All i have listed can happen in an instant and life is changed forever. What he may have built financially to safeguard his retirement and his family's welfare can change dramatically for the worse. The winners are lawyers every time. If you Dad is over 70 or really any age, please try again, and explain to him WHY you are asking, that you are not wanting anything but to make sure he gets to enjoy and leave his hard earned assets to those he wants and not anybody else . My older brother, the "responsible" one, said forget it, she's dead, and the bills died with her. I didn't see it that way. For better or worse (and suffice it to say our mother was more than a handful), she was still our mother. I'm not rich - far from it, but paid all of her outstanding debts, and made repairs in her apt for damage that was incurred while she lived there. There is no way on God's Green Earth I would go after my brother's estate, via my niece, for such a petty amount.

You are stressing yourself, your niece, Judge Judy, and ME over such a petty debt. You are either greedy or have an unhealthy relationship with money. Didn’t you love your brother? It’s her choice. I don’t know the woman personally to know what she did or did not do. For all we know she could have been his caretaker at the end of his life. She might not have been who her father called on in his time of financial need. What we do know is her father made her the executor of his estate. Why? He trusted her and based on her representation in the courtroom it clear why he trusted her. She’s competent and honest. It’s also clear why he didn’t make his brother the executor.
Money brings out people’s true colors. You and this uncle would make a perfect pair. There are people in my family I wouldn’t trust as far as I could throw them.
