The Amtrak San Joaquin’s is currently planning to buy enough Ventures to replace every set. Once this happens, i heard the Bilevel sets would go to the Surfline (2 or 3 of them) and the rest would go to the Capitol Corridor. Yet I doubt that would barely be enough to satisfy whatever schedule this is.
It’s been in the maybe we will do it phase for 3+ years now. 4-5 sets would be 110-175M mattering on exact pricing right now. Meanwhile the states dropped 210M on 10 hydrogen “demo” trains and 80M on a battery KISS
lossan is already planning to grab equipment from norcal, that being bi levels & cab cars. i assume theyll probably lease more superliners and p42s once the airos and enough alcs are sufficing amtraks equipment needs
THEY BETTER NOT GET 8306! Yup, get the same bi-level units from the last time the NorCal units were at SoCal. I would like to see 5008 catch 8309 in SoCal.
@@TheAmtrakSpartan Lol no worries y’all can keep the 8300s! I believe we’d be getting the 6960s cabs though since we have a handful here and it’d make more sense to have equipment that is the same as what we’ve got. And maybe we could get some P42s while we’re at it.
Would I like to see hourly frequency? Sure. But I would much rather see them improve frequency north of LA than use the limited equipment they could scrounge up to increase frequency south of LA. Combined with Metrolink and Coaster, it's actually pretty decent LA to SD. It can always be better, but It's honestly not bad. What I really want is increased Metrolink service to the IE so I could actually get to the Surfline. LOL
Hourly service along the pacific surfliner route would be a total game changer indeed help reduce traffic along I-5 but i wish the surfliner route was High speed rail from 165 mph-186mph maybe more with track upgrades straighting with 3-4 tracks shared with Coaster and Metrolink Semi elevation and grade seperation from San Diego to Los Angeles. North from Los Angeles to all to Salinas and Santa cruz as future terminus speeds up 225mph would be a dream lot of opportunities for people businesses along the Pacific coast
There was a proposal to dig a tunnel and reroute the track through it, so those problematic cliffs could be avoided. I don't get why it isn't being worked on already!
@@InventorZahranyes. At least on the San Diego Subdivision the BNSF freights are mostly sent down to San Diego later at night since it’s a dead time for passenger trains. They also get sent out of San Diego late at night too.

Alstom would be the perfect choice for new doubledecker coaches and some MP36PH's from commuter railroads like Caltrain, MARC and Metrolink would be very handy if they were sent into WABTEC and converted to a Tier 4 style. Something like MT44PHAC with AC traction, 4,400 horsepower and intercity service modifications. But honestly, the current timetables absolutely stink.
No to MP36! I'm already upset that the F59PHIs got sold off instead of being rebuilt, so I don't think I could emotionally handle seeing an ugly copycat of their design running on the same line...
I believe there was a plan for them to be refurbished and rebuilt to Tier 4 specs (this making them into MP54ACs like how GO transit). Though I’m not sure if they still have that panned out still.
@natesmainlinevids Well tbh not really as the extra power could really help out the consists and especially around the OC/IEOC Line (iykyk cause those lines tend to be super busy)
For the northern segment I would just add 30 min service to the Ventura county line off peak and then build a separate maglev service between LA and San Luis Obispo making stops at Santa Maria and Santa Barbara and act like a super express service then go beyond to areas served by the riverside line then to Phoenix Arizona
Not only that, but wouldn't be something if there was a train that stopped at all the Coaster AND Metrolink Orange County Line stations between San Diego and L.A. Union Station, meaning you'd have a train stop at Old Town, Sorrento Valley, Solana Beach, Encinitas, both stations in Carlsbad, Oceanside, one of the current Metrolink stops in San Clemente, San Juan Capistrano, Laguna Niguel, Irvine, Tustin, Santa Ana, Orange, Anaheim, Fullerton, Buena Park, Norwalk/Santa Fe Springs, and Commerce. It would also be great for those in my old region to eventually get commuter rail service from San Diego to Riverside via Escondido and the Inland Empire (in addition to the currently planned CAHSR line connecting the Inland Empire to San Diego), as well as rail service from Irvine to the south end of LA Metro's current K Line service in Redondo Beach (the portion the C Line from LAX to Redondo Beach is about to become part of the K Line), so that there's continuous rail service from Irvine to Santa Moncia that serves the coastal cities of northwestern Orange and southwestern Los Angeles counties, which would include John Wayne Airport, LAX, and east-west service through Long Beach, possibly connecting with the A Line near the PCH (I'm not sure the A Line's downtown Long Beach station in the A Line's loop at the south end of the A Line is that great of an idea to connect a future Irvine-to-Santa Monica line to the A Line in Long Beach).
@@sdsk8rboi I actually think the two entities (Coaster and Metrolink) should combine for one or two trains a day that do just that, stop at all the commuter rail stops between the two lines without passengers having to transfer from one to the other.
