Hemsin have 'Slavic features' and were banished from the USSR? What?? The Hemsin are Armenians that settled in the region many hundreds of years ago! Christian Hemsin actually fled to the USSR. There were already Hemsin in southern Ukraine and Russia in the 19th century. They were active in many trades, but most famously in the confection industry. Perhaps some muslim Hemsin fled the USSR, but to say they as a people settled in the area because they were driven out by the Soviets is just plain wrong.

They have dark skin because they are exposed to more sun rays than urban people. They live in the village. They are out to farm or to graze their animals. There are Muslim Armenians in the Black Sea region of Turkey, but their numbers are very few. The majority of the population in the Black Sea region consists of Turks. After the Turks, the population of Laz and Muslim Georgians is more. Hemşins mostly live in the region called Hemşin, which is where they get their name from.

@@ZeRo-bx7lp As far as I know they are most likely closer to Pontic greeks who moved to the Black Sea Coast and adopted Islam in the 1700s. They traditionally spoke Romeyka which is the closest language to what ancient Greek would have sounded like. Some of them could also be related to south slavic Illyrians people. They look nothing like Kurds but their pale skin and light eyes could suggest they are possibly distantly related to Chechen or Dagestani people who mixed with Turks. Kurds are closer to the Balochi people in Pakistan/south Iran.

The Hemshin do not have “slavic features”, they’re Muslim Armenians who were not “banished from the USSR”, they’re native to where they live.
Kackar name comes from Khachkar (meaning stone cross in Armenian) yet this documentary purposely left that out.
Also that bridge in Rize was made prior to the existence of the Ottoman Empire. Not “built by the ottomans”

At the very least, you should give a historical background:
The name Kaçkar (from Armenian khachkar (Խաչքար) literally meaning "cross stone") may be used in various senses. It may describe the whole mountain range, including the many mountain groups, or it may just describe the Kaçkar-Kavron group with its highest peak, or just the highest peak itself. The local name of the highest peak or its mountain group Kaçkar Dağı translates to Kaçkar Mountain, and the name of the range Kaçkar Dağları translates to Kaçkar Mountains.
