    Had the Karve for a month now, and I use the B plate. Used the Rockwell 6C (plate 5) for years, as it was my only, and the Karve blows it out of the water for me. I just could not get under my nose with the Rockwell, but can with the Karve. Absolutely love it! Sent the Rockwell to my brother.

    I recently bought the 6s and man I've been searching for years lol I've tried the vintage adjustables from fatboy to slim to the sa, as well as the "beginner" razors like the de89, 34c, tech. Got the r41 and though it was efficient it wasn't very comfortable. Last I tried the gamechanger and bought the 2 plates with it and was enjoying that but sold it after I got the 6s. The 6s is the king of razors in my book, efficient enough to take on a full beard but smooth as all hell for everyday shaving. Just wish I knew that 5 years ago, could've saved a few penny's lol

    Love the intro, very 2001 Shave Odyssey. I don’t own a 6s but I do have the Karve with the A plate ( with the C on order) and I can honestly say it’s given me the most enjoyable and irritation free DE shave ever. It’s a good price point for a high end product. Discounting shipping and import costs of course!. You can get 3 1/2 inch and 4 inch handles as well. Fascinating comparison.

    Had both for a couple of years, Karve long handle wide head C plate, I rarely use it, the 6s 4 Plate gets used daily, I sold my collection and only kept those two plus I got another 6s in black, for me, the Rockwell is the best razor on the market, the Karve is a close second.

    Hi Kevy,
    Just watching this again mate. I have owned a Karve stainless with the B, C & D plates that it came with for a while now. I found the C plate quite mild and was surprised to find it had a large blade gap. Lovely razor but not as good as my 6S. The 6S is good whatever blade I put in it whereas the Karve is more blade sensitive. Also I got stung by heavy import tax and VAT making my Karve very expensive!! The karve isn't is good as my Blackbird either. I hope you, Mrs Kevy and Riley are well mate. Take care,
    Dave 😁😁

    What I like about the Rockwell 6S is the flat finish and knurling, which give a firm grip even with wet, soapy hands. And I get a great shave with nearly every blade I've used.

    Great shave Kevy! I love the comparison videos! I have both the 6S and the Karve. I have the B, C, and D plates for the Karve with the 3.5 inch handle. The 6S was my go to for a long time, but my Karve has surpassed it. My go to plate is the C plate, but I do love my D plate for those days that I have a lot of growth. Once again great shave and I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

    Hi Kevy. An interesting comparison shave with two popular and very beautiful razors that are on my wishlist. You made a mess with the blade gaps. The difference between 0.79 mm and 0.85 mm is NOT 6 mm, it is 0.06 mm, which is 100 times less. 😅
    Both razors are winners to you and I am rather surprised that you find both very smooth, even with a relatively large blade gap. Interesting review. Thanks. 💈👍

    The Karve brass razor became available recently and I ordered the brass with the C plate and 3.25" handle. It's slightly shorter than my Rockwell 6S by about 1/8". Great shave and I got it earlier than expected on XMAS eve. I'm buying too many razors lately. The Rockwell 6C (gunmetal) is a beautiful razor and nobody should need another. I fear that I've become a collector!

    Your shoot-out comparisons are always well executed. This one in particular answered many concerns I had over the much hyped Karve. The most obvious contrast was your cost analysis. The 6S is the most cost effective of the two. Brass for a razor has never been appealing to me. Unless the Bradley is available in spun brass (naval brass). The more common brass variation takes on a green oxidation, with the accompanying putrid odor. The Rockwell, is not only a matte stainless, but is included with every plate currently available. I can't see paying the same for a brass razor, and a single plate. The Karve was also decidedly lighter in weight. All else being equal, I believe the 6S would have competed just as well with plate 4. Outside of this comparison, I am still impressed with the Fitjar cream! The combination of cedar & lavender sounds wonderful! I would probably like it to be more assertive in strength rather than subdued. I hope a stockist for North America is on the horizon. I believe that low flying aircraft might have been one of Arthur's R.C. planes. Complete with a Go-Pro to watch ladies snow bathing in their backyards. Today's session was indeed fun. I agree that this Karve still requires testing with other blade types, and shave soaps. The overhang is somewhat off-putting to me, but I'm willing to explore its appointments yet to be revealed. Cheers, Kev for a job well done. Please give my best to your Mrs, and Riley.

    • @kevyshaves4109

      Thanks Alex. I hope I've not put,too many people off with my inaccurate blade gaps! Of course I should have said 0.79mm, not 79mm! The Karve did feel smoother in this shave but you are correct, I need to use it more with different blades. The brass is still putting me off pulling the trigger. The Fitjar creams are really good. They feel like they should belong in some high end shaving shop, real quality. Ha ha, that made me laugh about Arthur 😂 Cheers mate. Kevy 👍😀

    Hi Kevy ... great video. Both The 6S and Karve are my top two razors. The C plate on the Karve is more like a R4 on the 6S, so may want to redo the comparison. R6 is comparable to the Karve D plate. I find the brass to be unique and the patina it forms gives it a unique characteristic. Brass is softer so gotta be careful not to bang the razor (I managed to drop my B plate and corner got dinged but was able to file it back into shape). Will be interesting to see the Karve in SS ... heard titanium was in the plans too. Cheers mate !

I've been using an EJ DE89, a Tech, and a Phoenix Bakelite slant OC for the past few years and each has their particular set of difficulties as well as enjoyment. Obviously you could make it out very special metals but in the end it's the shave quality that counts and everyone's skin type is different. The Karve is great, so is the 6S and the Blackbird and the Outlaw Standard and Mild and the AS-D2 and the Envoy and the Nodachi and the •63 Masamune and the.............
      It would be a very difficult decision that not everyone would agree with 🤔🤔.

    There is no better shave than the Rockwell 6S. Some are as good but I haven't found any better. I unfortunately do not have your unending supply of razors. I wish they had a 7-8 plate though. 6 is enough but more couldn't hurt.

T project has something of the breathless, grand anticipation of a Yul Brynner and a Telly Savalas sporting a perfectly naturally grown shock of strawberry blonde hair! That much likely this project is looking... even if does come to fruition at some point. (For all you know, Yul & Telly might be sporting a bushy hairdo in their current, afterlife, state.)

    Interesting comparison there, Kev. I like both these razors and they both give very nice shaves. I wouldn't have compared the Rockwell #6 plate to the Karve 'C' plate though. I may have chosen a 4 or 5 plate I think. The gaps are hard to judge on their own for efficiency. I may sound a heretic for saying this but I think the Rockwell for me is a little bit more intuitive for some reason. That might just be a matter of more experience with the Rockwell. The Karve is a lovely piece of craftsmanship and I often stand there admiring it for a little before putting it to my face. It's a great shave too...not just a looker LOL.
    Now...talking of Rockwells...have you ordered the 'Model-T' ? I got mine this week and I have to say, the time taken by them to get it right and the hate mail they endured was well worth it. For mine, the best TTO of any type or brand I have ever used. Sturdy, smooth and easy to use. I was pleasantly surprised. It seems as smooth as the 6S in fact (That's a big call I know).
    Great review as always mate...take care :-)

      Hi Mark. I wanted to test them both with similar blade gaps. I think the 6S feels better in the hand for me, maybe because of the weight difference. That's great news about your Model T. I didn't order one just yet, I'm waiting until they get it just right before deciding. But you're description may just have sold me! Cheers. Kevy 👍

      @@kevyshaves4109 Yeah, it's hard to get two configurable razors to be dead exactly the same for gap/exposure balance so I applaud your efforts here.
      Yes I seriously think the Model T is well sorted now. I marveled at the fit and finish when I got it...I was looking for the seam between the doors and thinking ...hmm this is supposed to a TTO, looks like a 3 piece from the top..I twisted the bottom and it opened perfectly LOL.
      The doors are a great fit, the twist action is so well weighted it's a joy to use and the same goes for the adjustment
      wheel..it's very sturdy and won't get nudged out of kilter. I'm glad now they waited to send my pledged purchases at the very end...I got a couple of very nice, well-constructed razors. I think you'll enjoy it, Kev.

    Nice one Kevy. Right off the bat, not a single nick or weeper on the Karve side, and a few on the 6C. 6 more mm of blade gap, and still smoother, so there you go. Truly looking nice that Karve. I wonder how the plates will compare to a Gillette adjustable settings, which I'm pretty familiar with.

    The Rockwell 6S doesn't give the blade exposure, where Karve razor gives both the blade gap and blade exposure. To truly to be able to match the plates evenly you need to know the 6S blade exposure. In my opinion, the 6S "plate 4" is closer to the Karve "plate C". Karve Razors is the only razor manufacture I know of to give both measurements. I have heard people talk about why they don't give blade gap measurements and they say blade gap can't tell a person how aggressive the razor is. What they don't understand is you need the blade exposure to go hand-in-hand with blade gap. The Karve C plate measurements are gap = 0.85mm / exposure = positive 0.09mm. The Rockwell plate 6 has a gap of 0.79 mm but no mention of blade exposure. The 6S plate 6 has a lot more blade exposure than the Karve plate C.

    • @nicetna2010
      @nicetna2010 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Blade gap and blade exposure should be posted by all manufacturers for each model imo. It would not only enable experienced shavers to make better choices but it would also help newcomers decide. Instead, most manufacturers choose not to list those specs in hopes of increased sales, i.e, wrong razor, too aggressive, too mild, etc.

    The knurling pattern on the carve razor looks really nice. I got a sample of the menthol version of the Fitjar cream (called Folgefonn after the glacier). It is okay, but In my opinion the quality and price doesn’t really match. It is one of the most expensive soap brands, but I don’t feel the products fit in as a super high-end product. I also tried a sample of the Fitjar balm, it was a bit on the runny side - it is super expensive but nothing wrong with it.

    Good evening Kevy! I was hoping for a comparison video....and you delivered; just the wrong razors...lol. I do have a Karve CB razor with the C plate and 3 inch handle. It is a vice comfortable shaving razor. I tried a few different blades, vintage and modern, and the best so far has been the Brazilian Gillette Platinum Plus...the BBS lasted 18 hours. The little weeper could be caused by a raised hair follicle...you wouldn't see it by examination with your eyes unless you use a magnifier mirror. Anyway, the blade would cut of the cup of skin from the follicle and a cause the seepage. I don't understand head geometry the best, a bit beyond my ken, but I think the blade gap is misleading. The Karve CB seems to have less blade exposure, therefore leads to more comfort. I find I can shave faster that razor and have little to no blood spilled. It is my considered opinion that is makes for a great daily shaver. Thanks for sharing. Take care.
    PS The 1974 Personna 74 blade has successfully completed 22 (4 pass) shaves...it is the King of the Hill in my den. It has, perhaps, a few more passes left. Goodness only knows.

      Hi Todd. That other comparison vid will be coming soon. I think I might have a Brazilian Gillette platinum somewhere, only 1 if I remember correctly. Maybe it was a raised hair follicle. The Karve seems very smooth to use. I'll use the D plate next and see how that goes. I hope you're going to frame that Personna 74! Have a great weekend mate. Kevy 👍

    • @toddf9321
      @toddf9321 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Kevy! The Brazilian Gillette Platinum Plus blades are good, very good. I can use one for 15 shaves. By contrast, a Feather Hi-Steel blade lasts 3-4 shaves. YMMV. I was going to bring you an original vintage Personna 74 blade sample...still sealed in the factory wrapper. I do hope you use it for more than 4 shaves, but it is yours....I doubt you would enjoy it after shave 12 or so...that is when it drops off noticeably. It still cuts and cuts better than many modern razor blade fresh out the package, but it lost some keenness and you will notice. It has many more shaves left in it, I just use increasingly aggressive razors and it just keep providing BBS shaves. I hope you can push it a wee bit to see for yourself....fantastic blade.

    Sigh..I promised myself I wouldn't get anymore kit until I snagged my next job but...LOL...I just ordered the 3" handled razor with the D plate as well as an 'E' Plate. so now I'll have B-E plates with 3 and 3.5" handles. Something for every occasion hehehe

      @@kevyshaves4109 Yeah ...They do a decent razor I must admit. But yeah. enter the impulse zone and order yourself a Model T. It's astonishingly well made and an incredible shave (on my face at least).

    Hi Kevy! Its been awhile since my last comment. Just thinking that you could have titled your review "The Battle of the Canuck Razors", as both companies are Canadian. Being theatrical, I can see you wearing a Mountie hat (and red jacket if you have one) and ending your sentences with an "eh "as you do your review! Maybe next time if you do another comparison?
    Wasn't in the market for another razor but what can I say, the razor is named Christopher, like me; its made Alberta, Canada, where I live and you gave it a good review. I guess I will have an early Christmas present from myself. I also own the Rockwell 6C and the Parker Variant, based on your previous reviews, so you swayed me again. Based on the blade gap on plate 3 of the Rockwell, which works great for me, I ordered the A plate on the Karve. I see many have ordered more aggressive plates so hope I am correct; guess I can get a more aggressive plate if need be.
    Thank you for all of your great videos. Any plans on updating your top five razors from last year?
    Cheers,
    Christopher Hutchings

      Hey Chris. Ha ha, that sounds like a good video with the Mountie hat! Lol! That's the good thing about the Karve, if you don't feel a plate is working for you, you can order another one. Happy you'll be getting razor made from your own country. Cheers. Kevy 😀👍

    Fantastic shave Kevy!! My favourite razor is the 6s and having been thinking of buying a karve! Did you find the C plate to be more or less aggressive than R6?

    • @kevyshaves4109
      @kevyshaves4109  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It feels a lot smoother than the 6S. You can hardly tell there's a blade in it! 👍

    Hi Chris, Rockwell 6s apart, the best of, which one would you personally prefer between HOMELIKESHAVING Colibri Russia and Karve in Brass or Alu?

    That was a fantastic shave Kevy. I have been looking at the Karve but they are not available at the Moment. I am waiting for my medium Jock brush (hopefully tomorrow) and I will have my 2nd shave with my Envoy with Nacet blade. Also ordered Cella soap today. All this time later, how do you rate the Karve?
    Stay safe buddy!
    Dave. 😁

    Funny about long videos, I usually skip to the last 10 minutes on comparisons. For other long videos I just skip ahead 5 or 10 minutes at a time!

    Hej Kevy, just to give y latest knews for the t-model: No news, money gone far in advance, no shipment yet... My Karve arvd n truly the eyecatcher n has pushed my 6S fm the throne, simply as its yet another stage of comfort, smoothness, the shaveresult vry similar. Cheers.

      I know some people have the Model T and love it. Have they stopped production again? Oooh, the 6S has been toppled from the top of the pile. I liked the Karve but it wasn't as smooth for me as the 6S. Hopefully the stainless Karve will be coming out soon. Cheers. Kevy 😀👍

      My last info they catch up delivery T-model until December, so lets see. Something Is wrong, as they hv been delaying for quite some time. My 6S in fact is 6C chrome, maybe there's a difference btw those 2. Cheers.
