      @@thomasreddick5908 depends on many things like the size, type of wrap & color. Usually around 6-800 for the wrap & just do it yourself. Shops in my area charge 3k now bc price of material has gone up

    I wanted to say.... this is the best video tutorial on how to wrap carbon fiber. I've watched probably 30 different videos as I'm going to be attempting 7d carbon on my 1994 bmw 325i next week.

    Attempted my first wrap on the hood of my car the other day, first attempt was a fail, wrap stuck to itself and when i tried to separate it split so had to remove it, second attempt went better but not 100% perfect and was using carbon fibre 3m wrap, over stretched in a couple of places and pattern got a little distorted, hopefully my attempt at doing the roof goes better. Thanks for your awesome videos....cheers from downunder. Belated Happy Birthday to your wife.....hope she wasnt too hard on ya...lol

    A little tip if you get any dirt or debris on the on the vinyl, use tape rather than a razor blade. The dirt or debris will stick to the tape and won't damage the vinyl.

    I've tried wrapping stuff 3 times now. I watch your videos, and then I'm sure I can go and do it. You make it look easy. My work always ends up looking bad, especially around corners and curves/bends. I couldn't imagine trying to do something as large as a hood.

    • @SefilASY

  • @kkleinert
    @kkleinert 6 ปีที่แล้ว +21

    I'm always learning something new from your videos. I do agree with some of the commenters here about real vs vinyl but I just want to say something about that. My son bought an FRS with a real carbon fiber hood and, like all other real cf hoods, it was already getting cloudy and it cracked around the stress points so now he is going to replace that one with a steel one. Real cf is expensive and doesn't last. If you're silly enough to spend all that money on a street car vs race car, that's your business but you still look silly if it's your daily driver and not your track car. At least with the wrap, you can replace it for a lot less when it fails than the real thing. So don't be a hater, it's about personal taste. Great job Chris! Happy belated birthday to your wife.

    • @LearnWithEase87
      @LearnWithEase87 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also alot of cars use aluminium instead of steel for the hood now. CF weighs maybe only a few lbs less and cost a crap load more.

    Hey! I just wanted you to know, I really appreciate your channel on TH-cam. I have a civic coup and I carbon fiber wrapped the interior dash and gear box panel today, and I honestly think your channel helped me *the most* with getting it right. I really took my time and it turned out great! It was my first attempt and it could have easily been a waste of vinyl had it not been for your quality instruction. Cheers! The first after market project I have ever done.

    Nice thing about the manual hood prop is that you never have to replace the gas springs that inevitably wear out. I prefer having the OEM prop. Worked better than my ski pole I used in the Jeep Grand.

      Exactly...if we wanted a hydraulic prop that will wear out before the engine we would buy an acura lol..or we could waste money on manufacturers that don't prioritize safety and reliability..I know someone who lost a thumb because his clients 2016 beamers hood bit him..he ended up replacing the hydraulic prop lol

    Be confident, don't overstate car knowledge, stick to to loving the wrap material, listening to you talk about why you like that stuff was the best most smoothly flowing part of the video 👌 also the manual hood prop for 20 years so the car doesn't eat me when it comes into the shop and the owner has neglected to replace the gas struts so they give out half way through replacing that wimpy 51 group battery. I wish I had a shop bro sick content 👍👍👍

    1. Why 70% and not 91% isopropyl alcohol
    2. Why not wearing gloves the entire time
    3. Why didn’t you tuck the wrap underneath the hood
    4. Why is the wrap direction going from passenger window to driver side bumper
    5. What is 4D about that wrap

I did one half at a time. Otherwise, I would have to lift and lay down a million times. You are amazing with that vynil texture. I used Vivid as well, just different carbon fiber and color. Umm the price difference for a real carbon fibre hood vs the wrap is about 20x as much. So for most people getting something that looks just as good as the real thing for 20x less price they will. Only certain people will be able to tell the difference such as motor enthusiasts or retailers. Most average person would not.

    Another great job.
    The only thing I don't like about the matte or satin 'carbon' vinyl is that it isn't realistic.
    What I mean is, in reality the only matte or satin carbon fiber is 'dry' carbon on race cars/bikes.
    If the vinyl were gloss, it would look much better.

      Actually, they don't include hood shocks due to keeping the cost down. (not that it cost them that much honestly)
      It's almost the same as why we have different crappy stock stereo systems. Give us the option to get a car without the stock stereo system.
      Nice job on the wrap, should have done the blue between the hood and grill as well to blend it in. It looks weird without it.

    Is it weather proof... meaning will it split when months of hail & cold rain comes around, looks really good& since you have the same Honda Civic as mine you want to switch to start all over and I'll take yours 😁

    So 4D carbon fiber was the 1st wrap I ever did myself and it came out close to perfect…does that mean if that was my 1st then I’m a natural and should make a business?

    Hey Christian, I really love the videos, they are very informative and detailed. Could you post a link for the hood prop tool that you use? Thank so much

    Just curious ... 30 min labor + material. How much total for the hood? Good video BTW. Nice results

    Great demo! Would love to do similar on my own car. Have bad clear coat peel though on hood and roof. Any inexpensive prep options to make the job look better? Sanding 1000k grit? Bondo? Need advice.
