After Cloud and Sephiroth disappeared together, Sora said something along the lines of “They probably went back to their own world”. Was that just a mistake made by the writers, or do Cloud and Sephiroth both come from somewhere else in the KH universe?
That bit about Sora needing to have a discussion with Riku about how he *_literally_* tried to murder him in Hollow Bastion before the possession even happened was both some of the most hilarious commentary on KH I've ever heard and very disconcerting because no one seems to talk about that little tidbit.

One thing I will say I absolutely love about the first two Ansem fights is that it is made very clear that he is a researcher, not a fighter. He essentially relies on the guardian for all of his attacks, and watches in interest from a distance as you are pummeled to death.
I do kind of wish he had more physical or magic attacks that didn’t rely on the guardian but it does make sense since he does control the heartless and the guardian is essentially one of the most powerful heartless since it’s Terra’s heartless. I also see Xemnas as the close combat type since he does have the lasers but his combat style far more relies on his lightsabers than Ansem does with the guardian. It’s kind of cool to think how they contrast each other in that regard
It is definitely unfortunate, but i see why they kept it with Terranort and not Ansem. It probably would raise too many questions if Ansem had his own version. And it was the most fitting for Terranort to have it so that Terra could reclaim his body. It might have been cool if you could have fought Ansem once with it to give him a sort of.. "last send off" with the Guardian before it went to hang out with Terranort again
The funny thing about Chernabg is that back when I was a kid I hadn't saw Fantasia and so I didn't knew he was a disney character, I just thought he was a super strong badass Heartless, and I mean he looks like one, it's years later I've saw the Fantasia movies, saw his part of the movies and realise "HEY That's the giant heartless from KH", only to see the release date of the movie ^^
Based on colors I always thought the Heartless were some other branch of Chernabog and the demons. Like as a heartless you START as the tiny black ones, then evolve depending on the actions you take.

That's right! There's a few fights like that in the game. The final Sabor fight, the first part of the Clayton fight, Opposite Armor, the Cave of Wonders, Oogie's Manor, and Hook. No idea why it's just those ones but I always thought it was cool lol

Actually, I think in Hook's case.... as long as you DON'T leave the world, he won't be at full health when you come back. So you can Leave, use save point to heal, and come back refreshed to hit him some more before doing it again and again until he falls.
Honestly, I wish it made a little bit more sense. Like, Oogiemanor and the cave are fine, they can do literally nothing to prevent you from just walking away. But like, why would clayton be like:"Aight, you can go. No bullet to the face today."

Fun Fact: There is a way to finish Ursula 2.0 without even fighting her. Have Sora swim around in a circle dodging attacks cause she'll aim at him while Donald and Goofy literally go berserk fighting her. It ends the battle pretty quickly and you still have 100% hp. Fun Fact: When fighting Dragon Maleficent, there is a part of the thorns you can actually stand on. You can pretty much finish her battle with ease up there. Just stand and deflect. Shoot magic when possible, but essentially you are deflecting while Donald and Goofy attack up close and personal. A similar tactic to fighting Big Ursula actually, just standing still instead of swimming around...
"Also, he has lightsabers." In all honesty, that's all he ever needed to become a fan favorite among people who both watched Star Wars and played KH. Xemnas brought lightsabers to kingdom Hearts 8 years before Fragmented Keys was planned and canceled.

Thinking back the Phantom was probably the only boss fight that legitimately scared me. I used to think the fight was timed and that if I ran out of time it was an instant kill. It took me using stop close to the clock by accident to figure out what I was suppose to do.
I just finished playing the KH1 Critical Mix mod, so seeing all these bosses ranked gave a lot of good insight on the memories I had of this game when I was younger. You really do deserve more subscribers, it's a really well made video!
Man KH1 truly is an amazing game. I'm so glad I got to play it when younger so now it just gives me huge nostalgia. Riku's fight is definitely #1 considering how you went from fighting in a small island, dreaming of leaving and exploring worlds together. To then fighting at top center of a castle after exploring worlds all by yourself. As a teen that blew my mind.

Great video as always! My personal favorite boss fight in KH1 and of all time is World of Chaos. I've always had a soft spot for giant bosses, and I feel as though this one is one of the best. The atmosphere and design of the boss are great, you are separated from your party members and have to slowly reunite with them throughout the fight, and all of the different phases have you destroying different parts of it so that you are slowly destroying it little by little. While I've certainly come to appreciate normal-sized bosses more and more in recent times, making both Final Xemnas from KH2 and Master Xehanort from KH3 come close to becoming my favorite boss, I think that World of Chaos will always be my favorite for these reasons. Plus, the World of Chaos literally blows up in a fiery explosion at the end, which is never seen in a Kingdom Hearts game again.
That Clayton bit was priceless. Came to this video because I saw the new one for KH3. Very glad I did you’ve improved your craft a ton and still I find gold in these earlier videos. Keep it up pat, you’re doin a stellar job!

I have got to say that this is my first video of yours and I wanted to compliment your writing, since it made me laugh and chuckle many times, as well as explaining why the boss is ranked where he is really well. I remember how I accidentally stumbled upon Kurt and Phantom when I was a kid, and as I must have missed the part where they told me to go get the Gummi piece in traverse town, I assumed you *had* to beat them as opposed to them being optional. I was in the depths of despair trying my hardest to beat them. These days, Kurt is probably my favorite heartless boss in terms of fight mechanics, and I actively seek out superbosses for the satisfaction of figuring them out and kicking their teeth in.

Fun fact, for the Lock Stock & Barrel fight, I found a corner of the room behind something (I can't remember what rn) that makes you immune to their attacks. Best part is you can spam attacks from there while being invincible.

@@syrelian I found shotlocks pretty useless with Terra's fight, honestly. Thunder surge & cure for the command deck plus lots of timed dodging, blocking, and begging the RNG gods not to hit me with both the command steal & orb attacks simultaneously. Could not seem to get past that combo alive at all.
My trigger words from the Ansem/Riku fight are still embedded into my subconscious thanks to non-skipable cutscenes in kh1. "Fergit it. Ders no whey ur takin Kairi's hart!!"
One thing worth mentioning about Dragon Maleficent: the original plan was for her to be the main antagonist/final boss of the game, hence why the boss fight feels *significantly* harder than the other Disney villains (including her base form)
For context, this is not my first time playing KH1, though it's been at least a decade. I've been a KH2 stan from the moment they handed me a second Keyblade, so it's the only one ive played more than once before now. This is however, my first time: -Playing on Proud mode -Attempting to 100% the game -Beating Riku in the race(suck it edgelord) But I want to share my two favorite boss fight moments in this game. 1) Ansem 2's desperation move. I wouldn't even consider it gameplay, it's practically a controlled cutscene. Given that he's invincible during it and you have no option but to run a circle around the arena, it makes _your_ situation feel desperate, and him asking "what do you hope to accomplish?" while you are literally helpless, really adds to the gravity of not only the fight, but the situation at large. 2) And this might be my favorite just because of how mentally affecting it is, is Hades' rotisserie attack. I've never fought KH1 Hades until literally 2 days ago, and him busting out this move, literally melting your friends and smugly asking the only person left standing "hey, we having fun yet?" in such a subdued manner that says "I've done this before to similar results" just has me like *_chefs kiss_* in terms of character work.
Me and my friend never figured out the "trick" on how to damage Sephiroth. Sometimes he would just randomly start taking damage. I know we never beat him as children but I'm not sure if we ever figured out that he just had more health than the game could display or if I just added 1 and 1 together when I was older.
Lol yeah i never understood why they used those invisible health bars for the bosses with a lot of HP. Like, why not just add another color bar? You'd think it'd be something they'd update in the ReMixes, too.

Thinking back the Phantom was probably the only boss fight that legitimately scared me. I used to think the fight was timed and that if I ran out of time it was an instant kill. It took me using stop close to the clock by accident to figure out what I was suppose to do.

I just finished playing the KH1 Critical Mix mod, so seeing all these bosses ranked gave a lot of good insight on the memories I had of this game when I was younger. You really do deserve more subscribers, it's a really well made video!

Riku's fight is definitely #1 considering how you went from fighting in a small island, dreaming of leaving and exploring worlds together. To then fighting at top center of a castle after exploring worlds all by yourself. As a teen that blew my mind.

Great video as always! My personal favorite boss fight in KH1 and of all time is World of Chaos. I've always had a soft spot for giant bosses, and I feel as though this one is one of the best. The atmosphere and design of the boss are great, you are separated from your party members and have to slowly reunite with them throughout the fight, and all of the different phases have you destroying different parts of it so that you are slowly destroying it little by little. While I've certainly come to appreciate normal-sized bosses more and more in recent times, making both Final Xemnas from KH2 and Master Xehanort from KH3 come close to becoming my favorite boss, I think that World of Chaos will always be my favorite for these reasons. Plus, the World of Chaos literally blows up in a fiery explosion at the end, which is never seen in a Kingdom Hearts game again.
Oh yeah I do love the World of Chaos "death" scene. It's like entirely organic-looking matter and then it just fucking explodes.

I remember how I accidentally stumbled upon Kurt and Phantom when I was a kid, and as I must have missed the part where they told me to go get the Gummi piece in traverse town, I assumed you *had* to beat them as opposed to them being optional. I was in the depths of despair trying my hardest to beat them.
These days, Kurt is probably my favorite heartless boss in terms of fight mechanics, and I actively seek out superbosses for the satisfaction of figuring them out and kicking their teeth in.

Using boss might be derived from the way that In Japan they use "boss" to describe the leader of a Yakuza. and it kind of goes hand in hand with video games having a format of "fighting through henchmen to reach the final 'boss'".

My first thought seeing Ansem and that guardian heartless when I was a little kid was "Oh, he's like Unknown from Tekken Tag Tournament", but now, years later, I'm thinking "It's an enemy stand user!"
The ONLY reason I was somewhat okay with the no scene skipping during the final Riku fight was because it would make me laugh every single time I saw Riku smack Donald out of the air😂it was definitely annoying having to sit through it about 50 times, but boy did I find that funny

28:29 I'm not sure if you know this, but theres a series of books called 'Kingdom Keepers' where the whole idea is that everything in the disney parks are real and alive and the villains want it. It's cabal of villains feels very KH-esque and Chernabog is considered the biggest baddest.

@@syrelian I found shotlocks pretty useless with Terra's fight, honestly. Thunder surge & cure for the command deck plus lots of timed dodging, blocking, and begging the RNG gods not to hit me with both the command steal & orb attacks simultaneously. Could not seem to get past that combo alive at all.

One thing worth mentioning about Dragon Maleficent: the original plan was for her to be the main antagonist/final boss of the game, hence why the boss fight feels *significantly* harder than the other Disney villains (including her base form)
Dude the Clayton trigger words from Tarzan was the most relatable thing ever. Literally took me months to beat that fight as a kid
Man that Ansem/riku fight was a tough one to defeat. I remember playing it a few years ago and not having any troubles. Strange how things change.
some of these bosses i have never even seen, or heard of. this was fun to watch.
For context, this is not my first time playing KH1, though it's been at least a decade. I've been a KH2 stan from the moment they handed me a second Keyblade, so it's the only one ive played more than once before now. This is however, my first time:
-Playing on Proud mode
-Attempting to 100% the game
-Beating Riku in the race(suck it edgelord)
But I want to share my two favorite boss fight moments in this game.
1) Ansem 2's desperation move. I wouldn't even consider it gameplay, it's practically a controlled cutscene. Given that he's invincible during it and you have no option but to run a circle around the arena, it makes _your_ situation feel desperate, and him asking "what do you hope to accomplish?" while you are literally helpless, really adds to the gravity of not only the fight, but the situation at large.
2) And this might be my favorite just because of how mentally affecting it is, is Hades' rotisserie attack. I've never fought KH1 Hades until literally 2 days ago, and him busting out this move, literally melting your friends and smugly asking the only person left standing "hey, we having fun yet?" in such a subdued manner that says "I've done this before to similar results" just has me like *_chefs kiss_* in terms of character work.
The commentary is sooo good! I've had a lot of good laughs so far. Great video. I'll be subbing for more.
Me and my friend never figured out the "trick" on how to damage Sephiroth. Sometimes he would just randomly start taking damage. I know we never beat him as children but I'm not sure if we ever figured out that he just had more health than the game could display or if I just added 1 and 1 together when I was older.
Lol yeah i never understood why they used those invisible health bars for the bosses with a lot of HP. Like, why not just add another color bar? You'd think it'd be something they'd update in the ReMixes, too.
