Winter Sowing Native Flowers and Perennials

- Flower Seeds are good for winter sowing in containers like water jugs, milk jugs or other plastic containers. I'm starting native flower seeds in January because they need cold stratification.

When do you transfer them out of the containers? I have a bunch of saved gallon jugs to do this with! Thanks
I usually plant all of my winter sowing containers in May. This year the only container I didn't plant out in the garden are my coneflowers. I took the whole container and planted it into a larger container so that the roots had more room to grow as well as get more nutrients from some fresh potting soil. Hope that helps.

Thanks. It is the basis of winter sowing 😉 Has worked beautifully for me in past years but this is the first time trying to grow natives using this method.

Hi Michael. I got ahead of myself and ordered just about all my seeds. For my warm summer veggies and flowers I will be winter sowing those in March as well - but likely middle to late March for me. Happy gardening and I appreciate your continued support. 🥰
I get a little anxious for Spring this time of year. I can't wait to see all the beautiful flowers.
Winter sowing helps me with the wait. Last year was exhausting so I’m enjoying the break. I have so many plans this year that I will be very busy. Probably won’t get them all done.
