      Plus you can play so many things on a tele shape without it looking weird, you can play everything from death metal to jazz to country to math rock, you can’t really play jazz or country on a Flying V without it looking like satire

  • @youhell2328
    @youhell2328 2 ปีที่แล้ว +140

    i think we have to take in account that this guitars are designed to play together and complement each other, Christian is the lead tone in Gojira, and Joe has more of a rythm tone, but at the same time, Joe is the one that does the "solo" sections in some of their songs, you can appreciate that in backbone, THMOTU, l'enfant savage etc etc. IF this guitars where equally beefier, then the sound of Gojira wouln't be so unique. They also love to play the same riffs but with differents shapes on the power chords and thing like that so they give a lot of variation to their songs

    • @crestfallen821
      @crestfallen821 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Are they really designed to complement each other? Jackson and Charvel sat together and worked together to create these models?

    • @helloyu6270
      @helloyu6270 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      What do you mean by different shapes? Octaves, inversions, suspensions, or just same notes different strings (such as low E6 and A string 1st fret)?

    • @youhell2328
      @youhell2328 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@crestfallen821 not directly, but Joe and Christian are long teammates and they build their sound together, when they desing his guitars, they do with the idea in the mind of complement and achieve the sound that they want. Sure maybe Christian would like a ghuitar with 2 pick-ups, but he knows that in Gojira he is not going to use it for example

    • @youhell2328
      @youhell2328 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@helloyu6270 im not a musician and explaining this in English is difficult for me, but for example, in the heaviest matter of the universe, in the riff that starts around 1:51, one of the guitars play 2(6 string) X (5 string) and 4 (4 string), slide to 3X5 and the other guitar plays 2,4,4 slide to 3,5,5. but there are times when one guitar plays something and the other does so in a octave higher, things like that. you can clearly see this if you try to play some Gojira in guitar and see some online tabs

    Both are great! In the last few years i have started to appreciate guitars more and more that are more "simpler", like the Alexi Laiho guitars. I mean i never use the neck pickup anyway and i like the idea of a guitar that is just ready to shred. No useless knobs

    I actually did a pretty similar test at the music store I work at. Thankfully we had both in stock and I was able to AB them, I ended up going with the Joe Duplantier signature, mostly due to it just being more versatile. The only thing I’ve done to the guitar in the 7 months since owning it was add a treble bleed, which I do for all my guitars. Part of my decision was also my fondness for telecasters, and his guitar, despite being geared for metal, also has a look that could let you blend in with the classic rock crowd.

    I’m taking a shot in the dark on the 7th fret marking…. It is where the octave is located in reference to the string lower than it in standard 7th fret on 5th string being the octave above open 6th string. Hard to be more important than that to metal rhythm. Especially when I think of thrash, how many legendary metal songs from the big 4 start off right there??

  • @axeslinger

    So, contrary to what most people would agree - I have found having only 1 pickup and volume knob allows for a lot more creativity. Your limited to work within the boundaries of the instrument and therefore mentally are forced to focus on phrasing and chordal dynamics. You would be amazed just how versatile a stripped down guitar can be. Perfect example would be Ace Frehley. Enjoyed the video Ola. My vote is the Jackson. Most comfortable neck profiles for heavy music IMO. Cheers. 🍻💯

    @ola Englund I'm not 100% sure but the reason for that mark on the 7'th fret may be because that's where the riff for Oroboros starts

    I love T style guitar and passive guitar so id definitely take the charvel. The jackson high output pickup is really snarly I tried it a few times and it's kinda way too aggressive in the top end imo

    To answer the question of where it is made the JD Charvel is made in Indonesia. I own one and love it.

    Charvel is probably made in Mexico. If I was choosing, I'd go for the Charvel, I love those huge inlays and brushed nickel pickup covers.

    That Tele should work as a very cool rock guitar on its off days. That 36th anniversary PAF from Dimarzio is a very cool pickup too that can cover loads of ground. Also I don't think metal riffage doesn't need a very high output pickup, there's plenty of punch on tap on most heavy amps. Cool comparison!
