The first time I heard this was on the radio Derek and his band Mike who wrote it sang it. I was like wow but then when I heard TTB do it and Susan and Mike singing it I was blown away❤❤❤❤Swampette❤❤❤❤ it hooked me on TTB
First chills then tears then smiles.......this song does it to me every single time.....all versions. You make me feel good all over! Thank you for sharing.
After discovering TTB nearly 6 years ago, and after seeing them three times in London, once in Berlin, and once in Glasgow, oh to see them in my city Edinburgh, they never let me down, 🏴 ♥
At 60 years old and I’ve really just come across this soul satisfying band of magical sound I am truly blessed I can only hope they come to the uk before I pop my clogs🤞🤞🤞
I was a late comer to TTB, but love them. Now, Blackberry Smoke has tweaked my ears & pushed my JBL's to the max. Last year they toured together. Pure magic.
I had never considered Trucks as one of the best. Then I gave him a serious listen. He is a better slide player than Duane. More versatile and plays with more feel. He's right there Dave Gilmour and Mick Taylor in my book.
To me, this blending of bands cannot be beat. Does it even happen? They are still together. Somehow egos are set aside. Derek and Susan. Beautiful. A very special gathering of talent. Love you all.
No egos! I have known Derek & Susan for about 20 years, & they could not possibly be nicer, more humble, & gifted musicians! No attitudes in this band!
i heard the studio version before any other arrangement and boy can i say that theirs nothing like live music, the esoteric music such as this, with the calm beginning of the solo ending in a cry of self love, that has me envisioning a careful and quiet walk through the city turned into a joyful dance across the streets....really puts into perspective "dance like nobody's watching"
My taste in music runs the gamet of country to jazz to alternative and just plain rock n roll but I keep on gravitating to Takeshita trucks band and specifically the piece “midnight in Harlem “. Susan and dereck are so soul filling play that number so sweetly I actually start crying- crying with. The joy of the heal
The trombonist's dress though and her moves ... Everything funky, fine, phat and free - one time just once I wanna hear this song in Harlem at midnight being played by this band ... And that trombonist in her dress ... Everything funky, fine, phat and free
She is one of my favorite parts of this video besides the song itself. She’s so beautiful swaying to the music, looking so cool and giving us life with that Trombone.
Took my daughter to see her first real concert with TTB and the first thing she said was, "Wow! They have a female trombonist! She kicks ass" My daughter plays the sax so she appreciates the horns.
Watching Derrick play with Susan's haunting vocals gives me chills. No wonder Joe plays with Beth Hart. Insane artistry. Thanks for all you do and what you give.
Once upon a time Comes a Band of People with so Much Love and Soul, with Nothing Better to do than Pour it All out freely and whole HEARTEDLY to the People all that Beautyful Lovely Amazing Heart Rocking Music Absolutely Breath Taking Making You Melt and feel Love taking You back way back over Mountains and to the Sea as far and Wide and Free... If I could I couldn't express how Deeply and Spiritually Free you Guys Made me feel today... I'm so happy and Greatful I Found You TTB I'm Totally In Love with Your Amazing Gifts Thank You !!!!!!! 🌹💗❤️🌹❤️💗🌹❤️🌹❤️💗🌹❤️
Simply amazing this song really help me in my sobriety l was in rehab the first time I ever heard it I almost thawt I was in heaven. Thank God!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love this song, Susan is simply wonderfull and Derek just outstanding he is the best slide man in my opinion in music. Then the band yes the band like a perfect fit puzzle. Everyone has His/Her part and does it so well. They are a perfect group of musicians. Don't ever give in folks.
@@jimherdman3694 Mattison may be the backup singer in this band but he is no slouch. Great singer/songwriter. Great mind too - graduated from Harvard University.
We saw Derek and his band playing for Eric Clapton in Chicago. That was quite time ago and looking back today I am not sure who did we enjoyed more, Eric c or Derek? Silly question, they both just were just out of this world. And an addiction of Tedeschi, is just perfect mix. Tedeschi is just gift for Heaven she is just wonderful. Love you guys all. Please come to back Illinois soon, please.
Could watch an endless amount of this band playing this tune... the spaciousness of the arrangement lets Trucks stretch out so much and it's always so satisfying
@@williamcoleman2761 The Derek Trucks Band's lead vocalist, before Derek & Susan decided to have one band, not each having a band. I have known them since summer of 2000, & wondered why they did not do it sooner! It made sense on so many personal & musical reasons!
Of all the versions I’ve heard them do, this one really gets me. Derrick, the horns, the sax, and most especially Susan’s woman cry as she paints a sonic picture of midnight in Harlem. I’m quite literally in tears.
I like a lot of music. I drift from Floyd to nirvana and everything in between. This song in all its versions, to me, is musical perfection. Her voice, his guitar, the total accompaniment is just something of legend. Live, studio, it just doesn't matter. They kill it every single time. Bravo for creating something that is timeless and perfect.
Love you all. I first heard the Allman Brothers when I was 12. I can hear them in Derek's slide. I see that as gravy on the cake because you are your own beautiful band. The music is so fine and there's this incredible legacy line as well.
Never really listened to lot of southern blues rock country, jazz Latin jazz avante garde fusion etc u get the just of my collection.but these guys? Susan, Derek? I'd walk to see these guys!! Love them absolutely added to my collection.Midnight up in Harlem is my favorite tune...as she sez.."no exception to the rule"...
My twin Sis sent this song to me when my daughter and I had to run and hide in a D.V. shelter. It was my night to mop this 4 story dorm building I was so moved by her thinking of us, only to be set on fire by this song from that very moment. It gave me the strength I thought was buried. 3 years later I found myself alone on a TRAIN to Florida from N.J. to reunite with my authentic old soul of a beautiful daughter. Full circle TTB✌️♥️☮️. I Finally had the dream to witness you all at the Count Basie Theater in Red Bank, NJ 2018. To my spiritually deep surprise, unbeknownst to Thine 😂self, there was my twin ☮️🙏♥️. Side Note: Icing on the Magnificent Cake I call my life, ... my Twin and I were on our way to get a few cold ones, headed toward us, ME ,🤪 as I felt like I was floating two beautiful men I stopped them, put my hand on one of their chests, we all stopped dead in our tracks ad I said, "Finally some beautiful Brothahs up in here"!💋😎♥️🌻✌️☘️🎶 Fade To Black.... As the show started there they stood on the THANK YOU GOD TTD Stage!! Woo! Hoo! Forever loyal to this beautiful goose bump flowin Family of band. I end this with Thank You I love you all. ♥️✌️🙏☮️💋 I would not have made it the same way without you💋 xoxoxo.
This band are amazing. They are all superb musicians. Derek is an incredible guitarist. Slide guitarist supreme. Susan has a beautiful voice. The mixture of organ and brass is superb.
Derek was so disinterested in the show I saw that I got angry. Most of the time he stood facing the stage right and sometimes facing even backwards. Made no attempt to even look engaged. The horns were way too loud and disjointed also, they could lose all the horns and be better without them. The keyboards were uninspired and barely audible. I was highly disappointed. I will probably give them another chance, maybe they all had the flu.
Just saw them before the COVID-19 shutdown, they were absolutely amazing and blew the roof off. Greetings from Orange Beach Alabama, it’s 95 degrees with 55% humidity feels like 105 degrees...lol Mike
I so want to see these live, Susan with incredible vocals and Derek, to me the best soulful slide player on the planet right now. Incredible noise, awesome
Hi I just found you all on TH-cam while I was browsing and I love love your band especially “soul seranade” and “a higher ground” or maybe “ I got a made up mind”. I’ve been playing your songs over and over, I am sure that my families Lu is tired of hearing them over and over-Derek can play that guitar and you are a soulful singer. Come to California would ya.
It's her voice - The sound of a Women's and Mother's voice. So appealing and comforting at the same time. Sheer Beauty.
I never tire of listening to this, bloody brilliant
No magic mixer, no overdub, they are as pure as music gets. Gives you goosebumps
It literally does!

I’m never immune to this song. No matter how many times I hear it (and I know the arrangement very well by now) and still... the tears always come.
Amen 🙏
I saw once live and I believe every version on the internet and get emotional every time
Trucks is amazing. No flash or theatrics. Like van Gogh, alone with his canvas, paint, brushes and genius.
And a band of studio legends..
this song is true greatness. Just a pleasure to hear.
agree!!!!
Not exactly alone...
First chills then tears then smiles.......this song does it to me every single time.....all versions. You make me feel good all over! Thank you for sharing.

There's been some phenomenal guitar solo's over the years but this tops them all for me, never been moved so much as when I first heard it

Stay put Gary Drew don't clog your pops yet ... or pop your clogs yet. I am in LA hoping mask will go, they will come... Stay put bro
The best music I've heard in a long, long time!
Susan's voice is a beautifully instrument as well. Honest music
That is a hell of a compliment! And I agree 1000%
The Best!!!
2:35 goosebumps kick in and zone out to the groove. Who hasn’t run from the past. Glory!
God sent Susan and Derek to let us know what music in heaven will be like!
Amen!
Such a Great Band!!!
Amen 🙏
Just about the best that I've heard in a long time! Great musicians loving what they are doing...
Truly, Derek is one of the great guitarists in rock-n-roll history.
not even close
Ian Kerr doesn't know shit. All guitarists consider him one of the best.
I had never considered Trucks as one of the best. Then I gave him a serious listen. He is a better slide player than Duane. More versatile and plays with more feel. He's right there Dave Gilmour and Mick Taylor in my book.

because of the love
Especially "Midnight In Harlem!"
Derek Trucks plays with so much soul and emotional intensity!
He does the Allman Brothers proud
And yet so humble.....they're great

Nine minutes and forty five seconds never seemed so...beautiful.
In my long lifespan Derek Trucks is my Icon of slide guitar... still more his music is flawless and everyone who works with him feels good.

Accurate comparison :)
I really like how it starts out, derek serenading with the saxaphone! The whole band is awsome!! Cant get enough!!!

They are so good together. The band members are amazing. That is something that is hard to find
I have been a Susan Tedeschi fan since her first LP. I love that she and Derek Trucks have joined forces.
LOL, they've been married for almost 20 years and have a couple of kids.
