The orange flash was the pyrotechnic charge which sets off the nitrogen gas filling of the airbag(s)

How many times are you going to post this video? How about an updated one not using a dinosaur 4x4?

Well, since there is practically no one buying MPVs anymore, the updated test would have to be 4X4 vs 4X4 I guess, which would render the test pointless.
Modern SUVs are literally estates or people movers with lift kits, the construction is in some cases are identical. (Jaguar XK and Jaguar F pace)
Also no one ever mentions that SUVs are much more accident prone, with longer stoping distances and a higher center of gravity, it's amazing anyone thought they were safer in the first place

Considering the only real difference between an SUV and an MPV nowadays is ride height they would probably fare about the same.

How things have changed now days ANY Fifth Gear video i give it the thumps up n love to watch it as for the top gear comedy show not watched it for years for me it started going down hill ages ago actually since Tiff left
When talking about safety, one ever mentions that SUVs are much more accident prone than normal cars. With longer stoping distances and a higher center of gravity, it's amazing anyone thought they were safer in the first place!
And also the extra mpg...
if it was a newer suv it would be safer. heavier vehicles always fare better, as your stopping force is less. instead of going 70 kph to -15 kph you go 70 to +15. while yes more accident prone, they are far better at dealing with an accident once it happens.

The 4x4 looks tougher from the outside. I have a Jaguar XJR and I got rear ended by a Honda. My Jaguar rear bumper was slightly damaged by the Honda front bumper was crushed. I would rather be in a Jag during a crash.

they have done the same crash test between a renault modus and an old volvo ( the renault wins) , you should see the volvo's fans totally nasty and upset vs renault !
And the Volvo Fanboys come out with silly claims, like the engine was taken out, or something else is rigged!!

@@matthewking5612 The more funny thing about this is: The same would have happened if they were to crash the same Volvo 740 into a newer V60. And since these Volvo Fanboys are saying that the older Volvos are the best, they would say the same stuff, like that something was rigged and I'll be like:
Guys, the 740 isn't a f*cking tank! Older Cars will never hold up against the newer ones! While the older Volvos were pretty safe in their time, it doesn't mean that they will still save you today. But no one of them likes to hear the truth.
@@Christian17390 also unless money is no issue pound for pound volvo is less safe as a volvo vs Ford comparison the same budget will put you in the next generation model. So around 6 years apart and often 1 or 2 n cap rating apart. The 850 cost easily as much as a mk3 mondeo. And the 740 was probably competing with a mk1 mondeo.

That discovery is at least 10 years older than the Renault. If your going to do a comparison between a 4x4 and a MPV at least use comparable vehicles.
Now do the test again but now with the same year Renault Espace and a Discovery 5 instead of a Discovery 1. I guess you will be amazed by the outcome.
When you are crashing a car designed in the late 1980's into a car designed in the early 2000's and then being surprised that the car with the latest safety features and design is the safer car that is when you need to get your head checked.
You are missing the point , people (idiots) amsume how safe a car is because of size and not becuase crumple zones and modern saftey feature.

I was in a crash and I was in my mums espace and I was fine so was my mum and gran( who happened to be riding with us) the other people were in a skoda and were injured .
The espace monstered the 4 by 4.

Renault 1.4 MPI engine in Dacia Logan, goes 1 million km without any work inside the engine. And in Taxi city driving. Yes, Renault is mich better than overrated VW.

So in other words, the very UNRELIABLE Range Rover is a death trap.
But the Range Rover is usually in the repair shop, so hopefully your rental car will save your life.
