Tilt is a good friend of my father. I just discovered this video. I had no idea how amazing this person is. I just remember answering the phone when I was a little kid and hearing him say this is “Tilt” where is the “Wolfman” That was my father’s nickname. My father has dementia now. I wish I was smart enough to ask more questions. So grateful I came across this amazing video!!!

My father in law, Stanley Skowron was a Green Beret over there. He was a Polish immigrant that spoke 5 languages and was one great American!
I’m sure his language skills made him a hot commodity in Special Forces! I was amazed to learn that all Green Berets spend one third of all their training doing foreign language work. Cheers to Stanley!

My father, Hal Wilson, was on two RT teams but spent the majority of his time on RT New York. I believe from 1968-1970. I truly appreciate listening to these MACV SOG stories to learn what exactly my father went through.

@@BB-wm4ti his dad was a corn farmer, for burbon whiskey in Arkansas, but he never was a farmer, except in his teens, he was scared he was gonna be drafted so joined himself. Omg I would love to talk to your dad. I'm disabled I have OI Google it. I wanted to join the boy scouts as a teen but they wouldnt let me so my uncle who was like a grandfather to me, taught me survival skills and taught me how to be a man. I miss him so much, he died in 2014 of blood clots due to the va canceling his health care due to him smoking weed for ptsd and chronic pain. He had two purple hearts, one when he fell in a punji trap while patrols on a search and destroy and one when he was hit with shrapnel from an artillery shell from the battle of that famous hill battle I forgot the name, he was assigned to 98th explosive ordinance disposal at that time pre sog. He also received a silver star for pulling a pilot out of a burning aircraft on a bright light mission in sog? I think that's what it was called when they went looking for downed pilots and POWs. He took a bullet to the ankle had 2nd degree burns on his arms which he had scars the rest of his life for pulling that Vietnamese pilot out of a heli, scars on his ass and legs for the punji trap. He also had a bronze star with Valor. He was such an amazing man. I miss him so much. Edit. My dad said he was also apart of RT tennessee.

Forgot to reply to part of your post, my dad said my uncle had rlly good senses from when he was a tunnle rat before he joined sog, and my dad thinks that's prolly why he had such good senses because you had to rlly hone your senses in those tunnels, and that's what it was from prolly, but dad said he never knew that he was known for that, but doesn't surprise him at all cause he always had incredible senses when hunting animals, so doesnt surprise him at all that he also had great senses when hunting actual people, and hes confident his time as a tunnle rat had something to do with that if that was the case lol dad and me thank u so much, for chatting so far, we were wanting to learn more about his service and my dad said hearing about these things is making him rlly happy! My dad wants to ask your dad, what was his overall reputation and report with his fellow comrades, also as a SOG member did he perform as average or above average compared to other members across the fence? Also can u tell me a bit about your dads place on the team and the other members of NY, wed love to learn as much as we can about the rest of his comrades!

I was captivated listening to Tilts stories. I listened to 180, 181 & 182. 9 hours of on the edge stories. I don’t know how he is so normal after all that. What a man what a legend. The real deal Jason Bourne for sure. I will be supporting and buying his book. If only Jocko would narrate all the audio books. His voice draws you deep into the stories. I love this channel ❤️

Tilt is awesome. All these SOG dudes are. These podcasts and stories are national treasures. I wish we had long form podcasts decades ago, where all those WW2 guys who were in the real shit could've laid things out like this when most were still around. Hell, I found a printed interview from one of the Color Sergeants from the Battle of Rorke's Drift ("Zulu") that was done in the 1930's. That was amazing to read, imagine to be able to hear it over several hours of just talking. These personal recollections are the real history, not some generalized watered-down garbage taught in public schools. This is a great thing.

I know a Vietnam era Recon Marine. Who worked with a lot of Green Berets up North.
He abandoned his CAR-15 after his first mission. Carried an AK for two years straight.
Before he rotated out. An S-4 told him he'd need to fill a ton of forms. Pull the firing pin, & fill the barrel w/ lead, to take it home

Jocko you talked about JTAC and calling for fire, I was Army 13F Forward Observer or as they call them these days FISTers, we trained at Ft Sill, after basic 8 weeks of Basic Training we spent another 6 weeks training on just calling for fire, 8-10 hours a day 5 days a week, it's pretty involved, this was late 80's, Lasers were still a new technology and GPS was in its infancy, so we're learned old school with Maps and compasses, how to precisely locate yourself, and were the enemy was and how to call in indirect fire, call in distance and direction in MILS from your position and you could direct that fire to run left to right, or SW to NE etc. based in target and how many and large, we did learn the Laser, called a GLID, and transmit electronically to the FDC, also touched on air assets, contacting say the A-10's to run straffing or suppression fire, and the latest greatest thing was Copper Head laser guided Artillery rounds they had in 155's, we had to manually set the laser code and confirm with whoever was sending it.
These podcast are absolutely precious. One because as a general rule most warriors generally don’t talk about the war. Second they only talk about this with their brother warriors that these two men have extraordinary respect for each other. Thank God these men record these for prosperity as they not only detail the amazing courage and skill these warriors have ,but especially in terms of Viet Nam warriors they never got a welcome home from the people they were fighting for. You can say of course politically that war was wrong but the courage and fighting of these men was real.
I have really loved these podcasts with Stryker. I am almost addicted to this podcast. JRE was my #1, Timcast IRL, Shawn Ryan of Vigilance Elite and Jack Carr's podcast. Love this Vietnam stuff and all the viewpoints of the operators that have recently come back. Fascinating stuff.
In episode 180 John Meyer mentions Nick Brokhausen. Nick was another SOG operator who wrote books about the war. I recommend Brokhausen's books if you enjoy this.

Its a crying shame none of these SOG operators speak of any of the absolutely insane shit Bob Howard pulled off,the only man in history to be put in for the MOH 3 times for 3 seperate actions within 1 tour,not to mention being completely overrun by so many waves of NVA Bob called in Spooky to hit his position,fu-k that,spooky gun runs make the A-10 seem tame,id love to hear from his team mates .
Levi, Tilt mentions B.Howard in other episodes, and in more detail in his books. Major Plaster covers Howard's missions in his book on history of SOG.
That's cos Tilt and the other guys are talking about running Recon teams and Bob Howard was mainly on Strike teams and that's different from running Recon!
The things this man can look back on and laugh about is a testament to his courage and tenacity!

My partner at my job before I retired was a Vietnam Vet. He was the only other lunatic I ever met in a gunfight, and I asked him about it one night. He said "after seeing all those thousands of rounds around me, and after being shot up I'm not worried about a few gang bangers." Anthony Waldon was a f*****ng giant, and he was one of the best friends I've ever been blessed to have.
