I'm trying to imagine, how much work you will put in every of your videos. They are so well balanced in knowledge versus speech versus length and always on track of perfection. No needless gossip, no advertising and always close to the topic. Compressed knowledge, presented in most sympathic manner. Extra bonus is that I am able to exercise my english knowledge because of your very clear and good pronounciation. Thank you!

      Wow, you are too kind!
I appreciate the compliments. I am actively working on keeping my content more concise, because that has not always been my strength. It's a continuous work in progress!

    Great Vid! - My takeaways:
my old i5 7200 ghz laptop would handle things for a while, but after an hour or so, start acting weird…upgraded to i7 pc with SSD instead of HDD drive…and I sure wish I could have those 6 months of my life back!
Test Test Test - Yes! - On your first call - if the person on the other end says to you: “I can tell you’ve done this a thousand times” - you can honestly answer, “Yes I Have!”
In your Aspect Ratio portion, you said you might turn into a square - don’t worry Cat, you’ll always be cool to us.

Yes! I used to go to great lengths to keep my computer from overheating and shutting down. The extra processing power is worth the investment!

    Absolutely wonderful, Cat!
I especially love how you totally own your previous work, and immediately go into implementing the fixes you've learned through experience.
    Blessings on you!

I’d love to see a video from you about the differences in quality and handling of the three major video conferencing software such as zoom, teams and Google meet.

Excellent tips and definitely stuff you don't necessarily think about when you're dreaming up snazzy graphics and layouts.

Well done. You have succinctly summarized the best of your past two years of online successful presentation techniques. The only thing that I would add, now that the Portal is no longer available, is using either another monitor or virtual monitor and Zoom's "Share Screen" capability for higher resolution. The best way to test and monitor quality is to use a second, separately logged in computer, (can be a free account), during your presentation. Just make sure you have an ethernet connection.
I agree about hardware limitations. My ten year old i5 was not adequate to concurrently running Zoom and OBS. MY i9-12900 with four graphics outputs is. The moral is if you want to do a professional engaging presentation there can be no distractions.

Thanks Cat. BTW you get rid of audio/video lag within OBS. Also, if people use a mixer like your Rode, it can do that as well.

Excellent work and tips. I just want to add my two cents, Cat: your video has a very slight video lag. Probably under 100ms delay, but the audio comes a bit behind the image. I have a trained eye for many kinds of video issues and although itsn't distracting, I bet you're picky person and would like to correct that.
In my computer, which is powerful, I'm using an external professional AKAI USB audio interface and I have to set 160ms to match perfectly audio and video in OBS.
Anyway, it's another engaging video from someone that clearly not just knows what is doing but also truly enjoys, and that can be seen just by looking at your eyes. Congrats!

Are you still using NDI to stream to Teams/Zoom? Or, is NDI less compelling on 2023, as opposed to OBS Virtual Camera. Thanks for an extremely helpful channel!

great video. I didn't know the statistics area of Zoom. very helpful.
In my experience, I can prevent my image from being cropped in MS Teams by pinning myself for the other participants. At least according to their feedback.
    Didn't test it 🤔

That's great to hear! In my tests, spotlighting the video did seem to maintain the aspect ratio, but I didn't feel confident about saying that definitively. Glad to hear that has worked for you!

Excellent advice as always Cat. I'm having problems setting up a virtual audio cable at the moment. I a usb headphone / microphone and have questions about my windows audio settings and those in OBS. Your advice would be really useful. I teach English online and good audio quality is so important. I also need to share videos, which is giving me a real headache at the moment especially when using teams. 😊

    • @Learn2Canoedotca

      df#1 Don't sweat it.
#2 add the virtual audio cable into OBS
#3 point Zoom to the virtual audio audio as your microphone.
#4 Why are you using a virtual audio ?? (If you are using OBS' filters, I retract the question).

I love Zoom because you have so much control over the stream and output (well, up to a point), but alao have the ability to pause your screenshare. That is something Teams does not have, which is a HUGE pain in the back while doing demos.
Although that is screensharing and not virtual Camera of course.

Certainly a lot of fuss involved to get graphics/text overlays working reliably. I actually rather liked the low-tech old Logitech Capture approach to this, and to scene switching, but the software wasn’t ideally suited to virtual camera streaming and then development stopped when later OS and hardware updates were rolled out.
