I very much agree, failure to discipline is neglect and neglect is abuse. I don't know how I would handle that kind of tantrum, hopefully something in between her reaction and what my own parents would have done. What is really infuriating to me is she recorded this instead of tending to her child.
@@Shyster099 Because she had listened to the gentle parenting “experts”, she believed she was tending to her child. She was employing the strategy they tell parents to use. I don’t blame this mom especially because she did come to realize this way doesn’t work. She was just trying to do what those “experts “ told her was best.
@@MommyAnswerLady I don't think she was being cruel, but it was neglect I think. Not sure how I would handle that tantrum. A very long hug untill she calmed down
@@Shyster099 Oh no. A hug would not be the proper response. There is an entire playlist on this channel about what to do. And it’s mentioned in this video.
@@MommyAnswerLady I didn't explain myself very well there at I guess. I didn't want to use the word 'restrained' for obvious reasons. I meant a very tight 'hug' that would keep the child still without hurting her. Would that be acceptable? Also I hadn't watched your CTM video yet, and I am kind of happy my instinctive reaction was close to what you recommend. I am not sure about covering the mouth though, I would be too scared of inhibiting their breathing and worried about the emotional damage that could cause. Also that kid looked angry enough to bite.
@@Shyster099 If you watched the entire video on the CTM method, it makes very clear that breathing should never be inhibited. My first point is that this never would have happened at all had she taught and trained her child to behave previously. And used the CTM method. I don’t have a problem with using the word “restraint”. That’s what needs to happen with this little girl obviously. She is out of control and control needs to be taken by the parent when the child doesn’t have it. Someone needs to be in charge or everything becomes chaos--as was this situation. Once she has gained her composure, control can be given back to the little girl. That’s part of what the CTM method does. The other part of what CTM method does is it inhibits the sound from coming out of her mouth. Part of a tantrums effect is to use the voice box in order to irritate the other person and express frustration or anger. If that effect is completely squashed, the behavior stops. This is a method that does not hurt, cause any pain, and it is very effective.

Do I spy Matt Walsh? 😅❤
Allowing your child to hit you is insane, not cathartic or whatever the new parenting trends say.
