I think my first R-rated movie was Lethal Weapon 2. I was seven 😂. I was a little older when Speed came out and got to watch it as soon as it came out on VHS. It was amazing. Jan de Bont honestly delivered the goods for Speed 2 if you can bring yourself to look at the movie objectively, the epic setting isolated on the high seas with thousands of potential victims certainly helps to raise the stakes, they got a method actor instead of a movie star as the lead which is always interesting to watch for a commercial movie, Dafoe is easily a more entertaining psychopathic villain than Hopper was, the scene where they must avoid colliding with the tanker is white-knuckle, the visual effects of the final harbour collision look incredible and the reason they don't age is due to De Bont's decision to go largely practical, Mancina's score adds a lot to the tension and emotional moments. Bullock is the weakest link for me with many of her one-liners being eye-gougingly annoying and clashing with the rest of the film's tone but apart from that, it's a solid 7.5 popcorn movie that's great at putting you in the summer mood.

...l can not wait for technology that is so so good.... that they computer generate a scene
(storyboarded but not made because it was too expensive).
It involves a helicopter lowering a cop on a rope, to the roof of the bus, but then has to immediately pull up rapidly, because of a nearing overhead crossbridge.
The cop on the narrowly avoids death from the cross bridge, but spectacularly crashes thru a 'Windscreens O'Brien' Truck!!!!!!!
      Wow!!!
What a scene that would be!!!!!
