Rockwell T2 vs Rockwell 6S Safety Razor (Which is Right for You?)

  • With the recent addition of the Rockwell 6S in the house, I wanted to see which one is right for me. The Rockwell T2 has been a fantastic safety razor for me, it introduced me to my love of adjustable safety razors. In my pursuit to get my favorite shave I have been impressed by the Rockwell 6S but how does the 6S stack up to the T2?

    I picked up my Rockwell 6S (they also have the T2 available now)from the Shave Mercantile here: theshavemercantile.com/

    I have both the T2 and the 6S. The T2 stood out to me immediately as having more blade feel than the 6S. I shaved with the T2 for a few weeks. I love the way it looks, and the TTO mechanism is preferred, but I’ve been drawn back to the 6S. It is just a much more comfortable shave for me. I find that I can shave with the #4 plate on the 6S and get significantly less irritation or nicks than the T2 at even a setting 2.5. I also prefer the slimmer and smaller handle of the 6S. For my hands, it’s more maneuverable and comfortable to hold. I just just did a 4 pass head shave with the 6S, using the number 4 plate and an Astra Superior Platinum blade. I’ve never felt my head this smooth, with very little irritation to boot.

    I have both the 6s and the t2. I love the shave with the 6s. Consistently mild and a pleasure. I purchased the t2 and used it on setting one and I bled less when I had my knee replaced. I was convinced it was defective and sent it back requesting a replacement. I bought it from Shave National and they were kind enough to get me a new one with no support from Rockwell. The replacement is better but still to aggressive for me. I honestly just can’t stand it. Love the 6s. I start with three, next pass 2 last pass 2 or 1. No irritation, no burning no weepers, just a nice no drama shave.

      Oh wow! Thanks for sharing. I hadn’t really considered the T2 as being an aggressive razor at all. I’m glad you found happiness with the 6s

    Thx for the video Greg!
    I had both razors and sold the T2.
    IMO, although fully adjustable can be great, the 6S provided a much much better shave while being Wayyyyy Smoother.
    I tried them both with different blades: Treet, Gilette Platinum, Shark and Feather. On both, I preferred the Gillette and then the shark.

    • @GregTardif

    I have shaved with the 6S and the T2. I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised to discover they shave differently because they work differently. I like both of them. I like the balance of the 6S better because the added weight and being more towards the head make it nicer for tough whiskers. Still, when I want to feel snazzy I will use the T2 and when I want a smoother shaving experience and don’t need to adjust, I will choose a 6S plate.
    I’m going to shave a lot more with both of them and develop this plan.

    Which style of stands do you use for your razor? I have had the T2 for about two weeks now and want to get a stand for it, I've found the original steel Rockwell base on Amazon on sale for 18 CAD, I don't know if I should get it or get a regualar razor/brush stand. I'm concerned that water will collect in the base and cause the razor to rust over time.

    • @GregTardif
      @GregTardif  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. I actually don’t have stands. I will typically take the blade out after each shave and wipe down the razor and leave the tto open or keep a 3 piece torn down to dry out

    Love the lid! I haven't used Treet Carbon blades. Are they sharp? What would be a sort of close comparator that I might know? I have the 6C in 'Gunmetal' and like it. Never tried the T1 or T2 so can't compare. Hope vacay is going well; enjoy!

    Hi Greg! Excellent review of these fine Rockwell razors. I have recently received the 6S and and T2, therefore I am still learning and critiquing them.
    Based on looks, I would say they are both beautiful razors. I have shaved twice with them, and to date have throughly enjoyed both…..
    While they are different, they have both given a very comfortable and efficient shave. I have used a 3-2-1 three pass shave with the T2 and have only used the plate #3 on my 6S so far. Will give another update after a few more shaves.
    Sincerely,

    Great video as always!!! I have both and really enjoy both (the 6S happens to be #1 ranked razor) but overall, Rockwell may not be the snazzy Wolfman’s or Blutt’s or Carbons or whatever but frankly - they shave as good or better than any razor out there! Interested in the TREET Carbon blades, as the TREET Platinum Super Stainless are my #2 favorite blade (Nacet, TREET and the Strangelet are my top 3). Since I enjoy the TREET so much, I will give the Carbons a try too!

    Great one as always! Now I see you getting a 6C! Haha... interesting assessment of the plates, I tend to say that I find the 6S milder than the T2. Merry Christmas, Mr. Tardif 🎅 I personally don't like adjustable razors (except my birth year Slim that I love dearly but seldom use) because they feel flimsy with all the mechanics and dials and moving stuff. I have both the cons for the 6s is to short of handle I have big hands bear paw size. the second con for the 6s why did they go cheap and not make it so it covers the entire blade from side to side? which causes me to nick my self from time to time. the Pros of the 6s it feels great when holding it and the stainless matt finish cleans up great. the t2 I have my in gunmetal love it the only con is it is made from potmetal and in china. the t2 gives me a better shave and the blade does not stick out from either ends of the head and love the TTO design very on par with my Gillette 1950 Fat Boy.

    FINALLY! 😳
    The world can EXHALE… now that Greg Tardif has finally released his Rockwell razors comparison video! 😀
    Good job, brah! 😉👍🏼👏🏼
    BTW, although I don’t own a “6S,” I think you meant to refer to the “T2,” when you mentioned only getting to “level five” with one of them (see 5:52). Am I correct in my assumption? 🤔
    Also, although there may be a ton of guys with INTERCHANGEABLE shaving videos on TH-cam, yours is certainly the QUIRKIEST (in a good way! 😆)
    Finally, do you have a background/job in PRODUCTION? Your AESTHETICS (lighting, composition, editing, etc.) are spot on. Some of these guys videos on here are pure HORROR shows, looking like they were shot in a bunker somewhere, with BAD lighting, half their heads cut off, and inaudible audio to boot! 😳🙄

      I will check out the time stamp later (at the airport) appreciate the kind words. I try to have fun with the videos for sure. As far as background, I don’t have any with camera and lighting. I find the process of making the videos almost more enjoyable than shaving. It’s definitely a passion of mine. Anyone that has the courage to share a video with the world has a soft place in my heart. Image and audio quality levels don’t always mean bad content though. I can’t shave and talk so figured this format might be more fun. Thanks for watching

    I think the finish does have a impact on shave feel. The satin finish of the stainless, if you look under a microscope it will be rough, like a bunch of tiny pockets. That creates a drag or a suction to the face. I believe the manufacturer picks this finish for to reasons, 1. it lowers the cost because there is no man hours spent on polishing. 2. It also hides little imperfections that may be there from the machine process. If you want your 6S polished I know a guy! Another great video Greg.

    • @GregTardif

  • @gregsullivan7408
    @gregsullivan7408 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    IMHO neither are worth the money, because they don't hold the blade in alignment precisely. I first tried the 6C, sent it back, and I now have the T2 - same problem. The razor can feel quite different on each side. It's a blade EXPOSURE problem - not a gap problem - the blade may not be centered, and may even be slightly rotated. (the rotation is more of a 6C issue) Now, I'm beginning to think that just possibly, it's not possible to do any better, unless the razor manufacturer actually makes the blades as well, so they can make the razor & blade mate more precisely. Maybe this issue affects adjustables more than simpler non-adjustables? I certainly don't have this problem with my two VERY cheap Wilkinson Sword & Weishi non-adjustables.
    I'm a little miffed that the TH-cam DE shaving celebrities don't talk about this issue more.
    At this juncture I'm thinking about trying a Henson AL13 mild. (as a frequent shaver, the mild end of the spectrum is more important, and I suspect the tolerance issue becomes more important at the mild end)
    One thing I will say is that both the 6C (I haven't tried the 6S) and the T2 do definitely go very mild - certainly mild enough for me.
