    Thank you. You're definitely one of the best distance teachers, I've been having this issue for a lot of time and I was unable to fix it even though I had vocal coach with me, but finally someone who really helps. You've earned yourself a like, favourite and a subscribe. Cheers!

    This is great! Easy to do and hard to do incorrectly. I feel my jaw getting much looser already and I like the sound I'm making.

    Interesting lesson, and I like the way you teach after looking at lots of your videos.
    My jaw tends to get tense when going higher in my range. It would have been good to see you demo at higher pitches.

      Same here. Lower jaw gets tensed when going high. So depressed. :(

    ❤ I stumbled across your channel. And like another comment I too have TMJ so it makes it kind hard to open jaw and relieve tension. I have been trying your method and it really works. Thanks so much

    Marnell! I'm going to follow you some more. I have an odd problem, a Vestibular Disorder, that is unspecified but which leaves me with "rocking Vertigo" 24/7 and screaming tinnitus, etc. I decided to try and teach myself to wiggle my ears, to help with some of the symptoms (I don't expect to learn this, but maybe inadvertently relax or strengthen my temporalis muscles?). I was just watching music videos, and happened upon your video. TMD may also be a factor, so when you mentioned the TMJ expert, I thought, maybe I can cure my awful symptoms and become the better-controlled singer I always wished to be. If I stumble on something, you might get rich with me. Or richer. You'll get rich teaching as well as you do.

    I have TMJ and it makes singing with ease kind of difficult for ME. I tried this exercise for the last thirty minutes and it has proved very hard. Like teaching an old dog new tricks, I reckon.

    Hi Marnell!
    First of all I wanted to say thank you so much for your videos. I'm not looking to be a professional singer, just hoping to sound decent when singing happy birthday or streaming the guitar, and your videos have helped a ton. I just had a quick question, regarding jaw exercises. I have a small mouth, but a extremely long tongue and on top of that, my jaw tends to lock (and crack) when I open it wide. Soon I'll be wearing a night guard to correct this issue as much as possible, but for now I was wondering if you had any techniques or exercises I could practice so my jaw can open more freely and naturally, instead of forcing it. Also, in what ways can I place my tongue so it won't be bothering me when I sing? Like I mentioned before, it's a struggle every time I open my small mouth, but my tongue is all over the place...
    Once again thank you so much for taking your time to do these videos to help others!

      Veronica Valdivia Thanks so much for the feedback! When it comes to the jaw, it's hard to say exactly what is going on without being able to see you. Having a small mouth is not a problem; feeling the jaw lock and/or crack when you open it IS a problem, though. That indicates either there is too much tension in the jaw muscles and/or that your jaw is misaligned.
      You can try this for now. Get an apple, and try to take a big bite out of it. Stop before your teeth actually sink into the apple. Try to hold this position for 30 seconds. When you do this, you will likely feel the jaw muscles fighting against you. This is normal. As you continue to hold the position, you will start to feel the muscles relax. The muscles in your cheeks might feel a bit sore after doing this.
      NOTE: THIS SHOULD NOT BE PAINFUL. It may be uncomfortable, but shouldn't be painful!!!
      Take your time with this exercise. You are trying to gradually coax your body into this new position. If you can successfully manage to do this exercise without causing yourself pain, then try a few more sets of this. You can do this several times per day.
      Let me know if you have further questions.

    Love this! Thanks for all your videos! I have a really small tongue, like when I stick out my tongue you can only see like and 1.5" of it if that. Think its because I have a really tight frenulum of my tongue. Does that change these exercises at all? I feel like I can open my mouth wider if my tongue isn't sitting right behind my teeth.

    Do u ever want to open horizontally while singing?

  • @Jur1986

    Hi there Marnell. I love your video's. I had many singing lessons before but they we're never as eye opening as these are. I had a question tho. Opening the jaw and tilting the head like this... how do you implement that while singing and the pronounciation of words? Or is this simply an exercise for the muscle memory so that it goes automatically when singing? Thank you. Greetings from Holland

    • @VocalLiberation
      @VocalLiberation  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      dossantosjurien77 Thanks for watching! :)
      Generally speaking, you would only go into this position when you're singing an open vowel like AH, AA (as in "cat"), or AW (as in "law") on a SUSTAINED note. You would also go into this position if you are singing some type of melodic pattern entirely on a vowel, as shown in the video.
      I've found if your tendency is to normally hold your mouth relatively closed while singing, it initially takes some conscious effort to remind yourself to open like this. You would have to practice the trouble lines of a song one at a time to really get this down. The, after you've CONSCIOUSLY practiced this in song, it begins to happen more automatically.
      If you are uncertain about anything, feel free to ask.

      Marnell Sample Thank you for explaining. I'm practicing like crazy and I noticed some improvement. I just have so many bad habits, there's just no other but to eliminate them by constantly repeating these exercises. Never knew that "unlearning" is harder than actually learning. I will get back to you if anything!

    When I start singing my jaw tilts... Can you tell me any exercise or any technique to keep it alright... It becomes difficult to record videos with a tilting jaw

    • @VocalLiberation
      @VocalLiberation  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tilts? What do you mean? It moves sideways? If so, you will likely need to see a manual therapist about that. Some type of soft tissue therapist that is very familiar with the jaw and upper cervical spine.You will want to have both areas assessed and any restrictions in the tissue released.

    what do you do for fitness? you have a really good upper body

    • @VocalLiberation
      @VocalLiberation  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Me? Great upper body? Ha! I don't do that much now other than pull ups on occasion and sometimes diamond pushups with my hands positioned closer to my waist rather than under my shoulders. I tend to focus more on strengthening the legs and hips more than anything. So squats and deadlifts.

    • @metallicaJee
      @metallicaJee 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      nice traps and great posture, probably because of the deadlifts!
