  • Another US vs UK trials! This time Americans try fizzy drinks (or soda or pop… but not coke… we don’t condone that one). We took to the Tescos and Sainsbury’s near us to round up some of the most beloved fizzy drinks across England.
    In this vlog we give them a ranking out of ten and work our way down the list. We tried Vimto, Ribena, Tango, Irn Bru, Soda Folks, Lucozade, Cawston Press, Ben Shaw, Oasis, Lilt, Rubicon, and Fentimans! So many good once and some that we just weren’t here for.
    Join us and discover our new favorites... and the ones he could do without!! Were there any that we missed? Lots more fun content in store in the coming weeks, so stick around!
    Tell us, what kind of British food/products should we try next? What would you like us to share? What did you think of the video? Leave a comment, like, and subscribe for more!!

    I'm 36 years old and D&B (Dandilion and Berdock) and cream soda were what I drank in the summer when the pop van came round. A guy would deliver glass bottles similar to the US 40oz beer bottles. Was the best time.

    There is a temperance bar in Lancashire in a place called Rawtenstall that sells all old fashioned non alcoholic drinks such as dandelion and burdock, licorice root and hundreds of others. Well worth a visit. You could also go to Bury in Lancashire which has the most amazing black pudding. If you are feeling brave you could try tripe there too which is a Lancashire delicacy that my Nan’s family grew up on.

      Bury black pudding is the best - the original and genuine! The Scots claim black pudding as their own, but the Scottish version is so high in spices like nutmeg and cinnamon that it's almost inedible. (Bury black pudding isn't so highly spiced, so you can really taste the pig's blood!!😋!!)

      @@AroundtheWorldandBeck arrive in Bury, go on the famous Bury market and get your black puddings (IIRC 3 different producers of the things) then get the heritage steam railway to Rawtenstall and then call in Fitzpatrick's Temperance bar. A very northern day out... Make a weekend of it and visit Manchester too 👍🏻

    Shandy is beer and lemonade. It is very very low alcohol so low in fact that children are allowed to buy cans of shandy. Shandy in pubs however is only for adults as it is about half and half beer/lager and half British style lemonade (similar to sprite for American viewers).

    Fanta was made by the Nazis!
    Fanta Twist is the best.
    Lucozade original is my absolute favourite, it goes great with Vodka and Gin! Lucozade comes in fruit flavours, but the Original is best. Ribena Strawberry is gorgeous. All concentrates need water in them. You can get real shandy in a pub, just ask for lemonade in your beer. I have never seen Cream Soda that colour, it is either white or green.

    The Shandy that comes in cans is usually 0.5% ABV. So kids can buy it. In the pub its anywhere from half and half or less lemonade. It depends on things. You would understand it if you went to the pub or B&B bar as a kid with family.

    If you're going to drink Rubicon soft drinks, you'd be better off trying their original 'tropical fruits' range which come in a number of flavours: Pomegranate, Mango, Guava, Passion Fruit and the absolutely delicious Lychee. I used to love these years ago, when I first discovered them, but unfortunately since then I've been diagnosed as diabetic, and Rubicon don't do a sugar free version of any of these, so now I buy them for my wife when I see them, and content myself with the smell, (or perhaps the occasional sip, when "the diabetes police" aren't watching!)

    There was once a phase when people used to drink Lucozade when ill because it has some hydration elements to it, although there is no evidence to show that the drink can be used for medical reasons. It is sort of placed around that area where people think it is a energy drink or like Red Bull as it contains stuff like sodium in it, but as mentioned it is a bit of a urban legend that it actually makes you feel better then in need of your sick bed.

    • @AroundtheWorldandBeck
      @AroundtheWorldandBeck  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That actually makes a lot of sense. We were confused on the whole thing, but sounds like so is everyone 😂😂 Thanks!

    • @DaveBartlett
      @DaveBartlett 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lucozade IS an energy drink in the proper sense of the term: it has a very high sugar content, much of it in the form of glucose (which means the sugar is more readily usable by your body.) Most of the drinks that parade as 'energy drinks' these days are a con. Any energy they provide is from their sugar content; they give your body 'the illusion' of energy by being packed with caffeine. If that's what you crave, you're better off drinking a couple of shots of strong coffee.

    Normal UK cream Soda is clear, Oasis is basically our Snapple, minus the tea based versions original Lucozade was marketed for the young and elderly when you're feeling down came in a distinctive clear glass bottle wrapped in yellow cellophane and was sticky as heĺl, Dandelion & Burdock is, now a fizzy pop but originally it was a similar drink to the original (historic) versions of American Root Beet and Sarsparilla which were once derided as Hedge or Field medicine, made from various roots and or barks mixed up boiled etc would be used generally for intestinal ailments oh BTW as a throwaway did you know there is a brand of Cream Soda from South Africa that is Green ?

      The old advertising slogan for Barrs Irn Bru used to say that it was "Brewed in Scotland from girders", but the only iron in there is a very low concentrate of ammonium ferric citrate (0.002%), the iron content of which is 18.5% at maximum, so with only 0.00037% iron, a single girder would go a hell of a long way, (One kilogram would be enough for over a quarter of a million litres of the stuff!)
      The other main flavourings are caffeine and quinine. If you mix elderflower cordial with indian tonic water, you get something that tastes incredibly like Irn Bru. Of course that would be colourless and clear, but mixing in a shot of orange food colouring will be enough to fool most people! (Secret recipe, my arse!)
