    This explains Sasha’s break down so well. She has been working strategically to get first place at the olympics and being defeated must be a hit in the face. Especially since it was not Kami but Anya who came in first. I think the girls do understand the inflation of their scores and biases of the judging system. So having Anya outperform her with a “mediocre” performance in her eyes must devastating. She feels betrayed by her trainers and jurors.

      And that eteri and her team were clearly telling her that she would definitely win if she landed all 5 quads, only for that to not be true, would have just added to the betrayal she felt. The thing that is just SHOCKING to me about Evgenia's injury is that she was "just" jumping triples. That's the severity of injury she has by doing the "simple" jumps (simple by todays figure skating standarts, please dont misunderstand). If thats what she ended up with by doing triples, what the hell is going to happen to current Eteri girls? Im honestly terrified.
    I cant believe Yana is making sense for once.... Maybe it will slowly pick up, maybe more people will question why there are so many broken teenagers....
    Also, wouldnt it be hilarious if Evgenia chose to be a coach and then joined Yulia at plushenko camp?

    • @NormaLilia24
      @NormaLilia24 2 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      I think the reason of Evgenia’s back injury was bc when she jumped the triples she put more pressure on her upper body to rotate the jumps vs using her legs to complete the jump, her injury was from too much wear and tear using the wrong technique. The best technique would be to use the legs to help rotate the jumps. The newer generation are using the leg technique a bit better so hopefully we won’t see back injuries from Sasha, kamila, etc. Doesn’t mean they don’t stand the chance of getting injured, in this sport there is always going to be injuries but the long term injuries are the ones that change the athletes longevity in the sport.

    • @shmyshmys
      @shmyshmys 2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      It’s not that she just jumps triples or just jumping quads. Evgenia’s technique was always terrible and relied heavily on pre rotation, muscling her jumps. If someone jumps doubles with bad technique they will get injured too.

    Yana really making some valid points here, im honestly quite suprised. It's concerning that journalist and interviewers seem to be more focused on drama between coaches rather than the health and longevity of these young skaters. Im really hoping that Trusova will be able to pull through 2 olympic cycles she started the quad revolution in ladies skating and elevated the entire ladies field, making history. It was also really unecessary for Tatiana to talk abt Plushenko Jr., there was literally no point in bringing in a literal child into this conversation.

      Absolutely. Like eteri and her team ( DANNY G ) are making it out as if she’s the lazy one who doesn’t train hard enough and now that’s what people are starting to say about her but she was literally so injured when she went to plushenko that she could only train a few months. And this was mostly a back injury. At 17!!! And now even evgenia said her back is so injured she can barely turn to the left. BTW SHES 22. But no aliona is the lazy one for not working herself till her spine snapped and she became paralysed. This is honestly shocking. And what’s even crazier is that aliona only performed the 3A consistently for one season. Elizaveta has been doing 3A since like 2014-2015, since last year has been doing 3 each competition and is now 24. Tell me why she doesn’t have severe back problems but aliona at the age of 17 did and evgenia can’t even bend her back when all she did were triple tripples and double axels.

    I think what happened to Zhenya is horrifying and people still here defending Eteri like she pays them to be clowns here are incredible. I keep seeing people bring Hanyu into this discussion by saying his textbook technique doesn't save him from injuries lmao Hanyu is a 27 years old man who has been a senior for 10+ years, every athlete gets injured, so does Hanyu. But do you know what the difference is? Hanyu gets injured, he recovers and comes back strong and continues to compete while we consider them lucky if an Eteri girl can compete until they are 20. Every year, she breaks another girl. It's crazy how shameless people defend her on TH-cam, especially after what Elizabet Tursynbaeva's mother said on social media and Zhenya's interviews. And of course, there are Eteri's body-shaming comments.
    It's very concerning how openly Zhenya talked about what happened to her and there are other girls like her who criticized or openly talked about how terrible they were physically after working with Eteri but nothing happens. No consequences for her. And those girls are children and teens. They come to her thinking "oh what happened to other girls won't happen to me, I will be different, I feel fine, I will work hard and have a long career" but that's childish innocence and ignorance. At 20 they will barely be able to bend their back. It's incredibly saddening and horrifying. If you think about it, this sport is horrible, people get away with everything, from abuse to sexual assault. There are no consequences for anyone. No one cares what Eteri or Hamada (and Nobunari exposed him?!) or Lambiel do, no one cares about Skating Survivors. I'm so tired.

      She came to eteri the latest of all the girls, at 14 I think and by then she had all her jumps that she did under eteri except for the 3A which Sergei rozanov got her
      She had one good senior season with eteri because of her 3A and then after that she went to plushenko and he himself said that aliona was so injured that she had stop training for a while, plus aliona got COVID. And by the time that all happened she was 17, right in time for the expiration date. With plushenko her technique got even better. Her technique was always the best of the eteri girls cause she actually had toe pick assistance but she did have a flat edge on her lutz and they were starting to fix it. Same with Sasha when she went there, everything improved so much, Toe pick assistance on her flip and lutz, and she actually came out looking healthy and not like a starved 10 year old. Then she went back to eteri and her skating skills deteriorated and she’s back to full blade assist on jumps and back to doing jump drills. It’s funny how her students with the worst technique ( evgenia and Anna ) came to her as children and basically learnt almost everything from her, and her student with the best technique and best skating skills ( aliona ) came to her at 14 basically already established with all her triples. People forget that while Eteri can be rightly criticized and questioned for her methods, no coach before her had so many athletes of the same level vying for just 3 Olympic spots. No matter how she pushes them herself, there is no telling how badly each athlete wants it for themselves and are therefore pushing themselves even harder. And no other coach has as this many students performing such difficult jumps. Of course injuries will happen, as unfortunate as that is. Interestingly, Eteri was also criticized by a lot of the same people for holding Sasha back and not allowing her to do as many quads.. while to me that seems like a genuine concern for someone's health.

    Am I the only one that finds the mini cult around Eteri ridiculous? Some people will defend ANYTHING that woman does. It almost reminds me of K-Pop company stans lol. When Daria was hurt, so many people leaned on "Eteri didn't know." They have a physician and your hip is one of the most critical places in figure skating, there is no way she didn't know. And even if Daria herself said nothing, how does a 15 year old kid know how to listen to their body and know how much pain is too much if no one has ever told them much beyond "power through it." These girls have such a short time in the spotlight, and when you are scared out of your mind that someone else might become a favorite over you (which also translates into actually having a real competitive career or not), why should anyone be surprised that they are showing up to competitions not in competitive shape?

Not to mention evgenia interview where she said she can belly turn to the left anymore because her back injuries are so severe and she’s 22. Also elizabet turnsenbayeva who’s mother said she could barely bend her back at 19 years old after training with eteri and now has officially ended her career at 22 due to her continuous back injury. I think that Eteri's method is to get her skaters to burn bright, without cause for concern if they quickly burn out. Because this doesn't actually harm her in any way, as a coach, just the skaters (who are, sadly, replaceable.) Although the general public loves to root for skaters who can succeed and last for multiple Olympic seasons (like Kwan, Kim, Asada, Kostner, Tuktamysheva, etc.) it is not necessary for a coach to maintain the same exceptional skaters for multiple seasons in order to get their own record of gold medals--It doesn't matter *who* gets the gold per se, just *how many* golds they can receive, which is enough to make someone a reputable coach (maybe this perception needs to change, which is what I believe Plushenko's wife was getting at.)
    Meanwhile, national skating associations who elect skaters for the Olympics will be happy to choose *any* athlete so long as they can likely place gold and are eligible, regardless of who that skater personally is or how long they have lasted the sport. Eteri is able to provide that with the "conveyor" belt of talented ladies, even if her skaters only last for one Olympic season. With respect to her and someone like Mishin, it may come down to a difference in strategy - the the short-game vs. the long-game. Plushenko is a beginner coach so we'll see what strategy he ultimately ends up employing in his skaters, and his skating record, but it seems like he disagrees, at least in principle, with Eteri's method.
    I personally disagree with Eteri's method due to the extreme nature of the training that results in lasting physical deformities and injuries on young ladies long term. It's similar to an employer over-working its staff to outcompete its competitor (read: exploitative labor practices.) In addition, due to their age, it's hard to say that these young athletes, when they begin with a coach like Eteri, actually consent to or know what will be expected of them and their bodies under Eteri - so how can we honestly say they have the *ability* to consent to such a training regimen and the risks it poses to them in the first place?

    Great video as always. But I cannot agree with you on some things. Trusova left Tutberidze in 2020 not because of the injures or that she was afraid of being injured. She actually wanted to go to Rafael but the pandemic riuned her plans. She wanted more attention and of course didn't like being surpassed in the group by Kostronaya. Especially since Kostornaya doesn't do any quads. Trusova is still planning on going training abroad, she wants a long career. A for Medvedeva's back, yes she has had some problems at the Olympics already but still she was capable to compete in 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 seasons. The final point came during summer of 2020 when she was either in Japan or in CSKA training with Tarasova (Buyanova didn't want to take her and all the responsibility), so Evgenia injured herself even more by training basically with no coach at all. When she returned to Tutberidze the 1st thing Eteri did was to sent Evgenia to medical check-up - that's what Russian coaches usually do with the athletes who come from other training camps (or they HAVE to do it, I'm not sure). The diagnosis was that Evgenia couldn't skate at full force and was to do exercise, healing and etc. That's why we didn't manage to see Evgenia at any of the Russia Cups in the fall of 2020.
    You said 1 great thing in the video that both Kostornaya and Trusova were training BY THEMSELVES in the Angels of Plushenko. Trusova was basically ALONE on the ice most of the time, her only help was by Dmitri Mikhailov. Kostornaya actually complained to the RusFed about not being trained properly, Trusova never complained. Around winter 2021 Plushenko was cut off from financial support from the RusFed, I don't know if the performance of Sasha and Alyona at Rostelecom Cup was the reason or something else. Basically both Kostornaya and Trusova since then had no REASONS to stay in the Angels with no support and failed results.Kostornaya realised it first and ran to Tutberidze. Her whole career was under question. Both girls returned from Plushenko with money debts. Rudkovskaya mentioned that Sasha still has to skate in one of their shows - I don't know if that would happen. I've read that she paid all her debts, as for Kostornaya - I don't know.
    The point of all your videos is to show that Eteri is a monster - or at least it feels like this. But I would like to ask you to not jump to such fast conclusions, Russian figure skating is a messed world full of intrigues and lies. There's a lot of people who do not want the success of Russian girls or the Eteri girls. Some Russian coaches and officials are actually rooting for Japanese skaters or other foreign ones. Tarasova always did. The latest thing that I know is that Kamila was given such huge points for her skating because the aim is to discourage other Tutberidze girls, to make them nervous. Yana Rudkovskaya's speech is directed mostly to bring down Trusova, to present her as a capricious little diva. Both Yana and Plushenko support the Mishin camp - they want to see Tuktamysheva win over Trusova at the Nationals that's why we hear a lot of comments of how good Liza is (although her components are questionable, to me her skating has become real slow) and how unstable, non-artistic and bad Trusova is. So make up your own mind.

      But Alina retired because of personal reasons more than physical reasons. I mean...emm she's not having any major injuries, she just lost incentive to keep on competiting.
      That's really understandable. If we are Alina, having won everything already, why would we want to train 6+hours a day, have to diet to lose weight to jump and have to work very hard to learn quad/3A to compete with Sasha/Anna/Alena/etc while we can just go to shows and earn a lot of money, eat whatever we want, get back to study and have new prospects in life?
      Though I do agree that Eteri's technique (Or Sergey? Whoever trains the jumps) did harm the girls' bodies. Zhenya had always muscled/twisted her upper body into her jumps, people have been talking about this even when she's winning everytime.
      Now people are talking about Kamila's ankles because she has a kind of not healthy way of landing. I wonder why would fans like us see it while her coach didn't (or just know it but ignored it?)

      @@user-qq7zf2fi1u Alina was also 18.
      I’m pretty sure the ankle thing for Valieva, which I also see, is partially a visual illusion of her legs being long and her ankles being especially thin. Kamila’s axis in air is really angled (she uses arms in air to straighten herself if you notice - she rippons everything) and her ankles hit the ice at more of an angle. At first I was watching her feeling every jump was precarious but she’s actually really consistent and even has a 3A, which you obviously can’t do with this turn and throw yourself from your back technique as you go forward. She still has that with her quads and her triple axle is kind of low but she does go far and lands.. Among Eteri girls she’s kind of unusual overall. I don’t really know how long she will last, but I do hope she will not have injuries and have some longevity.
      So while it is true that there are always more junior girls coming up to work wirh Eteri, i really do not think someone in her position can be as incompetent and uncaring as this channel and some commenters think. They have been getting this criticism about skater longevity for over a decade now. Tuktik is well liked and now supported in and out of Russia. Julia has been vocal about the ED stuff, and it has been blamed on Eteri and any comment about weight or perceived thinness or somebody’s eating habits all goes to her when I don’t know that there’s any evidence for it to be on the coach -. In general athletes, especially gymnasts and figure skaters we need to do jumps and stuff need to be very cognizant of their weight around competitions, like even judging how much water intake they have. It doesn’t seem like she or her daughter have been underweight. I don’t know from the outside you can’t make such judgments but I don’t really see any reason to blame it all on Eteri but it is always what I see.
      It would be great if Eteri supported at least one of the current gen skaters long term like Liza. Aliona for example could have the longevity like Tuktik (but better PCS and skating skills and musicality!) if supported through this difficult time. This could give Eteri the proof she can support a skater through adulthood. What I don’t know is whether Skating as a sport has room for that anymore. Tuktik survived in a different landscape.

      @@Maca-fh4uk your English is very good you don’t need to apologize. I see what you’re saying but it seemed pretty clear that Alina simply did not want those things. Some people want to do different things in life like get married and have kids instead or lead a quiet life growing tomatoes in a small town instead of being a film star or a busy law career in the big city etc. You may think it’s sad. But it’s not your life. I think you’re writing a lot of stories in your head. If you listen to what she said, and beyond listening, look at her body language and her face. I study these things so I notice. She is at peace.
      Don’t get me wrong, I too would’ve liked to see her skate longer, but I’m glad that she’s not doing it because it was very clear to me that she was done with competing. Like truly done. Inside. Herself. Not because of someone else. I’ve been skating and watching skating for over 30 years. And I’ve seen so many people retire over that time. Some of them retired and came back to competitive skating and retired again. Among them Alina is among the youngest retired, but paradoxically probably the one that I can think of the most at peace. So I assume she had her own personal reasons that she strongly feels about :)

    Alexei Yagudin didn't really do a Evgenia, as he was young and early in his quest for Olympic gold when he left Mishin because Plushenko was the Trusova in his stable, in a sense - there wasn't room for the two of them and Mishin leaned Evgeni. It was a very different time, to be sure, but the tenor and ferocity of the rivalries between Russian skaters were quite similar to today's, although the field is way more crowded on the ladies' side. Alexei once answered in an interview, when a commentator remarked that he'd won everything there was to win, "not Russian nationals", so the intra-national rivalry and the favoritism shown Evgeni clearly rankled and stayed with him, and fueled him to a gorgeous, lyrical, choreographically balanced skate like nothing I've ever seen Evgeni do, for my taste, anyway. I've been watching this drama since I was a teen and before there was TH-cam, and I recorded the Salt Lake City skates on VHS (!) and adored Yags' two programs.

    Yana is actually only stating the obvious when it comes to Eteri. And that’s not enough. We all know Eteri’s methods by now and what happens to her skaters. So I say to Yana: if you, that is Evgeni can produce same or better results than Eteri, while keeping the skaters’ health in good shape, I salute you. And by saying this, I am not justifying Eteri’s methods nor am I saying that overworking and ruining the sakter’s body is the only way. I am simply saying, skating is a practical skill - show it. Less talk - more work.

    • @1chienandalou
      @1chienandalou 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah I know we can talk about this till the cows come home. But the sport is the sport and the results are results. These are Olympic level athletes. They break records. They know what they’re doing. Athletes and their parents will go where they think they will get the best results. Ultimately does anyone think if Eteri said ok I am stopping I quit, or I’m changing my ways, that anything at all would change?! They would go to another coach that they thought would bring them the best results. Do you think she alone or her style caused this? Somebody else would replace her within a nanosecond. Things to change, they have to do with the sport and the standards and how they are evaluated. Eteri Simply figured out how to get the best results with the system being the way it is.

    I just watched Trusova's Beijing performance and I have to agree with Ashley Wagner. It was an ice jumping show. I'm guessing they don't put in much choreography to spare Sasha's energy for the jumps. Sis needs a better choreographer, one who can incorporate her jumps.
