The engineer mixed their sound as if they were a Kenny G. smooth jazz band, when Thundercat's overall sound is experimental/jazz-fusion/electronica.,. Not trying to shit on the engineer, but there's a way of mixing different styles of genres. And this mix didn't fit this genre.
If you listened to other live performances of this song, the drums are a bit open and out, and not heavy. I think the isolation panel over the kit may have dampened the tones a bit too much.

It’s actually kinda cool, piano strings with start making sounds if other sounds happen around them. Next time you’re by a grand piano, try singing a note into the strings as loud as possible and you’ll hear them start “playing” the note back
i bet one hundred dollars an artist who has the power thundercat has, does not do work he does not feel implied to do, so this live would probably have his ideals and interests at top, I believe the fact of the mix being dropped this particular way is due to the fact theyre playing more acoustic vibes and having the HARMONIES and the music at top not just loud sounds and I really thank them for priorizing the quality in music and not just bullshit we get everyday
