Because the news was in all the other media when the paper was published in 2015. Huge news at the time. The Smithsonian has a page on it from December 2018. The only reason for using the present tense in the video description is for clickbait.

Amazing. Not sure if I'm blessed or cursed to live during a time where everything I've learned in life is to be questioned, redacted, or corrected. The narrow passage must have been a good barrier to predators since even a saber cat couldn’t pass through the cave passage.

No paintings. Too old. No signs of fire so far. The first chamber discovered with bones contained owl remains and some rat remains but that was it. at other locations easier to get to more animal bones have been found.

This is a great find of humanoids from 300,000 years ago, and there have been other discoveries of earlier humanoids from 600,000 years ago in deep cave systems. The gigantic question is... how did these early species of humans see in these underground caves 10's and hundreds of meters in total darkness when man-made(control)fire wasn't invented yet?

In Egypt there are these long snaking underground corridors. Researchers have wondered how they saw anything down there. People usually suggest torches but first of all there is no ventilation down there so mining it out is dangerous enough without torches, and with torches it would burn up the remaining oxygen extremely quickly.
But torches seems to be a little dismissed anyway as long term torch use should have left permanent soot marks in the low ceiling, and there are none anywhere in the tunnels.

Making it sound like this will change everything is a bit misleading. Every piece of information is like finding another piece of the puzzle. Sometimes we have several pieces that fit together, but we're not exactly sure where that group of pieces goes. We don't have the full picture to work off, but the more pieces we find, the clearer it all becomes. Some pieces confirm what we already thought. Some pieces cause us to stop and tweak our ideas.
True, just like the shape of the universe suddenly changed with new information. Even the hard sciences get flipped over from time to time, so it's not strange that anthropology is always...ahem, evolving
I think youre underplaying this one. this one is a real shocker. to find something so relatively young with such a weird combination of archaic and modern features. it makes you second guess a lot of things. Its like finding a piece of the puzzle so odd that it makes you realize that a lot of the way youve been putting the puzzle together was wrong.

Anthropology was my favorite subject in college too. I was more interested in the cultural side but the physical artifacts are also part of that.
I remember taking phys-anthro and starting it, not thinking I would particularly enjoy it. Turns out, it was very interesting, and I did enjoy it! One of the more memorable courses..

I don't get why giant humans would be such a stretch to believe. The fossil record shows that pretty much everything once came super-sized...tortoises, cats, frogs, bears, mammoths, birds, bugs, etc. Why not humanoids? Not saying that it happened that way...but I wouldn't be at all surprised if it did. I'm open to the evidence.

Just because we haven’t found something, doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. Also, the vast majority of what has lived before us has long since decayed. Fossils require special conditions to form.

Yeah a lot of scientific news you hear will actually have been discovered awhile ago. They take time to make sure they got all the details of the findings and make sure their accurate before they publish the findings to the rest of the world.

@@pentirah5282 The work is ongoing. Thanks to the ALL female crew that was trained to do this very difficult work, more discoveries are being made at the cave, more remains are being found. Each fragment is being examined. What is truly game changing is the fact that Dr. Burger has insisted that other branches of science, other university teams, be included in the research. This is VERY different, as in the past paleoanthropologists have been VERY secretive about their work. The usual way of doing things is to keep every thing top secret, and let NO ONE know what's going on. So what ever remains would be found would be held in private labs, available to only a small group of researchers. Who would hoard the remains to themselves for years, doing whatever research they wanted , away from public eyes. Any information found would be carefully doled out to a select few with an eye dropper. Students of those researchers might be granted access to learn more, but only under strict conditions.
Dr. Burger organizes teams of students to come and investigate, he sends samples off to labs all over the world, he invites researchers to come and observe. He wants many qualified researchers applying their disciplines on these remains, to find out as much as possible, and to SHARE that information. Many of his fellow anthropologists are furious with him for opening up the research like that, for removing the more secretive , closed aspects of the profession. They seem to be all in a huff to have the "mystique" of the profession removed.
This whole project is absolutely amazing. If it was being run by another professor, NONE of the info would be available to the public. No one would be allowed to share the info, there would be no chance for students of other universities to have access for YEARS to even COPIES of the remains. All the info would be confined in the pages, EVENTUALLY, of very obscure professional journals that the public don't read. It would be written in VERY technical terms that only another experienced anthropologist would understand.
Dr. Burger and his team are doing their best to bring all of us into the cave and laboratories along with them. Because THIS story is about all of us.

I remember reading about that discovery years ago when it happened.
There are still in Indonesia on Sumatra human like creatures called „Orang Padang“ living in the Jungle. Lokals know them because they are stealing very often food from them. These Orang Padang are bipedal and not bigger than around 1m or 3 feet high. Don’t forget the Yowie in Australia or the Sasquatch. Those creatures are 10 to 12 foot high, thats from 3 to 3,6 meters high and full of muscles. Those creatures exist in Scotland, England, Scandinavia, Poland, in many countries of the ex USSR, and Asia. Hundred thousand of sightings were made and reported.

@@redfishcam8328 To the best of my knowledge, typhonic consciousness is the second of 8 (9?) levels of consciousness, a stage at which humans are just starting to see themselves as separate from the rest of the animals of the world. I think it's associated with Earth worship or possibly paganism... but I could be very wrong here.
Bicameralism is, again, about early stages of consciousness, and refers to the mind as conversing with itself.

@Pat Ashley The title of the book doesn't ring a bell. The information I'm recalling is from a psychology class that I took many, many years ago, in college. Hence, my faulty memory could be leading me down a wrong path.
I find it interesting that a logic professor would be the one to have you read something along these lines. It seems sort of removed from the rules of logic, actually.
@Pat Ashley I dunno about the deduction that gods existed because many cultures had god myths. Multiple civilizations around the world built pyramids, independently of each other. Does that mean anything significant? Not necessarily. It could just be because the pyramid is very structurally stable.
Now if these civilizations around the world and throughout history had all independently come to worship the *same* god(s), THAT would be interesting.

I'm 74 and have always believed differently from most because My Mother was an avid Reader and studied all she could find about ancient history and she started me on the road to skepticism of what I was being taught in school about our beginnings and now I know she was on to something and I really enjoy these videos of scientists with open minds finding more truths instead of what some religions want us to believe. Intelligent Free Thinkers will find what we need to know about our past.
They have made this theory of evolution a religion. They only look for evidence that goes with there theory and if one finds evidence against this theory they disregard it.

An average sasquatch is between 7 and 9 feet tall but there have been reliable reports of 12 - 14 footers. Especially in Canada and Alaska where the weather is colder and competition (Grizzlies, Kodiak bears) is bigger. There are more out there than most think there are (the ones who believe or know they exist). Wouldn't be surprised if the Smithsonian had a few Forest People bones kicking around.
