from what I understood, vasilisa and veleriy developed feelings for each other and decided to try dating. they dated for a year (? maybe less ) but realized it was a bad idea as they became toxic towards each other. vasilisa broke up w him bc she no longer had feelings but valeriy still loved her. their partnership took a toll and there was alot of tension. they tried to work through it for another year despite their issues but things were never the same. this is what I got from a live veleriy did. you can still find the video online if you want more details. but jts pretty sad such a good thing came to an end. they were what introduced me to figure skating and they really had something special. hope the best for both of them and their future
In this case I don’t think it was the expiration date, it just doesn’t make sense for them (Anya and Sasha) to skate competitively anymore if they can’t skate internationally and unfair scores are given out domestically. They would make more money doing what they’re doing now.
the expiration date is absolutely part of it. anna waited over a year to get serious knee surgery and sasha had a back injury go untreated for god knows how long. because eteri pushed them and made them wait until after beijing to address any of it.

The next olympics wether ur broken or not there will be better skaters so you won't repeat that success probably. And sasha cannot even compete internationally to try for a gold at worlds. Why continue when the only possible path is down from where you are now? Why keep going down the road you've already reached the destination of? If they could compete internationally I think Anna would've quit and Sasha would've stayed. But now, what even is there to do?
I think it's mostly the fact that they don't know if and when they can ever compete internationally. They even said it in the interviews, they don't have the motivation because of that.

Just saw them skating on the internet, but what I did see was a boy who was in love with his partner!He was alway hugging her and looked like giving her help, he had the look of love every time he looked at her! That's the thing about on-screen/on-camera "relations", we never really have the full view or context. Especially because the attributes of a "romantic couple" are very much required for their performances (chemistry, eye contact, synchrony, etc) to really sell the show.

I don't think she cares abt the $$$$. She cares about the prestiege. She wants to display her little talented miracles. She wants thr world to look at her skaters, and by extention her, and think: "amazing, how do they to it? It's crazy! look at them!!". She did it with Yulia, then miss stability Evgenia, then Zagitova with her backloaded program, and then she started the quad revolution. You cannot do that with shows. So it's better to spend your precious time on training for competition instead of rehearsing for shows. (Just what I think).
The Eteri girls are definitely all performing in ice shows. But if you're not in the top shelf from being in competition, you're not getting the *good* parts and the big $ by being just a show skater, and there's often less of a draw if you're not watching a former/current star skater in it (This is not just in Russia, back in the 90's when skating was at its peak in the US and Canada that was the case back then too. No gold medals, no starring role for Disney on Ice....).
Anna scherbakova actually said in a cooking show-intereview (Ляйсан Утяшева youtube channel) at like 45:00 minutes that she actually still has her inner athlete that wants to compete, she had to rest after her leg surgery and its "hard to tell" but it did seem like she's planning to come back later on

So about the doping thing. International skaters can be included in a testing pool. This means that they will show up at random times to test you. You are allowed to miss 2 surprise tests each year and not more (thats why it is just after the third miss that it is a problem). They will tell you when you are selected to be in the testin pool, and each quarter you are in it you are required to tell the federation your whereabout information (where and when you train, where you sleep, what competition you go to etc) so they can surprise test you. I do believe that it is just a mistake because shit happens sometimes. Though I find it surprising that he didn't know that he missed it. Because you usually get notified.
whatever the reason was for Grassl leaving Eteri, at least it means that I won't have to see her as much at competitions this season. I think she still has some non-Russian skaters, but none as big as Grassl.

Anyway people in Russia carry their passport with them nearly 100% of the time so that isn't scandalous. 30k rubles is about $300. A large amount for a teenager but not an amount that would really suggest some kind of long term plan to escape lol

I am not surprised by Anna. It was by sheer contamination of scores that she even won Gold. She struggled all season last year with her fake quad. It was only by the corruption of ISU and politics that she even got counted for a quad in her FS in the Olympics. She does not really have good skating skills yet they ALL (most Russian girls) get scored highly on them.

That interview was done in late April, she has since been sick with mononucleosis from June. She has not yet returned to full training up till now.

Maya skated today and i have to say... I was impressed. It wasn't amazing but no one was amazing today tbh, imo. Alena and her husband... My goodness. They try so hard to keep up with each other and none of the elements where clean but i think they can improve a lot. I was happy to see them today.
Btw did you see the junior ice dancer anna Shcherbakova? It was so confusing to me seeing that name on a junior ice dance long program. I'm glad she had that name. If it wasn't for that i wouldn't have watched that program. Personally I really enjoyed it.

That could also explain the coach story. I don't want to defend the coach in any way, or make a stand, but it's possible that Alina has some abandonment and/or self worth issues. She was basically cut off from her family (aka "they left her") and now her coach wants her to move out? What if she felt that no one wants her anymore and that's why she ran away?

Ho conservato nella mia playlist con molto piacere "La Baciata" ballato in quel modo sui pattini.....mai vista una cosa del genere. Passione, alchimia tecnica, professionalità. In italy si dice "da URLO".....quali siano state le vere motivazioni lo possono solo sapere gli interessati. Qui non si parla di soldi di contratti o di scelte a livello sentimentale personale. Questi due giovani ragazzi in 5 anni sono riusciti a trasmettere delle emozioni forti al PUBBLICO.....lavorando per anni nel mondo dello spettacolo a me una cosa del genere me l'ha trasmessa nei balletti del Grande "Nureev" ❤.È vero due cose professionalmente diverse danza classica e danza artistica su ghiaccio, ma UGUALI nell'esprimere ARTE. It didn't sound like she was kicking her out, I really think it's more likely that the coach's stern tone might have frightened Alina on account of her being a teen, and Alina might've done the standard teen-just-fought-with-parents thing and just left. It sounds a lot more like the coach was going to give her an ultimatum than tell her to leave 'we'll discuss this later'

A teenage girl took her phone with her. Wow. Must have been planning it for months. No seriously. Anyway people in Russia carry their passport with them nearly 100% of the time so that isn't scandalous. 30k rubles is about $300. A large amount for a teenager but not an amount that would really suggest some kind of long term plan to escape lol
You keep saying that carrying a phone, a tablet, a passport and cash is a sign of planned runaway but me and plenty of people (at least in Russia) literally carry passports and tablets/phones in bags on a daily basis. Idk now about the cash (I am not sure if I get it right, maybe it was a sum on card, not particularly cash), 30000 roubles is a lot for me, but I am unemployed and she is a currently successful skater, so it might be not such a big amount of money for her. Russians with a decent Moscow salary can have this amount of cash with them regularly
Yes, I’ve traveled places and was told to always have my passport on me, bc that was the norm, and one could get in trouble for being out of the house without ID. sort of like at home (USA) when we drive cars or drink alcohol we must have our drivers’ license on us. Thanks for sharing this.

Remember their coach even said negative remarks about Valeriy! I think the coach was the shady one against Valeriy! She actually wanted a taller skater for Vasilisa. I heard Maxim wanted to be Vasilisas partner so I think back shaddiness was going on to achieve this!
Alina test skate was very very good. In fact, I thought hers was the top program.

I am not surprised by Anna. It was by sheer contamination of scores that she even won Gold. She struggled all season last year with her fake quad. It was only by the corruption of ISU and politics that she even got counted for a quad in her FS in the Olympics. She does not really have good skating skills yet they ALL (most Russian girls) get scored highly on them.
It was the coaches shadiness that ruined this pair!

It was reported by some bloggers who received an email saying that Sofia is lying that the mom is on vacation. Rumors say, that Alina is having a severe anorexia, that is why she is looking like 13 year old. She is under full control of her coach and her parents don't have an influence on her anymore.
