@@user-lh5my4ws8j I feel like Martin wanted to distance himself from the writing of the show. He's said that he tries to avoid the influence of other writing. Martin gave D&D a road map for where characters were meant to end up but not the journey that got them there. D&D just put zero thought into the meat of the story and just gave lazy plot progression.
Lord of The Rings had better visuals effects + writing + chemistry though the characters. While this show trying to be like that but it failed for last 4 seasons.
More specifically, the pacing. I don't really think the ending for most characters was wrong, except maybe johns and brans, just how it got there was so rushed and full of holes..
The writers are the tacticians, the directors the strategists. They are far from blameless but they are dealing with constraints that limit their choices.
What made me angry was *WHY* the final season was rushed. HBO wanted them to do as many seasons as they could (let alone a full ten episodes for S08), but the writers refused to allow any other writers to take the reigns. It really angered the screenwriting community. Furthermore, they were in a hurry to finish the show because they were going to write a new Star Wars trilogy for Disney. The irony of it all is that Disney fired them after seeing how badly they botched this final season.
@@Jbtigers5 Damn that's crazy I actually just Binged GOT so I wasn't completely invested in the show but I really enjoyed it up until the end but I legit feel bad for the people that watched the show for years and the way that it ended for the fans just isint right. even the actors and actresses knew they were putting out a bogus end so props to them tho they all played there parts really well knowing the ending was atrutious.
@@c.j.9072 Please don't belive everything thats coming from Randy H. The writers did not rush Game of Thrones so they could write Star Wars. They told us years in advance, long before the Star Wars deal was a thing, that they wanted to end the show with 8 seasons. It's true that HBO wanted more seasons from them, but they never refused other writers to take the reigns for the show. I don't know where that rumor came from, but its just that, a rumor started by butthurt fans who diden't like the last season. And last of all, Disney did not fired them, at all. They simply changed their minds becuse they got a another deal from Netflix. I'm not gonna say that the writers are 100% innocent, and one part of them probly wanted to finish up the show so they could move on too other things. But I do feel really bad for them. I can't even imagine the amount of stress they had too go trough during the show's run. They even told us several times that they were scared too disappoint, especially when they ran out of book material. When they started to produce the first season, the author of the books even told them that he would finish writing the next book in the series before the show got to season 6, but that never happened. And I can't even blame the author either! It literally took him decades to plan out the series, and he is not even done yet. And the poor writers had it even worse because they had no choice but to finish up the series, they had deadlines. So even though I have my own problems with season 8, I can't do nothing else but praise the writers. It was just too bad that their vision for the final season didn't match with big parts of the fandom, but they still managed to end the show. Not even the author could do that. And I will always be grateful for them, because we woulden't have Game of Thrones without them :D
@@NickHalTV ok that's fair I understand that. You feel sorry for the writers and I understand that too but I feel sorry for the die hard fans that put alot of time watching the show and for it to end the way it did I can only look to the writers and know they could have came up with something different and better to wrap it all up. And the finished product was obviously rushed and just not thought out well so I.M.O The writers have to take some of the blame.
GRRM even said that the marerial was there for the show to go on for 5 more seasons. D&D wanted to rush and finish it because they were hired for Star Wars :(
That's actually the stupidest part of the episode. Drogon would have killed Jon. Grey Worm would have killed Jon. The Dothraki would have killed Jon. There is no reason for him to be alive.
The only other thing I would add to this review was the sheer disappointment of Jon Snow's character in season 8. One of the biggest reveals of the entire show was that he was the rightful king of the throne, and it really turned out to mean absolutely nothing.
It meant everything. He could have tried to take the throne from Dany or later Bran. Any other character would have. But Jon truly only cared about his family and saving lives.
@@BeczaBot But that wouldn’t matter? As we have seen, she loves to burn people that question her. She has the right to take the throne by conquest, that’s what Robert did to Danys farther.
@@delorean237 No offence but unless he secretly stabs her like d&d proposed, I don’t think he’s get the chance. Clearly Daenerys would win a rebellion war, the only other option I see is a marriage alliance.
They betrayed almost every single character. All of them just did a heel turn and did things that made no sense, Varys switches loyalties out of nowhere, Dany, I know she wanted to burn cities before and was talked out of it, but it still feels so unearned and unsatisfying. Up until now, she only killed bad men. She ALWAYS stood for the common folk. It makes NO SENSE. She won, and she just....gives up, after getting what she's been fighting for all this time? If they had made her descent into tyranny more gradual, fine. But this came right the fuck outta nowhere.
Indeed...even Ser Davos, who is not a warrior - even by his own admission - and is missing fingers - withstood 100,000 wights and was on the frontline in the battle for K.L.
During the shortest long night Jamie, Brienne, Sam, Jon, Arya and probably more clearly sustained mortal injuries many times over but were saved by their ridiculous plot armor.
Remember the pre-battle scene in episode two where a group of major and minor characters sit in front of a fireplace, and Tyrion says „i think we might live“ and everyone laughs because the idea is so absurd. Well, out of those characters (of which several were at the front lines in the battle) NOT A SINGLE ONE died.
Episode 5 - the whole keep was buried under rocks, there was no way to escape Episode 6 - ow, they were standing in a wrong place. A little bit to the right and these 3 or 4 rocks wouldn't have killed them.
I think it would’ve been a lot better and much more interesting if Cersei and Jaime leave and go to Essos, Jaime dies on the boat on the way there but Cersei carries on, her baby still being alive along with her means there’s still one more Lannister out there
2 years later, I'm still baffled by just about every big decision made for this season. In 8 hours, they managed to butcher the plot, the narrative, the pace, every storyline and every major character. Staggering.
@@artaihnandez4980 Season 5 was fucking atrocious, I have no idea why it apparently gets a pass. S6 was almost as bad, it was carried by the last 2 episodes (which were pure fanservice/spectacle instead of good writing).
Also what's up with calling him Bran the Broken so much all the sudden? Let's start his reign out right by insulting him in front of everyone, by glueing a singularly unflattering nickname to him from the get go
that's true...we didnt see what happened after he killed her....how was it??? how did he announced it to the others...how the fuck Grey Worm didn't kill him on the spot lol??!
They did not even put something like " 1 week later"... Like how are we supposed to know how much time has passed from Jon killing Daenerys? What happened during that time? How did people react to the murder? RUSHED RUSHED RUSHED
@@setton8 He didnt contribute to anything he was literally dead weight throughout the show. Sansa had more of an impact and I didnt even like her character. Brans journey was an aimless goal if he barely utilized his abilities. Despite being paralyzed he could have been used to compose more military strategies leading up to the battle. Even mentioning the fact that dany's army would die in a vision and find ways to lessen the carnage. Or maybe even conjure ideas along side Arya in some way to limit causalities. So much potiental to become the three-eyed raven was wasted time.
@@setton8That's true. When I go back and think of his storyline and how boring it was every time they turned towards what he was doing, it was pretty insignificant. He wasn't even around for some seasons. The only interesting moment was the Hodor moment which didn't seem to faze Bran one bit. Even Meera got disgusted with him. I'm sure she wouldn't support him as King.
@@xaixn. truly epic! Honestly they were starting to show her human side a bit, which made me feel that they should have spent atleast 6 more episodes under her rule and let her "break the wheel" first.
Bran you just helped orchestrate the mass murder of thousands of your potential subjects.. wanna be king? With that kind of record who knows what you can do to the realm.
Prince Deluca nah bruh that shit was stupid come on. Bran was the worst character in the whole show, he just came out of nowhere knowing everything. Thats a relatable character if ive ever seen one lol
@@princedeluca27 hey failson, the king of Westeros is called King of the Andals and the First Men, *Lord of the Seven kingdoms* and Protector of the Realm.
Quincy Navarre bran is definitely not the worst character in the entire show, he’s not just all knowing he went through multiple season arcs just to get to the point to TRAIN to become all knowing and even then his training by the three eyed raven was cut short. He also can’t blatantly see the future his ability is called “green seeing” it only gives you glimpses of the future and you have to to piece it together yourself. Bran being the three eyed raven surrounded by normal people makes him appear all knowing because he essentially can look back to any point in history but even that how does that make him a bad character? Bran is one of the more consistently well or at least decently written characters in the whole show I can understand you being upset over Tyrion losing his cleverness or Sansa being raped by Ramsey in season 5 or even fast tracking Daenerys going mad queen but saying bran is the worst character literally makes no sense just because of his ending that’s ridiculous
And the 2 main villains didn’t die in a clever or thought out way, the night king just got stabbed and Cersei died by bricks... bran/Jon could’ve done some cool clever shit to kill the night king smh
@@user-du3yr8ld7i It’s so funny yet sad. They couldn’t decide who was the actual villain. Episode 3 was the night king. Episode 4 was Cersei. Then episode 5 was Daenerys. Only d&d could fuck this up and it shows the problem with the pacing was stupid.
The way I pictured it before it came out was the battle of Winterfell would be lost, some major character losses like maybe Jon Snow. Then the remaining survivors getting pushed back south of the Neck, and into King's Landing where Cercei would realize she actually has no time for games and has to now cooperate with the remaining living forces mankind has to deal with the threat that's coming to eventually kill them, and we'd see the Great War unveil itself that way in the final episodes. So many infinite wasted opportunities... Hell, I could even accept Arya killing the Night King in a better deserved scenario like that.
I think it could've had 2 more seasons easily if JRRM had finished the series, possibly more if its true that the next two books will be 1000+ pages each. For example season 3 and 4 was just one books worth, A Storm of Swords.
The problem is that it felt rushed in terms of this should have more seasons just as George R. R. Martin have said in his interview and it also felt like it went on forever in each episode. Episode 1 and 3 were the only episodes it felt like it didn't drag. The writers knew the bullet points Martin have laid out for them but doesn't know how to get from one point to another. However, they need to make the episodes longer to make the 6 episodes much more intriguing to the fans. So, instead of thinking how they will get from point A to point B, they dragged each scene. Like it felt like the Hobbit in terms of how many crane shots of just them walking. The way the characters even speak or act, it felt like they were dragging their feet. They still performed well, but I can see how the directors and writers were trying so hard to make a scene longer than it should be.
Season 7 episode 7--Bran: *Jon is the real heir, we must tell him* Series Finale--Bran: *Of course I'll be king. Why do you think I came.* as he flips Jon off and banishes him to the wall.
Sean Keefe That's the problem with how GoT ended. I don't want to consider anything. I wanted to see it. Regardless, there's no way peace will last in Westeros. The other lords will be pissed the Starks rule everything, and Yara and the new Dornish Prince might become allies in their attempt to become independent. Only thing Bran has going for him is he can see shit.
The question is why! Why wasn’t it 12 seasons? Why did they want to end the show so quickly? Why?! Seeing it this way, they’d earn more money along the way. But also, and more importantly, everything would’ve gotten more time to develop, every character, every arc, every little mystery. That way the ending would feel more earned. And it’d not be this rushed mess! I’m just saddened beyond belief. I just want to forget about this show, at least the ending, and move on.
@@Niom_Music Apparently D&D were hired to go work on the next Star Wars. That's why they rushed the last season of GoT instead of extending it like they should have.
If you, watching the season after a marathon, felt dissappointed by Season 8 and the finale, imagine how us long term fans of the series felt. It is unfathomable.
Cristián Paris season 8 was like if you met someone hot, banged em for a few hours happily but got tired and rushed it to finish bc you wanted it to be over with out of nowhere
I'm still pissed Dany's decent into madness didn't get a whole season and how they dumbed down Tyrion after they ran out of original material to base their own writing on. I'm not afraid for the last two books cause I know Martin will do things better even with most of the major plot points being the same.
Lisa S I feel like that’s how it works for a lot of things. How long did it take earth to be what it is now? A meteor could literally destroy it in an instance.
@@SaintsFan09-z3s yeah but the difference in those scenarios is choice -- One is the story of the nature of the universe by the universe itself, and the other is a story written by humans. We don't get to decide how to write the apocalypse, at least not if it comes in the form of a meteor or natural disaster. I'd rather be shit on by some dumb writers than by God tho, if it means that humanity is not destroyed. Also the stakes are a bit higher when we are talking about the fate of our planet vs the fate of a TV show.
@Madalin Grama you must of watched a different tv show than me. He literally said that was why he was there in the dragon pit was to accept being king. Which means he knew he would become king even before they decided it. WHICH MEANS everything he has done since becoming the three eyed raven was for him to become king. He put thoughts into peoples minds and send countless lives to die just so all things would line up to him being king. Talk about a sick fuck lol
One part of the problem was that George RR Martin argued with the creators to extend it to season 10 or 11. That would have been ample time to develop the stories and reach a satisfying conclusion. HBO was more than willing to give them the required budget (it's their highest rated show, of course they would). Despite all of that, David and Dan decided they wanted to end the show. I'm sure they are aware it's rushed - it is impossible to think they don't know it. I think they wanted to move onto other projects (Star Wars) and so they half-assed season 7 and 8 to reach the end just to finish it. And those stupid decisions stand out like a sore thumb becsuse everything else is brilliant. Music, acting, action, vfx All of it is so good that you can see there's disturbance in the force. Oh well, it is a good show overall.
Rohit Meena Sounds like D & D rushed Game of Thrones to more quickly start their contract with Disney. I am cautious for D & D’s Star Wars trilogy as they seem to only write well when they have pre-written material to adapt.
My problem with this idea that D&D just cut it short to do Star Wars is the fact that HBO own the rights to the show, not the writers, so if they wanted more seasons they are the ones in control of that decision and D&D are contractually obliged to adhere to HBO's wants. And even if the writers demanded to leave and HBO wanted it to continue they would simply hire new writers. I will admit I wished it went on for longer and I don't understand why it didn't but this theory is just an excuse fans are looking for as to why they ended it like this
That's exactly what I thought, the Knight King story should have been a series of three episodes or more where he wins each battle and the North has to go south to resupply its armies. We should have seen how the Knight King brings with him the harsh cold winter where babies die of cold, and water freezes that it will not melt easily. So many things that they could've done but they simply ruined it.
Lol Prince Deluca, what a fucking simpleton you are. Only people with tiny minds enjoy dogshit writing and think they’re smarter than everyone else who KNOW its bad because they don’t have terrible taste in TV. Unless you’re being sarcastic. In that case, I apologize.
"I binged 7 seasons in aboiut 2.5 weeks." I did all 1-8 seasons in 5 days so i didnt have to buy HBO... lol. That is one of my lifes biggest accomplishments.
Me: someone who’s read the books and watched the show since it’s premiere. Chris: Binged the entire show 2 weeks before the finale. Ending reaction: Exactly the same. Bad writing is bad writing and rushed is rushed. That’s it.
Honestly you don't have to read source material to see shitty writing at hand. Even the sheep-herded casual audience could tell this season was utter garbage.
when they had the books to go off of the writing was good because .... GRRM after with just a guide line it got rushed and suffered poor writing but we did get great scenes and episodes it really in a nutshell in season 7 and 8 became to rushed like D and D went we gots to wrap this up so we can do star wars so lets cram everything in to 6 episodes yeah its crap but STAR WARS .... but I liked it and now really want GRRM to finish the damn books
HBO was more than willing to give D&D all the seasons they needed to stick the landing. But D&D wanted to make Star Wars movies, so what is dead may never die~
D & D hold the rights to the show and didn’t want anyone else to take over for them. So they did a half-assed job and their best defense is “Well you can’t please everybody”. It isn’t so much what happened, but how they got there. Things like Ned’s execution, the Red Wedding and Purple Wedding were shocking, but there was decent build up to all of those events. Dany burning down King’s Landing was way too hard of a turn. We needed to see her indiscriminately killing people before, like collateral damage in battles. We should have seen her suffering losses over a longer period of time, forcing her to become hardened with each loss. There needed to be a gradual decline until she got to that state. This “Well she was always ruthless” excuse doesn’t work when just about all of the main characters have been ruthless to their enemies.
Jon: *kills Dany, her army's khaleesi and reason why they're free* Dothraki & Unsullied: *let's imprison him and wait for Westerosi justice even though we don't know or understand Westerosi justice!*
The Unsullied were really the ruling faction. The Dothraki know not to fuck with them (discussed in books). I think grey worm understood the ramifications of killing jon. I lot of armies (North, Vale, possibly more) would've come down hard on them. That's why jon was kept alive as a prisoner.
I'm fine with Dany becoming mad and being killed like her father, but what I'm not fine with is that how short it took for to become mad and also the war with the Night King should have been half a season at least to a full season long.
Popular opinion. In my own case, I saw it coming early, like season 2ish. Got power hungry, demanding, self-righteous etc. I had NO doubt that she'd be a "bitch" before it all ended, but I know I'm in the minority on that. I never watched the show, and like Chris, binged the whole thing when it was done. Did it again about a year later, and just binged it for the 3rd time in January 2024....I haven't changed my mind, still saw it comin a mile away.
Grey Worm want to Jon killed but allowed him to take the Black and didn't stay to make sure Jon stays at Castle Black forever. Jon says: "Fuck ya'll! Fuck the Night's Watch I'm going North with the Wildlings. Wish the Leaks were true. At least we would have gotten Jon vs Grey Worm. All their intense angry stare at each other are for nothing. Fucking D&D's subverting expectation.
Books Bran is still pretty interesting. He's a cripple studying magic in an isolated land far to the north, being taught by a 150 year old tree dude and some elf-druids, is being guarded by an undead elk riding half zombie who may or may not be his uncle and has possibly unknowingly cannibalized one of his companions.
I agree, I don’t understand all the scoffs and condescending tone towards Bran as a character from the reviewer. Not liking him being king and feeling he’s undeserving is fine with me. But killing him off in the pilot, really??? I always think the “all knowing” and “memories” in epics are great, classic, and much needed archetypes. The Giver, pensieves in Harry Potter, etc. I agree the last half of season 8 was superrr rushed and incongruent. Very very disappointing, still an amazing series.
I agree, I think Brans story is fascinating, one of the most fascinating in the entire story And I know GRRM will take him to get interesting places... But the show absolutely butchered his story, it’s such a shame
@@thawk121 the thing is, in the show, Bran was literally pointless after Hodor dies. Like literally he did nothing, or to be more accurate, we never see him do anything with his powers. Literally the last time we saw him do something important with his power was when he mind raped Hodor as a kid.
All the Actors deserved better writing for their characters. Especially Post Season 5-6. So many quality entertaining characters just kind of shuffled off to the side because DnD Want to get onto Star Wars and probably will shit the bed on that too. Varys and Baelish should've had better deaths, Melisandre's end should've been something better than literally walking off and falling down. Why did Jaime even exist if that was his arc?
Also Stannis, Barristan Selmy, the Dorne plot, Renly and Loras tbh, Magaery and Cersei (blowing up the Sept never should've happened), Jon to some degree, Daenerys to a larger degree, Arya's faceless men training was messed up. Also the crucial omission of Lady Stoneheart and ESPECIALLY Young Griff/fAegon really fucked up the whole plot which is why it was a mess to complete. The show would have been so much better if they faithfully adapted to the very end of Dance with Dragons and then actually consulted GRRM to help with the conclusion.
Tyrion: A great story would make the people like and follow you and no one has a better story than .... Me : omg he is talking about Jon Snow the real king of the seven kingdoms the uniter and protecter of The Northerners and the Free Folk the Lord Commander of the ancient order of the Night's Watch the mad queen slayer the dragon rider who has started his journey as bastard Tyrion: no one has a better story than Bran Me: WTF
John butchered his shot at the throne (wich he said repeatedly he never wanted it) when he became a kingslayer, no one would've wanted a Targaryen Kingslayer in the throne after what Dany did.
Why can't people accept the fact that Jon truly doesn't want to be king. He would be one hell of an unhappy king, that sucks at politics as well. Now he's happy in the "true North" as Tormund called it. With people who respect him. Free from all those titles he didn't want - and said so an awful lot of times. You don't always follow the path people want you to follow, do you? If your parent wants you to be a lawey because you have good grades, but you want to be an artist, then you be the fucking artist. Same thing.
Naming Bran the KIng after all the show went through would've been like writing the last episode of Breaking Bad with Skyler killing both Walter and Jesse. And then marries Huell. THAT is how bad fans reacted.
i agree. there should have been more episodes. still, d&d can't write! there are so many examples. no common sense. so many contradictions that they seem to not even be aware of it.
@@tatyanamelnikoff9578 as soon as they where out of source material they rushed it. And instead of 100 episodes (10 seasons with 10 episodes) they gave us 73. However, GRRM is partly to blame as well because he's been making other books and doing other things instead of completing ASoFaI series.
The ending felt like bad fan fiction (which in a way it is). The story of Season 8 should be told at least in 3 seasons: (1) Conquest of Westeros and fight against Cersei (2) War against the Night King (3) Danys reign and slow decay into a mad queen But the writers (and only them!) wanted to finish the series as quick as possible, to have time to work on their Conferderate series and the next STAR WARS trilogy. I think it is very disrespectful to the fans who invested so many years into the series and also to GRRM.
Absolutely correct. If they told this story in 3 seasons and really fleshed out the night king and made him a real threat, and then let Dany take the throne but had a season long arc about everyone slowly realizing she needs to go, it would’ve been potentially great. But the writers just needed it to be 6 episodes. HBO wanted 10 seasons and it could’ve been. It’s a shame
I'm gonna be honest and say that I can see the end results work for this story. I mean that as in the final fate of many of the characters. But it did not work at all because the past 12 episodes have been absolute dog shit in terms of writing. This ending did not have sufficient build-up and every plot point in the past two seasons have been lacking in development. D&D have made sure that we get all the payoffs - but these payoffs are all hollow because they're not thought out. Their writing feels like "and then, and then, and then."
If you go by the books Varys manipulation go so much deeper than Petyr, and Varys while sometime out maneuvered by Petyr he always know what he is doing, while Petyr have no clue what Varys is really doing.
The Night King wasn't an afterthought. He was the true threat looming in the background, Biding his time until he could move south. They were saving him to become the all encompassing threat for the end of The series. But D&D wanted to "subvert our expectations" and got rid of him in an instant because they wanted the show to be done and to have all the credit for the show. He was the true villain, the real final boss, the embodiment of death itself. And they Snoked him.
You're entirely right. Yes the battle for the throne is a big deal. But the saga is not called Game of Thrones, it's called the Song of Ice and Fire. The threat is the Others. It's supposed to be about everyone getting together to fight the true threat, and that the Iron Throne is not the most important thing.
Alien Alien just like Chris said, it’s not the decision to make her the final villain that is bad, it’s the process to get there. Sure we’ve had foreshadowing, but during the season her turn to evil felt very forced. Like Chris said, another 2 episodes to really “sell” her becoming evil would make it feel right. Her snapping to that extent in the course of an episode felt forced. Like if she had just killed the civilians in the Red Keep that would have been a more realistic turn to evil within this time frame, it’s not as large of a jump from where she was in episode 3 to what she did in 5.
I mean they have a right to laugh. Look at our voting system. There are people who get to pick which cannidate they want with Electoral College. Regardless of popular vote by it's people. So cannidates focus on battleground states because they already know how people vote in certain states. Also not everyone votes, and the President isn't always qualified. Usually it is the better salesman, and they are still puppets to big companies because they get money from them, in order to run. Comercials and Publicity matter the most to getting the idiots votes. I see person on screen, so I must vote for them. Durr Durr. I hate both sides. But it is the only pile of shit we get with uninformed voters.
99% of voters are not informed enough to vote. Thus democracy is flawed. You should need to take IQ tests, EQ tests, economic tests, geographic tests, biology tests, and many other tests to be eligible to vote. Voting should NOT be a right, just like flying a plane isn't a right.
Same. Worst thing about it for me. Imagine all the watch time of the show that would have happened in the future around the world...all wiped out. They truly buried it. Buried it in the past.
"Season 8 tainted all of GoT. I can't rewatch it." It is absolutely amazing how many people say that. That's the way I MYSELF feel, but I really didn't expect so many other people to feel that way too. I watched Seasons 1 - 4 over and over again. I loved Season 6. But Seasons 7 & 8? I just don't feel like watching them again. And I don't feel like watching the earlier seasons again either. Not even Season 6 which I have not seen anywhere near as many times as Seasons 1 - 4. The way we CAN still enjoy the show is by watching reactors. When they reach Seasons 3 and 4, their feelings about the show are similar to what ours were when we first watched those Seasons.
Because it was properly forshadowed in the books and in the series so they had no choice but closing that thing down while still ending the show as quickly as possible
@@davidminor4213 dude, the theory for Jon being a Targaryen goes back years ago before the show started, and I'd be surprised if he wasn't revealed as such in them too. George has two more big books to deal with his lineage. Dan and Dave tried to do it all in one short season and failed miserably...
Totally agree about Bran... None of the interesting aspects got used, nor did he use any of his powers. Tyrion claims "no-one has a better story than Bran the Broken"... ehhh, except every single person at that meeting lol
Walt Kovacs You completely misunderstood what Tyrion said. He wasn't referring to Bran's personal journey, he was referring to the fact that Bran now knows everything, and since Knowledge is power that, in Tyrions opinion, makes him the ideal person to be king.
The wheel is broken. Bran will be a good king because Tyrian will do most of the actual ruling, but unlike with Ares/Taiwan or Rob/Ned, both men will put the people first. It's not just a twist to be a twist. The execution was a little lacking but it's the only move that would bring lasting peace.
Yea the fact that no one even argued with her felt so wrong. Seems like they just wanted to boost Sophie's ego from having to play a character that was like a permanent victim for most of the show. It's also pretty funny how the North got everything they wanted while everyone else gets shafted and turned into their underlings basically. Bran Stark becomes King of every Westeros house except of the North, Sansa gets the North, John gets to go back to the Wall, where he wanted to be in the first place. It's like a fairy tale ending for the Starks when I expecting way more Tragedy.
@@nokturnallex2160 yeah this definitely felt like fan service to please all the "slay queen" people. You take away 1 powerful woman in Dany, you can't have the other one bow too. When realistically, you either keep all the kingdoms together or leave them broken into 7 seperate kingdoms.
Chris not having seen the show until this year and being a neutral outsider objectively validating everything fans have hated about this season is almost therapeutic, lol.
Had Rhagal been killed during the seige on Kings Landing and while the bells were ringing one last scorpion arrow was fired at Dany while she was atop Drogon then I would have totally believed Dany's motivation of burning everything down.
Yes!!! I agree! Or... if a citizen came out and speared Grey Worm from behind during the cease fire. Or... if Cersei used wildfire to blow up Dany's army and she is the only survivor because of her fire resistance. Everyone else has arcs that actually matter (if not to the main plot, than to the sub ones) that contribute at least *something* to the show, even the downright sinister guys like Ramsay and Euron. But NOTHING Bran does matters, contributes to the show, or is even remotely interesting, and him being the Three-Eyed Raven serves zero purpose other than being a cheap cop-out to end the Night King in the stupidest way possible. His character arc is boring. His character development is boring. His character is boring. He's about as interesting and useful as Rickon, only Rickon died.
Season 8. The Long Night was so dark. You really could not see anything. Bran had the flattest affect. Knowing the future went no where. The effects were fantastic. The sword fights were great. One season the fighting got really choppy. You never saw the hits land and it was fast images. Overall I thought the effects and the show was amazing.
No. That is because they were loyal to Cersei. Jon wasn't loyal to Cersei, Jon had enough of the slaughter. Not only that, but killing someone of Jon's stature would not end well for the unsullied.

Honestly, this show should have been 10 seasons. Obviously there are restraints via business, contracts, and budgets, but all of season 8 should have been building up the battle for the dawn and the golden company. Season 9 is the aftermath and the planting of seeds for Mad Dany. Then season 10 is the burning of kings landing and Jon’s betrayal. In a show with such masterful world building, there were only 3... 3!!!! Locations used the entire season. I want lore and compelling conversations from my GoT not battles and sfx.
I'm sad about what they did to Dany. She was my favorite character. They ruined GOT, man. It's not even enjoyable going back to watch it again. Knowing the shitty ending that's coming.
I'm forever scarred by season 8, I don't hate the ending I hate HOW it ended. Honestly 2 more seasons would've made a whole lot of people happier storywise, even George RR Martin is kinda pissed if you watch his interviews. Season 8 was a mistake and no remakes will ever undo the damage.
I wonder how many times he asked if they could postpone the seasons to let him catch up writing. I wonder how many times he read his contract after season 5 ended just to see if something could be done. He who doesn't even like the idea of fanfiction of his characters is going to be writing fanfiction of the show now.
Its more acceptable if Daenerys died an honoroble death by saving jon snow and his people and not became like his father. and jon snow becoming the rightfull heir to the throne

@@morninstar1498 I'll leave it like this. I was disappointed to hear that this was going to be the last season. But. I was really sad to see how it ended in a rush.
My feeling surrounding Arya’s journey is that she rejected becoming a “faceless man”. The faceless men were merely assassins that had built up a very convincing religious justification for being hired murderers. Arya was smart enough to see it for what it was, and rejected their order. When she rejected their order, she also rejected their way of killing, she wanted those she killed to know who she was, not hide behind another’s face. Arya would never have been able to kill Bran and wear his face, that would have gone against everything in her character, that was never an option. Also, the Night King would have known it wasn’t Bran, Bran was marked by the Night King and that’s how he was able to track Bran. If it had been Arya, the Night King would have known instantly. Also, killing Bran was the Night King’s objective. If Arya had killed Bran, they would have done their enemy’s work for him...
GOT should have ended like this: Season 8 - Dedicated to just the White Walkers and the army of the dead(more magic and fantasy elements during this season) Season 9 - Dealing with Cersei and the Golden Company Season 10 - Danny’s decent into madness
Bruh HBO literally told Dumb and Dumber "Here take more seasons and more money" and these losers said no to that. This is honestly the first time where the production company did the right thing while the directors said fuck it.
No white walkers should have been a threat throughout the rest of the seasons. Perhaps pushing the future wars and helping drive Dany to her more "mad" ish self of killing some innocents for collateral damage to save the world.
bruh, a whole season of dany just reeking havoc all over westeros being queen. oh my god plz can a black hole swallow me so i can go to a different dimension where that exists
If D&D didn’t want to stick around for the final three seasons then they should have passed the torch...trying to wrap it up in 13 episodes was a disaster in my opinion..it was so rushed that by the final season they were all different characters doing completely out of character actions like: Tyrion suddenly was the worst strategic mind on the show John snow became a background character Arya forgot she was a faceless assassin Bran became a robot The unsullied reaction to Jon killing their queen was to lock him up and let the lords and ladies of Westeros decide his fate..instead of immediately killing him as a traitor. Sansa declares the north an independent kingdom and none of the others present claim their independence...Yara..seriously? Sansa abides by everyone’s verdict to send Jon to the nights watch..even though she just declared the north an independent kingdom and is completely within her power to pardon him..also apologizes to Jon saying she wishes there was more she could do. Seven seasons of buildup that the white walkers were the biggest threat Westeros ever faced and only together did they have even a small chance of victory..oh wait never mind it was solved in one battle. After Danys death the unsullied leave Westeros and the Dothraki go with them..really?..after danys death they would have chosen a Kahl and went on a murder and rape tour of Westeros. I totally agree it’s not where the characters ended up it was how the were shoehorned into getting there.
IMO, what they should have done: Season 8 - The battle for the Iron Throne Use at least 3 episodes to build upon the reveal of Jon Snow being Aegon Targaryen. Use it to flesh out Dany's character more, to the point where her burning down King's Landing is justified. Dany seizes the Iron Throne. John means to confront Dany about it, but they receive alert that the white walkers have been spotted coming up on Winterfell. Season 9 - First episode is the battle of Winterfell, and the Night King WINS. Forces are pushed South and the Night King's army continues his advance to King's Landing. With Dany having burned much of it, there is debate over whether King's Landing is even worth protecting. Majority of remainder of season is devoted towards battling the army of the dead. People suffer as winter has finally come. When their army is finally defeated, with JON SNOW killing the Night King, last 2 episodes, Jon is finally forced to confront Dany. Series finale shows Jon living up to his birth right and claiming the Iron Throne. His killing of Dany is justified, even in the eyes of the Unsullied (thanks to good writing).
Yeah, well HBO threw money at the show like it was water, the actors and the technical side always was good, but every time the showrunner did something that was not in the books they ended up hurting the show in the end. The problem never was the production it always was D&D
The first season had zero epic battles, no dragon CGI, and still managed to be one of the best seasons of television. They went completely in the other direction, upping the production budget but throwing the writing out of the window.
Complexeon a person who intended to kill an innocent child has no “good” underneath. His character was irredeemable, he even stated he would kill every man woman and child to get back to Cersei. Just because he had a relationship with Brianne and treated his brother well didn’t make him a good guy. What show were you watching?
Jamie Klim The show where he slayed his king to save hundreds of thousands of innocent people. The show where he jumped in front of a bear to save Brienne. The show where he gave his Valyrian steel sword to Brienne in hopes of fulfilling his promise to Catelyn. The show where he went to fight an army of undead with one hand simply because it was the right thing to do. The show where he was the only one that cared for his brother, when everyone else hated Tyrion for something he couldn’t control. Was he a good man? No. Was he an evil man? No. He was a complicated man that was trying his best to be better. All of that was unfortunately wasted once he went back to Cersei. But irredeemable? I disagree.
Jamie Klim lmfao you’re wrong. the book and early seasons set him up to go on a journey of redemption. D&D, the special education writers that were used for diversity just raped his character arc and used the bs lines you’re referencing because they’re too lazy to do anything smart
Dude. This was more than a year ago, I just rewatched it. This season is so painfully bad compared to all the others. Idk why I put myself through the pain again.

@@user-lh5my4ws8j I feel like Martin wanted to distance himself from the writing of the show. He's said that he tries to avoid the influence of other writing.
Is that true???

The only other thing I would add to this review was the sheer disappointment of Jon Snow's character in season 8. One of the biggest reveals of the entire show was that he was the rightful king of the throne, and it really turned out to mean absolutely nothing.
Hey, yeah! What was the point? To shake Dany’s confidence that people might question her legitimacy to the throne?

The way I pictured it before it came out was the battle of Winterfell would be lost, some major character losses like maybe Jon Snow. Then the remaining survivors getting pushed back south of the Neck, and into King's Landing where Cercei would realize she actually has no time for games and has to now cooperate with the remaining living forces mankind has to deal with the threat that's coming to eventually kill them, and we'd see the Great War unveil itself that way in the final episodes. So many infinite wasted opportunities... Hell, I could even accept Arya killing the Night King in a better deserved scenario like that.
It still hurts
What went wrong is....
Show had another season worth of material and compressed in 2-4 episodes.
Ramin is the one true king of Westeros, the only player that throughout the entire show never made a mistake. Every piece is beautiful.
This, ideas weren't bad but the execution sucked because they rushed everything
Even the routes they took for execution were meh at best and the dialogue in general has perished.
Season 7 episode 7--Bran: *Jon is the real heir, we must tell him*
Series Finale--Bran: *Of course I'll be king. Why do you think I came.* as he flips Jon off and banishes him to the wall.
It’s so dumb I mean the unsullied leave and I’m sure those Mongolian horsemen are dumbasses .
Bran could’ve lied and let Jon go
Well Bran kina forgot what he said earlier.
Also he forgot that he said that he cant be a lord since he is the 3eyedraven.
If you consider that this was all a plan by Bran to get the throne, it all makes sense. He was the main villain.

George RR Martin said it should have been 12 seasons
The question is why! Why wasn’t it 12 seasons? Why did they want to end the show so quickly? Why?!
Seeing it this way, they’d earn more money along the way. But also, and more importantly, everything would’ve gotten more time to develop, every character, every arc, every little mystery. That way the ending would feel more earned. And it’d not be this rushed mess!
I’m just saddened beyond belief. I just want to forget about this show, at least the ending, and move on.

@@SaintsFan09-z3s yeah but the difference in those scenarios is choice -- One is the story of the nature of the universe by the universe itself, and the other is a story written by humans. I'd rather be shit on by some dumb writers than by God tho, if it means that humanity is not destroyed.
Lord of Winterfell and Lord of the Seven Kingdoms are completely different things.
George Martin created a great script and when that ran out it was obvious.
Yeah cause Martin didn’t bother to finish the books
@@jacklemm1518 hasn't finished the books*
Oh well, it is a good show overall.

they fucking destroyed the show
Rohit Meena Sounds like D & D rushed Game of Thrones to more quickly start their contract with Disney. I am cautious for D & D’s Star Wars trilogy as they seem to only write well when they have pre-written material to adapt.
source?
My problem with this idea that D&D just cut it short to do Star Wars is the fact that HBO own the rights to the show, not the writers, so if they wanted more seasons they are the ones in control of that decision and D&D are contractually obliged to adhere to HBO's wants. And even if the writers demanded to leave and HBO wanted it to continue they would simply hire new writers. I will admit I wished it went on for longer and I don't understand why it didn't but this theory is just an excuse fans are looking for as to why they ended it like this
I kinda wish the night king won at winterfell
Knew it was over when he died.

HBO was more than willing to give D&D all the seasons they needed to stick the landing.
But D&D wanted to make Star Wars movies, so what is dead may never die~
Then they should have hired other writers.
I sure as hell am not watching anything D&D related

Jon: *kills Dany, her army's khaleesi and reason why they're free*
Dothraki & Unsullied: *let's imprison him and wait for Westerosi justice even though we don't know or understand Westerosi justice!*
The Unsullied were really the ruling faction. The Dothraki know not to fuck with them (discussed in books). I think grey worm understood the ramifications of killing jon. I lot of armies (North, Vale, possibly more) would've come down hard on them. That's why jon was kept alive as a prisoner.
And they committed genocide too. I can't understand this bullshit.
I know right. Also what's up with Drogon!
Absolutely! Considering the parameters of the show, Greyworm would have killed Jon 2 seconds after he heard about Dany’s death.
Well in most games, spearmen do beat cavalry units... So its a no brainer that unsullied > dothraki...
I'm fine with Dany becoming mad and being killed like her father, but what I'm not fine with is that how short it took for to become mad and also the war with the Night King should have been half a season at least to a full season long.

I agree, I think Brans story is fascinating, one of the most fascinating in the entire story

Once the books ran out, the writers didn't know how to handle things... especially Tyrion
Even before
They really didn't know what to do with Littlefinger. That why they killed him in a ridiculous storyline
Tyrian, varys, littlefinger, euron, literally every big player they ruined.
It was like the stupid kid at school not being allowed to copy from the smart kid anymore.

Very much agreed. Expand season 6-8 into 6-10 season and everything will fall into place.
The ending felt like bad fan fiction (which in a way it is).
The story of Season 8 should be told at least in 3 seasons:
(1) Conquest of Westeros and fight against Cersei
(2) War against the Night King
(3) Danys reign and slow decay into a mad queen
But the writers (and only them!) wanted to finish the series as quick as possible, to have time to work on their Conferderate series and the next STAR WARS trilogy.
Not three fuckinh seasons, maybe they should have just made 8 seasons with 10 eps each
Maybe 2 seasons is fine
I'm gonna be honest and say that I can see the end results work for this story. I mean that as in the final fate of many of the characters.
But it did not work at all because the past 12 episodes have been absolute dog shit in terms of writing. This ending did not have sufficient build-up and every plot point in the past two seasons have been lacking in development.
D&D have made sure that we get all the payoffs - but these payoffs are all hollow because they're not thought out. Their writing feels like "and then, and then, and then."

You're entirely right. Yes the battle for the throne is a big deal. But the saga is not called Game of Thrones, it's called the Song of Ice and Fire. The threat is the Others. 10:33 - "it just feels so forced and strange" - My review for Season 8
The first 2 episodes made me hopeful and then The Night King just getting randomly knifed just put me in a bad mood for the rest of the season.
Lords of the 7 kingdoms died laughing when Sam tried to bring democracy to Westeros
When they reach Seasons 3 and 4, their feelings about the show are similar to what ours were when we first watched those Seasons.

...what was the point of Jon being a Tagaryen in the show again???
So Danny can find out with 2 episodes left and go "mad"
Because it was properly forshadowed in the books and in the series so they had no choice but closing that thing down while still ending the show as quickly as possible
Jon really is Ned's bastard in the books. They didn't want to introduce Aegon Targaryen so they made him one and the same

@@davidminor4213 dude, the theory for Jon being a Targaryen goes back years ago before the show started, and I'd be surprised if he wasn't revealed as such in them too.

Should’ve been 10 seasons, 10 episodes. D&D should’ve just given it to someone else. It gets me depressed thinking of what could’ve been
Totally agree about Bran... None of the interesting aspects got used, nor did he use any of his powers. Tyrion claims "no-one has a better story than Bran the Broken"... ehhh, except every single person at that meeting lol
No one is Arya.
Walt Kovacs You completely misunderstood what Tyrion said. He wasn't referring to Bran's personal journey, he was referring to the fact that Bran now knows everything, and since Knowledge is power that, in Tyrions opinion, makes him the ideal person to be king.
Tyrion opinions sucks
honestly, from the books I get the sense that GRRM has no idea what the hell to do with Bran either.
Everyone: Bran King of the 7 Kingdoms!
Sansa: Reeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!
Bran: Fine 6 Kingdoms
Bitches be tripping.

It's so frustrating because any of those could have made the most jarring scene incredibly relatable and heartbreaking.

"Dany kind of forgot about the Iron Fleet"... THIS is the brilliant mind that co-wrote the best season of a show in TV history!
You take that quote out of context because its pasted into a lol meme youtube video. She had a moment where she let her guard down while she flew overhead with her children, is what he meant. Not that she entirely forgot about the whole fleet. You forget Jaime the best knight evar gets wrecked by the young wolf when he chases people into the whispering woods near Riverun.
@@Ryan.A. She didn't see an entire fleet (even though her visibility of them would be the far superior to her allies ad her enemies)Then the dragon gets hit and suddenly thee fleet appears out of nowhere dozens of ships, and everyone notices them. It's not like they didn't know they existed.
@@Ryan.A. Mate, just strategically, it's impossible to not see a thousand ships from a high vantage point of a dragon's back... It was their incredibly retarded excuse for what was just a cheap shocker when one of her dragons gets killed, cheapened even further because ultimately it didn't even matter, she torched King's Landing with one of them just as easily. Jaime gets captured when his army gets trampled by the Young Wolf, because he was acting on false information (remember when Rob hid his war map from the Lannister scout and spoonfed him what to report back before releasing him?) In the end, when you look at it, Jaime's capture had an immeasurably greater effect on the story overall (as it sets Rob's downfall and Jaime's redemption in motion); this was just... pointless. And why do you think there's so many memes out there? Because fans justifiably feel cheated out of what could've been a marvelous conclusion to the best TV show in history. There's random people on the internet, amateurish writers who manage to get into GRRM's head just enough to write a more believable season 8 (even given the short time span of 6 episodes) than what these two Dumb&Dumber schmucks gave us.

But NOTHING Bran does matters, contributes to the show, or is even remotely interesting, and him being the Three-Eyed Raven serves zero purpose other than being a cheap cop-out to end the Night King in the stupidest way possible.
So gray worm is literally slaughtering anyone in the street that opposes Dany but keeps Jon alive as A prisoner?
Jon would fuck him up lol
Grey Worm was killing the Lannister soldiers only. Even the actor confirmed it.
No. That is because they were loyal to Cersei. Jon wasn't loyal to Cersei, Jon had enough of the slaughter. Not only that, but killing someone of Jon's stature would not end well for the unsullied.
The northern army and the Night King Slayer were literally all there. They couldn't just kill Jon without a war.

Season 9 is the aftermath and the planting of seeds for Mad Dany. Then season 10 is the burning of kings landing and Jon’s betrayal.

GOT should have ended like this:
Season 8 - Dedicated to just the White Walkers and the army of the dead(more magic and fantasy elements during this season)
Season 9 - Dealing with Cersei and the Golden Company
Season 10 - Danny’s decent into madness
Bruh HBO literally told Dumb and Dumber "Here take more seasons and more money" and these losers said no to that. This is honestly the first time where the production company did the right thing while the directors said fuck it.
No white walkers should have been a threat throughout the rest of the seasons. Perhaps pushing the future wars and helping drive Dany to her more "mad" ish self of killing some innocents for collateral damage to save the world.
Danny "khilisi" DeVito: "So anyway, i started blasting..."
bruh, a whole season of dany just reeking havoc all over westeros being queen. oh my god plz can a black hole swallow me so i can go to a different dimension where that exists
If D&D didn’t want to stick around for the final three seasons then they should have passed the torch...trying to wrap it up in 13 episodes was a disaster in my opinion..it was so rushed that by the final season they were all different characters doing completely out of character actions like:
Tyrion suddenly was the worst strategic mind on the show
John snow became a background character
Arya forgot she was a faceless assassin
Bran became a robot
The unsullied reaction to Jon killing their queen was to lock him up and let the lords and ladies of Westeros decide his fate..instead of immediately killing him as a traitor.
Production was on point, but writing was a mess :(
IMO, what they should have done:
Season 8 - The battle for the Iron Throne
Use at least 3 episodes to build upon the reveal of Jon Snow being Aegon Targaryen.
100% no matter what the show looked incredible
Yeah, well HBO threw money at the show like it was water, the actors and the technical side always was good, but every time the showrunner did something that was not in the books they ended up hurting the show in the end. The problem never was the production it always was D&D
The first season had zero epic battles, no dragon CGI, and still managed to be one of the best seasons of television. They went completely in the other direction, upping the production budget but throwing the writing out of the window.
Even the production team screwed up leaving cups and bottles around while filming scenes

The show where he slayed his king to save hundreds of thousands of innocent people. The show where he jumped in front of a bear to save Brienne. The show where he gave his Valyrian steel sword to Brienne in hopes of fulfilling his promise to Catelyn. The show where he went to fight an army of undead with one hand simply because it was the right thing to do.
