I thought that was so thorough and wonderful I can’t wait to try some more serum‘s but I am really happy you reminded me to get up and do my nighttime routine and I love your videos. I can’t wait to explore more of the ordinary products right now I’m doing well just the Buffay, the caffeine serum and the moisturizing factors ✌️

Just use the products that really target your skin concerns, and the simpler you can keep it, the better :)
For how long have you been using those products? How is it going so far?

    Hello Melissa
    I wanted to ask
    In night
    Hyaluronic acid then niacinamide
Can I apply niacinamide right after I apply hyaluronic acid without giving hyaluronic a chance to dry
    In morning
    Bha then hyaluronic
Can I apply hyaluronic right after I apply bha without letting bha dry
Cause i Idont usually wait and directly apply the next acid so that it's applied on damp skin

    • @MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet

      Hey! :)
Damp skin does not mean that there is still water or serum on the skin surface...this can actually cause more problems (like skincare pilling or sensitivity or even just give you an uncomfortable feeling)...
      Damp Skin refers to:
After washing your face, use a towel and pat your skin dry to remove the remaining water drops from the skin surface. Your skin will remain damp for +/- 30min.
Therefore, give your skin a moment to absorb each skincare product before moving on to the next step.

    Day 2 PM : tretinoin

Hi I’m a beginner to skin care routine (35yrs) ..I have never used any actives …may I know if I can use copper peptide serum or should go with multi peptide for few months before upgrading to copper peptide..

      @MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

echnically, it doesn't matter, as it depends on your personal skin tolerance. You can use the one with copper peptides right away. However, these peptides are a bit controversial, meaning you will likely get the same results with the regular multi-peptide serum for a much cheaper price. So, from that perspective, it's the better choice. ;)
The layering would go like this:
      Cleanser
      Snail mucin
      Multi-peptide serum

Do I need to take away a a hydrator if I want to push the Copper Peptides into a routine?

As I have already told you, in the morning I use vitamine C 30% in silicone every day and in the evening granactive retinol 2% or glycolic acid. @MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Κατερίνα,
Yes, maybe my explanation wasn't that good last time.
It is recommended not to use Buffet and Buffet Copper Peptides (or generally The Ordinary Peptides) with highly acidic products as the pH may be too low, making the peptides ineffective or less effective. But I think it isn't an issue as long as you do not use a lot of product or "mix" it.
Still, if you want to be safe, it is best not to use it together.
So as explained in the video, for you, it would be best to alternate daily.
      Monday Granactive Retinoid
      Tuesday Buffet Copper Peptides
      Wednesday Granactive Retinoid
      etc.
Using the retinol/retinoid together with Buffet may "conflict" as both "tell" your skin cells to rebuild and become healthy. There is no research for this. So nobody really tested it. I did a little "study" on myself, and it was an issue, and I got terrible breakouts when combining these products 😕

Yes, surprisingly, The Ordinary Retinol 1% isn't even that strong compared to other formulations such as Paula's Choice 1%; there, it is essential not to do this as otherwise, you will burn your skin.
Maybe the oil itself reduces the efficacy, or I think that many serums already lost some of their effectiveness when not stored correctly, so it is not the full strength people are getting. Because I sometimes get comments where people say they bought a new bottle, and now they suddenly experience irritation. But not sure; it depends on so many factors, and if it works for you no need to change anything. It is just that I want to make people aware of it as I also do not know who is watching my videos 😉

Oh I know, you are the most detailed skincare channel I've ever seen and I love you for that. I think I made my original comment bc I was shocked that mixing the buffet & retinol could irritate the skin bc I have sensitive skin and started the using both together a month ago or so and my skin peeled and purged less than when I adjusted to the retinol 0.2% & 0.5%. The Ordinary website says the regular Buffet and Retinol can be used together, so when i saw this video i thought "what?!" I apply the Buffet on a damp face bc no matter how many drops I use it remains sticky. So maybe I'm reducing the efficiency with the water, and therefore it's not increasing irritation when used with retinol?
I'm sorry I didn't mean to sound arrogant in my first comment.

    • @MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet
      @MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@conniescrustycharredcooter2476 Yes, but what does it even mean if the skin is sensitive? You could be sensitive to some ingredients and others you tolerate well, so from that perspective, it is just random unless you have broken skin, etc.
The Ordinary only points out the conflicts; technically, they do not have any. So no cross-reactivity happens. However, when reading some articles online, nobody seemed to have tested it, and the efficacy of the copper peptides is even another thing to consider, which we really do not know.
Not many people apply skincare products to dry skin; if you think about it, you always apply to damp skin after you have washed your face.
So many people tend to "dilute" it with the remaining water on the skin surface because they think that this is something you should do. (as I also believed in the beginning, but I never did that at home, just because some "online" dermatologist talked about it, which I now question a lot) So when I dug deeper, I found that there is no real definition, so I thought, well, if my clothes or sponge are damp, I cannot see any water on it, so I thought that this must also be the case for the skin. (even though it does not work like that) And I realized that so many people have issues with pilling while using these water-based serums, so I looked deeper into this.
Now I think that the confusion here comes from the traditional moisturizers, which contain oils and other fatty substances to hide dehydration, so you wash the face. Then you apply such a substance on top immediately to keep it in the upper layer so that it does not evaporate. But these serums are already water-based and do not include these substances. So these humectants have already absorbed the water, which then "hopefully" stays in the upper layers of the skin (or even just on top). So I think you will only dilute it and even cause issues depending on the water quality at home.
Edit: But what cleanser do you use? Because sometimes that can be the issue too. So if you use an oil/balm or hydrating cleanser, it builds this layer on top, making it very difficult for the serums to absorb well. I think this wasn't their purpose for being used like that.

      Hello Melissa 🫣,
I can't really give you a good guide for this since it depends on your overall skin tolerance. But don't use them together, and it's probably better to alternate. Now, as a user of Adapalene, I can tell you that when I use an AHA (5-8%) more than twice a week, my skin becomes red and starts to break out.

      Hello Swati,
It is primarily the copper peptides where people seem to have issues, but since peptides (in general) also "communicate" with our skin, so does retinol; therefore, you may experience sensitivities, but I think it is not a big deal. But people tend to mix all kinds of stuff; therefore, I rerecorded some of these videos and deleted older ones so that when people recreate the routines, they are happy 🙂

hi melissa after watching lots of your video , and reading some of the comments i finally set up my skin care routine base on what is ok and not ok to mix
can you help me to check if i make it right
    AM
    1-cleanser
    2.CaffeineSolution 5% + EGCG
    3. Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5
    4. "Buffet" +Copper Peptides 1%
    5-personal moisturizer
    6. sunscreen
    PM
    1.cleanser
    2.CaffeineSolution 5% + EGCG
    3. Multi-Peptide +HA Serum
    4.retinoid
    5.moisturizer
i want to add Ascorbic Acid
8% + Alpha Arbutin 2% but i dunno where am or pm but is both contrast one of my serum

    • @MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet
      @MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Ofelia,
Yes, all correct. And if you want to add Ascorbic Acid and Alpha Arbutin, you have to swap it with one of the peptide serums since they conflict.
Also, Buffet + Copper Peptides has nearly an identical formulation as Multi-Peptide +HA Serum which was called Buffet before. However, it just has the added copper peptides, so in this case, Buffet Copper Peptides would be the better one to use.
So you can do it like this:
      AM
      1.Cleanser
      2.Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG
      3.Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5
      4."Buffet" +Copper Peptides 1%
5.(Optional) moisturizer (not necessarily needed because you are already using so many hydrating products)
      6. sunscreen
      PM
      1.Cleanser
      2.Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG
      3. Ascorbic Acid and Alpha Arbutin or Retinoid (Best to alternate)
      4. moisturizer (if needed, sometimes you don't need it, and the formulations are already soothing/hydrating enough)

Hey melissa, how are u doing!
Can you suggest me a routine cauz i can't trust anyone else 😐😅
, I want to lighten my skin and get rid of blackheads
I have these products now (
-Salicylic Acid 2% Anhydrous Solution The Ordinary.
    -lactic acid 10% the ordinary,
-Peeling solution AHA 30% + BHA 2% - THE ORDINARY,
    -Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% - THE ORDINARY
    )
    This is My routine now
    Day 1:
    Morning :
    Cerave salycilic acid cleanser
    Niacinamide
Almond sweet oil (i use it as moisturizer ,is it good?)
    Night:
    Cerave salycilic acid cleanser
Salicylic Acid 2% Anhydrous Solution The Ordinary.
    Day2 :
    Morning:
    Cerave salycilic acid cleanser
    Niacinamide
    Almond sweet oil
    Night:
    Cerave salycilic acid cleanser
    Acnestop (it's like differine)
And i use the peeling solution once a week
(I don't use lactic acid cauz i don't know when should i use it 😅)
And today i bought a foundation that has vitamin c so i can't use niacinamide in the morning now , i was thinking to buy the ascrobic acid from the ordinary and use it in the morning ?
Can i use it? And in the night i use my salycilic acid ?
    .... I've combination skin 😁

    • @MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet
      @MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello JiJi,
Yes, the trust issue is also something I have since most of them are connected in some way or another, which is very concerning.
So first of all, for Blackheads, use a tool to extract them. That is the best way to get rid of them, and then you can use Salicylic Acid so that it won't happen as much anymore; still, if you are prone to get them, then you will... 😕 So you constantly need to maintain it.
Now for the foundation, you can use it. Since it does not have Ascorbic Acid but a derivative, if you wait a bit in between, it shouldn't be an issue at all, and generally speaking, it is a very controversial topic!
My suggestion would be not to use an oil as that may not be the right product for your skin needs and accelerates the blackhead issues further. Use as many water-based products as possible.
      Day 1:
      Morning :
      Cerave salycilic acid cleanser
      Niacinamide
      The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors
Sunscreen (If exposed to the sun, as shown in the video, the best would be mineral; NIOD would be an option, but it is expensive, especially if you have a lot of sun exposure and generally for daily use)
      Night:
      CeraVe Foaming Cleanser
Salicylic Acid 2% Anhydrous Solution The Ordinary (Best would be The Ordinary Salicylic Acid Solution 2% in the water-based formulation)
      Day2 :
      Morning:
      Cerave salycilic acid cleanser
      Niacinamide
      The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors
Sunscreen (If exposed to the sun)
      Night:
      Cerave salycilic acid cleanser
      Acnestop (it's like differing)
The Ordinary Peeling Solution once a week
followed by The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors
You could alternate the SA solution with Lactic Acid. But not sure if that is needed, and it is primarily used for dry skin. SA is more so suitable for normal to oily.
