Are you talking about what he used to get the agitator off? That was just a ratchet with a 11mm socket and 12 inch extension. If you are asking about what he was begging on with a hammer, I didn’t do that part. Mine is situated in a tight closet, and I couldn’t disconnect power, so I was really scared. I was gonna electrocute myself Or damage the motor parts, which im sure my landlord wouldnt be happy about. And honestly once I got the top white lid off, You can see inside the basket. Mine really didn’t look or smell that bad. It had really just been the agitator, and what was under it.

I am in the process of trying to replace the tub seal. I used a drill to cut off the nut, a chisel to pry off the washer, and a pair of needle-nosed pliers to remove the o-ring. The tub won’t come off. I am not giving up yet. As a bit of constructive criticism, Scott, this is a great video. Step by step it shows what to do (for the most part). BUT...#1...wasn’t easy to get the agitator off. Needed and extension rod for the socket wrench (small detail but would have been good to be reminded of before starting), and #2...regardless of whether or not you were able to repair this appliance, it would be good to follow up with what you did or didn’t do. I finally read the comments and it helped to know that I wasn’t alone, but it would have been even better to have that information as it applied to this visible example. Just an observation. I appreciate the information it did relay, though, so thank you.

Now if the machine is any where over 3 to 4 years old... And I have done many
Get a cheap grinder and a cutoff blade. You can see the spanner nut is screwed on to a square shaft. Cut the nut at one of the points over the flat area of the shaft
A few unit I worked on the transmission was bad because the seal leaked and the bearing was noisy...Bad however for the best because the inter spin basket would not come out. I had to take the cut off wheel, and (after removing the whole unit from the washer cut the transmission apart. Take the inter shaft out of the square shaft and then cut the square shaft flat with the metal on the spin basket
Then take a Saw Saw and cut (from the hole left from the inter shaft) the square shaft in 2 places as to take pressure off the spin basket. The beat the shaft out.
    Spin basket are over $200
If it were not for Friends and Family I would tell them to replace the whole machine.
Be sure you can get the washer apart before you order the parts or you may get so deep that you are throwing good money after bad

Is there a part two that would then show how to deep clean the drum? I find the sides of the spin basket that I can see from above (haven't taken anything apart yet) are super grimy, and even though I wipe what I can reach that obviously isn't enough to really clean it, and my clothes sometimes seem to still have soap (I use less than what the detergent bottles say to but still maybe too much) or something greasy on them.

The spin basket hub is very long so it gets seized up. Need to clean out the little holes and soak tons of rust buster. Need car jack to get it up. The whole tub needs to come out to replace the tub seal from the bottom.

  • @blackwater7183
    @blackwater7183 5 ปีที่แล้ว

Im in the same predicament. I had to break the hub washer using a drill to weaken it and pry/break off the pieces with a flat head screw driver and hammer. It's aluminum so it's easy to break. I figured to just buy a new one since there was no way that hub nut was coming off I even used an impact drill and a 1 11/16 socket to no avail. I'm still trying to get the spinner basket off I think the gear/star looking hub after the aluminum one might still be holding it in place.

I did not take his advice to replace the outer tub. (too expensive!) I removed the outer tub, turned it upside down and took off the plate that the motor and transmission are mounted to. The old seal came out easily and the new seal fit. A lot of work! I hope it lasts1

But what do you do if the basket won't come loose from the tub? This seems to be the main issue with older units. Is there a chemical or solution that can be used to dissolve this calcium "cement"? Mine is stuck and no amount of twisting or pulling is going to get it out of there. As you stated its basically wielded together. If there's no way to dissolve this corriosion, it will have to be forced off somehow and will probably crack the basket. I see no other alternative. Help please...

Hey there have a GE stackable where washer won't spin/agitate.
Had GE Tech come out. They ordered a new tub assembly with transmission/motor/sensor/tub etc... They installed it yesterday and still have exact same problem.
Put into spin test, you see actuator drop gears into place then just sits there with pump running then after they come together a few seconds later it just stops and spin light blinks with blocked motor code.
So all along this might not have been a bad motor/speed sensor.
What else could this be that would cause the washer not to engage in agitate/spin? Computer board? Bad wiring harness in some place? Lid does lock and red light comes on but could it think lid isn't locked in some way?
They ordered a new board now. This is getting absurd. Just not sure why this is so hard to diagnose.

Neither I or a certified technician could get the tub off on mine. I had to order a whole new assembly. Even after I installed the new one and got the unit working, I fooled with the old assembly for weeks off and on using a variaty of methods including air hammers, etc, and never could get it appart. A very poor design in my opinion.

Modern appliances suck. When I was a kid we had the same appliances for a decade and then the parents gave them to the kids when the grew up and they used them for another decade. a few years ago I had a new washer and the factory didn't install a hose/retainer clamp on a pump and it caused the pump to fail. A couple years later I had a new/barely used stack unit stop drying. It was an inexpensive repair but, come on man.
My latest is what brought me here. Another 5 year old stack unit with a clunky noisy spin. I'll open it up and take a look but unless it's something easy, I'll probably just but a new one
