I don’t know how many people know this, but if you’ve ever looked into the Kerbal Space Program modding scene and found the main weapon mod BDArmory, this game is made by the guy who made that. He left the mod to make this game and these days there’s a whole team of people still updating BDA who are a pleasure to interact with and we also get to enjoy VTOL. These 2 little corners of the internet are currently living the good ending.

What a power move. You casually flew from the assault ship, to the aircraft carrier, landed, then used their catapult, all while the F26B pilot was trying to talk the other one through start-up and take-off.
This game is so much fun and so good that literally 5 minutes after the heli dlc dropped, I bought it because I had no doubts that it would be amazing, and amazing it was. I wont lie, it might have taken me an hour to complete the training course for the heli despite already being very comfortable with the game, but thats just because its good and helicopters are scary abominations of physics. Genuinely one of my favorite VR games, if not one of my favorite games overall, right next to h3vr.
The heli is so damn satisfying to fly once you get a basic grasp of it though. I still have moments every once in a while where I forget how to trim and flip around like an idiot before smashing...

Yay, another Drewski video on my favorite game of all time. That's some great flyin'! I used to playtest VTOL way back (during the private playtest days) and fell in love ever since. BahamutoD (the dev) has involved the community very early on, which is a core reason why this game has become so awesome. Here's some knowledge you may or may not know that I only learned way too late: In the F-45A, you don't actually need to have your radar enabled to fire AIM-120s. Your plane is automagically datalinked to friendly radars and uses RWR info to estimate enemy locations. Final guidance is done by the missile once it goes Pitbull, and it can usually get there without your radar input as long as you see the enemy on your TSD and the signature isn't outdated. This of course helps you stay undetected for longer. The screen layout feature (top left) of the F-45A is epic and you should definitely use it once you have layouts you like. Having designated Tabs for everything will make you much quicker when accessing the more hidden functions and swapping between contexts. Do note that the RWR and EOTS (TADS) can live within one of the tiny boxes below the main screen sections (the ones you minimize away to maximize the main screens). Another tip for the F-45A: If you have used up your external weapons, make sure to Jettison them to get rid of the empty weapon pylons. This will reduce your radar signature drastically and you'll be harder to lock (and defending is easier). Oh, the "EOTS" button on the TSD will allow you to select enemy ground units and quickly slew your EOTS (TADS) to that target. This also works when the target is not in line of sight (behind a mountain for example) so you can acquire it before actually seeing it. Mavericks will also avoid the mountain in that case and go for a top-down attack, so you can shoot behind cover, too. On the carrier without catapults you can still load your F-45A up to Yellow TWR and take off in STOL mode. Just take off from the runway with an engine tilt angle of 33°, then you can get airborne at a much lower speed. If you teach new players, make sure they enable HUD on the ARAD screen on the F-18 and the AV-42. It shows radar signatures with little diamonds on the HUD, IMO one of the most important things to tell a new player so they can see where radar threats are located. One thing I found extremely useful for capturing footage: Enable the spectator cam (S-Cam) on your second display (this can be done in the Main menu > Settings, there you can also make it so S-Cam settings persist through game restarts) and start the S-Cam in your cockpit. I usually put it in Missile mode so it follows my ordinance to the targets. Use OBS to capture both screens so you have your cockpit view AND the spectator cam within one clip. You can then have the cockpit perspective for most of the flying, and switch to nice external kill-shots when your ordinance kills something. Since you mention it at 20:48, I like to put my targeting system into color sensor mode for landing, even better X-Ray experience. To communicate enemy positions, send GPS data to your teammates (GPS-S button on TSD, EOTS (TADS) or NAV to create GPS points and the Send button on the GPS page will send the entire active GPS group to all friendlies). You can also acquire the active GPS target with the EOTS (TADS) using the GPS-A button. Finally, I hope you know about the Voice Commands to communicate with the Groud crew, AWACS and ATC. Especially useful for rearming or AWACS requests.
Pro tip: use the EOTS even on enemy aircrafts and to spot any missile trail or IR signature. The EOTS provides very accurately refreshed data for your missiles and also for your wingmen. Turn on the AESA radar to scan around potential enemy stealth aircrafts for 10 seconds then turn it off. Stealth also really works with no external pylons (also a thing for the Dragonfly DLC attack helicopter) but mostly if you point your nose directly to enemy radars for an optimal RCS. If you go on a clean configuration on the AH-94 (note: you can still bring the radar and canons obviously), you can approach a long range DS radar as close as 4 to 5 nm at low altitude which is exactly in maximum range of canons. Most people go with full AGM-145 under the wings with the helicopter but that’s a mistake for attacking ground radars. It’s a stealth helicopter but people don’t really understand how its stealth works but it’s very similar to the F-45 in principle, except that it doesn’t have any internal bays like a RAH-66 Comanche.
I kinda wanna see more vtol content, its easier to follow than DCS and more entertaining, and its also you who got me into this game a year ago, which is one of the main reasons I have an interest in aviation today Also your videos make the player count spike, so thats also good for the small community
got like 100hrs flight time in VTOL VR and i am still amazed and happy like a little child everytime i am in the cockpit. Runs perfectly on an meta quest 2 with rtx3080ti via airlink.
Hate to contradict the man himself (and you might not see this anyway because its an old vid), but in the f-45 you do not need to have your radar on basically ever. All it does is give them rwr pings telling roughly where you are, you can get a lock and accumulate targeting information straight through the tsd based solely off information from radar emissions, the awacs, as well as friendly units. This is one of the main strengths of the ghost as it means that A: theres no pesky gimbal limit making me spoil my fun because i dont want to die. B: you can even maintain a missile till pitbull while theres a mountain between you and the baddy. C: the enemy get zero warning from there instruments until the missile pitbulls giving them on average 5-15 seconds to react. All this combined with pretty decent stealth capabilities makes the ghost a bvr MONSTER. Theres a reason why its my most flown plane in game second only to the helo. The only time youll really use the radar is when searching for someone who is radar cold, other than that you're only handicapping yourself having it on.
This is by far my favorite game of all time. The community is awesome because everyone is nice and helps out the new players. I also appreciate that the more serious players are more inclusive than in DCS.

I think VTOL is the easiest way to get casual viewers into watching Flight Sim Content. It’s easier to understand, entertaining, and really immersive to watch.
@@Bomkz good, actually, after hooking it up to my PC wirelessly there isn't any lag on a 1080, very little screendoor effect and the batteries last long enough to get my fill of VTOL in. There are rumours of a Quest 3 coming out soon though, but that just means second hand 2's are gonna be cheap as chips.
If you were going to do that I would recommend the Meta Quest 2 as a starter headset since it's relatively cheap compared to other headsets. VTOL VR also doesn't need a super computer to run since it's very light in graphics.
@@eklodry6495 I use a Quest 2 for VTOL, it works amazingly. Thankfully due to the cockpit setup, your controllers shouldn't ever lose tracking, so it provides a really great experience. The only thing you'll need to worry about is your computer specs, but the Quest 2 itself should hold up just fine.
@@eklodry6495 it works very well. You just have to either setup airlink (which is very cool and Pog) or use a USB-C approved cable to link with your PC. VTOL VR works seamlessly with Quest 2 as well. I usually have my refresh rate set to 120hz and having 2x texture streaming (or 200% however you want to say it) and it doesn't cause many drops in frames on VTOL VR.
I did and have no regret. You don't need a top notch GPU or VR headset for this game. I started with a GTX 1080 and an HTC Vive and it was already great because all the gages are 100% readable even a low res However if you want to switch to DCS, you will need an higher res VR headset (Index or Quest2 minimum) and a much much beefier GPU (RTX3070 minimum in my opinion)
VTOL VR is an absolutely spectacular flight sim. It’s not as pretty or technical as most others like DCS, but the flawless VR immersion greatly outweighs those deficits by a long shot. The Steam workshop is bustling with content as well, and has a fantastic community. My absolute favorite flight sim!!

a few months ago, I was playing VTOL with a live streamer and youtuber (spicy gavino if ur curious) and the creator of VTOL joined the chat. Hes a pretty awesome dude and is evidently very active in the community. This game has got to be the best vr game there is
dynamic liberation is such a good mission :D btw the f45 uses aim-120D amraams which can be guided from the TSD without the need for radar lock. Ideally you should never have to turn your radar on in the f45 and can just guide them in via data link from other planes, or even just your RWR. Yes, you can guide amraams to the target using nothing but the nails they give you. It's borderline cheating
Come play warplanes WW1 fighters VR flare mayhem, it's not a sim but it's the best bfm I've ever seen. If you try it out fly a junkers D.1 with 1/6 armor. Flare Mayhem allows for long and complicated dogfights at very low altitude described by spectators as a dance
Drewski, in the options page on the MFD, you can change the position of the stick from sidestick to centerstick. Personally, I prefer centered This works in all planes except the Av-42c
Buying VTOL VR was one of the best investments I've made. Perfectly balanced between an arcade and a sim. Sim like enough that you actually feel like you're flying a miliary aircraft, and there's always room for improvement (skill wise), but arcade enough that you don't have to spend an hour flipping switches to take off. Best VR game I ever played.

After I saw Vtol, I want this type of interaction with the game in all games. I want to drive the tank like this by pressing the buttons, I want to blow up c4 like this by pressing the buttons on the detonator, I want to shoot javelin, TOW or some M2 like this. We need a Battlefield with this type of control.

So when being tracked by a heat seeking missile, you can just cut throttle and then pop flares to evade. Your afterburner obscures the flares from the missile, so it keeps tracking you.
love seeing this, if you haven't already the modding scene for the game is pretty awesome and they have an easy multiplayer mod now, def enhances the game me n the homies run it all the time.
You can fire the AIM-120 without your radar on, I think it goes trough data link. It only gives your opponent a radar warning when the missile goes Pitbull. It's a good tactic in my opinion. Annoying as hell to face in pvp fights.
Hey Drewski, if you're interested in another type of playstyle to keep the game fresh (while we wait on our lord and savior Baha) I suggest doing some stealth heli missions. Not many people know this, but if you take only the gun on the heli (no other weapons, and no radar) then your rcs becomes the best in the game, and you can fly up to almost any ground target without their radar seeing you. Though enemy aircraft still find ways to detect you sometimes. It's a lot of fun, try it if you can
Hey Drewski! Would be awesome if you did a vid talking about where your eyes are before and during engagements! Sometimes in these vids its hard to spot the things you're talking about and as someone trying to get into VR/Track IR flight Sims it would be cool to learn the thought process you're going through.
I am visually impaired and unfortunately can't read the HUD while flying in this game, so combat is out, but I still bought it just to flip switches, light up the burners and grab that sky. This game is the perfect midpoint between DCS and Ace Combat.
I personally use the center joystick mode since I don't really like the side joystick since I struggle with precision with that joystick, love the videos man keep it going❤

Planes use physics to their advantage, while helicopters BEAT physics into submission.

a few months ago, I was playing VTOL with a live streamer and youtuber (spicy gavino if ur curious) and the creator of VTOL joined the chat. Hes a pretty awesome dude and is evidently very active in the community. This game has got to be the best vr game there is

btw the f45 uses aim-120D amraams which can be guided from the TSD without the need for radar lock. Ideally you should never have to turn your radar on in the f45 and can just guide them in via data link from other planes, or even just your RWR. Yes, you can guide amraams to the target using nothing but the nails they give you. It's borderline cheating
Come play warplanes WW1 fighters VR flare mayhem, it's not a sim but it's the best bfm I've ever seen. If you try it out fly a junkers D.1 with 1/6 armor. Flare Mayhem allows for long and complicated dogfights at very low altitude described by spectators as a dance

Drewski, in the options page on the MFD, you can change the position of the stick from sidestick to centerstick. Personally, I prefer centered

Buying VTOL VR was one of the best investments I've made. Perfectly balanced between an arcade and a sim. Sim like enough that you actually feel like you're flying a miliary aircraft, and there's always room for improvement (skill wise), but arcade enough that you don't have to spend an hour flipping switches to take off. Best VR game I ever played.
I always love seeing your content, but I especially love seeing VTOL VR and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

After I saw Vtol, I want this type of interaction with the game in all games. I want to drive the tank like this by pressing the buttons, I want to blow up c4 like this by pressing the buttons on the detonator, I want to shoot javelin, TOW or some M2 like this. We need a Battlefield with this type of control.

So when being tracked by a heat seeking missile, you can just cut throttle and then pop flares to evade. Your afterburner obscures the flares from the missile, so it keeps tracking you.
love seeing this, if you haven't already the modding scene for the game is pretty awesome and they have an easy multiplayer mod now, def enhances the game me n the homies run it all the time.

You can fire the AIM-120 without your radar on, I think it goes trough data link. It only gives your opponent a radar warning when the missile goes Pitbull. It's a good tactic in my opinion. Annoying as hell to face in pvp fights.

Hey Drewski, if you're interested in another type of playstyle to keep the game fresh (while we wait on our lord and savior Baha) I suggest doing some stealth heli missions.
Not many people know this, but if you take only the gun on the heli (no other weapons, and no radar) then your rcs becomes the best in the game, and you can fly up to almost any ground target without their radar seeing you. Though enemy aircraft still find ways to detect you sometimes.
It's a lot of fun, try it if you can

Hey Drewski! Would be awesome if you did a vid talking about where your eyes are before and during engagements! Sometimes in these vids its hard to spot the things you're talking about and as someone trying to get into VR/Track IR flight Sims it would be cool to learn the thought process you're going through.

I am visually impaired and unfortunately can't read the HUD while flying in this game, so combat is out, but I still bought it just to flip switches, light up the burners and grab that sky. This game is the perfect midpoint between DCS and Ace Combat.

FYI you dont need radar on to fire AIM-120s in the F-45. If you see a target on the TSD you can fire on it.
