    THE best tutorial on setting up Loopback ever! I've owned Loopback for years but never used it because I could never figure it out properly but this was nice, clear, and concise!

    Thanks Cat! I had my Celebration stream yesterday for reaching my 1k subs and 4k watch hours so I was going to have some people coming in from Ecamm because I already have 4 people on ecamm. I have loopback for sometime now but I always get very bad feedback/echo so I have never really used it. your video - this video - helped me last night to finally make our audio issue -zoom to ecamm and ecamm to zoom via loopback finally work!!! It was an awesome stream. thanks to your video I was able to fix my settings. Thanks again Cat!

    this is a fantastic demonstration of what Loopback does. Thanks for sharing it. Also... your clock isn't working. (I'm assuming you took the battery out so as not to distract). I wish I had seen this 2 years ago when you posted it. It's taken me about to 2 years to perfect a Zoom/Loopback/Sounddesk/Korg Nano Kontroller workflow. Everything leans VERY heavily on Loopback's power.

    Great tutorial Cat! It's a bit more complicated to setup audio than video, because audio is not visual, but Loopback makes it easier to setup. When I compare to VB-Cable, Loopback is more user friendly with their user interface. VB-Cable works well as a cheaper alternative, but you have to remember what goes to Cable A, what goes to Cable B, etc., and it adds some complexity when you try to put everything together. Also, as you can rename each virtual microphone in Loopback, having a significant name definitely makes it easier to configure all audio sources.
    I think the main benefit to put all sources in OBS or Ecamm Live, is to have more control on everything related to audio, and you only have one place to go to make adjustments. If you have a guest in Skype, and you bring the audio feed in OBS/Ecamm instead of using it directly in Loopback as a source, you can add some filters like "Remove noise" or "Compressor", and you can adjust the volume for the guest more easily, as it's right there with all your other audio content.
    Finally, maybe there's a better way, but one good approach I found to add audio files to OBS, is to create multiple scenes. As an example, I created a scene "Music" where I only added music files. I created a scene "Sounds" where I only added sound effects. I created a scene "Audio" where I added my microphone and a virtual microphone to capture system sounds, and in that scene, I also added the first two scenes "Music" and "Sounds". In all my other scenes with visuals, I only added the scene "Audio", and as the two other ones are embedded, I have access to all music and sound effects no matter which scene (visual) is selected, using a Stream Deck. For someone with many sound effects and music files, that could be a good way to organize everything.

    • @CatMulvihill
      @CatMulvihill  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for sharing about the scenes in OBS for music and sounds. Since I've been using it mostly for visuals, I have a blind spot around the audio side of OBS right now.

      Big fan of ECAMM! Here's a quick tip for users trying to send ECAMM audio to without using Loopback.
      1. Activate NDI Output in ECAMM (Pro Version Only)
      2. Download free NDI Tools
      3. Activate NDI Virtual Input
      4. Select ECAMM under NDI Virtual Input
      5. NDI Video and NDI Audio will show up in the media selection dropdown in ZOOM, Teams or whatever you're using.
      There is no latency and it's absolutely free. I'm not affiliated or have any link to NDI except I'm a fan of both (ECAMM and NDI).
      Let me know how it goes! Cheers!

    @Cat Mulvihill - Your delivery and explanations are very clear!
    About "Enable Original Sound" - is it not the case that each listener has to click on that for them to hear the "original sound" that creator is sending? Maybe I'm misunderstanding...

    • @CatMulvihill
      @CatMulvihill  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The original sound is the sound you send out. Participants do not have to turn it on in order to hear your original sound. For example, if a musician plays an instrument, turning on original sound means Zoom will simply play the sound so everyone hears the instrument. No one else has to change their setting to hear it.

I was going to consider to buy another videocamera, but I already have this one but it seems like neither Ecamm, nor OBS sees another FaceTime HD camera, because it peaks up the main iMac camera and doesn't want to see another FaceTime HD camera. Please, help me understand if it is possible to link these two video devices.

      Provided that Loopback is configured, you can forget it. The virtual microphones you created are available from all apps where you can assign audio source or output. Please observe that you'll still need to make sure all virtual mics are activated in Loopback if you intend to use them. I know people who have Loopback opened only to activate or de-activate different configurations. But my use case s that I have 3 virtual mics and they're on all the time, Loopback isn't opened.

I did have one question though, when i have done these steps, i have gone into Ecamm, under the output and changed the audio monitor to zoom audio. Do I not need to do that to ensure that the audio from Ecamm and the guest are pushed to Zoom?

    I am having a co-host record my live sessions in zoom (locally or in the cloud) and I'm having a ton of trouble getting the video and audio to line up in the recording. Any advice on getting aligned, high-quality zoom recordings? (I used your trick in zoom to 'screen share' from an ecamm video monitor, and I've been getting a respectable video quality in the zoom recording) I am experimenting with blackhole (similar to loopback) - which let's me route ecamm audio directly to zoom. While live, participants say the sync is great (though does slowly drift) This can be fixed by a quick restart of the zoom screenshare, but none of this helps with getting the zoom recording lined up. Would appreciate any insights or a video! = )
