i stopped gaming when i was 16 years old. i was fine at first but i started to have withdrawal systems. I felt giddy at times and even un-content with myself. Felt like i was wasting, had difficulty staying awake even when i slept a full 7-9 hours of sleep. So i turned to drugs, thanks to drugs i am no longer addicted gaming. Thank you drugs for turning my life around
Goes to show addiction is the problem, not gaming.. People with addictive personalities could turn to drugs, alcohol, gaming, whatever. Been gaming since I was a kid. I'm 31 now. Never got "addicted" to anything.
you are such an idiot they dont say that they say that you can play video games but dont exceed the limits and also they want to show you that there a lot of things in the life to do instead sit on a chair and play video games in the whole of day
I’m sure a lot of my gamers can relate, but I’ve had a lot more fun gaming till 4 in the morning with my friends on Discord then going to the bar and wasting money on alcohol and drugs. The fact that this host is trying to control the way these people have fun is so close minded that it hurts.
Worst that can happen if you're drunk: you'll get an STD from irresponsible sex, humiliated or even killed. Worst that can happen while gaming: you'll forget to eat or drink.
Vice really should have considered getting someone that understood E-sports and its culture more. While the perspective of an outsider is interesting for sure, his attitude is not one of understanding.
I think they wanted someone who doesn't understand esport and gaming culture so that they could get the view and opinions of an outsider on these topics which, imo, makes it more interesting. The problem is that this guy doesn't try to understand it and instead tries to force his opinions/beliefs and hobbies on tge viewer and the people he meets in this documentary
Instead of understanding esports he wanted them to go to a club as if that's any better. Rather spend my money and time gaming than getting wasted all the time
It's awkward that he doesn't play with them. It's like if a gamer made a documentary about going to a club and he just sat there watching while everyone else had fun.
Yeah I don't get this at all. The 'reporter' asks these people to appear on a film about e-sports and then proceeds to get pissed off that they're playing games and drags them out to a club. Wanker.
It's not even the fact that he's just advocating for them to replace one cheap thrill with another that bothers me, it's how he's so self righteous about it. It's as if he's equating clubbing with learning an instrument or something that gives a real sense of long term fulfillment in life. The vast majority of hobbies are complete wastes of time, so if you're going to try and make someone feel insecure about their hobby of choice, at least make sure yours isn't equally pointless. All that matters is they're spending their lives doing what they enjoy. If they wanted to be out clubbing, they probably would be.
BeScaredOfDarkness yes I agree! As a dancer and a gamer, I prefer to spend my time in gaming and train myself in dance class, join the dance competition rather than going to the club. I don't like alcohol and smoke
S Steel .. gaming is a big part of our future . Ppl that don’t game always seem mad at gamers. Get over it. Gaming isn’t going anywhere. It’s only going to get bigger and bigger and bigger
RML 3000 v The problem isn't with gaming itself, but with addiction. There's nothing wrong with gaming when theres moderation, but the problem with addiction is that there isn't any moderation. If you can control your gaming and you don't want to quit then game on, but if it's having a negative impact on your life then you should quit. We also need to realize that there is more to life than just gaming and there are things out there that are better than gaming.
I felt the same but then I realised.. its just an easy means to get girls. Everything else is irrelevant. If you don't care about getting girls just don't go.. :)
Its sort of sad you brought the gamers to participate in the octagon club but didn't take much time to participate in their pc bangs. You tried their food, tried their drinks, but didn't try their entertainment.
To be fair, nobody probably wanted him on their team. Kinda sad. Just be who you are. At least gaming community is more supportive of each other. The "clubbing" community probably as way more deaths due to substance abuse or depression.
Documentary should be re titled 'The dark side of being forced into going to a shit club with a patronizing westerner who can't even remember or bother to learn your name so refers to you as the guy with glasses all night'
Haha gaming is way better than clubbing in general- but especially in south Korea where you aren't likely to succeed from clubbing- as opposed to gaming which will give most of those kids their best chance at climbing the financial ladder.
Because his selfish ass wanted to go clubbing and continue getting drunk. Trust me, I could tell by the way he said “there’s not even any alcohol here” where it was going.
This guy acts like once they got to club their gonna want to stop gaming forever. To some people it's a hobby just like a sport would be. He seems like a nice person but not suited for this kind of documentary.
Aren't journalist not supposed to interfere with what happens? Bringing them to a night club like you're some white supremacist telling them what is good for them. If they want to play games, let them.
Damian Wayne Well, that's one way to look at it. I felt that he wasn't enjoining himself here 4:41 and 5:04 then at 5:35 he was like, fuck it let's do something I LIKE.
Ok.. A. He is paid to cover story and bring back content that is entertaining.. B. They would have anti socially sat on their computers for hours and hours.. No interaction, not much to watch.. C. The journo looked bored as shit also.. Sitting there watching them play their computers .. He needed more 'fill & substance' for the doco
What an incredibly insincere and judgemental look at esports... Imagine if a reporter went to a soccer camp and said "we were having fun and becoming friends, but now all they want to do is play soccer. So I'm just gonna stand back here and wait for them to be done, and maybe we can be friends again." I know Vice is stupid at times, but come on... This is beyond dumb. You went there with an agenda and a preformed notion of what you wanted to say, and went full-on confirmation bias. Open-minded my ass.
While I do agree that gaming could become an addiction and hinder some aspects of one's life , making these people go to a club to get smashed is hardly any better...
dude dont mock nerds they get paid more than you can imagine, look at all these scientists, doctors, or bill gate and many others. while you go pluming and stuff they get to set behind a nice desk that gets more respect that you can ever get.
Degenerate western culture which considers adultery, cheating, alcohol, prostitution, homosexuality as civilised stuff but oh my when some Asians play video games.
Playing 2-4 hours a day and having fun with your friends isn't bad and there is not "dark side" to it. However doing what these fools are doing, literally wasting the best gift of life, youth. Playing 12 hours a day, sitting in one place, with barely any excercise is horrible and the reporter did a great job showing that!
dude don't reply to him lol he is tryign to say playing games is the best thing in the lfie i hope he will realise before he will get ... up i hope he will not find him self alone just ( when there is no internet O.O ) he will have no clue how to survive on taht world and that's dangerous and as u said playing for some hours with friends it's not a problem at all ; usually
Wow these student gamers are wasting away chatting and snacking together while participating in a shared hobby. Why not take them to an expensive club none of them are interested in, where they all feel super uncomfortable and can't even hear what each other are saying, then get them drunk on overpriced vodka? That's a much more social activity
haha the host guy was super dull anyway- it was cringey just to watch him talk about the food let alone the rest of the vid. I'd rather just sit in a corner alone all night. At least I'm interesting to me and won't judge myself like that guy probably would. lol
he seems to be only concerned with clubbing... something i've noticed is often associated with the lowest common denominator mindless masses... not to say everyone who goes clubbing is brainless but there's a majority of them out there that do
I used to enjoy clubbing but you guys are right: Most people who go there are mindless. If you have deeper feelings and thoughts like I do the only way to relate to clubbers is to get really high and/or drunk and THEN start talking to them -- to get to their level mentally (and even then it's a careful balance because you might say or do something you'll regret).
Faissal Bensefia well, technically it's defined as a physical activity. That being said, I don't agree with the OP and it could be argued that keystrokes and mouse clicks are physical activities. To the OP, just because you don't like or understand something doesn't make it any less legitimate.
So right! He's like "look at these nerds playing games and being anti social" does he not notice them talking and laughing within their group? Non gamers will never understand the bond others gamers have.
I like the subject matter but I think the host/presenter was a poor choice... He comes off as almost mocking the culture - which for obvious reasons is easy - but if the intention was to an be an explorative exposé then maybe it would have been better to leave bias at the door.
I agree. I know of e-sports, but know nothing about them, so I find this series very interesting. However, the journalist does come off as condescending at times and seems ignorant. I don't like the personal opinions of one presenter clouding an otherwise great documentary series.
I was thinking the same thing. As soon as they were in the PC joint his commentary got really "poor me" like... Dude are you mad that they're speaking Korean and you can't understand? You're mad that they're sitting down and ignoring your white male presence? You're mad that a group of gamers just drank and ate and now want to play games? Yeah.... That kind of turned me off to the whole report.
I would not be surprised if VICE does this for a reason. Although all of the VICE reporters seem to be clueless every where they go, the only place they would feel comfortable in would be the inside of a Starbucks or at and Apple store.
+Hank Han You're right. A confident white. He's stern, strong and knows what to say, when to say it. He knows how to manipulate, deceive and take advantage of the innocent. WHOOPS! Almost got confused there. Love each other like beautiful little snowflakes caught in a gentle winter breeze. So sayeth the lord..of gaming. ;D
thats not the point of this video. these people are playing video games in an unhealthy amount. theres moderation to life, yes you can enjoy video games, but not binge play it. you need to stimulate your muscles, your brain, social life, you need to stimulate everything for a healthy life lol
SleazyRoseWalker I agree about this reporter but gaming does reduce your ability to socialize and interact with people in general .I particularly noticed this in a few of my friends even though I game myself I have noticed cutting back on game time I feel more confident and comfortable to talk with people in my social and work life. I believe this only applies if you are gaming upwards of 6 hours +a day though .
Playing non stop can damage your eye sight ? let me tell you what you get from clubbing : side effects of alcohol both long term and short term, literal AIDS, die from traffic accidents to name a few. Real world is dangerous as fuck. And NO FUCKING RESPAWNS. The devs suck .
this feels like a weird propaganda piece against gaming, how the reporter acts, how they change the music at the club and make the video more fun and upbeat, and they treat individuals who play video games like they can't interact socially and aren't "really" having fun
You could say that every single hobby on the planet is someone attempting to "escape reality." How does escaping reality automatically mean the person isn't having fun?
ROID ... the reporter is a self righteous douche bag . So we are supposed to think the reporter is a more elevated individual because he drinks and goes to clubs as opposed to enjoying gaming . Like wtf
My idols: Nadal, Djokovic, Ronaldo, Messi, Lebron, Idols of Retarded "eSport is real sport" Generation: "Fucking Twitch streamers lmao" Go outside idiots and play tennis or at least watch it instead of watching someome sitting on his ass playing games
why did he drag the guys into a night club? i don't get it. like this is somehow the way you're supposed to live? is going clubbing really better / more acknowledgeable than hanging out playing games together?
what's ironic is that held in comparison with the internet café there's something equally as listless and detached about the people hopping up and down on a typical clubbing dance floor.
DerEineDa96 Agreed. I detest clubbing. Waste of money and promotes hooliganism. I feel it's the place sheltered kids go to in order to pop their cherry. But those of us not born with a silver spoon in our asses see right through the pretentious bs of the clubbing lifestyle.
What a weirdo. He says the night is “over” when they start playing games, but they are clearly talking and having a good time. Only he is by himself not socializing. Then he makes them all go to a club, for what reason exactly? Because they won’t like him otherwise. He needs alcohol and loud music as a distraction otherwise they might actually have to have a conversation about something other than partying!
Mike .Silas This loser decided to instill his ideals into these poor kids. Hope he gets fired honestly. He’s like one of those people that force you to smoke your first cigarette. Now if you’d excuse me, im gonna go and leave a dislike😂
Unless you are a girl, a good looking dude, or like dancing, drinking, and high energy, clubs also suck. That being said, the reporter got left out at the internet cafe because he didn't bother to play a game and he doesn't speak Korean! Then he forced them to do something he wanted. Gonna have to give this a thumbs down, Vice. Do better.
A lot of club culture is so fake, just because someone tells you a drunken secret doesn't mean you are actual friends. My brother went out every weekend for years, came back with fun stories but he didn't form any real connections, it was all just convenience. He asked a lot of people he called friends who he went to clubs with to go out on his 21st birthday (live in England so start clubbing at 18) & many said they would turn up but only 2 people did & they were old school friends he Xboxes with. My brother was heart broken, no one made the effort, they didn't really care.
@@NotAnotherKuromi Well, it sucks he poured that much of his heart to them. It pays to discern; that's part of common sense. You can't expect people who may seem like friends on one night to remember you and stick around. Who he thought were friends, those people were probably drunk and super happy, going along with the conversation and hyper-optimistic but forget when sober. It's quite normal, i wouldn't expect people i'm hanging out with drinking to remember me. Childhood friends on the other hand, we all remember each other. Plus, going out and having fun is a good thing to do; live your life, have fun! You generally don't go clubbing to make deep connections lol, and as good as those also are, there is more to life than even that; variety of experience. I'm an enthusiastic gamer btw
@@spiral-viper Pretty much everyone is going to a club to get laid and that's it. They want to rape drunk girls and tell the story to the friends the next day.
I'm a good-looking girl (or at least was.. a decade ago when I went to clubs...lol) and clubs have always SUCKED imo. Over-priced drinks of you even drink, music usually bites @ss and is too loud to hear anyone over, and sweaty strangers wanting to dry hump each other. No thanks. I liked bars better and even then could have basically the same issues. I'd definitely rather game (and if it had the potential to make me more successful and wealthy...like is a perk for kids in South Korea especially...).
Going to a club doesn't necessarily mean you'll get laid. In America, at least, most females are there to talk to and dance with each other while the guys stand around watching. That's what I saw in California, anyway, 99% of the time. And in the bars? Almost everyone in there is male.
I remember the clubs and bars, and how most guys fared, it is not as easy as you're saying. Being able to smooth talk better doesn't guarantee a thing. I haven't been single in a long time regardless but all the best to you.
Not everyone is into clubbing though ..^-^" I don't drink and I like quiet places with less people, so I've never been to a club before and never plan to, lol.
xiaorishu I don’t really like clubs either, but I have had the urge to go when I get in my alpha female mindset. I feel like I want to conquer something and I normally leave with a girl and well........the rest is herstory 👅👅👅
yajo891 Comparatively speaking, yes. But Asian girls have smooth hairless skin, and they don't get body odor and their pussies don't smell bad like non-Asian girls.
Minute 5 hes making it look like its such a shame that they went from eating and drinking ("having fun"), to gaming. He says it with such a sad undertone "They dont even serve alcohol here." Fuck me... what a savage. So you need alcohol to have a fun time ye? Savage...
+StokeYdral THANK YOU!!!!! i was thinking the exact same thing. its just HIM thats not having fun. everybody seemed like they were smiling laugjing and STILL having conversation while playing. shouldve chosen a different guy for this documentary cuz he doesnt see the fun factor in gaming
Why is it so hard to understand gaming? Why is it normal for someone to get wasted, go clubbing, do drugs but it's somehow weird for someone to play games?
get wasted and clublife is an experience that'll give to your personality in some way. esports don't. that's why these kids are so lifeless outside the bang.
Tamás Gróf no it really doesn't. Getting drunk and sloppy around a bunch of randoms is the most overrated thing in the world I will never understand it.
SevenWilly Yes, it really does. Sitting on a bang all day? People who like to get smashed off their ass, frequent clubs, etc, still hold a job, still function in society. Geeking all day makes you as disfunctional as a meth addiction. I don't knock gaming, I do it too sometimes, but they took it to a level where it's way worse than drinking and getting laid. It's not in the activity, it's what you experience. I don't drink much either, or go to clubs. But this is kindergarten level here, where it all begins. These kids would panic and call for a medic if they got a bit tipsy. They're walking around numb minded thinking about the last bang they did and why that would be better than this, to meet people, find new interests, etc etc. Perfect path towards a mid-life crisis.
Where did i say playing games all day, every day is healthy? No, that isn't healthy but compared to drinking and partying it is. If you were to drink all day every day you'd die. If you gamed all day everyday youd be brittle/ weak, have eye problems and most likely social probelms but you wouldn't die. And honestly drinks are as much as a clitch as a screen is. People act like "oh you need a computer screen to be able to take to people" and that isn't the case for the vast majority of gamers. Even the ones in this video go out to the PC bangs in groups of real life friends. Meanwhile alcohol does the same thing. So much people use alcohol as a clutch. they need it to be social and give them the confidence to talk to people. I stopped partying about half way into my college life. And i'm so much happier. Seriously, i was wasting money, to get sloshed, with peolpe i don't care about, not remember my night, and for what? It's overrated as hell. Now i stay in on the weekends and play games with my best friends from home and I'm so much happier. Plus the vast majority of people have no problem playing games and balancing life. I play only on the weekends and work go to classes during the week. And gaming all day makes you as disfunctional as a meth addiction? thats insanely ridiculous.
SevenWilly Drinking and partying everyday will not kill you, unless you straight up an alcoholic. But let's pretend you're right, drinking every day kills you? Gaming all day means you have no life. Take your pick. And what do you mean "you didn't say gaming all day"? That's what this video is about, mate. What else is there to relate to? Am I supposed to figure out your inner train of thought differing from the context of the documentary? Too much gaming is as addictive as drugs, mate. There were kids killing themselves when they weren't allowed to get on their xbox. And this ain't no "I read it somewhere bs", I've been heavily addicted to crystal and I can see the supposed similarities. What you said about your regrets about partying and people you didn't care about and getting smashed? Mate, you can't judge that based on your own negative experiences from partying. You got nipped at? bullied? fake friends? trick chicks? There are other ways to party, you can go out there with your friends and just have fun, just as much as you have on your weekend lan parties. You look at a club and think "idiots wasting their lives"? I get how prejudice always come from past impressions though. It's not gaming against going out. It's gaming 14/7 against going out. Sure, stay the weekend, game with your friends and whatnot, it's fun and not the problem presented here. Just your reply is out the context of this video, which is what I was replying to, rationally assuming that's what you based your comment on as well.
As a gamer/professional hermit, I can understand someone outside the culture finding it odd that a night in front a gaming-centric screen is far more appealing to the "coolness" that is generally associated with a banging nightclub. The problem here is that this journalist is an awkward hipster douche, who can't be seen as "cool" in any setting. Also, he assumes that the social interaction ends once the gaming starts. Personally, I'd prefer coop/competitive gaming with friends in my living room over some pc bar (westerner alert), regardless, either is more appealing than overspending on drinks while drunken meatheads are one accidental bump away from picking a fight in some nightclub. They are also awful places to meet women.
***** i think it's pretty normal and civilized, bars and clubs are decent social venues for meeting new people or just having some fun with your mates and there are many people and girls there. I mean if your lucky enough you might meet someone in a video game but the likelhoood isn't too big is it?
GtheMVP there is no "social interaction" per se in gaming. most of the discussions in co-op or multiplayer games revolve around the game being played, decisions, strategy, insults and a lot of flame. Nothing really that can be regarded as "social" when by social you understand actually interacting with people on a human and personal level, like getting to know them, their likes, dislikes, their views, talking about subjects of common interest etc.And if you think that a night-club is just about drunken meat-heads you're wrong. but just like gaming has their flamers and game-ruiners, so do clubs have their meat-heads
pl4free i'm gonna have to disagree with you. If you solo queue and play with random people, what you say is correct, but not if you play with friends. me and some friends used to meet up a lot at someone's place and game together and obviously you don't talk about the game exclusively, especially when taking a smoke between games or while queing but also during the games. I can tell you another story, a friend of mine used to play a lot of league and through facebook he found a local community of players. He then regularely skyped / played with those dudes and they ended up getting pretty good friends.
thefuckinfist sure, if you do a lan-party with friends, then it becomes a social event as well. you're right about that. you can also meet new people online, but from my own experience the relationship usually fades once you stop playing that game. but that's kind of normal and real-life relationships also fade
this is so biased. He describes them as "locked into their computers" and describes it as the fun ruined... maybe for some people it's more fun to play games together instead of acting like an animal in a club and fucking up your liver. Anything sounds like an awful time when you describe it poorly.
I play Dota-2 at 04.00 - 08.00 AM almost every day at home. Not because I was addicted, but I always woke up too early and often there was no activity to do. I went to college at 10:30 AM until the afternoon. For me, game = having fun.
What the actual fuck? He wants them to be social so he takes them to a night club? What on earth is so social about getting wasted in a deafeningly loud and dark environment anyway? These kids were not even problematic gamers; they got together, had a nice relaxed evening with some food and drinks, and played some games together. Seems plenty social to me! At least more so than the stupid club. And the way he seemed to think he was "showing them the joys of life" for the first time was gross as fuck. Like an out of place stepdad or something. Even worse was *the way he talked about the boy with the glasses*; assuming by looks alone that he is not the social or outgoing type. Someone who needs help from a "kind" stranger to be able to have a good time. Just awful! This guy had made up his mind about gaming way before this report even started! So why bother sending him? Newsflash: Gaming, when done in moderation, isn't any different from going to a club or whatever. It's just another form of entertainment! It can be enjoyed alone or with friends. And going to a nightclub certainly isn't superior than an evening of gaming. It's just more socially acceptable at this time. Though I have no idea why. If I ever have kids, I'd much rather they play videogames than hang out in a place that gives them access to alcohol, drugs, hearing damage and probably an STD or two. This knucklehead didn't even try to experience/understand the world these kids live in, which is a damn shame considering why he was there in the first place. :/ They were ready to give his idea of a good time a shot... so why couldn't he do the same? Even if just for the sake of, oh I don't know... journalism maybe?
those who think clubbing is cool are knuckle heads that got conned, only one who gets the benefit this stupidilty is the owner of the club earning money
It may be hard for you to understand, but clubbing is social, more social than gaming. When you're gaming, you talk to people, but it's different than real human interaction. Usually when gaming there is only one method of communication, and that's typing or talking on the microphone. Your mind is also focused only on the social interaction in the club that is taking place, while when gaming you're focused on the game, and talking comes second. In a club, you're talking with a real person or group of people, there is body language, eye contact and verbal communication, it's definitely more social. When I go clubbing, I usually dance, drink and talk with people. Talking can be hard in night clubs, but half of clubbing tends to be hanging out in the areas out the front of clubs, meeting people and talking. Some clubs also have quiet rooms to people can chat. Clubbing is fun, you dance, you meet new people, you meet girls, and have a good time. With the guy in the glasses, I think that he wanted to help him break out of his bubble a bit, you can look at him and tell he's not a very outgoing, social or confident person. And he enjoyed the club and had a good time anyway, so what does it matter? I'm a League of Legends player too, and I have to say, clubbing is more fun than gaming ever is. Dancing with a cute girl is more satisfying than getting a penta kill will ever be. Also what's even more fun than clubbing is a house party or a rave. Also neither one is superior to the other, it's all a matter of opinion and what you prefer. The point of this documentary was obviously to get an outsiders view on the gaming scene. If they sent in some guy that knew a lot about League and gaming, it would be like every other gaming documentary, and that's not what vice is going for.
Chris Merrick For you. Everything you said is more fun for you! Why "dancing with a cute girl"? I would rather MEET a cute girl somewhere where we can actually talk in peace. I would rather be in a bar, cafeteria or a tea place. I personally don't like clubs but go there anyways. My friends love it. I dance, I talk but Im not really having fun. Introverts are exhausted by this shit. But this is a world where only extroverts seem to exist so I get it.
Meh, the journalist made it seem like once the college friends went back to the PC bond, they wouldn't interactive with each other, so he decides to take them out to the club? Clubbing is not for everybody. Sometimes people prefer playing games or watching movies with their friends during a Saturday night than go clubbing.
The one kid had never even been to a club before so personally I think it's good he steps out of his comfort zone. Not very professional on the reporters part but he was probably a bit buzzed after their meal and wasn't thinking clearly.
There's nothing wrong with trying new things, but it seemed like he was thinking he was doing them a favour by bringing them to a club. Nothing like prying them away from the evil video games and exposing them to a loud, overcrowded building and excessive alcohol. Well done.
totally agree with you,. Yes it was quite rude to just play and ignore the guy who accompanied them, but its not like he didn´t know why they were going to that location. And draggin somebody into a club who doesn´t like clubs is just wrong. As wrong as draggin a hip hop fan to a metal concert and shouting at him "thats fun, what you are doing is shit" I also hate the usual clubs, They are crowded, noisy, you can´t really talk, the lighting is bad, the drinks are way overpriced and then there is the whole thing about "getting into a club" which I just despise. I mean its ok if a club has certains standards, like "no drunk people, no people who come in dirty stinking clothes" but the whole thing about "only the beautiful, the richand the powerful" is just bad. I was also wandering how these guys got into the club, I guess because vice and the camera was with them.
eberbacher007 I wouldn't say they were being rude. The documentary is about THEIR culture and they were just doing what they do. If anything, the journalist should have jumped in and participated to immerse himself into their culture instead of trying to get them into his.
Hamilton is great for the subjects he talks about... He is educated and very intelligent. I don't know why you would say that he is worse than the host for this episode.
Lol at five minutes in the guy is complaining that they were having fun and then stopped to play games. IMO it's the exact same thing as hanging out with guys who like to drive cars on a track, enjoying dinner with them, and then complaining "oh I guess we're done having fun because they all just went out to race, and I don't have a car." Homie what did you think a group of gamer/racing friends were going to do?
I used to play games tones and I didn't feel like I was really living but now I'm going out more with my mates and honestly it's much more memorable and enjoyable than sitting at home alone with a device that doesn't have a personality or feelings and quite frankly I haven't met any new friends via gaming, but I have met lots of nice people through just going real places.
The host doesn't understand what gaming is all about.. he has limited perception. . Clubbin is not everyone's cup of tea.. different ppl hv different ways of chilling
nO WAY these people are playing so many games instead of wholesome, character-building activities??? like clubbing and getting drunk?? god forbid they spend their time doing what they enjoy!! i hate it when people have different opinions!!!
Not really, having real life interactions is better then sitting and wasting your life in front of a screen. You could use your point for something else, but using that to defend 15 hours on a screen is so stupid.
Eason Chen Who genuinely defends 8+ hours of gaming per day. As long as you are a productive member of society with a job etc and you want to engage in legal, recreational activities I fail to see the problem. "Wasting your life" is just a subjective statement.
Playing games is far more social, intellectual stimulating, safer, productive and decent than going out, consuming poison, listen to loud immoral music that ruins your ears and moral, and spreading disease or getting diseases.
i´m a gamer myself, but i play not every day and mostly not for more than 3 Hours, but tell me again, why do you tink it´s FAR more social to play games than meeting real people and talking face to face to them ??
This has to be the most wimpy comment I've ever read. Enjoy staying at home in your room playing video games with virtual people while I go out to party and make new friends. How in the world is gaming more social? You're delusional fam
Yeah, I was addicted to League for a while, not because of the game play but due to all the friends and other people that constantly invited me to play. It just felt like I belonged somewhere. Honestly was one of the most difficult games for me to quit.
I like this presenter :P - great mix of a lack of understanding, slightly unfair judgements, and bitterness. SOunds like I'm taking the piss, but I genuinely find it endearing.
Correcting people can be a addiction. I see it alot. Its like they need deeper meaning or attention to feel smarter or higher than others. When all it does is make the victim want to correct you. Here we see a failed correction following a angry response. The failed responder has a life because he dont waste time attacking people over small problems. The 2nd response we can tell something is bugging this guy. He tries to give the 1st response a problem. This is something we need to stop. Alimber rios is smart because he or she has nothing to prove while you bitch about it and waste time. Alimbers in a goddamn ferrari and your on the sidewalk blaming dogs for shoeshit. I wish you self centered fucks would go fight. Instead of being a blaming bitch.
Quitting excessive gaming and starting dating, and going out with my friends seriously turned my life around. I've never been happier! I still play games sometimes but quite rarely.
I think excess of everything is bad. We have to keep a balance between work, study, sports, e-gaming etc. After all health (both physical and mental) is priceless.
Osvaldo Tello you’ve never heard of it it’s like an exclamation of shock or something I could’ve said OH MH GOD you’re beautiful or Jesus Christ you look amazing idk I and millions of other people say it all the time
Osvaldo Tello it has nothing to do with my religion although I am Christian.. is that sarcasm or what?? Because a lot of atheists and agnostics say OH MY GOD on a daily basis and I know that because I’m friends with a lot and some of my favorite artist ( such as Tyler the creator) are.
These guys invite you out to party than you get salty when they take you to something that they wanted to go to. And instead of joining in you pull them out and bring to something they don't like and have said they don't like. Remind me not to make friends with Vice guys, I like me some night club partying but some people like internet cafes same shit. We all have our *vices*. A PC Bang and a Nightclub are no better or worse than each other grow up.
I like how he kept saying "we were having fun up until they started gaming" and "we were having awesome conversation" YOU were having a good time and having good conversation, THEY are STILL conversing with each other and having a good time, instead of talking down on the subject matter and claiming that clubbing is more sociable or a more healthier version of having fun than gaming just look at it objectively and don't put how much fun YOU would rather have.
This is a horrible premise for a documentary. It assumes that gaming like these people do is bad, but clearly they are being sociable and have no problem going out to a club either. If the documentary presented the good side of esports, they would know the exhilaration of winning and defeating their opponent, they would know the friendships and rivalries that occur, and so much more. Instead the focus is on how it's so bad to spend a night out gaming instead of clubbing lol
its called an outside perspective. many documentaries use the technique of having it presented by someone who acts as if they don't know about the subject. He actually does know but he's acting as surrogate for the viewer.
The reporter is a jerk. Hearing what went Promise went through is horrible. Nobody should have to go through that. I sympathize for him. Besides everything else, Promise is kinda cute😍 Just had to put that out there.
"we were having fun a second ago" they still are having fun. You are the one who doesn't like gaming, so is standing about like a lemon rather than joining in. I disliked this judgemental documentary, the host is only concerned with himself & is not even interested in the subject matter he is studying. People have different hobbies, I wanted to learn more about the gaming community in Korea not the hosts close minded thoughts & feelings.
Im not a gamer but I still understand the appeal. I hate this modern notion that worships extroverts and convention. How can you assume they're not having fun together just because its not your idea of fun? gosh
I find this perspective pretty cool. If a person comes home from work and wants to game for 1-4 hours or so while maintaining a healthy level of fitness I don't understand the hate that comes their way. Western culture does very much so favor towards the extroverted side of things.
A lot of FPS games like cod are banned in Korea and Japan and other eastern countries/continents, mostly mixed with mmoba’s being primarily dominantly Asian and Korean
I wish the presenter/host wasn't so biased with his presentation. I think it was rude and condescending for him to suggest that their idea of relaxing wasn't "right". You could easily do the same thing with someone who was hoping to become a professional in any skill based arena (basketball, football, baseball, etc.). Yes gaming isn't as popular and doesn't require a physical skill per se, but it's not like someone can just sit down and be excellent at the games.
He's jealous because he has a hard time getting into it or that he doesn't have friends like those. I would love to have friends like that group had, he was [insert Twitch salt emoticon here].
its called an outside perspective. many documentaries use the technique of having it presented by someone who acts as if they don't know about the subject. He actually does know but he's acting as surrogate for the viewer.
The guy runing one of the PC bongs literally tells the host that 'Asking youngsters that are deep into the gaming culture to stop playing games is very disrespectful.' What does he do? Make fun of them and then brings them into a nightclub not bothering with learning their names. Good one VICE
i stopped gaming when i was 16 years old. i was fine at first but i started to have withdrawal systems. I felt giddy at times and even un-content with myself. Felt like i was wasting, had difficulty staying awake even when i slept a full 7-9 hours of sleep. So i turned to drugs, thanks to drugs i am no longer addicted gaming. Thank you drugs for turning my life around

I’m sure a lot of my gamers can relate, but I’ve had a lot more fun gaming till 4 in the morning with my friends on Discord then going to the bar and wasting money on alcohol and drugs. The fact that this host is trying to control the way these people have fun is so close minded that it hurts.
Its true you can have nice times playing games on-line with your friends..
Discord is trash though. Just play on LIVE, why tf you need adiscord this and discord that, overhyped junk.

Victor Menjivar afgahanmuzic
Instead of understanding esports he wanted them to go to a club as if that's any better. Rather spend my money and time gaming than getting wasted all the time
It's awkward that he doesn't play with them. It's like if a gamer made a documentary about going to a club and he just sat there watching while everyone else had fun.
Or someone who has at least have experience with gaming
Yeah I don't get this at all. The 'reporter' asks these people to appear on a film about e-sports and then proceeds to get pissed off that they're playing games and drags them out to a club. Wanker.
S Steel exactly
This is exactly how NOT to do a documentary. The host was unprofessional, ignorant on the topic and completely lost in himself.
he was clearly not interested.
Vice has lost credibility
U got me breath dude

stinky air, loud ass music, seizure inducing lights and you can't even talk to other people. Yea clubbing is fun...

Tuc :]
To be fair, nobody probably wanted him on their team. Kinda sad. Just be who you are. At least gaming community is more supportive of each other. The "clubbing" community probably as way more deaths due to substance abuse or depression.
Tuc exactly. I hope that guy loses his job
Yes!

Why does he keep talking about clubbing. It’s apparently a shock that many people don’t like dance clubs.
doomtomb3 yeah because if you don’t like clubbing you’re a fucking puss
Haha gaming is way better than clubbing in general- but especially in south Korea where you aren't likely to succeed from clubbing- as opposed to gaming which will give most of those kids their best chance at climbing the financial ladder.
Because he thinks he's cool.
Because his selfish ass wanted to go clubbing and continue getting drunk. Trust me, I could tell by the way he said “there’s not even any alcohol here” where it was going.

Shhhhh, vice is too edgy to give a shit. They'll take shrooms and join ISIS if it means more attention.
You took the words right out of my mouth
What an incredibly insincere and judgemental look at esports... Imagine if a reporter went to a soccer camp and said "we were having fun and becoming friends, but now all they want to do is play soccer. So I'm just gonna stand back here and wait for them to be done, and maybe we can be friends again."
I know Vice is stupid at times, but come on... This is beyond dumb. You went there with an agenda and a preformed notion of what you wanted to say, and went full-on confirmation bias. Open-minded my ass.
hiTo1337 I swear 😂😂 fuck this reporter!!!

Playing 2-4 hours a day and having fun with your friends isn't bad and there is not "dark side" to it. However doing what these fools are doing, literally wasting the best gift of life, youth. Playing 12 hours a day, sitting in one place, with barely any excercise is horrible and the reporter did a great job showing that!

nah esports really is a big meme
he seems to be only concerned with clubbing... something i've noticed is often associated with the lowest common denominator mindless masses... not to say everyone who goes clubbing is brainless but there's a majority of them out there that do
I used to enjoy clubbing but you guys are right: Most people who go there are mindless. If you have deeper feelings and thoughts like I do the only way to relate to clubbers is to get really high and/or drunk and THEN start talking to them -- to get to their level mentally (and even then it's a careful balance because you might say or do something you'll regret).
gaming is not a sport never will be
The dictionary definition of sport disagrees, btw Chess is also a sport
That's why it's an eSports, not sports :^)
Faissal Bensefia well, technically it's defined as a physical activity. That being said, I don't agree with the OP and it could be argued that keystrokes and mouse clicks are physical activities.
To the OP, just because you don't like or understand something doesn't make it any less legitimate.

I like the subject matter but I think the host/presenter was a poor choice...
He comes off as almost mocking the culture - which for obvious reasons is easy - but if the intention was to an be an explorative exposé then maybe it would have been better to leave bias at the door.
Will Danner Yeah I get your point.
I felt the same way. As a gamer this is just disrespectful to me. I wish they would've had someone else explore the gaming culture
I would not be surprised if VICE does this for a reason. Although all of the VICE reporters seem to be clueless every where they go, the only place they would feel comfortable in would be the inside of a Starbucks or at and Apple store.

not exactly you've just got to have friends also playing for like 14 hours a day non stop can seriously damage your eye sight

I don't like at all how he turned a monotheistic scripture into some pagan ("gods") one... clueless :/
this feels like a weird propaganda piece against gaming, how the reporter acts, how they change the music at the club and make the video more fun and upbeat, and they treat individuals who play video games like they can't interact socially and aren't "really" having fun
You could say that every single hobby on the planet is someone attempting to "escape reality." How does escaping reality automatically mean the person isn't having fun?

why did he drag the guys into a night club? i don't get it. like this is somehow the way you're supposed to live? is going clubbing really better / more acknowledgeable than hanging out playing games together?
what's ironic is that held in comparison with the internet café there's something equally as listless and detached about the people hopping up and down on a typical clubbing dance floor.
At least there are no russians in the club.

TheDarkBurna I agree.
TheDarkBurna What is there to life? Enlighten me.
Zphyra Ryuu Socializing and contributing to society are the essence in my opinion. And gaming 12 hours a day counteracts this,
TheDarkBurna So basically, you're saying you shouldn't do what you want to do, insted you should do whats best for society. Why?
Mike .Silas he’s an asshole.
@@NotAnotherKuromi that's completely normal. Clubs are the worse way to meet friends or long term relationships

Going to a club doesn't necessarily mean you'll get laid. In America, at least, most females are there to talk to and dance with each other while the guys stand around watching. That's what I saw in California, anyway, 99% of the time. And in the bars? Almost everyone in there is male.

Maximilian Neumann Exactly. You don't need alcohol to have fun. Was he drunk his entire childhood!!? 😂
Maximilian Neumann that's not what he meant and you know it, stop acting the big time Charlie
SevenWilly
Yes, it really does.
SevenWilly
Drinking and partying everyday will not kill you, unless you straight up an alcoholic.
*****
girls. that's pretty much it.

Anything sounds like an awful time when you describe it poorly.
many people are worried about be on a pro in competitive gaming that just having fun with the game

I play Dota-2 at 04.00 - 08.00 AM almost every day at home. Not because I was addicted, but I always woke up too early and often there was no activity to do. I went to college at 10:30 AM until the afternoon.
For me, game = having fun.
wow vice should really fire some employes
+Alban Veshti yeah wtf was this about, it was so unfair and one sided. What kind of news is fair or one sided lol.
***** I know, sad but true. Nonetheless, Vice reporters are known to be scummy.
*all employees and employers
They were ready to give his idea of a good time a shot... so why couldn't he do the same?
I think you missed the entire point....
This is exactly what I thought when I saw the "documentary"
Also Chris Merrick you contradicted yourself.
Vice is like CNN, old people making stuff for old people. They don't even understand the gaming culture.
"Then the music started vibrating my whole body as if it was attacking me" LMAOOOOOOOOO
I felt like he was explaining someone's first time experience at a metal concert lol
Host was terrible choice
Meh, the journalist made it seem like once the college friends went back to the PC bond, they wouldn't interactive with each other, so he decides to take them out to the club? Clubbing is not for everybody. Sometimes people prefer playing games or watching movies with their friends during a Saturday night than go clubbing.
The one kid had never even been to a club before so personally I think it's good he steps out of his comfort zone. Not very professional on the reporters part but he was probably a bit buzzed after their meal and wasn't thinking clearly.
He did exactly what the old man they featured said about disrespect to people who game.
As wrong as draggin a hip hop fan to a metal concert and shouting at him "thats fun, what you are doing is shit"
I also hate the usual clubs,
They are crowded, noisy, you can´t really talk, the lighting is bad, the drinks are way overpriced and then there is the whole thing about "getting into a club" which I just despise.
I mean its ok if a club has certains standards, like "no drunk people, no people who come in dirty stinking clothes"
but the whole thing about "only the beautiful, the richand the powerful" is just bad.
I guess to be a reporter for Vice, you just have to be the worst possible candidate for the job. This guy is almost as bad as Hamilton...
Hamilton is great for the subjects he talks about... He is educated and very intelligent. I don't know why you would say that he is worse than the host for this episode.
If you said Hamilton is bad because of his deep fry voice or skinny vampire looks then i guess you’re an asshole stereotypical kind of guy
Hamilton is very good and he actually tries the drugs he talks about.
And vice is amazing asshole don't judge the whole company by one guy
always cite your sources before you let something upset you fellas
What I see is group of friends enjoying themselves while keeping away from drugs, alcohol abuse and bad company.
I hope the reporter finds a way to cope with himself, what a rude dude.
Doran's Blade ---> 3% Lifesteal
The Bloodthirster ---> 20% Lifesteal
League of Legends ---> 100% Lifesteal
In my house, a PC bong means something completely different
Ha ha, I was hanging out for that comment!!! Bong, bang, sounds better than playing games!!!
Teenagers should spend their time out clubbing instead? Lol
Either sitting in a chair getting fat all day not talking to people unless it's over a mic or dancing meeting new people
+Revanor Wtf kinda bias statement is that? God people are getting stupider and shittier everyday.
+Nospoon53189 that's my experience of gaming. and it's not biased because I have played games for thousands of hours on my pc
+DcDane thats the western definition of "cool activity"
jesus christ lmao, VICE just fire this reporter
I don't get why people go clubbing. Lol
Me neither since I quit drugs hahahaha
To dance, find a one night stand, to drink and be around other people, any of those things, not hard to comprehend really
Same reason you, I guess, why you are playing games. To have fun and do the stuff you like. Didn't you learn anything from the video? Lol..
@@drdre2641 so you assume people who don't party are playing games? How about they're busy doing business?
Whut? Where did I assume that? You don't get why people go clubbing, I explained it.
You're one of a kind, don't you? Have you seen anyone clubbing everyday for 15 hours like these lifeless gamers do?
If you think clubbing and getting drunk are character building activities, you need to think again.
Kim Jong Trump I gave you a like cause of your pic😂🤣😎🙌🏽
i´m a gamer myself, but i play not every day and mostly not for more than 3 Hours, but tell me again, why do you tink it´s FAR more social to play games than meeting real people and talking face to face to them ??
Not really... Faming and clubbing is the same thing

Korea has the best and latest online games for free! While other countries are fucking stuck with crap like Fortnite.
"Korea has the best and latest online games for free!" which ones ? and how is it free ? they don't pay for original games ?
PanterA most mmorpg in korea are f2p but are very grindy and most are p2w
But league came out like 2009 and and 2011 in Korea...
Meh... Video Games, Waste of time, A Girlfriend is a better solution to spare the time
Yeah, I was addicted to League for a while, not because of the game play but due to all the friends and other people that constantly invited me to play. It just felt like I belonged somewhere. Honestly was one of the most difficult games for me to quit.
I like this presenter :P - great mix of a lack of understanding, slightly unfair judgements, and bitterness. SOunds like I'm taking the piss, but I genuinely find it endearing.
Interesting. You find "it" or him endearing? lol
Red Velvet's grammar was correct. You're smug idiot. Both "it" and "him" are correct in this context.
Instead of being a blaming bitch.
clubbing and too much gaming are both pretty bad for one's health and lifestyle
Quitting excessive gaming and starting dating, and going out with my friends seriously turned my life around. I've never been happier! I still play games sometimes but quite rarely.
I think excess of everything is bad. We have to keep a balance between work, study, sports, e-gaming etc. After all health (both physical and mental) is priceless.

Reporter should of took interest like Conan did on his show & played the games.
I like how he kept saying "we were having fun up until they started gaming" and "we were having awesome conversation"
YOU were having a good time and having good conversation, THEY are STILL conversing with each other and having a good time, instead of talking down on the subject matter and claiming that clubbing is more sociable or a more healthier version of having fun than gaming just look at it objectively and don't put how much fun YOU would rather have.
Everybody have Ad Block when you watch this so they don't get money.
you're still clicking on their videos tho lol
"They don't even serve alcohol here" 😆
This is a horrible premise for a documentary.
They do show the good side watch the first parts of the documentary this is near the end
+Edwin Vargas Nah the premise is great its just above you so you don't understand it.
He's so pissed, chill out let them play?!

How can you assume they're not having fun together just because its not your idea of fun? gosh
Thank god at least one non gamer isn't "fat, antisocial idiot." even though you can make more friends online.
I find this perspective pretty cool. If a person comes home from work and wants to game for 1-4 hours or so while maintaining a healthy level of fitness I don't understand the hate that comes their way. Western culture does very much so favor towards the extroverted side of things.
