    Keegan said in the post-comp interview that he is just broken, has had to go to physio every single day to keep him going and he wants to be there for his kids. What makes this competition even more emotional is that Keegan is a descendant of the first Japanese immigrant in Canada so to have his last competition skate in Japan is very meaningful ♥

    A great Ice Dance pair to root for is the Estonian/French team, the guy had dropped the girl and she had to go through a really difficult brain surgery to stay alive. This years worlds was their first competition of the season and they didn't do fantastic, but she actually recovered so well despite her having to learn to walk again a few months prior. She was brave, wasn't scared of the ice and they really gave it their all. Nothing stopping them now!

    Out of the six 2019/20 junior gp finalists, only Haein Lee is competing internationally, and three have retired from singles skating or are recovering from injuries (not to mention potentially being banned for doping). She’s a survivor who keeps improving, showing that focusing on technique and artistry over ultra c is more sustainable. Hopefully the judges are becoming more accustomed to good technique and presentation - the Malinin scores seem to indicate that this is the direction in which skating is moving. I really enjoyed watching this competition, it seemed more artistic and more considered - shades of Kim Yu Na throughout.
    Also, no big dramas - nice to focus on the sport. I really got the impression that everyone was supporting everyone to do well.

And also showing that sometimes consistency is more important than the biggest baddest jumps. Jason is osmeone I constantly point towards when teching my skaters because he's just sooo consistant while also showing such amazing quality and a different kind of skill that he places that high in the world champinoships "without a quad" and I just think that's so important these days.

Yes his worlds free skate; was his final competitive skate. He struggled with being distracted because he was emotional over it being his last; also because he just became a father for the second time. He will still do some shows; in-between training to be a firefighter in Alaska. He will be missed 😭 FYI 🇨🇦 did make the podium in Ice Dance. Piper Gillas and Paul Poirer captured Bronze 🥉. After missing nationals and 3 months of training because Piper had an emergency appendectomy 👏

    Jin Boyang, I feel like, will give us a solid comeback next season. He is with Brian, recovered and has his jumps.
    Keegan retiring literally had me unravel on Twitter, since no more Keegan Kiss&Cry baby pic updates and general high energy life loving skater. ALSO I would like to point out Keegan outlasted Hanyu - sit with that for a moment.
    Jason Brown literally in my eyes is showing the world what skating is and it should not be a jump festival. Literally he is holding up skating what it used to be.
    Malinin being 3rd was not shocking to me. Honestly I wouldn't even let him onto the podium with his PCS scores, but this season has shown that his jumps save him. HOWEVER I am super intrigued to see what he brings next season as he talked about working on artistry.
    Junhwan should have places first - his short should have been over 100p and literally he did clean twice. But well judges. However it was beautiful to see him deliver two solid performances and has now confidence so.
    Shoma literally fought for his medal and I wouldn't want to know the pressure that was on him.

      rika barely competed at last year’s japan open, she was actively competing when russia was allowed in isu competitions and was severely underscored. kaori was barely on the podium before russia got banned as well, and rika right now is still recovering from the ankle injury. i hope she gets back in the sport like how she used to pre-beijing before kaori retires or both of them can’t land their jumps any longer, think it’d make for a great rivarly

      I guess Paola has her own favorites that she wanted to talk about in depth? Also it's normal to show respect and interest to your own countries athletes no matter how good or bad they do in a competition. Of course a side mention about them wouldn't have hurt anyone but she left a whole discipline out so clearly she is here to talk only about the skaters she is invested in

    • @sirena3470
      @sirena3470 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@kaamoskukkia of course she is entitled to talk more about her favorite skaters, but I think the skaters I mentioned deserved at least an honorable mention. Also in her European Championship recap video, she barely mentioned anastasiia gubanova (the gold medalist) and kimmy repond (the bronze medalist) and focused almost completely on Loena Hendrickx since she is a “fan favorite”. Paola’s channel is one of the biggest figure skating channels on TH-cam, and since she covers everything related to figure skating, I wish I could hear her comments on the less famous but successful skaters as well, that would help them get the recognition and appreciation they deserve

    • @kaamoskukkia
      @kaamoskukkia ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@sirena3470 As I said she literally left a whole discipline out in this video - which goes on to show that she doesn't really do these videos to please everyone. Paola is not obliged to talk about every athlete, there is surely someone else willing to talk about these skaters you just mentioned so maybe check them out instead?
      I get your point about giving them recognition and I agree, these skaters deserve love, but Paola is not the only person who does fs content.
