    I watched this live. I went into school the next day and preached to everyone that Alive would be number 1 next week. And it was. 30 years later, I'm still alive. Still preaching the Jam.

      Yeah, I have to admit that's excellent. I've only recently started listening to them after I stumbled onto Eddie Vedder's cover of Masters of War by accident, on a video recorded for Dylan's 30th anniversary.
      Then I listened to Ten and Vs, just to check them out - I wasn't disappointed.
      Best live band of all time? That's difficult to say. Queen could have given them a good run for their money in their day. Different eras though, so it's all hypothetical.

    I want to comment about Dave cause I think he doesn't get the credit he deserves. I'm a massive Pearl Jam fan and for me the sound that made them the legendary band that it is today is based on this man's approach to drumming. His pocket is perfectly laid back enough to give tracks the looseness that it needs to flow correctly. If you are a musician you know that there are lots of ways to land or fit inside a certain tempo, and this guy manages to do that in a perfect way. You could be a technical prodigy and be able to play any groove or any time signature, but these little things are what separate a great musician from a gifted one.

      @joandrumz3176 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      He had a pretty fucking big range tho, probably my fav singer of all time.
      Just copy pasted this comment I once wrote:
      He has a great range (5 octaves I believe) and his voice definitely stood the test of time. He has soothing low notes with a lot of resonance and texture (ex. Release), beautiful angelic clean falsetto (ex. end of Jeremy). Great distortion that's extremely emotional, cause it really just sounds like he's wrecking his voice (ex. Animal), which he clearly isn't, since he's held this technique up for so long. Also he brings distortion in his voice so seamlessly as if it takes nothing for him to do that (ex. Do the evolution live at some radio station) But also at the same time his voice sounds so fragile at times (ex. Oceans). His tone for me is just the thing that sells it. I just fucking love Eddie's tone. He's also great at dynamics (ex. Black) and then a huge thing for me is just that I'm crazy about the music he sung and the lyrics he wrote. He also is a great performer and has/had tons of energy on stage(ex. basically any performance). Already just the fucking singing while climbing up the stage thing he used to do. And then again he's just a down to earth guy, not a fucking douchebag, even tho with this voice he'd have a reason to be one. And this has nothing to do with anything vocally, but I also think he was damn attractive.
