you are doing a great thing for struggling parents. i hope this encourages you to keep going. i’m an autism dad who disagrees with medicating my child. i believe the culture of everything at our children’s fingertips cause this (i.e streaming platforms, etc)
Thank you for the word of encouragement. It is difficult when I know TH-cam isn’t sharing my videos as much as others. I’m conservative and believe I’ve been shadow banned. My hope is to help as much as I can do parents feel empowered to be the most effective they can be! If you want to, sharing my videos would really help. Thank you!
I love the approach here! It’s so true that meds aren’t the only option for managing ADD or ADHD. Helping kids focus through love, understanding, and guidance is so powerful. And hey, don’t forget-ADHD music can be a big help too! Many folks find that certain sounds or rhythms really aid concentration and calm.
It is not a behavioral disorder! ADD and ADHD. The brain of an ADD and ADHD person is wired differently it does not function and it does not produce certain chemicals in the brain like a neurotypical person does. The brain of an ADD or ADHD person produces lower the normal amounts of dopamine. I was diagnosed with ADHD as a child. I also have two siblings one has ADD and the other one has ADHD and ODD. My kids also each have a form of it. Diagnosis is important as there's a lot of overlapping with other conditions and other things that can appear to be ADHD and ADD. Exercise is great when you have ADD and ADHD. Still going to have focus problems irregardless of how much exercise you get it may help a bit but the focus issues are always going to be there. Rewards for getting things done works a lot differently with people with ADHD and ADD as it has to be an immediate reward and things that stimulate are dopamine production immediately after we do something are the best way to ensure that we can hopefully managed to keep doing it again and again. And unfortunately for some people with their ADHD symptoms and ADD symptoms they may need medication as it can be helpful for some people.
I do not agree with you. The lack of skill in focus causes behavioral issues. So it IS a behavior problem that sometimes stems from a lack of focus. The problem of learning to discipline one's mind to overcome that problem is very possible without medications. Medications are not needed. I suggest you look into some of the new discoveries that have been made in how a person can train themselves through focus exercises to learn how to concentrate. So we disagree. But thank you for your comment.
Attention and focus is a skill that you can learn if you’re given the time and energy by parents and teachers instead of drugging children with horrible medications that stunt their growth. Read Gabor Maté’s book (scattered minds). It’s not a reward centre defect or a genetic disorder.
I had such bad ADHD that I would daydream and then wander around the classroom like I was sleepwalking. An actual fugue state. Even in Junior High. It was only as an adult in my forties I learned I was also autistic. I don't know or care which neurological problem was worse. I learned on my own to deal with both but it wasn't easy. Children who need extra attention should get it. Medication is like punishment in my mind, it should always a last resort. Regrettably I got both.
My son’s teacher was pushing for him to get assessed for ADHD as well and kept telling me he’s struggling, he keeps fidgeting, he can’t sit still!! She even told me there’s a private speech therapist that’s coming to the school but the school will pay for the assessment if you let him get assessed!🤔 I was confused because at home he can sit for 40 min and can finish his homework. Turns out she was giving him an iPad or sending him to the “sensory” room whenever he fidgets or refuses to do tasks which made him do exactly that to get rewarded!! Once I sorted that with her and had a word with my son about behaving well in class just like he does at home, the problem was gone. The teacher kept asking me every time she saw me what I’ve done to make my son sit still in a week!! She really thought/still thinks that I cured my child’s ADHD in a week😂
This is a HUGE problem. Any time some teachers have any problem with a student, their default is to say the child must have ADD! Sone doctors do the very same thing. I am going to be posting another video soon about that problem. Congrats to you! You did the right thing. You took the time to see what was going on and found a solution. No meds necessary! Awesome. Thank you for sharing your story 💕
This was a hard one to watch and forced myself to watch it more then once. As alwasy it seems I agree and dissagree with you Holly. Creative outlets should be encouraged for a child with ADHD and all children need exercise. But when it comes to the scouts or team sports, these squash individually. It forces involuntary social conduct into groups with very ridged structues durring what should be their own time. Situations where they are bulied. Kids with ADHD are prone to be bullied, and become bullies. Not always but often. I don't see the benifit of forced rigid socialization that curb individuality. To play a sport you have to follow the rules and pay attention or be ridiculed. In scouts you have follow endless rules. But every person with ADHD is an individual and often not a happy one. And I hate to say it but sometimes medication can be helpful. I do not know how to stop potentially dangerous drugs from being over prescribed. But the medication can help if used properly.

Thank you! I haven’t read that book but I totally agree with your conclusion. 😊💕

@@Shyster099 yes. We will have to disagree. Thank you for the comment.
@@MommyAnswerLady Better to disagree then fight. Too much of that in the world already right? (Edit was just to fix spelling)
@@MommyAnswerLady And we agree on most things.
It was good that you and your husband worked together to help your son. ❤
@@CommittedWifeTV I’m very blessed with an awesome husband. 💕😊 Thank you for your comment!
