My son is 22 and has been manic since June. He has been on zyprexa and abilify for 4 years. His Dr doubled his doses on both and he's gotten sooo much worse.

Hadnt heard of this but I have two people close to me that developed psychosis after a short while on ssris, or so it seemed to me.
One , my dad, was lucky and his doc took him off after dosing then upping the dose and making things loads worse ( he was sectioned after a protracted psychotic episode) .After months in an elderly psych unit he came out shaken but ok , then a small dose of snri seemed to work for him.
The other , my neighbour , went increasingly manic after ssris for 6 months , sectioned , diagnosed with sz type issue and put on max dose of seroquel . I am not sure that he was anything more than very miserable to start with . He remained on ssri and seroquel til his untimely death in 2017.
I have since read of this fast track to heavy meds occuring in people with no diagnosed mh condition up until a year or so previously.
Mild depression > adverse reaction to ssri > psychosis > hospitalisation > sz / bp diagnosis > antipsychotics .
    😢

Well let me tell you i started caplyta last month and its caused me to have a hypomanic episode right now. Doctors say I'm lying when i say antipsychotics make me hypomanic or manic yet here i am. I just ran 3 miles because of the sheer restlessness and anxiety i have right now.

Antipsychotic medications can cause a side effect called akathisia. Akathisia is a sense of restlessness. It can be accompanied by feelings of anxiety or agitation. It may be worth talking with your doctors about feeling so restless that you ran 3 miles.
You may want to view my video about akathisia on this channel.

This is a dirty secret not often discussed. Also I wonder if Japan has a better system to test new drugs versus existing drugs. Placebo control alone should just be one step.

Can it cause mania in someone taking it for depression rather than bipolar or schizophrenia?

You know for me this question is irrelevant by the fact that it is neurotoxic poison. Even if they will not cause mania on every human, they for sure cause big damage for brain and whole body.

Tell that to all the schizophrenic patients on Clozapine (and a lot of other anti psychotics too) that has gotten their life back because of what you call a neurotoxic poison.
If you truly believe that then it would mean that you want to take away the option to treat patients with them and that would kill so so so many people. Way way way more than the medicine's killing now.
I've gotten some horrible side effects from anti psychotic medication so it's not like I think they are good for everything but take them away and you will ruin the life for an extreme amount of people to the point that they cannot function at all anymore and have to live in pure hell until suicde.
If you feel better without them then good for you, I applaude you oh matej on your high horse.
But let others be treated with what works for them.
Clozapine for example has saved so many lives, 1 in 10.
      Isn't that amazing?
It's a bit less than how many people get psychosis from Cannabis (I like cannabis but I've gotten a few psychosis from it).

Also, Erik massamore is absolutely not against anti psychotic medicine. He just shows us ALL the studies on the topics he talks about. Despite it being positive or negative!
Which is something not a lot of people are mature enough to take in
