Also, remember. There is no bad weather in Iceland, only bad clothing. Remember almost everybody is playing soccer or out and about unless the wind is atrocious or there is a whiteout blizzard
I couldn't tell you how many times I heard that in the first few months 😄 Yes only bad clothing! Though the rain and wind together can be challenging haha
Thanks Chynesa! I really wish I could stick to regular uploads too. It has just been so difficult with my schedule being been so hectic. The time will come soon though! Blessings right back at you from Reykjavik! x
The summertime makes up for the winter darkness, then it doesn't get dark at all ;) And the hot water only stinks at the south west corner. Can be fixed with heat-exchanger, that makes the hot water heat up the cold one (expensive setup though). Hope you enjoy your stay.
Summer time most certainly will make up for the darkness, with it being such an extreme opposite of winter! I'm looking forward to my first Summer in Iceland :) I don't think I'll be getting that heat exchange system anytime soon, but it's good to have the option of a solution to it hehe. Thank you, I will enjoy my stay very much :)
Had the same issue with an Icelandic on tinder :) you have such a great soul, and totally right , don’t stop because of one/two bad experiences . I really did enjoy your video ! Cheers .
Love her info on Iceland. Would love her insight on entertainment/culture on this country. Are there historical castles, museums, symphony concerts? What does a weekend look like?
Ah no! So you mean we don't have a warm summer to look forward to? Sometimes in England the heat is unbearable so I don't mind if it's not going to be scorching ;)
The best thing about Iceland IS the water Tabitha!!! I just came back this week from my first trip to Iceland and I'm still in induced by the H20 over there. I love the smell. Side note, I love the experiences your sharing. Said from someone on the prowl for new surroundings, of which Iceland takes HIGH president.
Hi Tabitha! I´m from Uruguay. I lived in UK and I travelled a lot because of my job. I can understand you when you say the buses are late: for a British, 2 or 10 minutes are unacceptable! But in Uruguay it´s a fair delay hahaha! When you talk about the food availability, in Uruguay there are plenty of imported goods and that it´s not a problem. But a couple years ago I turned into a minimalist mind, so I decide to do my shops only in the small supermarket turning the corner. I decide to change my tastes, my diet and my routine. So I guess I could get used to the Icelandic markets. About the water, when i visited Iceland it was not bad at all and I don´t even remember how the water smells. The darkness I guess could be a problem but also in Scotland it´s dark at 4pm on winter. I really like your videos, so I´ll suscribe now! Warm regards and all the best for you!!! Laura
we do experience delays here in the UK too but mostly on Sundays lol. You could definitely get used to Iceland. They actually have more options than I specified/thought. I am from the UK so I definitely know about that 4pm darkness. Thankfully now spring is here so that means longer days. Thanks for subscribing! You are very welcome 😊
im from iceland and there are alot but not many types if you have you're window open then you'le get a some hudge flies that look like mosquitos but they arent they are called hrossaflugur but they are only in summer. But you will get spiders and tiny mosquito copy cats in youre house at night and in winter time there are prob going to be mice in you live close to wildlive
My fiancé is an Icelandic citizen born in the Philippines and we are moving there next year ! If she can handle the change in climate I’m sure I can. Glad to see your views as it’s always good to see the negatives as well as why people love Iceland
Nice! All the best with the move. It's good you have plenty of time to get yourself mentally as well as physically prepared. It's definitely important to see the negatives as well as the positives :)
I'm glad you got it! I was most certainly respectful in every way. Everything I mentioned was very superficial...... I mean come on! - "WIND" haha I don't think anybody genuinely enjoys the wind. People who disliked, did it before they even watched the video I think.
Icelandic people are extremely sensitive to any criticism about iceland. Im icelandic but lived overseas for a few years and icelandic people are so proud and dont want nothing but praise about the country. Ofcourse this isnt everyone and there are a lot of amazing things about iceland. But icelands inability to accept any critecism is my least favorite thing about living here
Hi, nice video :) Just thought you might like to know there are supermarkets open 24h in the Reykjavík area, I know about Hagkaup Skeifan, Hagkaup Garðabær, Netto Mjódd and Netto Grandi at least. And Hagkaup Eiðistorg and Hagkaup Spöngin are open from 8 in the morning until midnight. The 10-11 shops are open early and close late and some even 24h but they are of course crazy expensive (more than the "normal" expensive...). And you can get a few kinds of flavoured popcorn like cheese, caramel, liquorice... never seen paprika popcorn ;) And I loooove liquorice but can't eat it anymore :(
Thanks Hildur! I found out about those 24 hour shops by Skeifan recently. And now I make use of them 😊 I think what I thought was paprika popcorn is actually cheese. The only (mild)Liquorice flavoured thing I like is a sweet from the UK called black jack :)
I think Iceland will keep growing on you, you sound to like it quite abit and I agree on your points I used to live there for 4 1/2 months before returning to US I loved Iceland when I was there and I agree there is nothing to really hate except really the high prices.
I TOTALLY agree with you when it comes to bus ticket prices! They really are too damn high! From around 2007 to 2018 the price went up from around 100ISK to 450ISK!!!
Actually, now the cost of a ticket is 460! I can't believe it. Luckily I walk alot so avoid some of the expense lol. I wish that 460 covered 2 trips. Then the price would make more sense.
Tabitha Laker Well, the drivers do hand out "exchange tickets" (skiptimiði) for passengers who request for them, in which case it serves as two tickets for the price of one. The downside is that their use has a time limit that can be seen on the center of the ticket. It's still a pretty good deal for people who use the bus frequently.
Tabitha Laker Yeah, it's pretty frustrating. But Reykjavik is fortunately a pretty safe city and easy to go around on foot or by bicycle(at least when it's not smothered in snow! 😂😂😂).
I lived in Iceland for 10 years. Love fish and dark chocolate. Hate licorice. For winters, I said the response to the dark is coffee, candles and chocolate. Love Te og Kaffee on Borgartun. Next, I love Sufistinn in Hafnarfjodur!
ohh sounds like you did much more than try to live there. You embraced it fully! Thanks for the Hafnarfjörður coffee house recommendation. I like Te Og Kaffi and have been to most downtown.
Hehe it's an interesting thing to desire! You would really like the darkness then 😃 Though if you come in summer you better be prepared for the extreme opposite hehe - 24 HOURS OF SUNLIGHT 😅 - I'm looking forward to it.

I'm slowly getting more used to Liquorcie though it tool me a while to eat my Easter egg candy haha! And, I'm also used to the sulfur smelling hot water too hehe
Omg I couldn't even swallow it! So gross. I would describe it as putrid. Some people have a taste for it, but I am definitely not one of those people lol!
You are too funny! What moisturizer are you using? Your skin looks wonderful and I know the weather is challenging for skin! Maybe you should do a video on care tips for Iceland weather!
Vitamin D & sometimes Iron. Though full bloodwork once you move over will let you know exactly where you are healthwise. Most milks/dairy products in Iceland are fortified with vitamin D which helps.

I was partly joking. I really don't mind the short days that much. They actually passed by faster than I had expected :) I'm kind of looking forward to the constant daylight...We'll see what I think in a month or so :)

Oh is Walmart that amazing? I think you can get some similar cookies to Chips Ahoy in Bonus or Hagkaup. That's true about shipping, but why would you need Lizards?
The highest temparature was about 20 Celsius degrees in Akureyri, 15 celsius degrees in Reykjsvik this year. Just one day like that. Usually it was about 12-13 degrees in Reyjavik in summer.
Tabitha Laker - Even I know the wether in Iceland is no better than like New York is in certain time of the year but cleaner Air to breath. But good luck
@@exmar2331 Oh I know. I actually never ever had an issue with weather. I grew to love the snow. And the 24 hour daylight is divine! The only irritating aspect of weather, was the wind, wet days and black ice.

Speaking about a small seasonal depression. I'm glad I didn't get depressed this winter here in NY. I normally get it really bad.
That's a win! Hopefully it doesn't happen in the coming years too :)
Girl, you had me laughing the whole time. Thank you. Happy New Year 😊

Regarding pop corn and store opening hours. Check out Netto or Hagkaup. They are open later (some open 24/7) and you can get caramel pop corn. Yep.

Im with you … liquorice is disgusting …. I can’t even smell it !
Oh the smell is ok for me, the taste is the problem. I like red liquorice though.

Yes I've tried it and I got a very weird vibe from it. I do however know of 1 person I follow on social media who had success with it. Thanks for rooting for me. So since you recommend it, is that how you met your husband/wife? or do you have a close friend who met their husband/wife there?
Greeting my sister when you speak of money break it down to dallor and cent, i really respect your boldness did you find a job?be blessed my sister
Maybe I will make a specific video on money in the future but for now you can just research online :)

I hate it because:

Amazon shipping takes forever
No lizards
Oh is Walmart that amazing? I think you can get some similar cookies to Chips Ahoy in Bonus or Hagkaup. That's true about shipping, but why would you need Lizards?

Really? I'm not there right now so I don't know but I head it wasn't that hot....I will be back soon so I hope I wouldn't have missed the best of it.
The highest temparature was about 20 Celsius degrees in Akureyri, 15 celsius degrees in Reykjsvik this year. Just one day like that. Usually it was about 12-13 degrees in Reyjavik in summer.

If you remove some of the negative things about climate, then Iceland had more competition for immigrants to work here.

@@TabithaLaker ekkert persónulegt. Ég þekki mikið af fólki(ca.15)i sem vildi vinna en fóru af því að þau voru ekki að venjast að veðrinu herlendis.

Exmar complaining
Tabitha Laker - Even I know the wether in Iceland is no better than like New York is in certain time of the year but cleaner Air to breath. But good luck
@@exmar2331 Oh I know. I actually never ever had an issue with weather. I grew to love the snow. And the 24 hour daylight is divine! The only irritating aspect of weather, was the wind, wet days and black ice.
Too many adverts - really spoils the flow of your video
