- The S5 is taken to a new level by Audi for 2021. Under the hood is a 3.0L V6 producing 349 & mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. On the outside the sportback has a great shape, unique wheels, front fascia and rear bumper. On the inside you will find the 10in infotainment screen, 12in virtual cockpit, and upgraded seats. Those wheels look great!. All sedans on the market should come as sportbacks or fastbacks or liftbacks or whatever they're called. The great look of a sedan AND significantly increased practicality.

I literary bought mine on Thursday grey Daytona with the red leather interior. It's freaking amazing. The technology is second to none. love it!

What a gorgeous car. I especially love the wheels. And I dig hatchbacks and wagons, so I love the design of the sportback. My only zonk would be that Audi doesn’t do a better job hollowing out the cargo area. It seems like the interior walls could be recessed some to give owners more cargo room.
My personal favourite Audi ❤️ all of them are so beautiful to look at everytime 🤤 especially with the Sportback version

Totally agree with everything you said here! One thing I'd like to mention though is how much better the other stitch pattern is for the seats (imo) than these ones. I picked up this exact car a few months back and I think the seats in my model change the entire vibe on the inside of the car. Although I don't believe they come with cooled seating, the stitching is definitely the first thing most people notice once they get inside. Just a thought for anyone looking to pickup this car :)

Thanks Joe. What a car. I have a 2013 Audi S5 cabriolet prestige and I still love it today. I agree, I don't like the rectangle infotainment center sticking up off the dash on the new cars. Mine is quite small but built into the dash. My zonc on mine is it's not touch screen. My wife just drove over 1,000 miles round trip in it from CA to OR and back and I felt safe that she was in an all wheel drive with traction control... The 2021 is awesome. Joe is reviewing an Audi! I’m there. This S5 is gorgeous. It’s an Audi, what did you expect? I Love Audi’s so much that I bought one. I even like the look of the side of the building. That Audi treatment on the wall next to you. Their design language is second to none. The other two German rivals can’t touch what Audi is dishing out. There is a look to the inside & the outside of an Audi that separates them from the rest of the pack. Joe, you are the Energizer car guy on TH-cam. If you want to keep up with Joe’s car reviews then you better get up early and get movin! He will keep you on your toes with new products nonstop. How fast will the rip to 500K be? Congratulations again on the staggering Sub #’s!

Great car. Engine sound is puuuuuurfect when driving. Maybe replace my M340 with this in a few years. Love the trunk space, very usable.
Test drove an S5 yesterday. Only had room for one package of M&Ms in the center console but that’s enough for me. I was driving so fast I needed both hands on the wheel anyway. Love this car!

Like how Audi avoids the extra hood cut line. Super clean. They also have the best rims.
Have had mine for a month and it’s just an all around amazing car. From a launch it will eat up V8s. At 137 it was smooth as butter
This is probably one of the best car around. Great value for money, aesthetically outstanding, spot-on engine.
Such a shame that TDI is the only engine available on this one in Europe.

I had a 2014 S4 and loved it, miss it. Next year I might go back to Audi with the S5. Worth the money? Absolutely. Powerful, beautiful and practical.

I love these! I’ll probably upgrade to this from my s3 in a few years. My only complaint is that you can’t get the ventilated front seats with the red interior.

Great review of a great car. I wish you were able to run more of your driving sessions at the Audi roundabout circuit vs the high traffic areas in the Bay Area. I know right where you are driving and it is a great place to drive.

MY18-19 preowned S5 are great deals if you don’t mind the lack of touchscreen and other things
I think the 2018 model has a better interior. My mom has a 2019 Q5 with it, and I got used to it and enjoy it. But at the end of the day, I'd go A6 or A8L instead.
@@snakeeyes9246 Agree, I think the 18 is nice with flat bottom wheel (though not heated). The swivel wheel can be easier to use when driving.
Interesting choices! I like the A6 too with the dual touchscreen and unique interior. But why A6 or A8 over A4/5 or A7? Different car size to S5
I wish they would have kept the rotary knob with that new touchscreen.

Bang for the buck you can't beat the S5 Sportback. Mine was a fantastic daily driver and even installed a hitch on it so I could take my road or mountain bike with me on trips. It more than holds it's own even on some of Malibu's most technical canyon roads as well ( Just make sure to swap the crap OEM Conti's for Michelin PS4 )

I’m loving the S5 Joe, you are right on the money. I to as well would Zonk that infotainment I wish it could of folded down like the previous model, the plastic back seat with the fishing net and front lower air intake big big Zonk. Maybe the RS5 might be better, however exterior wise it is Sexy..... great job bro, thanks for the assistance with the Cam Lori.

Touché! I love my 2018 S5 so much that I come back here to watch reviews of the similar North American spec S5. We’re stuck with a TDI based B9.5 here in Britain & Europe. That was definitely a mistake from Audi as Diesel is now so widely discouraged by European governments. I think the next generation will reverse that decision, presumably a petrol mild/full hybrid? The SQ7 has discreetly switched to a petrol unit recently.
The 3.0T engine is a peach, mine has a stage 1 map pushing around 410hp and does a 3.81 0-60mph and a 12.2 standing 1/4, which is pretty close to the RS5.
Great review, and now another day where I’m itching to go for a drive!
I have a '19 S5 quantum grey S/B and I really like it. The sportback is really attractive... gets lots of compliments. The *only* thing I dislike is the small-ish fuel tank; I believe it's ~15.3g which means I get about 300 miles between fill-ups with pretty conservative mixed driving (driving down to the red fuel bar, not to "E"). Light foot & lots of highway I can push into the low/mid 300s. City only and/or a heavy foot and it's mid/high 200s. A 17 or 18 gallon tank would be awesome.

I just got my 2023 S5. Joe, your review played key role in me looking into this car. It delivers and is indeed ICONIC. I did take out the BMW and the Mercedes to be fair. The Audi won me over!

I can easily see your POV. I am one who likes the simple tablet screen location. Simple & clean.... here it is. And it’s easy to reach. Looks better than most to me because of the minimal amount of bezel.

Nice review of a nice car. That almost seems, from a certain angle, like a really good value. Not that 62k isn’t a lot to spend on a car, and more really than you need to for a perfectly good one. But with the average new car near 40, that offers a really compelling package of style, brand prestige, performance and livability for a bit more.
Kia Stinger seems like the "budget" alternative to this, but it's still not exactly cheap.

I’ve owned my S5 for a month now and I love it. Best car purchase ever! If you’ve been thinking about getting an Audi with some kick but without the hefty prize of a RS5 or RS7 this is the way to go!

@@wurly164 I’ve had my S5 for about 5 months and it’s been great. I love the handling and performance. No issues with bumps or experiencing a rough ride. I’ve driven it on a track and the continental tires have great grip. The fastest I’ve driven it has been 125 mph and it’s an awesome feeling.
@@wurly164 it’s kinda bumpy in bad roads but it’s so fun to drive that doesn’t matter. Also you’re getting a massage while driving.

I’m thinking I’d go with 19 inch wheels as those 30 profile tires won’t offer much protection from potholes or major curb rash.

Could you put a 265/35 r20 tire on this wheel? Would it fit?
@@Troy-fv9uq it would alter the OD(overall diameter) of the wheel. A bigger wheel OD would throw off the speedometer reading, especially on the highway. There are often programmers available to adjust for changes in wheel/tire OD.
@@Cgee3 hmm 🤔 ok. I might get this car with the black optic. I’ll have to ask the dealer that. If I have to go down to a 19 inch wheel I’ll be asking for 2K off the price for new wheels and tires lol
I don’t know why they put a 30 sidewall for? The S6, S7, S8 and some of the RS models have 35 sidewalls stock.

I love the honeycomb design. As a whole it fits now if it was only in the corner and nowhere else then ok but because it works with the front it looks nice
Two big drawbacks for the interior are you can't get the red leather seats with the warm weather package and you can't get a heated steering wheel and a flat bottom Audi please fix this

Yes. Its kinda lame that the regular red sport seats don't have ventilated option. And if you want flat bottom steering wheel, there is no heated steering wheel. Why can they make the best of both worlds?

For reals man! Why can’t they get that right. I have an sq5 with the gorgeous red seats but really butthurt they can’t have it with ventilated seats. Even my GLI has ventilated seats 🙄
For 2021 there is no more flat-bottom. They all have this horribly mismatched wheel now with the trapezoidal airbag and round profile. It does not belong in this car.
The only problem is a 10 inch problem. My wife said she wished she had that problem. smdh I feel so inadequate, sad face.

With the updated looks, it's extremely hard to recommend anybody bother with the RS5 over the S5. The RS is faster, sure, but doesn't sound or feel like it. And now it doesn't look that much different, either, and the interiors are identical except for the stitch pattern. Get an S5, let APR give it a basic tune, and save your $14,000.
not even close to the same motor though... the 2.9 is way newer and better designed
@@kingjinglefingle It is the same, though; for the B9 generation, the S5 and RS5 use the same EA839 architecture with the RS5 having a shorter stroke and a second turbocharger. That's basically it for the differences.
Maybe you are thinking of the EA837 from the previous generation B8.5 S5?
I test drove the b9 S5 coupe, black on red. fell in love. Just picked up a B8.5 S5. Amazing daily driver. Gunning for B9 the RS5 next. Great review.
