If you dual wield, starting katana and rivers of blood is op. I use regular katana in my left for powerful strikes added with ROB strikes and using ROB’s ash of war is very effective for the combo

I dual wield Dragonscale in my main hand and RoB in my off hand. I enjoy it more, and I do occasionally throw in the Metoric Ore blade. I just got Hand of Malenia, so Ive been playing around with that, so far, though, been sticking to my Dragonscale. Been fun!
I use keen nagakiba with bloodflame blade in main hand while duel wielding with RoB. It's honestly busted
Currently Using x2 uchigatana one with lightening ash of war the other with sacred blade going to change em once i get better ashes a moonvail and Rivers of blood duel weilds with switching in between to make the most amount damage possible Love the game ganna get a handheld with a cool ryzen processor soon and play the game all over again just love elden ring played it 3 times now still finding new stuff

A problem with Rivers of Blood is that it takes awhile to get during a regular playthrough so a player has to rely on other weapons/Kitana until then.

Uchigatana and Bloody Slash can be grabbed in the first 10 minutes and make a good early game alt

Meteoric ore blade is the best katana for giving your enemies hugs (still my preferred sword on appearance alone)

I think the moon veil is better as it has better poise damage and it has better range meaning you can stay slightly out of range from the enemy and still deliver poise breaks while with ROB you have to get up close and the blood effect is not good against most bosses because of how close you have to get to use it and how many of the bosses have immunity to blood loss.
Counter point Rob does fire damage which can be use to reset frostbite when power stances with a frost weapon (also a lot of enemies are weak to fire)

I don't know why but the nagakiba seems a bit heavy when I play with it, it seems slower than other katanas like the uchigatana or the snake katana(so I've used these 3 katanas so far)

I’d put serpentine above dragonscale in my testing the dog is better and the move set let’s you get in so many more hits the poison is alright as well but not a factor

Not to mention it can be buffed via spells. Makes it OP imo. Bloodflame blade buff WITH a blood AoW makes it CRAZY good

I worked super hard through the game for the rivers of blood so i want to like it morebut i think I like moonviel a little bit more. (P.S i might have the wrong build for it so its really a 50 / 50)
My vote goes to the Nagakiba as number 1 Katana and I have the Bloodhound Finesse in my off hand.

Great list, but I’d drop HoM to 5. The special never hits and consumes way too much stamina. I’d also switch Moonveil and RoB. Moonveil has that range and speed that give it the edge, IMO.

Probably useless. Katanas are dex weapons and don't scale well with strength. If you were to try a quality build with a heavy affinity katana it might work though.
@@TheRotConsumes. I just had to try a playthrough to confirm that. Moonveil is a magic/dex weapon. Uchigatana is the only katana that scales well with strength (A scale). Nagakiba scales better with dex (A scale)

PS; Moonveil for Number 1 IMO, Ash Heavy for bosses, Ash R1 for everyday enemies and roll catching in PvP, Intelligence is more beneficial as a main stat than Arcane (again, just my opinion lol)

nah arcane just melts bosses similar to comet azure at 70-80 with bleed build up and damage.
Meteoric is by far the best because I can unga bunga and be a weeb at the same time.
But in all seriousness, it has a higher base bleed than the infusible katanas and highest damage for stat investment level at RL125-150, plus significantly faster uncharged and charged R2s
Exactly, M.ore has the power of a heavy with the speed of other katanas, if scaling int, strength, dex this katana and it's ash become amazing, I hated the ash at first but once I learned how to use it the weapon became my favourite

Meteoric ore blade is amazing. The aow is super good for poise breaking tough enemies.
It's bad against groups but it's elite for destroying elite enemies 1on1

Moonveil was originally better than Rivers of Blood, because in the original patch of the game all weapons with arcane scaling were bugged and not receiving the bonus damage from arcane, preventing you from getting full damage from Rivers. They fixed this in either the first or second patch, which is when the game went from everyone complaining about moonveil to everyone complaining about rivers. I don't think either were particularly problematic, it was just that once arcane scaling got fixed EVERYONE wanted to try it out, and the most popular weapon to do that with was rivers.
Wasn't the main issue the stagger damage it would do? Trivialized bosses in PVE with the weapon art and was hard to dodge and staggered the fuck out of you in PVP initially
@@kyleweaver1930 it was never that hard to deal with in pvp, because of a lot of the other problems in pvp. You have to remember this was during the time where you could deathblight off the fire spell without ever swinging your weapon.
Plus lots of weapons did pve stagger damage. You still had to dodge stuff. It's not like R2 was jump attack with a greatsword. It was definitely strong though.

I use 2 and 8. The meteoric ore deals the most physical damage, making it the best companion to the moonviel.

RoB as main and Nagakiba (blood affinity) in dual wielding (left hand - nagakiba) is best for bleed builds, provided that you invest in dex and arcane, but Cold Nagakiba and moonveil at just as good for frost builds, overall for Nagakiba - 8.5/10, RoB -9/10, Moonveil - 8.5/10

Have to agree since the nerfs ore blade is the worst katana. But ore blade does have 1 massive purpose and that is budget twinking, Like holy shit it's so easy to meet requirements for ore blade you can be pretty twinked at level 20 if even that high

Depending on your scaling. My moonveil is stronger than my RoB, both +10. All I hear is bleed bleed bleed when it comes to that weapon and it’s exhausting seeing everyone put it at #1 because the ash is cheap as hell
moonveil is cheap too. 9/10 players don't know how to use the waves.
I got moonveil early in the game ranked it up beside my uchi the sheath heavy kills most opponents in one attack at a larger range and the uchi with sacred blade ash is simply perfect

Uchigatana is better because you can get 2 in the first 20 minutes if you start as samari. But I agree idk why people love rivers of blood it’s late game and does barely 200 damage at max level and attacks slowly

what is this testing been done on? What stat and weapon levels? What talismans and weapon effects do you have on? What move is being used for the damage?
@@common_undead testing is done on NG+7 godrick, there are no buffs being used, the stats are optimized for each weapon and it is testing AoW DPS.

@@Prez54 no problem - i am an elden ring master have over 1000 hours in the game, have beaten over 20 different unique playthroughs, and any% glitchless speedrun the game. And i still enjoy your content because the grind is real.
Elden ring made a lot of peoples channels blow up, and it makes me want to start my own channel too even tho the game is a year old.
I spend a lot of time playing and learning optimized routes i am thinking of starting my own channel teaching people how to set up powerful characters in less than an hour or how to optimize certain builds.
