@@diabeticmonkey the solution is simple but the technique is difficult. Simply, you must push a lot of air through your windpipe or your voice will crack and you'll sound pubescent. The difficult part, however, is the awareness of when you're entering the pisagio range. It's different for everyone and especially hard to remember to push that air through when you're going so damn hard on the bass.

Thundercat, for me, is one of those rare bassist that has one of those compartmentalized brains that can sing while playing complex riffs and bass lines; I only put a few in this 'elite' category -- Esperanza Spalding, Mishell Ndgeocello, etc. I intentionally don't include the likes of Sting, etc. since I don't consider his bass lines as necessarily complex. Thundercats fretwork, while staying on point vocally, is truly impressive ...

I've noticed that sometimes in videos like this he can do both at the same time pretty well, but in some slightly older live sets I've watched, he skips a lot of playing when he's singing. It's definitely something he's good at but it must still take a lot of concentration for him.

I was lucky enough to see this legend in concert. It was one of the best shows I’ve ever been to.
the mix of the the metronomic drums, the "take five" esque piano part, and all framed with thundercats grooved out funky jazzy bassline and bizzare bass chords, makes this version of this song so good❤️❤️❤️

This is why I love Thundercat, cause all of his live performances of songs are so different from one another. Like sometimes they'll just go ham on a song live, and then play it mellow af another time. Like I feel like this is one of those bands that is far better live than on albums.

theyve all three been playing together for quite a while if im not mistaken. Saw these three play years ago in denver opening for flylo and I probably enjoyed it more than flylo, absolutely world class musicians man.

I have been around music for 50 years now, have seen and played with some great bass player through the years, but I have never seen a bass player who could play intricately complex and composite rhythms while singing and on top of that NOT looking at the positioning of his fingers for a single moment...WOW....that is impressive. This is a person with a very high IQ obviously. -respect-
Not only is he a disturbingly good bass player but his actual bass is so cool. His is the only one like it I’ve ever seen.

If i did what 'feels right' I wouldn't have a wife or two children... Thundercat displaying socks and sandals provides far more credible material for taking to the wife for social permission in future outings.
