Achieve $50k-100k perfection and beauty for commoners with a tight budget like me. those videos were enjoyable as they were depressing because it sets too high a bar that's difficult to achieve.
Your no-fuss simplicity in house reno thats practical , down to earth and achievable for simple ppl is really refreshing and exquisitely palatable.
Realised now that i dont ever want to see those expensive renos that do not serve the budget nor the paractical realities of hdb living of the regular citizen here.

Hi Elvi! We didn't do false ceiling in the living room; our contractors rewired the location of the lighting/electrical point to the location we wanted 🤔 So we could conceal the wiring inside the ceiling

Ah, yes got fingerprints- easy to clean but we don’t do it frequently because we open/close the DB box daily, so no point 😅 Not the best, but for us the convenience > fingerprints cos more practical :)

I used an embossing label maker (?) I got from Taobao for $8, but there are very similar ones from shopee too! There’s a short snippet of me using it in my rehoming ingredients vid if you’re int. I think it shd be waterproof, but I find that the adhesive is not strong enough tho :( I use force/add double-sided tape to make stick better if needed 😊 item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=566960148878

would you recommend ceiling fans in all the room?
Yes! If you're not using storage bed frames (like ours), platforms, or anything that would reduce the distance between the floor/ceiling. Takes up less space than standing fans.

For the double soap dispenser in the kitchen, what volume does each container store? Is it the same as the usual refill packs that are sold at fairprice? 2 years on, would you still recommend it?
Hey Jaya, thanks so much for your sweet comment 😊 In case this is still relevant for you- each container can hold more than 225ml (dettol hand wash refill pack size), so Im guessing around 300ml. However we've to split our dishwashing refills (500-600ml) as it's not sufficient. It drips occasionally but it's not an issue for us, and yes, I'll still recommend it :)

Hey Wan Lin, mine’s siligranite from Blanco :) No heavy stains for ours after 1.5years, and we clean it about once in 1-2months. However we don’t rly leave stains there for too long and wash it off with water as soon as we see them. Hope this helps 😊

~57K (37K reno + 20K FFE); yeah hacked a half wall for the kitchen. Thanks, we try to keep our surfaces as empty as we can :) No carpentry in living room mainly because we wanted to keep it clutter-free, and partly because of the $ savings!
how did you get your hubs to do all the cleaning?
Have a lower standard of hygiene than him and maintain that standard until he cannot tahan 😁

hello! Not sure if it's still helpful for you- We spent ~37k incl electrical, carpentry, tiling etc and excl furniture, fittings and appliances, but this was pre-COVID times. We had an ID but sadly he wasn't very helpful at that time haha. Hope your reno went/goes well!

Yes for me, borderline yes for my husband. Context: it has 3 speeds; 1 is too weak / 3 is too strong and turns the fan into a propeller that can take off anytime. We only use speed 2!

Hi.. i have the same layout and just got my keys. I have yet to engage a contractor yet. My question is on the kitchen. Initially was yr kitchen totally enclosed (is your layout showed its bolded - structural wall that r not suppose to hack?) If yes, did u get hdb approval yrself to hack partial of yr entrance kitchen and install the mirror or the renovation company needs to apply approval to hack? I wish to hack partial of that kitchen wall but unsure it can. Thks in advance.
Hey! For the kitchen:
- Wall facing living room at kitchen entrance: not bolded/structural wall, could hack partially after obtaining hacking permissions from HDB;
- Wall between bomb shelter and kitchen: bolded/structural wall, cannot hack :( So we couldn't have an open kitchen with this unit.
Hope this clarifies and that you can have the kitchen you've in mind! :)

Hello Shiyi! Hm... I’ve mixed feelings towards it. So far they’ve been quite OK and there were no stains, chips or impressions on the countertop.
However it feels kinda hollow (?) and empty. When I slam bread dough on the counter, everything on the table kinda just jumps up lol.
Overall I’d prefer a countertop material that’s thicker/feels more solid if we can find one that’s as pretty as this Kompacplus 😁

Hi. May i check if your toilet wood looking tiles are the same as your living room? Do you have the name of the toilet tiles?
Different tiles :) Both are from Hafary, and the common toilet floor tiles are called Essential Beige. There isn't a code/serial#, so I'm not too sure if this is the correct one: www.hafary.com.sg/collection/Tiles/Ariana-Ceramica-Essential-Beige-Rt-2026?image=11314
