I am not that tech savvy and would really appreciate information on how to confidently update my device to make it more capable.
You can't brick your device with Onion OS : we don't modify the firmware. There's not specific guide for the MM because, except for the network features, it is exactly the same as a MM+.
@@SchmurtzAlex i'm sure it was my fault, im not blaming the os. i followed retrogamecorp's video guide to install 4.2 beta which worked, then after some time i went along with the video again to udpate to the rs version and my device no longer went past the boot logo screen. so not a total brick i guess. i deleted everything on my card, installed all of the original files that came with the device, reinstalled the beta version and it worked again. perhaps i should have tried installing the rs version when i wiped my card rather than the beta, but i didnt think of that at the time cause i had a mini freak out. im sure there are resources on the wiki to cover all of this but like i said im not very tech savvy and havent been motivated or confident enough to figure it out and a video guide for the miyoo mini would be a major help

That pico 8 functionality seems cool, is that whole set up unique to this device or can pico 8 function like that on others? Pretty neat for the price either way
Any of the custom firmwares on the more powerful Linux based devices can run Pico-8 natively (via AmberELEC, JELOS, or ArkOS), but Android devices and the RG35XX cannot, unfortunately. It’s amazing we have it on the Miyoo Mini devices!
hey russ - big fan of the channel. finally said ‘yeah man, I wanna do it’ after continuously digesting the reviews of this little guy for the past year. it arrived this week and its awesome. updated the os and customized accordingly, only issue is I’m unable to change the boot screen with the built in app; honestly one of the big reasons I purchased. did some light digging and other v4 users are experiencing the same thing (supposedly the boot screen app is not compatible with v4 firmware at the moment but I’m unsure.) is there anything I can do to fix this/am I missing something? or do you think v4 users might need to just cross their fingers and hope it’s fixed in a future update?
For now the new v4 firmware is not compatible with Easy Logotweak but I will update it when we will have more experience with the new v4 firmware which is fixing the new v4 resolution.
I had a ambernic with garlic os. But the screen broke. So I bought the miyoo mini plus. And I definitely made a mistake going with ambernic original. The HDMI and dual SD novelty wears off quick. I do like the Dpad a little better on the ambernic since it had a better center pivot . But the software and specially with the wifi do scrape art and now pico-8 it's Soo much beter on mini plus. Also I went for the grey gb look on both of them the mini plus it does not look right it has a brown tint. Ambernic did that better. But just go for an other colors.
Been trying to get the Pico- 8 stuff to work on my mm+ but for whatever reason whenever I try to connect to the wi-fi with the pico stuff all properly downloaded it just wont and when i try to reconnect it says that it just cant, when I took the pico files off and tried without them it booted up fine it was able to connect to wi fi no problem. Im not sure if im missing a step there?
Just wanted to give a heads up that there is a beta for moonlight on Miyo mini plus now. It's still got a bit to go but if this turns out well then we can virtually be playing every modern game on this little thing as well haha

So cool to see what's possible on this neat little device
I don't have any retro handhelds but have been thinking about an RGB30 because of how good it'd be for Pico-8. Now that it's possible to play Pico-8 on a Miyoo Mini Plus I'm confused as to what to buy again!
Russ will you make sort of like an update for Smartphone Gaming kind of thing.
your videos have convinced me to buy one of these!!
Man this almost makes me regret getting an RG35XX instead of waiting for a Miyoo restock. Onion OS dev team is CRAZY
Great video as always, love how much detailed each step is. Did you forget to link to the more detailed video on netplay?
Good catch, just added it. Here is a direct link: th-cam.com/video/Y_Qx720WxJ0/w-d-xo.html
Damn gonna have to get that official pico8 license... That looks way too good
Can’t wait for mine! I get it tomorrow
My son plays the mini plus all the time. It is a little too small for my hands. Just went and updated onion 👍
Jumped straight on this Pico 8 install, the fake08 is cool but had issues that made me not really dive in but this implementation is far far better 🤟
I just discovered you and your videos are incredibly educational.❤
If you get stuck on sending discover you can terminate the process by opening keyboard (x) holding control (tap b button on control on keyboard) and pressing c (select it with button a)
Only 1 question though: Do they make a wood grain? I'm so in love with that rg351v look it's given me prejudice towards better spec'd systems 🤣
No.
Ha, unfortunately there isn’t a wood grain version 😎
Perfect video. Please continue support miyoo mini plus. You’re the best.
thx Bro I've watched so many tutorials but only yours works
I was at a party last night where someone got dehydrated and passed out (no worries he's okay today) so I think he ignored Russ' good advice about getting a drink and a snack. Stay hydrated out there!
We got a "yeah man I wanna do it" praise be to the handheld gods 🙏
Just curious where did you get all the ds games from ?
That pico 8 functionality seems cool, is that whole set up unique to this device or can pico 8 function like that on others? Pretty neat for the price either way
Any of the custom firmwares on the more powerful Linux based devices can run Pico-8 natively (via AmberELEC, JELOS, or ArkOS), but Android devices and the RG35XX cannot, unfortunately. It’s amazing we have it on the Miyoo Mini devices!
A device like this might be the literal perfect way to play Pico 8. I’m drooling over the prospect of it!
@@RetroGameCorps indeed I didn’t know that it was already in Jelos and Arkos 😅
Can't wait for OnionOS 4.3 !!
Me too, it was weird there was V4.2.2 then the V4.2.3 came out less than a week i think.
This it THE handheld for Pico-8!
hey russ - big fan of the channel. finally said ‘yeah man, I wanna do it’ after continuously digesting the reviews of this little guy for the past year. it arrived this week and its awesome. updated the os and customized accordingly, only issue is I’m unable to change the boot screen with the built in app; honestly one of the big reasons I purchased. did some light digging and other v4 users are experiencing the same thing (supposedly the boot screen app is not compatible with v4 firmware at the moment but I’m unsure.) is there anything I can do to fix this/am I missing something? or do you think v4 users might need to just cross their fingers and hope it’s fixed in a future update?
For now the new v4 firmware is not compatible with Easy Logotweak but I will update it when we will have more experience with the new v4 firmware which is fixing the new v4 resolution.
@@SchmurtzAlex damn
Pico-8!!!!!!!!! Miyoo mini!!!!!!!
DS!!!!!!!!!!! I love all of these things!!!!!!!
I,m going to try this thanks allot for the awsome videos!
I think you sold me on this over the RG35!
Onion is the reason to go with MM+ over the Anbernic RG35XX
I feel like apart of Miyos success is the name itself.....its just easy to remember.
Russ did the recent update support arcade netplay now? I thought this is not supported by mame2003?
Just wanted to give a heads up that there is a beta for moonlight on Miyo mini plus now. It's still got a bit to go but if this turns out well then we can virtually be playing every modern game on this little thing as well haha
Boom! 2nd mini + device purchased
been holding from buying a mm+ but this sealed it just got one last night rewatching the video again😂
i would love to see some kind of screensaver function with video preview to try new games
Fascinating, can the MM+ run Death Rally? It's the very first remedy game, I thinks there is a version for Garlic
