This band they put together is full of exceptional talent. They are writing their story now and each chapter is better than the last....
I have seen them twice , they are just amazing ! Last show i was at everyone was on their feet dancing. They did a similar version to this song and at the end Derek knocked it out with a killer solo
I totally agree, it's a heartbreakingly beautiful version of this song, one of my favorites, too. Goosepumps all over my skin and tears in my eyes. For me there is no other guitar player who plays so tender, emotional and sensitive like Derek. His playing is absolutely outstanding❣️ What a joy to have TTB in my life🥰❤️

We went from Stockholm to Paris to see them. The lyrics are so strong (it reflects our own lives), you can imaging our emotions when we heard the fantastic intro! Fantastic! In the beginning sounds like Indian Raag Yaman Kalyan (and a very similar raga named Maru Bihag) playing on the slide guitar. Raag Yaman uses sharp fourth (same as Lydian mode).
So damn good!!!! Her voice always reminds me of Bonnie Raitt..... magical! And Derek is simply the Wizard of Oz.. best slide guitar player on the planet!!!
This song is going to become a modern-day blues/soul standard, it is a straight descendant of old 60s/70s classics (Etta James, Curtis Mayfield, Isaac Hayes) but magnificently recast for the 21st century. I first encountered it in the outstanding concert film of their gig at the 2014 Vienne festival, the version there is epic and the film made me realize almost at once what a unique band this is (it's shown several times on Mezzo over the years and has also been uploaded to TH-cam). These guys are the real deal, and while they could be said to provide the missing link between several major 1970s acts (Derek and the Dominos, Allman Brothers Band, The Band, Nina Simone, The Crusaders...) they are here and now and still developing. :)
He’s heavily influenced by the sitar. A lot of music has come from Indian roots. Any slide, blues player has once found a part of their sound from that instrument. Slide especially.

I was in London and Glasgow and never heard it, I understand the reason in Glasgow, but as far as I'm concerned this should be on every set list, as its the most beautiful piece of music and there's no words to describe Susan's vocals on it. That aside I simply love everything about the band, here's to the next time. 🎶 ♥ 🏴

Thanks for posting. We are from Vancouver, Canada. Due to flukey timing and not caring about ticket prices, saw them in NYC in Oct. Mind blown. We listen everyday now; this extended version is incredible. Their music is tear-inducing and joyous. Authenticity comes shining through.
Well said jengolf but there are no flukes or happenstance in this brief existence. You were Blessed to be exactly where you needed to be to experience the soul stirring sounds of TTB. Larrysharp is incorrect. Soul Music may have started with Mozart but it was Perfected & Personified in America.
It doesn't sound Indian, it IS Indian ! Trucks went to a classical Hindustani music school in California. It was indeed a great concert. The spirit of Duane lives on in Derek, without a doubt ! The Peter Frampton concert that same week was equally great. Unfortunately, it was probably his last in Paris, as he is ill...

The way I heard it, Mike Mattison wrote the lyrics, Derek Trucks wrote the music. But I also recall reading somewhere that this was a total collaboration between the two and other band members. The TTB just has it together as a group, a band, a business, a family. Anyway I never tire of listening to this, it's an E CHORD thing.
My favorite song written over the past 20 years, super special song where the Derek’s intro and jam, the lyrics, Susan’s finesse, the arrangement seem perfectly matched and you want it to run forever. I particularly love the chord change after the 2nd verse leading into the chorus and love the dynamics that Kofi added with the organ. Interesting that in every video I’ve seen of it, Mike is playing acoustic guitar as he sings the background vocals. And he released his own version of the song on one of his albums as well.
Wish your band would travel down to FT MYERS FL. We could use some good happy music after Hurricane Ian tried to destroy us. Couple nice places could accommodate you. Please.
