How to repair and save broken piece of granite counter top with Instantbond Adhesive
This is the best Granite Repair Ever and it is a tragic mistake in the granite industry, however after refusing to just throw away a finished product I tried putting one back together with a certain Instantbond which is Super glue adhesive with epoxy we use and in a very specific way and when I was all done polishing it out and re sealing the stone it was almost as if it had never broke at all! So now instead of throwing away a broken piece of granite we can fix them!!!

I purchased instant bond to fix a broken piece of travertine about 1 inch thick. The first piece I glued held okay. The second piece I had to pull it apart to reposition it about a second after I put it together. Once I did that the bond would not hold. I scraped the glue off tried it again and once again it would not hold. Then I tried another epoxy. Still would not hold. If you can get your item positioned correctly immediately, this is a good glue. If not forget it!

Can I patch a gaping hole from an oversized cutout to make it smaller to accommodate a smaller sink?

Hi I bought the instabond but was unable to fix the large crack behind my sink so I’m going to replace it instead.
Can you tell me how I can unstick the seam this piece is glued to the other slab ?

I found a hairline fracture in my granite and used super glue on the crack then scrapped off the excess and the crack is no longer visible - worked for this kind of repair.

Man, I have about a 12 foot slab I was carrying by myself. Backed with a board. Brought it inside, and all the way down the stairs by myself. As I was getting ready to place it on the ground, it flipped over out of my hand, and shattered. Good thing the board was attached to it, so it's still in one piece, but definitely split in about 5 different places. I'm wondering if it's worth attempting to fix now. This video may give me the drive to try.

How do you repair a through-crack by a cooktop cut-out? Do you inject the glue into the crack? But then how do you get the activator in there as well?

I was hoping to see a demo of Instant Bond's strength, but it wasn't there. Put weight on the glued section or lift it. Leaves me skeptical.

How is this different from the CA glue you can get from any tool and material supplier like GranQuartz or Stone Boss? You can even get it from woodworking supply houses. This is no big deal.

  • @graniteservice6703

This video is a joke. There is nothing special about the glue. all it is is cyanoacrylate (super glue) any one in the industry will tell you that, the activator that he is using (by they way, WAY too much) will turn light colors green. He also fails to show what the break looks like after it is cleaned off. all repairs look great untill you scrape the glue down. I cvan go on about all the other mistakes, but i wont. just know this is not a video ANY person should follow.

Thanks for your advice. Is there a better way to fix the crack? I really want to know before purchasing a new one.....

    • @graniteservice6703
      @graniteservice6703 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

It all depends on what you expect to get out of the repair. Under certain light you will be able to see the different reflection from the glue and the stone. you can polish the fix the blend them together however this might be ill advised if you have resin on the surface of the stone. if you polish stone with a resin finish on it you risk removing the resin in one are, then it will be very difficult to blend the polish in. There is other glues on the market that help as well. I use cyanoacrylate all the time. however an acrylic is safer to use and in some cases you can buy the color match for your stone from a stone supply store like Granquatrz. At the end of the day you just want to get the fix as tight and flat as possible and try to avoid polishing if you can.

he applied glue totally wrong you have to apply glue to one contact face and spray activator to another contact face and then you have to press them up to 5 to 10 seconds it is finished and ready to use

Maybe so, but you shouldn't have to reposition, If you feel that you might have to reposition, than use the adhesive only then when you have the parts perfectly aligned spray on the activator to instantly harden, simple! GREAT PRODUCT use it on just about anything!

      +dodoslovensko www.instantbond.com/frequently-asked-questions/
Yes, the adhesive will take color pigment but since the adhesive is a clear color (color less) it is unnecessary. Please practice on scrap pieces first. For best results use the adhesive alone then align the parts perfectly with a seam setter or equivalent then apply the activator for an instant cure. Give this method a little more time to cure (about 30 seconds) because you have only applied the adhesive to one side. This allows more time to align parts or else it will make an instant contact and not permit time for alignment of parts. If time is not an issue the activator is not required but you will have to give the seam approx, 10 minutes to cure on its own.

Don't waste your time with these guys. I ordered it back in December and never received it, although my credit card was charged. After my email and three phone calls to the company weren't returned, I finally got ahold of someone. The excuse.. "oh, sorry but we haven't had any stock for a while". PISS POOR BUSINESS!! What a huge mistake..

Sergio Rosa I wouldn't repair it. I would cut a new one. It's not to say the repair doesn't repair it but it is still visible and I wouldn't put it in my house. I've seen full slabs come with this from the factory and I've cut around them. This is just a shop cheat no-no. Is your project already installed and needs reoair?
