfreeman9682 17 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      He's an underrated actor and did some excellent work on film and I even enjoyed his turn in Wayward Pines. Speed 2 wasn't successful because the script was lousy. The idea of speed on a ship 🚢 just doesn't work.

    • @thetalentof
      @thetalentof 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@jonfreeman9682 Agreed, I was pleasantly surprised with how good he was and just how good Wayward Pines was in general. For me, isolating >3000 potential victims in the middle of the ocean is far more epic and certainly helps to raise the stakes, also getting a method actor instead of a movie star as the lead is an interesting choice for a commercial movie and doesn't happen very much (except for Bale in 'Terminator Salvation,' Liotta in 'No Escape,' Barry Pepper in 'Knockaround Guys' and Viggo Mortensen in 'A History of Violence'). Dafoe is easily a more entertaining psychopathic villain than Hopper was, the scene where they must avoid colliding with the tanker is white-knuckle, the visual effects of the final harbour collision look incredible and the reason they don't age is due to De Bont's decision to go largely practical, Mancina's score adds a lot to the tension and emotional moments. Bullock is the weakest link for me with many of her one-liners being eye-gougingly annoying and clashing with the rest of the film's tone (it's like she's in a different movie) but apart from that, it's a solid 7.5 popcorn movie that's great at putting you in the summer mood.

    Meet Dave, a mild-mannered accountant with a passion for spreadsheets and exactly zero tolerance for excitement. But his quiet life takes a turn for the absurd when he’s trapped in his office with a diabolical twist: a hacker has rigged his computer to explode if he types slower than 50 words per minute.
    Armed with caffeine, questionable typing skills, and the world's most outdated keyboard, Dave must battle carpal tunnel, autocorrect sabotage, and his co-worker Brenda, who keeps asking him to fix the printer. Along the way, he uncovers the villain's motive: revenge for a typo in last year’s budget report.
    Will Dave’s fingers fly fast enough to save his office (and his health insurance)? Or will his typos be the end of him? It's a race against time, technology, and his own terrible typing! 🤣🤣🤣

    I would very much like it if you could discuss the movie Toys. Robin Williams was involved in 3 big movies that premiered in 1992 Aladdin, Ferngully, and Toys. Much has been made about Williams agreeing to voice the Genie in Aladdin under the strict understanding that Disney not go overboard with marketing his involvement in the film, and the studio's subsequent reneging of that agreement. It's been reported that Disney took active steps to sabotage the production of the rival animated film Ferngully (which Williams voice acted in at scale price because of his belief in the movie's environmentalist message). However, I believe the real reason for Williams' request was so as to not distract from audiences from his passion project Toys in which he played the starring role. I'd love to hear if you uncover any truth behind this.

    All they needed was Keanu Reeves back for Speed 2, and it would have been great

    This happens all the time in the movie industry. They actually know how to do it and fail. "Speed I" was too good. Maybe it would have been better to do something very similar than "Speed I".

    They could have just done a bus again. Called it a copycat bomber. Put a cooler looking jump at the end and people probably would have been fine with it. Plus no filming on water.

    Note to 90s self: make people fight on moving objects to make money - bus, train, plane, but not boat.
    We dodged a bullet with Will Smith not getting the Matrix role. He would have just slapped Agent Smith a few times and the movie would be over.

    Hot take: It's actually doesn't deserve its rep as one of the worst films of all time. It's certainly not very good, and there are lots of questionable artistic choices, but there are worse films out there.

    I loved speed two cruise control, it was funny and exciting and heighten my anxiety about action and adventure and all. And William Defoe was an excellent villain. My only problem was the absence of Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock‘s character and he had really changed. Unless this was us taking a look at what Annie looks like when she is not in a heightened frightening situation such as getting stuck on a moving vehicle with a bomb attached to it. I would’ve loved to have seen a speed three on a giant airplane. And this time yes with Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves back on the screen together. No offense Jason but you just didn’t do it for me.
