Witcher 3 should be studied for years to come. There are very few, if any, games that come close to the level of detail, world, and story. My favourite game of all time.
What should really be studied are the the companies that have these 50 million + games sold and then change strategies and go against everything that the fans loved about those games with a new game expecting the same result! Then blaming the fans when it doesn't happen!
Examples? What games have reached that milestone, had a change in strategy resulting in not reaching that milestone again? Quite frankly, there aren't many games (with the possible exception of Nintendo games) having consistent sales (with multiple entries) in that 50+ category in the first place.
@@Raivo_K My question was what games with multiple entries had had a change in strategy that resulted in not reaching that 50+ milestone again. To be fair, you've technically a point with Cyberpunk 2077 considering it's the same developer, but if a game is released broken on release, that broken release being lied about, only to have that release removed from the PlayStation storefront, even, yeah, that's definitely a 50+ milestone hindrance. I just played The Witcher 3 for the first time this year plus it's DLC. Started in January and finished mid-March. What a game, man. Im playng through Cyberpunk right now and unfortunately I can't say it's a 10/10 like The Witcher 3. I read every note, every Bestiary update, got invested heavily in the all the lore, and I thought the balance of a huge open world with many side quests and a segmented story in between is the best I've ever seen. I played every single day without ever getting bored, and I even bought the books right after I finished the game. I really hope and trust that they can evolve the formula with Cyberpunk 2, cause there's a lot of GREAT stuff there but I do have a lot of problems with it. Like why did they put so many data shards in the game??? I want to learn more about the world and lore, but you can find 5 in one room and they're all very long reads. And, Im 20 hours in and have read 1-2 interesting ones, I stopped reading them at this point cause I've heard from a few people it's not worth it in the end to read all of them.

I have bought Skyrim, I think, 6 times for different platforms. Last was for Xbox Special Edition. Last played on XSX. Now it's on Gamepass, so my 7th edition was free. 😅 Damn it. Lmao
In a way I feel like Wii Sports was to the Wii what Beat Saber is to VR currently... Quick matches, easy to explain, and it's an easy way to introduce players to a new and unusual controller concept. Same way that whenever one of my friends or family now wants to experience VR I think "Well... maybe Beat Saber..." back then if they wanted to try the wii it was "How about Wii Sports" Of course, the multiplayer/party game aspect also helped a lot for group events and such
at least for the witcher 3 (not seen the rest of the vid yet) theres also the fact that i picked it up for €9.99. at its release price with zero sales i doubt it would have hit 50m+ copies
I remember my dad once told me he had friend who was a game dev, and appearently at the time he told my dad he was working on a cowboy game in the style of GTA. This was about a year or so before RDR 2 was even teased. I never believed my dad, and when the game was finally announced I lost my shit! I remember my dad simply giving me this "i told you so" look. Never doubted the old man again lol
The guy you had recording gameplay of Wii Sports was so docile! He hardly through the ball and was throwing such delicate punches. It was unusual to watch.
Games sell because they're fun and resonate with us. Something that modern-day publishers fail to recognize even though it's the most obvious thing out there
I bought skyrim twice. My record for the same game multiple times is the original psychonaughts. I ended up getting it 3 different times. Twice on disk then once digitally. It's that good
the longevity of Skyrim is single handedly due to the modding community around it. Otherwise, not a chance it would have seen these kinds of numbers in later years.
That number of copies over multiple years and in some cases multiple versions/updates is what the money blinkered execs think every new release should be hitting
As much as I love Skyrim, I can't help but think of when I heard that Bethesda was really a CIA game publishing company and that's stuck with me for awhile and I have to say, it really does make sense. If nobody knows what I'm talking about, look into it. They very well could be an agency asset, among others.
I'm like you. I'm a diehard Morrowind fan even though I didn't play it until well after Oblivion was out. That said, I do own 3 different versions of Skyrim on Steam. According to my Steam listing I believe I'm at 256 hours in the latest version.
Wii Sports was bundled with the Wii. If you bought the Wii - you got Wii sports. No one BOUGHT Wii sports - they bought a Wii. I don't think ANY bundled games should be on this list. Including Mario Kart. There is no way to tell if a person bought the device and ended up with the game and tossed the game in the trash. I remember when I bought one of my Playstations (I forget which version, and I have had to replace a couple) I got a bunch of crap bundled games with it. Years later I still had not unwrapped those games.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is the greatest game ever made. The level of quality is insane and the story is probably the best since the last of us, might even be a better story than TLOU
This list could easily comprise of JUST Nintendo titles. There's a reason why Nintendo games rarely (if ever) go on sale: They don't have to considering they sell 20 to 50 million on average. One thing's for sure, the combat in Witcher 3 is certainly not its selling point. Marvel's Spider-Man has reached a 50 million units sold milestone this year.
surprised and happy to see how many sells terraria actually has, it's tied at 3rd place for imo the best game ever made. i always thought it was way more niche due to how little it gets talked about.
I am genuinely surprised there weren't more Nintendo games on this list...perhaps if it was 30 million copies or more then Nintendo would have had a lot more games in the list.
you can literally count the great games in the past 10 years on your fingers try doing that for the previous 10 years like 2005 to 2015 it's just beyond phatetic how far the AAA industry has fallen cause of this Cult
My stepson was playing Minecraft pretty heavily. Momma bear wanted me to check it out to make sure it was appropriate. Something happened that lead to momma bear upset I spent too much time on the computer and stepson was begging for his screentime. Not sure what happened.
I’m CLEARLY in the minority on this one … but I never was interested in Minecraft. I’m just not into a building simulator, I’m into, you know, VIDEO GAMES. These things that have plots and characters with a narrative and levels and bosses, you know, actual long standing video game elements! Now I know what people will say, “Minecraft has all of those things!” yeah except NOBODY plays it for those reasons. They just kind hashed on those things pretty lazily to give it some semblance of a game that has a beginning, middle and end. And, yes, I know there are Minecraft spinoffs that actually do play like video games and I know the community has created adventures you can play within the main Minecraft game by joining specific servers but this is all BESIDES the main product that is Minecraft. I would dare say 95% of people playing Minecraft either have not bothered with or are just not interested in playing a Minecraft with a beginning, middle and end with well developed characters and a plot, they just want to build and that’s totally fine … it’s just not for me.
I feel like gta6 online will be a huge turn point for the industry because i'm almost sure its gonna be a mix of grindy and features/content locked behind gta+ , there is now way a company put 1billion$+ into a game just to not milk the entire fan base for years , it's gonna be almost perfectly balance i'm almost sure just enough to be grindy but not too much and just enough for you to think "well why not a little shark card or gta+ sub" i'm hype but kinda of afraid too because i know single player dlc are long gone and the focus is on the multiplayer aspect
There will definitely be games that hit 50 million or more again. Hitting 50 million isn't even that hard and can be done despite the vocal minority of the Internet. But getting above the numbers the top 5 were doing is gonna take time. That and rereleases.
Tbh, I tried Witcher 3 many times and dropped it. I tried to like the game but the combat just put me off. Maybe it's because I'm playing it through cloud gaming on my phone and the main focus of Witcher being connected to it's RPG and Story element, I will try it again once I build my own PC in future.
I only ever play 2 out of 10 in the list, and never finished any of it. there is time when I even question myself why I cannot like Mario when everyone was practically queuing to play it.
I never knew you can separately by Tetris, it just was on every hand held gaming console at the time. I sure played many versions of Tetris, but I never bought Tetris.

9:55 Mario kart 8 Deluxe

Hope it helps 🙂
Fun fact about minecraft, some schools actually use it as an educational platform for some classes.
I had a bunch of game crashes and just a few npc failures, but I really loved Cyberpunk 2077 from the start.
The graphics were stunning, the enviroment and feel of the game unique..
Coming from games like Metro and Battlefield 1 it was perfect
I have 4 different Skyrim editions 😂😂😂😂
I have bought Skyrim, I think, 6 times for different platforms. Last was for Xbox Special Edition. Last played on XSX. Now it's on Gamepass, so my 7th edition was free. 😅
Damn it. Lmao
Wii Sports was bundled with new Nintendo Wii sales in all territories except Japan. They used that to claim it was the best selling game on Wii.
In a way I feel like Wii Sports was to the Wii what Beat Saber is to VR currently... Quick matches, easy to explain, and it's an easy way to introduce players to a new and unusual controller concept.
Same way that whenever one of my friends or family now wants to experience VR I think "Well... maybe Beat Saber..." back then if they wanted to try the wii it was "How about Wii Sports"
Of course, the multiplayer/party game aspect also helped a lot for group events and such
I'm currently playing witcher 3, and if you haven't played it, it's completely your loss.
👍🏼
I easily put 1000 hours into Skyrim on Ps3 as a kid and i loved it! The glitches were part of the experience
crazy, your second games hasn't sold fifty million units - accuracy really has no currency in the modern age
I do feel that Jesse Cox and Totalbiscuits Terraria playthrough gave the game a real boost.
Animal crossing being an exclusive sold approx 50 million ?! That's insane.
at least for the witcher 3 (not seen the rest of the vid yet) theres also the fact that i picked it up for €9.99. at its release price with zero sales i doubt it would have hit 50m+ copies
Wii Sports was bundled with the majority of consoles sold, at least in the UK anyway.
Whoever did that Witcher footage decided "Hey, let's piss off ALL Nilfgaard at once!"
14:40 😆 😆
Nintendo switch: crickets 😔 😔
Stardew Valley may not have sold 50 million copies, but its one of the biggest success stories of gaming in my book atleast. :]
Good morning Gameranx 😎
Good morning
Why Jake Baldino looks like Nico Sallach?
Games like RDR2 and Skyrim are desert island games for sure!
This has been said before, but R* disrespected themselves and RDR2 for completely ditching it. Along with the online mode.
Witcher 3 is the only game I’ve played through twice. It’s just a wonderful experience all round, and the expansions are also excellent.
Great
Crazy how one company had two things here
7:56 i bought skyrim like 4 times 😂😂
Witcher 3 is my GOAT. I’m currently on my 6th(?) playthrough and still haven’t experienced all it has to offer
Yooo good morning gameranx
Good morning
This list could easily comprise of JUST Nintendo titles. There's a reason why Nintendo games rarely (if ever) go on sale: They don't have to considering they sell 20 to 50 million on average.
One thing's for sure, the combat in Witcher 3 is certainly not its selling point.
Marvel's Spider-Man has reached a 50 million units sold milestone this year.
surprised and happy to see how many sells terraria actually has, it's tied at 3rd place for imo the best game ever made. i always thought it was way more niche due to how little it gets talked about.
" Winds howling"
Happy Saturday everyone!
Happy Saturday
I am genuinely surprised there weren't more Nintendo games on this list...perhaps if it was 30 million copies or more then Nintendo would have had a lot more games in the list.
#7: You know, it's been a few years, don't you think it's about time you bought Skyrim again?
Devs will never underestimate character design ever again after 2024
you can literally count the great games in the past 10 years on your fingers try doing that for the previous 10 years like 2005 to 2015
it's just beyond phatetic how far the AAA industry has fallen cause of this Cult
My stepson was playing Minecraft pretty heavily. Momma bear wanted me to check it out to make sure it was appropriate. Something happened that lead to momma bear upset I spent too much time on the computer and stepson was begging for his screentime. Not sure what happened.
Imagine Garelt and Arthur Morgan running into each other in the same universe somehow. 😂
It would be hilarious.
So glad I played Witcher 3 in it's entirety. Can't wait for the next Witcher game
Same here
Hopefully it's actually playable.
@@ACFan88-s1c It's not? , I wonder how I get over 500 hours in it.
@@LoneWolf-c1i you have 500h in a game not yet released? :P
@@SwompyGaming Witcher 3 mate, maybe the comment I am replying is deleted, idk.
13:33 83 million is spoken, but 82 million is highlighted on the screen. 😉
Note how not a single Activision, EA or Ubisoft game made it onto this list.
Rdr2 is 6 years old and has beat any game that came out since
Looking forward to finally playing RDR 1 on the PC
Yes! Imagine the graphics mods that modders make for it
Spider man 2 on pc and rdr1 on pc well some good new this month can't wait
I am still waiting for that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe price drop.
The thing about Skyrim, is you HAVE to buy it on every console. I have it on switch,ps5,and Xbox.
Yep
No because you get it Once only, PC
I doubt we'll see any games sell more than 50 million copies from now on.
I love the stock video of a playstation controller playing mario kart
OG RE4 def hit 50 million no doubt
I only ever play 2 out of 10 in the list, and never finished any of it.
there is time when I even question myself why I cannot like Mario when everyone was practically queuing to play it.
I'm surprised any of the Fallouts aren't on here
I can say I bought witcher3, 3 times myself. steam, switch, playstation
😅
9:40 "A couple of years ago" bruh, it's been 6 years.
Thought #1 would have been Tetris
I never knew you can separately by Tetris, it just was on every hand held gaming console at the time. I sure played many versions of Tetris, but I never bought Tetris.
