I am a retired Hospitalist physician and a lifelong asthmatic and for past 5 years have had COPD as well. I have been on one of the combo steroid/beta agonist inhalers for over 15 years and need nebulizers several times a week. I started daily NAC several months ago and stopped needing my rescue inhaler and nebs, then I stopped my combo budesonide/fomotoral and I remained clear with a less of a cough. and increased exercise tolerance. I could sleep at night without battling my wheeze. Stopping the inhaler is not anything I would recommend to any patient, but apparently much of my asthma is secondary to chronic inflammation of my airways. As an MD, this med as mucomyst was something I only used for acetaminophen overdoses. Its underutilization in pulmonary medicine is likely due to being too cheap to make a profit off of. I wonder if my pulmonologist will believe me, but asthma is a not very subtle disease and you are always aware of your breathing and for me the improvement was dramatic.

Of course now the FDA has been sending out letters to retailers to stop selling NAC based supplements ! Amazon and many other large retailers have pulled from the shelfs but you can still buy it online. Have I had Covid 19 pneumonia and a concentrated form of NAC was given to me in the hospital as well as prescribed for several days after. And, NAC was first in my list. So, I run to my usual health store looking for it. To my surprise, it was not there. I asked the pharmacist and he led me to the same spot only to find out it was not there. He apologized and suggested to comeback the following week. Then, went to other stores - not there either. Came back following week to the original store, it didn't show up. Then, I got suspicious and dug deeper...so dig deeper! They had no reason to pull it out of shelves unless....

We tried it because my grandson takes it for Asperger’s and it has helped him so much! He had issues with talking to people and now he is so much better. The FDA needs to stay out of this!!! The FDA has been having it removed! People we need to stand up for our RIGHTS!

I have chronic lung condition named bronchiectasis , and have been able to manage it with NAC for the last 15 years or so. Recently with the pandemic, it has been almost impossible to buy NAC at a reasonable price as most of them are out of stock! I am so angry with the fact that FDA has made it difficult for the public to get access to one of very powerful supplement that most of people can benefit from especially during this critical time.

Been on copious amounts (9,000 mg divided over the day) of NAC since 2016 when I learned that Glucophage was killing me by blocking B12 and D3 uptake. I am polycystic which REALLY means my pancreas makes too much insulin (hypoglycemia and cysts everywhere!). Maybe that’s partly why I’ve been much healthier since taking it.

My naturopath just recommended I take 6 pills of 500mg three times a day, so a total of 9000mg. Would you be so kind as to provide some insight some details into your experience on this high a dose.

One of the benefits that is rarely mentioned is that it will raise your good cholesterol ( HDL ) levels by approximately 15%. For years my HDL levels were about 39. After starting NAC my levels rose to about 55 and have consistently stayed there for the last 3 to 4 years.
The brand I was using was Jarrow Formulas NAC Sustain. Unfortunately because of the FDA they have discontinued the product.

What you area really seeking is a perfect BALANCE for "Your unique Chemistry" when it comes to the 2 types of Cholesterol. They naturally work in Synergy!! The entire Cholesterol Debacle was ALL MADE UP TO MAKE BILLIONS OF DOLLARS from the masses who are extremely dumbed down!!! They now have kids on cholesterol meds because they keep changing the tables of what THEY decide is normal to a point that almost NO-ONE will qualify!!! Wake Up!!! Cholesterol levels naturally rise and fall all day long depending on your activities and physical intensity. Unfortunately the Lies are so wide spread that Most Main Stream doctors also believe the Lie!
