- Great video of Chester Zoo's baby with mother Sarikei hiding under a sack.
The Realm of the Red Ape at Chester Zoo has an indoor rain system to simulate the Bornean
Orangutan's natural habitat and to maintain the humidity. The Orangutans use the sacks to
shelter from the rain just as they would use large leaves in the wild.
Babies have an amazing built in instinct present from birth to hold on tight to their mother thick long chestnut coloured hair and this baby girl gives us a fantastic demonstration of that instinctive skill in this video as she holds on tight to mom underneath her as she looks for food during a scatter feed around the Chester Zoo indoor enclosure
Sarikei's son Tombol also makes a brief appearance in this video as he joins mom grazing on their snacks
This video is the latest in a fairly long series of videos featuring the baby orangutan at 1 month old recorded in October 2023
The adorable 1 month old baby is 40 year old Sarikei's 4th baby and is a wonderful ray of hope to the survival of these amazing rare critically endangered animals
The love Sarikei she has for her new baby is so apparent in this adorable animal video clip!
We have released many videos of this adorable baby girl are available to watch on this channel and more videos have been recorded of the baby at different progressive stages of her development over the last 4 months and will follow this series in order of recording date
Orangutan birth Tribute to Grandmother Martha
The Critically Endangered 4 week old baby Girl Bornean Orangutan was born at Chester Zoo to devoted mother Sarikei and Father Willie and is the newest addition to the Bornean Orangutan family at the famous zoo and a wonderful legacy for Grand Old Lady Martha who sadly passed away at the remarkable age of 59 on 16th January 2024
In this video we get adorable close up animal footage of the new 34 day old baby orangutan as of January 2024 the time of uploading this video, the gender of the baby has been officially announced by the zoo as a girl but a name for the precious baby is yet to be announced
Chester Zoo Baby Orangutans
Birth of critically endangered orangutan at Chester Zoo
Chester Zoo is has a very successful record of Orangutan births at the zoo and most of the Orangutan Mothers are able to rear their own young without the assistance of zoo staff, this is largely due to the expert care and facilities the World Class Zoo provides for the animals.
The current animal population have had valuable experience with babies and have observed relatives caring for young, using this learning and experience to enable them to rear their own offspring
Critically Endangered Orangutans
Bornean Orangutans have been considered critically endangered since 2016 with an only an estimated 100,000 left in the wild. They are seriously in danger of extinction which makes the birth of this new baby orangutan very special indeed

Most orangutan moms are so chill as mothers compared to other primates and humans. I mean, think of the patience it would take to have an infant pulling and crawling all over you 24/7, poking you in the eyes and mouth, pulling your hair and skin, etc. And the fact with orangutans, the moms are the sole care providers of their infants with no assistance from others in a troop like chimpanzees, bonobos, and gorillas since orangutans are primarily solitary in the wild. Male orangutans can be very brutal towards female orangutans when they want to mate and will sometimes even harm the young if they come in the way. Female mother orangutans have my utmost respect and admiration.
Mom is so sweet looking. She appears to have a heart of gold. She looks so tired yet has so much patience. 🦧❤
I love Orangutans, lol that mama is very patient and chill with her baby
This little girl is a firecracker❣️ She’s discovered independent motion and she’s not stopping for anybody! 😂❤
Comfy and cozy under the blanket. A precious baby and mama ❤❤
This just too cute ❤
For yrs too come😊 1:22 These primates are so caring and what a privilege too watch how gentle!
What a precious babe
Thanks Jonas, glad you enjoyed the video. Keep well. 🥰
Great video ❤
I thought mama was holding the baby then realized the one was under the blanket! 😂😂 How cute! 🥰
Thanks as always Denise. 🥰
“MOM, LET ME UNDER THERE SO I CAN GO TO MILK BAR”😂🦧🦧🦧🥰🥰🥰
Wiggly baby! 😆 Mom is hoping she'll take a nap! It was really adorable when the baby pulled herself into her mom's arms. Curiosity abound!
They say the babies cling and hold on to their moms 24/7 for the first four months, that is one energetic baby lol
What a sweet video,, mum was like no sweetie keep it over your head it’s better ❤❤❤❤
Mom looks BEAT. That is one Energetic baby!!! ❤
She is a bundle of energy for sure! 🦧🧡
Mother Nature can be a beautiful thing. Love & Patience ❤❤❤
It really is!
Que lindos!
Melting! I think Grandma Martha helped with the delivery?
Мама невозмутимо терпит всё от ребёночка, такая прелесть
Спасибо большое за просмотр, она действительно спокойная мать. 🥰
Чудесная малышка похожа на одуванчик ❤😊
These Orangutan moms are so loving and patient 😊
Dandelion hair! I love that!
Great video. Does this sweet baby girl have a name?
Ребенок очаровательный особенно прическа
She’s like I found you mom❤
So adorable. The contrast between this 1 month old (so agile, she must be ahead to of schedule) and Jarang at Blackpool :(
So true! And so heartbreaking. 😢
verdaderamente un travieso
😍😍😍😍
It's funny how they like their "bankies"!
Just like we like ours they are 98% closes to a human
In the rainforest, I have seen in videos that they cover their heads with large leaves to keep out the sun or rain. In zoos, I think they do it to avoid seeing the humans who stare at them all day long.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
i feel bad for these creatures i wish theyre not going extinct 😭
Why does her chest area seem so off kilter?
Ok. Seeing this one month old baby and then the ankle holding baby, I def am concerned at the letters well-being. They seem to be the same size.
You have good reason to be concerned about Jarang. It's a sad situation and no one can get much answers. The Blackpool zoo says he is developing normally but anyone with eyes can see the poor baby and momma are struggling.
The mother looks I'll and the babies look too small
@user-eg2yu2vz7d this is not Jarang and his mother. This mother knows how to take care of her babies. Jarang looks like a newborn yet is eight months old. Please look for Jinnga and Jarang.
None of us truly knows what is going on with Jingga and Jarang. Everyone loves to blame Jingga for being a bad mother and inexperienced when the issue could entirely be that Jarang has something medically wrong with him, and Jingga is doing the best that she can. And depending on what is wrong, might be the reason we don't hear of Blackpool Zoo intervening. It's a sad situation, but Blackpool Zoo, while they don't answer inquiries, is licensed and well-trained in orangutans. I'm sure they know better of what's going on than us viewers of short clips of videos.
@@MegUSN52Blackpool Zoo is owned by Parquet Reunids which is an international entertainment operator based in Madrid, Spain.
The group operates over 60 parks in about dozen countries. Parques Reunidos operates theme and amusement parks, zoos, water parks, family entertainment centers, and cable cars.
With this in mind I’m not so sure that Blackpool’s priority is the well-being of the animals in their care.
Mom looks like she is so over parenting
Probably just tired
She is so wanting a nap, haven’t we all been there when we have had a young baby? I know I’ve been; that incessant tiredness and need for a sleep. I imagine all human or orangutan mothers feel the same. I didn’t know that orangutans parented alone, well they get my full respect!
