Birds with guns is my favorite pico8 game. I played a lot of pico8 on my rgb30, and birds with guns is the only game I always come back to every now and then.
I love your little cousin story. My kids are like that with Game Boy games. I love that we can continue an appreciation for low spec’d, pixel art games with our youth
Last night I finally got around to buying PICO-8 for my RGSP and then spent several hours playing some really fun little games. Then, today I remembered seeing this video, so I came back here to favorite all the games on this list so I can have a go at them tonight after I get back from work. Thanks for the list of recommendations, and also for encouraging me to finally get around to trying PICO-8, it really is a great little console that never was :)
Wizard of Rule or whatever is a remake of an arcade game called Wizard Or Wor... the 7-11 by my grade school had it. Check it out in MAME... it's a classic. Thanks for the list TD I have my Jelos POW-KITTY!!! out right now and am expanding my Pico-8 list as I type this. Game on buddy, game on.
Pico8 has become on of my favorite "consoles" to play and whenever I see anyone getting interested in retro stuff I always recommend pico8 for new retro things. It's so fun and creative and interesting. On one of my fav games that is original, I really like "Pigments" as a puzzle game where you're fruit dodging saws and coloring the ground, collecting juice as you go. Simple but fun and replayable. Most of the games you mentioned were some of my faves too. Keep up the vids and support for pico8 :')
Glad to see high stakes love. Here's some of mine I love: -blood of vladula (for Halloween platformer fun) -wormwood (great puzzle game using a unique wood-eating worm concept) -void protocol (no spoilers, weird twist on shmups)
Yeah, I was sitting here thinking that porting Balatro to Pico-8 should be possible, perhaps even relatively easy compared to some of the stuff I've seen running on Pico-8. Good to know someone managed to work it out.
I've reported this comment for Harmful or Dangerous Acts, because this is the digital equivalent of introducing someone to heroin. Or, at least, I will get round to reporting this.... Later... Once I'm done playing Petrarca...
Great video! Damn i miss my Powkiddy RGB20SX, but returned it, had a lot of bugs with the latest update. So i bought the RG40xxV and that works great!. but still mis it and the stickers haha.
Cheers for a great vid, been meaning to have a proper play with Pico-8 for a while and seeing so many cool games sold it to me. And it's only £12 which is a bargain and happy to support the devs.
Booted combopool on my phone browser directly from your link below since it seemed pick up and play enough... Beaten at first try in like 10 minutes, and I am in love all over again with pico-8 ! Thanks!!!
Thanks a lot! Pico-8 looks like a ton of fun! Wizards Rule looks great and it is also a remake of an old arcade game called Wizard of Wor which is one of my 9 year old twins favourite games. Yeah, they play retro...don't look at me, I only showed them the Atari 2600 and some arcades and now they tell me "modern kids don't know what they are missing" 🤣
It is so wild to think how long Pico-8 has been chugging along. I remember downloading it way back when Celeste was a demo for it and before it became a full game. There has been so much added to this console since I last played around with it, thanks for the heads up dweeb! I'm going to dust off this old Buffalo USB Famicom controller and get to it.
If you like porklike, I’d recommend checking out Yggdrasil too (also a pico 8 game). It’s based on the former, but with a bunch of additional features, like unlockable color palettes, an endless mode, and a more convenient inventory system.
my favorite pico8 roguelike is charge! (not to be confused with "charge!", which is a viking-themed autorunner), second would probably be into ruins. i'd recommend mai-chan's sweet buns for puzzle game enthusiasts, and ufo swamp oddyssey is my go-to platformer (it's a metroidvania, too). and for those who look for recent releases, best 2024 pico8 game so far for me has been puzzles of the paladin.
When I first heard about Pico 8, I thought that it was a console that I missed out as a kid but it was never a thing back then. It looks like an advanced version of NES on some games.
I don't know why, but dungeon crawlers never cease to make me make the surprise Pikachu face, as if I've never seen them before lol. They're just so cool looking, and Trial of the Sorcerer/that Abyss game are no exceptions😭
My fave Pico-8 game is Pico de Pon. It's a demake of Panel de Pon, aka Tetris Attack on the SNES. It's hideously addictive and I am obsessed with the game!
Awesome video, as always. What is the Shoot-Them-Up at 11:13? I love Shoot-Them-Ups, and I love retro handhelds, but often they don't mix well because they're meant to be played on giant vertical screens. It's like they need to be made for smaller screens for them to work better on smaller screens 🤔 And I know about Invader, and I still suck at it.
Omg that Wizards Rule game is exactly the same as a game I used to play with my buddies on the astrocade, Wizard of Wor. Sweeeeeet, wut up Sam Spear. -Spain
Nice entryway into the system. I've been wanting to try Pico-8 for quite awhile now, but haven't had a clue where to start with it. I've tried a game or two here and there, but nothing that really grabbed me, so to have some recommendations should help.
Well pickle my monkeys paw! TechDweeb this is just what I wished for. Thanks for introducing me to the Pico 8. I have a collection of controllers and other hardware including a Bluetooth ZX Spectrum keyboard, and the 8bitdo arcade stick (made hama beads in the shape of space invaders to decorate it 😊)… so anyhoo I was looking for something new to play and these pico games are IDEAL for the retro style hardware. And my Gameboy themed Flipzizzle. Cheers oracle of the orange and black stripes 🎉
Wizard's Rule is basically a port of Wizard Of Wor, an old arcade game and one of my favourite Atari 800 games of all time that I believe is still as playable today as it was back then. I highly recommend you try out that version, purely for the lovely, growly Pokey music and sound fx.(Just don't forget to change your controller to Port 2 for some reason)
Hello TechDweeb, Thanks for this suggestion of games in which I was able to pick some interesting titles. I notice that you like the game Cab Ride. Do you know the saga "Densha de go"? These are train driving games half arcade half simulation that require the player to respect the signs, the speed limits and to stop at the station at the second. Many of these games were released in particular on PS1. Maybe they can interest you?
My red rgb30 is still my main pico 8 device. I have arkos on it instead of jellos though since jellos causes a lot of the known battery issues to be worse. Definitely gonna pick up either the rgb20sx or the rg cubexx as a replacement once it goes kaput.
Out of curiosity, what was that game with the road and the speedometer in the lower right corner that showed up early before you started listing games?
I'm 99% confident I'm going to grab the new Anbernic RG CubeXX (720x720 1:1 screen with linux), and this is the #1 reason I want to go back from android handhelds to linux... I don't need "high end" (ps2/gc/wii) emulation, I want to get back to the roots and I want native Pico8 (and Portmaster). Thanks for this video of recommendations!
It would be cool if the people from Pico-8 made their own official REAL pico-8 handheld. Not that it's necessary because I have all of the perfect handhelds for it.. but I wanna add that to my collection lol
We need an actual Pico-8 console complete with cartridges! I imagine it looking like a mini version of an amiga or Atari 8 bit computer. Cartridges should be adorably small, maybe made to look like a little floppy disk 💾
VinDeezNutz seems like a stand up guy.
Ha gotem!
So does his cousin VinDeezNutz_Alt lol
So sweet of your cousin to babysit you 🥰
Wizards rule is basically Wizard of wor. An arcade game from the early 80s
Indeed. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wizard_of_Wor
I used to love playing Wizard of Wor on my C64!
I was about to stumble in here with my "Ackshully", but you beat me to it, cloudrat.
Well done.
LoL add me to the "It's wizard of wor " list
Yes arcade game and was on the atari. I wonder if he was being sarcastic with his comments or really didn't know it was an arcade game
Birds with guns is my favorite pico8 game. I played a lot of pico8 on my rgb30, and birds with guns is the only game I always come back to every now and then.
I can hear the theme song now....
I love your little cousin story. My kids are like that with Game Boy games. I love that we can continue an appreciation for low spec’d, pixel art games with our youth

Noticed that too. It was also on the Bally console.
I love your pico-8 videos, almost alll these games are ones I haven’t tried 😁
These are so good! Combo Pool and Golf Sunday are my favs from this list, for sure, but Alpine Alpaca and Trial of the Sorceror are great too.
I just got this handheld in the mail from lit NXT. This video came at the perfect time. Thank you. I did load it with ArkOs however not Jelos.
Pico8 has become on of my favorite "consoles" to play and whenever I see anyone getting interested in retro stuff I always recommend pico8 for new retro things. It's so fun and creative and interesting.

What is an earring worm?
I'm a train conductor irl and having to run a train in my spare time sounds like a f... nightmare. Other that, great list.
thank you for your pico 8 recommendations. Consider making it a regular section thing. I know I would watch that.
The best Pico-8 game is Petrarca - it's a Balatro clone.
I actually play it more than Balatro because it's quicker and gets right to the point.
OMG will check that one out inmediately! xDD

Loved the last 2 videos - the new handheld and pico-8 coverage!! Yer getting big, ya dweeb!!
Great video! Damn i miss my Powkiddy RGB20SX, but returned it, had a lot of bugs with the latest update. So i bought the RG40xxV and that works great!. but still mis it and the stickers haha.
Awesome suggestions! I would love another pico8 video. My fav pico8 games are suika demake, cherrybomb and coffee maker iirc
Cheers for a great vid, been meaning to have a proper play with Pico-8 for a while and seeing so many cool games sold it to me. And it's only £12 which is a bargain and happy to support the devs.
Thank you so much. I haven’t played 90% of these. Can’t wait to try them. What a gem of a console.
Booted combopool on my phone browser directly from your link below since it seemed pick up and play enough... Beaten at first try in like 10 minutes, and I am in love all over again with pico-8 ! Thanks!!!

Combo Pool is certified videogame crack! Great video, Uncle Dweeb
i love the art in your work, good sir.

How the heck did someone get Pico8 to make something like cab ride? It looks incredible
Ikr super talented dev team
@@krayozmines Do teams make Pico-8 games, or just solo devs?
@@Lost_n_Found_1I guess it can be both. It's up for anyone to make their own games, so I think most are just solo devs though.
High Stakes is the most addictive game I have ever played
This is great and all, but I'm still waiting on your Top 10 Sega Pico list!
All of this is new info for me, and I had no idea there were so many cool looking games for the pico-8. Looking forward to more pico-8 videos.
AAAAhhh a TechDweeb video. It's like a warm hug.
Nice! Some new pico 8 games I didn't knew of that I'd love to try on my RGB30.
Omg, the like button lights up after you say that 2:04
Woah! That's so cool!
Subbed coming from your rgb30 video 🤝 (feeling a bit jealous, that you have a new favourite pico8 device though...)😢😊
If you like porklike, I’d recommend checking out Yggdrasil too (also a pico 8 game). It’s based on the former, but with a bunch of additional features, like unlockable color palettes, an endless mode, and a more convenient inventory system.
catacombs was one of my favorite games growing up, this pico8 game is a blast
High Stakes is really good, got a lot of friends addicted to it
10:25 ... because it is Wizard of Wor, basically 😄
First Pico-8 has quite the shoot 'em up fan base. Second favorite games: Poom and Pico World Race all the way.
I remember back in 1992 going to the Video store and renting my favorite PICO-8 cartridge, good times
my favorite pico8 roguelike is charge! (not to be confused with "charge!", which is a viking-themed autorunner), second would probably be into ruins.

Could you do a video about how to set up Pico-8 on this handheld? Which one should I buy? The version with maxed out SD cards?
Does Pico-8 come with the handheld?
@@DaisyHollowBooksit depends. It does oon certainl OS-es, like Crossmix.
It's like they need to be made for smaller screens for them to work better on smaller screens 🤔
And I know about Invader, and I still suck at it.
The game is Kalikan. 🎮
I did just find Ketsui Death Label for NDS. And it's a Cave Shoot-Them-Up that is specifically modified for a small screen. It rules.
Great list.. definitely need to try these Pico games out on my RG40XXV.
Omg that Wizards Rule game is exactly the same as a game I used to play with my buddies on the astrocade, Wizard of Wor. Sweeeeeet, wut up Sam Spear.

Still my favorite gaming channel!
Yaaay! You begin to follow your word, just like a samurai.

Speaking of videos you've promised, Minibook X video??? This is one of my favorite channels!
Pico8 is awesome! I think one of my favourite games is Praxxis Fighter, such a good shoot-em-up. :)
More videos like this. I have seen pico8 stuff but i was thinking it was like a super old console before the nes
great timing with the Cube-XX coming
Does the 20SX have battery issues like the RGB30??
Also this was one of my highly requested videos from you🎉
Sneaky Stealy is my absolute favourite Pico 8 game. So fun and addictive!
Well pickle my monkeys paw! TechDweeb this is just what I wished for.

I just found your channel as I was looking for how to build handheld.
Are you from Gotham? The yellow black stripes.
Wizards Rule is basically a port of Wizards of Wor. Played the crap out of that on C64 when I was little.
Wizards rule was a commodore 64 game, recently I’ve played it, it was funny to see it on pico 8.
Cool! Looks like something to check out! 😄
Hello TechDweeb,

Superb list. Four root beers outta five! 👍

For pick up and play i find nothing more addictive than birds and saws or BAS. Highly recommend it
Coffee Maker, Foozle Quest, picohot and of course Poom!
Cmon man. You're an artist, and a good dude! Gen AI tools just steal from artists like you. Bummed to see that on your channel.
Esse powkiddy é lindo
Great video, please show more! I love poom.
Very cool, thanks a lot! Can I please find a selection of cool games for Pico-8 that are similar to games for large consoles?
10:18 this is a pico 8 version of Wizzard of Wor Aracde game. I was play it lot on Commodore C64. Once I played it on the real arcade machine.
Does the Tech Dweeb really not know what Wizards of Wor is?
Maybe he is so old like myself that he saw it in the flesh as a child but completely forgot about it!
I've never heard of pico-8, I'm going to have to check it out. Now I just have to figure out where to play it on
Yes! Combo Pool made it on the list.
please Which Android handheld do you recommend I get to play Mobile legends, COD and Genshin Impact
That handles cooling with less overheating?🙏🏾
ah, just in time for the new perfect pico-8 machine, the RG Cube XX!
I'm enjoying Blood of Vladula Jr. You get to turn into bat. You should try it, or not.
Yes, more pico 8 games please!
Have you tried Tiny Tactics? I made that game in pico-8 last year and am very proud of it!
I will check it out!
Out of curiosity, what was that game with the road and the speedometer in the lower right corner that showed up early before you started listing games?
what was the last shmup title you were playing in this video?
Noice - love a bit of pico-8
mooore spooky games 🎃

yay! i love pico 8 games! right now i recal one super cute game :Pico Froggo: Hop Across the Seasons
Have anyone here tried Breakout Hero? One of my favs ^_^
we need someome to make a pico platformer based on the game at the end card of dweeb's video

Pizza Panda! Pizza Panda! Pizza Panda!
Omg catacomb abyss! Memory unlocked!!
Try Across the river. A game of transporting things across the river - not as straightforward as it seems.
Also found Wire it - connect the wires.
I’ve never heard of pico 8 but I’m about to find out
If you like combo pool and suika.. cosmic collapse is my favorite of these types. You can play it on pico-8!
There are many better handhelds but Pico 8 on an RGB30 is a thing of truest joy.
How did you get pico8 on fullscreen? I'm running latest rocknix but get black bars whatever scaling settings I seem to use
all games by johan peitz, but the best is the shadow king.
I feel like I need to drive some Pico-8 trains now.
