I FAILED At Dynoing The Turbo SHELBY DODGE RAMPAGE But I Did FIX It

  • Ready to see some horsepower numbers out of the Shelby Dodge Rampage sport truck? Wondering if it makes more or less than 150HP after all these years? So was I, but it wasn't meant to happen! I wanted to get a baseline while I sort out the little issues but we couldn't find the hub adapters for the chassis dyno. Still ended up being a productive day, changed the plugs and found a nice rubber valve cover gasket for the truck. Hopefully it's oil leaking days are over.

    If the guy who cloned this Charger /Rampage was able to mount everything like the Shelby. The waste gate control solenoid is on the right inner fender by the strut tower. Chrysler 2.2 turbo was programmed to ramp up boost t o 10psi for a couple of seconds then drop it to 7psi. One old trick is to get a pressure switch and put inline to the waste gate control solenoid. Set the pressure switch to close at 10 to 14 psi. So when the ecm commands the waste gate to pull boost back it can't until the switch closes. Basically the switch will cycle keeping the boost to what ever you set it at. Of course you'll need larger injectors and air charge cooler too for prolong boost above 10psi.

      Timothy Hays you should look in putting a blaster 2 coil in it with good wires I had custom MSD wires cut on my 87 turbo shadow you'll get a noticeable performance boost doing just that on the car.
      Though if you want to go fast you going to have to find turbo 2 block for the better lower end in it.
      Also match porting the head. All you need a Dremel I'm sure the outline on the head and exhaust port should be stained on the head. Pretty easy to do yourself if you don't want to spend professional money. Plus it's more fun doing it yourself...lol

      Turbo 1 hahahaha if you own a turbo Chrysler you have to put the turbo 2 intake head studs and 20 pounds of boost and injectors ,but for the love of God get rid that shitty set up it's cost nothing for that intake and rails

    It’s called a hub dyno.....
    A simple cone filter would be a HUGE gain and sound cool!
    And if you’re planning on running higher than 10# of boost,u need to gap your plugs down from 30 thousandths to 25 thousandths.
    Definetly a cool useful vehicle! I’d love to own it for sure.

    I don't know if you have stumbled upon this or not, but Donovan's Garage (thedodgegarage.com) has some good info on them. They were building turbo dodge vehicles in the early 2000's. They had a relant in the 10's reliably, and into the 9's a few times... and a 12 second turbo caravan. it's a great platform, with lots of potential. Just remember, the weak part is the trans, and if you hammer on it you risk throwing the pin out of the carrier on the back.

    High school pal had the 1984 Daytona Turbo-Z.... dial-a-boost worked well on it, as well as did fitting the 'Off-road' computer which would handle up to 14PSI of boost instead of 10, which was the limitation of the 'stock' computer. At 14 PSI with 500lbs of people in the car it STILL dusted mildly built 5.0L Rustangs... Also, you can readily improve transmission: we turned down a replacement pin in auto-shop class out of a grade 8 bolt to remove a bunch of the slop etc. It worked quite well! Had I not rear-ended his car shortly after our senior year was over, It would have still been on the road for a while longer...

    Your valve cover was likely leaking due to pressure being built-up in the crankcase, via clogged PCV or vacuum hoses.
    You can use a product called "high-tack gasket sealant" for the problem with the gasket placement, instead of the silicone or whatever that stuff was.

  • @cody900
    @cody900 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Thats 5x100. Not 5x115. They didn't even make those wheels in 5x115. Also there are 2 different styles of valve covers. one piece and 2 piece gaskets. 2 pieces are the old style valvecover. 1 piece are new style. U more than likely have a 2 piece gasket which used silicone and the rubber ends from factory. The one piece has a deeper channel for the 1 piece gasket and is only for it. Using a 1 piece gasket on a 2 piece valve cover will more than likely break it at the corners of the valve cover...

      Yeah you have the wrong gasket. And it will crack over time even hand tight. What you really want is Mopar performance silicone. If you clean it well and lay it on right, it will seal extremely well. It won’t leak a drop. It will literally suction cup onto the head. I promise. Mopar Silicone.

    The cork gaskets work good as well but if u over tight one bolt that's enough for a leak but I'll go with the rubber too is way easier but for some cars is hard to find the rubber gasket I have a '87 Nissan d21 with Z24 so is a mission to find parts lol

    • @SillyDillysTunes
      @SillyDillysTunes 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tuka Mote the rubber is for the later valve covers. They have a channel designed for it to fit into. He has an old style valve cover. The gasket will crack the valve cover over time. Even hand tight. He needs to use Mopar Performance Silicone. It works absolutely perfect.

    If you can't find a 3/8" ratchet, you seriously need to buy more tools. I have like 10 of those of varying quality and features. Or maybe you just need to organize your tools. In all honesty, not being able to find a tool when you need it is amateur hour.

    This will show you how to build the Grainger valve to control your boost. I built one for mine and it worked great. You can also buy them in a kit here, turbododgeparts.com/html/grainger_valves.html.

      @@WatchJRGo Salty comment gets shut down lol. You have some cool new classics! You know people will finally wake up about the Fiero when the mid-engine Corvettes are out. The damned thing had a modular body panel system, so updating the style is literally bolt-on. That rumor about engine fires was just that. The actual statistics are on par with industry averages.
      Think about buying a salvage 3.4l engine and harness, preferably the turbo version. Same 60 degree block, direct bolt-in, but two incarnations above the 2.8. Hold on to that car, they're about to finally get more popular.
