- A Wintry Solo Mountain Camp in the MSR Access 1 ...... Winter is on the way
In this video, I head into the mountains of the Lake District National Park in a new tent which I am testing, the MSR Access 1. This is marketed as a 4 season tent. It is lightweight and robust. I was very impressed and will complete a full review in due course.
The temperatures plummeted as the sun set and the stars and milky way were shining bright in the night sky. The winds picked up ahead of an approaching weather front and the tent experienced some buffeting winds the next day ahead of the front.
I also used the Thermarest NeoAir XTHERM NXT MAX for the first time and I was impressed with the warmth, thickness and overall comfort of the mat. It's an expensive undertaking, but a long term investment if you're keen to camp through the colder months of the year.
I was treated to a stunning sunrise in the bitingly cold, still air and it was spectacular to watch from the comfort of the tent. As always, a few craft beers and rambling tent talks along the way.
I'll be announcing the winner of the 1L MSR Reactor stove in the next video - so stay tuned and be sure to watch the entire video as you never know where the next giveaway will be buried!
Thank you for watching and I'll see you on the next adventure, Chris.

Just got in from work, had a tough day today. Lost my older brother recently and it’s still very hard. Thanks for bringing this piece of peace to my evening. Bless you mate. ATB - Simon 🙏
Sorry to hear that mate - keep busy and the outdoors is definitely a place for peace and healing. ATB, Chris
Hello brother. I wish you well. If won’t be easy, you’ll never forget but it will get better. A little bit at a time. Have a good one 👍🏼God Bless
Sorry to hear of your loss Simon, indeed getting out there helps the grieving along with time.
wishing you all the best for the future.
Totally agree Chris about Autum & winter camping being special , my favourite time mate
Definitely mine! Thank you for watching mate!
Ay up me duck, been awhile.
Still watching and enjoying your videos me owd cocka.
Ay a good'un 🙂👍
Good man and thank you! ATB
That's a lovely looking tent, I started off camping with the understanding that a two person tent was a must for wild camping. Over the past year I've been loving using one person tents. Lighter, smaller footprint and all the shelter that you need.
Can I ask, how do you rate your flat cap? Have you ever waxed it? I'm considering getting one but I'm unsure. Cheers and video was class 🍀
Cheers for watching. Cap is great, I have lots of caps, hats - you name it. This is warm and comfortable, whilst still having the peak to offer some protection. Can recommend.
Great camp mate. I’ve been away from wild camping for most of 2023 due to personal circumstances and just looking to get back out. Catching up with your most recent camps has given me the drive to get back out there again. Merry Christmas and a happy new year. Al.
All the best and HNY to you too mate
Absolutely beautiful place! Well done 👍👏🍻........did you end up putting a bit of Motown on? 😄
😅 I did - was a top night out Ted. Thanks as always for taking time out to comment
Really cool tent mate. Fantastic location too. Enjoyed that. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it mate
A nice shout out to Going Solo YT channel (Todd).
That guy is one talented cook. He is Premier League cuisine, you (and I) are Vauxhall Conference!!! I'm happy if I can bring my water to a rolling boil!! Ha ha!! Nice video. Nice tent. It'll be interesting to hear your thoughts on it after some strong winds are put to it. I've often wondered if inner pitch first tents are inherently weaker in strong wind then an exoskeleton design like the Hilleberg Soulo or the TN Southern Cross....
Nice video.
Regards, Wadi.
Thanks for watching mate - I just like the ease and simplicity of those dehydrated meals - just so easy. I don't think the strength of the likes of the Soulo can be beaten, especially with the 10mm DAC poles. The pole system on this seems pretty robust, I'll review it in a standalone video after a few more camps.
Doth ones cap sir, excellent footage, lovely spot and great scenic shots...nothing wrong in a bit of Kings college creeping up to 'C'
Had to laugh earlier watching another 'rival' trying to take you and PM accents off, too much IPA I think.
Great content though Chris.
All the very best all
Haha, cheers George - I spent a good hour or so exchanging WhatsApp messages with Mr Wardle - we always have a good laugh on our camps even if we're not camping together. He's got the 'Queen of Scotty Road' down to a tee. Thanks for watching mate
Cant stand opening the meals in bags, they never work properly. Get yourself a lightweight bowl and decant into that. It's a game changer, really is! Roll on winter ❄️😊 Great vid as usual 👍
Cheers mate, the rip off never works out! I couldn't be bothered making another dirty dish to clean up! Thanks for watching pal - atb!
I prefer the cold of winter camping. I’d go to the woods in the summer. Thanks for sharing those epic views 👍🏼
Absolutely the best time to camp. ATB and thanks for your comment.
Enjoyed this one nice and relaxing the type camps I'd like to do you must take 5 hats every camp😂 liked your fjallraven flat cap very smart on my list just got the byron beanie it's ultra warm you pay for fjallraven but lasts forever
Haha, hats are important to me! They make some decent gear, I like Scandinavian brands - they know their outdoors
Some lovely shots there Chris - your filmography is top notch. Nice tent as well - bit on the snug side for me as I prefer a 2 person tent for solo camping. Managed to get out myself up to Langdale last weekend, weather was amazing, cold night and a frozen tent in the morning but well worth it!! But now my banister is taken over with a tent drying out 😂
Can't beat the wet tent drying regime! Glad you had a great camp! ATB
Thanks for sharing looks a decent tent do you think you will try it on harsh weather conditions?
I absolutely will mate - depends what weather happens on my limited free time at the moment. If I'm free, I'm out no matter what - so all depends on the weather gods.
Great video mate very relaxing watch. I've a helm one and the issues I have with it are my head touches the innertop when im on my matt (6ft1 I am) and the saginess at either end of the inner, the acess is very similar in shape and size but without the helm ones problems proper shame about the colour or I'd 100% buy it . Top tent and top review pal.
Was impressed - they do it in a kind of olive colour too - so all good on that front 👍 thank you for watching mate
Top quality video as per usual.
Really look forward to your content
Cheers Martyn
Yeh with you on the winter camps, just about to finish the Wainwright C2C and the weather has been pretty unpredictable most days but nothing better getting pitched up and climbing into your tent on a winters night!
Can't beat that feeling! Good luck and well done on your C2C achievement that you're about to complete 👍
Love watching your informative reviews and camping vlogs. Keep up the great work 👏👏🙏
Thank you! Will do!
For Janice Black read Michael….sent on her I pad
Cheers!
Amazing video. I can't wait for the next one
Thank you for watching 👍
An inspiring adventure... Real good room for a one man tent.
Cheers Dom, deceptively large inside
Winter month's have to be great for yourself, out there, hardly no one around, good for you mate, and you can't go wrong with sausage and beans, you should buy some tins of Branston sausage & beans, stick them in a plastic container, take them with you on a camp, heat up... simple, tasty and effective 👌🏻
Back to basics food wise - I always used to buy that meal. Was a great little one night escape 👌
Chris love your videos very nicely done 👍
Thank you 👌
Wonderful looking camp that Chris and that tent looks top notch. That MSR gear looks top notch. Views were great and that weather was fantastic and you caught the best of it. I have a powerbank that doubles up as a hand warmer and they are brilliant & for the extra weight, defo worth it for keeping that body warmth and back up power. Fab camera work again. Thnx for taking us up there on your journey. Keep up the good work pal
Thanks as always mate for your support of the channel and taking time out to comment. It's always appreciated. ATB 👍
Great video, really enjoyed it.
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for leaving a comment
MSR are the only tents I've never fancied. Always appear too sappy when push comes to shove and the access in particular is a very expensive tent. Doesn't do enough for the money I guess.
Definitely hitting the better camping months now too mate, love it!
Hope you and your guys are well,
Adge.
Alright mate! I like the Tindheim and this one.... It's very sturdy. An Abisko Lite 1 is the same price now and this has bags more room. Horses for courses I guess!
I'm saving for a Nammatj, may be a while 😅
Atb mate
They've all gone mad price wise I think. It's actually embarrassing.......but we love them so will always buy them 🤣
Nammatj is a beauty!
Adge
What a view! Totally amazing. A snap of chilly weather didn't hurt anyone, but as you say use the right gear for the conditions and you won't get cold 👍.
Bugger that it didn't snow however, I'm on snow watch already and apparently we are having a few snow falls coming in from Canada... can't wait 😊.
I'm off to the peaks next week in my van for a few nights and definitely looking forward to that.
Fab camp and love that tent.
Nice! Enjoy the Peaks Jane and I hope you get some snow on your trip! Have fun!
Cheers Chris and I'd loveeee some snow 😊
😂👍 Nothing wrong with a dehydrated meal! Appreciate the shoutout buddy! Nice beer selection. I haven’t tried that chocolate stout yet. You got a really beautiful morning. Hope next time I get out there I can get some cold clear skies. Enjoyed the video as always!
You're welcome mate. I've touched lucky on my last few camps. My free time is a total unknown at the moment, so hoping for some snow and ice when I manage to get out next. Thanks for watching & ATB
@@MCMOutdoors hoping for some nice snow camps this year as well! We shall see 🤞❄️.
Yes, fingers crossed mate. Looking forward to your next vid. Spk soon 👍
This was brilliant. The tent looks a tool!! Love that high bath tub and presumably that’s why they can afford to not have fly flush to the floor. Clever design - maximising ventage on a 4 season. I know folk
will say about spin drift. They love saying the word itself - like we all live in Norway or something lol. Totally identify with wot you say about people who can’t/won’t camp and endurance and I don’t get it either!! 😂😂😂
Haha, quality. Yeah, usually the fly would be straight to the deck - I was surprised at that, but at the end of the day - it aids air flow. The design seems great. There's more room in this than my Hille Soulo - plus additional guy out points. Thanks for watching mate
@@MCMOutdoorsexactly! And I was looking at it and straight away making comparisons to my Soulo - which I love btw and won’t be getting rid of but I really like the look of this, looks rad! Nice one Chris👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
@@JackKlumpass cheers man 👍
Nice 1
Thanks for watching

Thanks for watching!
Brilliant video yet again Chris. Cool looking tent and a beautiful pitch. How would u rate the Hestra mitts for warmth compared to a down mitt like the Montane antifreeze mitt. My next purchase is definitely a pair of mitts, for sitting in the tent. Ive also looked at the Hestra Windstopper pullover mitts to help with a bit dexterity. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. 👍
Not tried any Montane mitts - the only montane gloves I've ever tried where prism - they fell apart on the first use out with Wardle and Ant - coating on fingers crumbled off. Hestra make some of the finest, most hard wearing gloves IMHO. These mitts are very, very warm.
@@MCMOutdoors Pleased u mentioned the Prism gloves because I nearly bought a pair. Cheers mate and keep up with the excellent work ur doing on your channel. 👍
Do u also have a link for the mitts mate 👍

Thanks again for going to the effort to make these great informative videos. I use a lot of your ideas on my channel. Thanks❤
Great to hear and you're very welcome 👌
Nice video and tent is looking good 👍🙂
Thanks for watching mate!

Hiya Chris ..catching up on your videos as been busy ....That looked like a cracking spot and perfect conditions...I had a great time on st sunday and fairfields last month ive gotta get back up there more ...keep up the great work you make excellent vids👍🏻😁👍🏻
Thanks for the kind words mate ! ATB
Looked like you really enjoyed that one Chris. Cracking video as per. Thanks for sharing 👌
Glad you enjoyed it mate
I have held of getting an MSR because of the inner pitch first... i just dont see that system working in the UK?
Plenty of inner pitch first tents here in the UK. Fine if it's not raining, if it is - this has a waterproof coating.
Great trip, thnx for sharing dude. Pristine setup. ✌🏼💯👊🏼
Glad you enjoyed it mate. ATB
My poles craked after 4 hours and bended like a fynky chicken In 15m/s . So sad , I loved the msr acsess 3😢 but just for a few hours. No support from msr to Get new poles and their customer support was the badest I have ever had . So back to bergans, helsport and barents tents that work I harsh Norwegian winter
Find this very surprising. Why did your poles on a brand new tent break and why would a global company just ignore you?
Brilliant video mate. How did you find the MSR stove. Thinking about getting a new cook system but so many options. The tent looks very interesting. When are you going to do a review on it?
Once again mate a cracking video. Keep up the great work
Need a good few camps in it in varying conditions before I can give a full view on it...... stove is ace. Had one for years mate! Ultimate water boiler.
I like the tent but to be honest not the colour but a nice small pack size is a big bonus, as was the room inside. Honest review on the pump and a real fail, so the sooner they introduce the USB version the better I think. As it was getting dark the views were great and defo different than in the summer but winter camping, not for me and I have seen those hand warmers before, something that would be very useful on a winter camp. I have used a 'Look What We Found' as a snack before but cannot get away with any boil in the bag as a proper meal and on the (only) wildcamp I did this year with my mate, we had intended to cook steak and all the trimmings but a couple of hundred yards from where we parked was a great country pub so we ended up in there for food and had a boss burger and chips with a canny couple of pints too - no washing up either. I love Carols from Kings on Christmas Eve, really gets me in the Christmas mood! Amazing morning to wake up too, shame the bad weather is moving in, cheers Alan
Cheers Al, you know me! I just like being out in a tent no matter what! This time of year is definitely the best for wild camping! Thanks for watching mate
My MSR is my favourite allrounder and is accessible (price wise) to most. MSR Access would be nice, if only for the headroom and space. My current 4 season tent is a Ferrino Solo. It's definitely small but cosy, thanks to the foil lining. Looking forward to getting out in it again. Stay safe Chrislad👊🏻
Head room is ace! All around due to the steep walls. Looking forward to seeing what it can handle wind wise! Atb pal
I'm very impressed with that MSR tent mate, from the size of it inside with that headroom to the massive bath tub!
I can say I wasn't impressed the same with the Flextail pump, definitely not ready for sale just yet is it mate.
Nice pitch up, great weather for it and a few beers with relaxing music and cold nights! Loved it pal.
P.s. was that me texting you when you were talking to camera lol I could hear your phone going off, if it was, sorry matey 😅
Haha, I think it was mate! Impressed with the tent so far. Loads of useable space. Pump was a total disappointment sadly. Second time that too. Very relaxing camp mate.
Hi Chris, another cracking video,It has given me a spur to get the Allak 2 out and head up onto the West Pennine moors again with my Grandson.
Shame about the Flextail, I’m going to purchase the older version i.e. with the light and pump combined looks a lot more versatile to me.
I didn’t have much luck with my single hand held Ocoopa ,I had it in my chest pocket wrapped inside its own bag but somehow there must have been some condensation in the pocket and consequently it stopped the warmer from working. Needless to say I sent it back and was given a full refund (purchased on Amazon).Maybe bump into you some time on the moors….you never know.
Yes, my older pump from them is fantastic, no complaints whatsoever - shame about the issues with this version. ATB mate and thanks for watching
Top top video as usual Chris. Magical place there for sure. And a few magical beers to add to it!! Keep up the good work
Thanks, will do!
Saturday just gone was one of the best days, condition wise, I’ve ever been walking in. Did bow fell and the crinkles. Cold air, blue skies and hardly any wind. Bit of snow up top too. That pitch looked amazing mate. Great video 👍🏼
Can't beat those type of mountain days!
Brilliant again and yet I wanted to see the unedited version of the "flextail" meltdown.
Haha that's in the potential bloopers reel for Xmas 😅
Great video mate, that buzzing high pitch sound is the same sound I hear when the wife comes camping but she hasn't got one of those air pump, strange😂 ATB mate 🍻
Hahaha 😅 thanks for watching! ATB
Great video Chris nice one, can't go wrong with an MSR tent
Absolutely pal
Great vid mate how did you get on with the tent my mate had the access 2 but sold it no ventilation and massive condensation
Thanks mate, tent was great as per the vid? Cheers for watching
Really enjoyed that vid mate - looks like a great location that! Got to be honest - prefer the Soulo but interesting to see other tents. 🍺🍺🍺
Cheers Graham - can never try out too many tents - I love testing them all! If it's a tent, I'm in 😅 thanks for watching pal! 🌅👍
Great video Chris the tent looks awesome quite like the colour as well looked cosy, just ordered the hand warmers I have Raynaud’s disease so these should do the trick so thanks Chris for the review look forward to your next adventure 👍👍
Cheers Mark - they're decent, good quality too. I spend a lot of time outside taking photos and video, so these maximise the time I can comfortably spend doing that. Thanks for watching pal
Are the naturehike down pants a good purchase Chris? Thinking on getting a pair. Thanks for the video
They're superb for the £..... Game changers for winter camps
@@MCMOutdoors great, I'll get a pair so. Thanks
Nice vid. 😊
That tent looks pretty good. If it was in sand, it would be ace. Beautiful weather Chris and stunning views in all directions. Question! Do you do Yoga? We can’t believe how low you can get your knees to the ground when sitting cross legged! Very flexible hips mate! Great video as always 👌
Cheers Joe. Haha, I've no idea - it's weird. The goat always wonders how I can sit completely cross legged and be comfy, no idea. I think all the craft beer has weighed heavily on my joints and slackened them off 😅
@@MCMOutdoors lol, that’s got to be it mate, the beers the way to go instead of yoga 😂
😅 Haha, yep! Cheers pal
Another quality video. Thanks, Chris.
Glad you enjoyed it Stu and thanks for leaving a comment

Brilliant video Chris and a cracking new tent , any news on your kestrel yet ?
Kestrel is well and truly lost - it's dropped off my bag mate
@@MCMOutdoors
That makes me feel sick
I’d be right back up there on the hunt ,
@Leeslost no chance of that mate. Work long hours through the week and have my son with me. It's gone.
@@MCMOutdoors absolutely gutted for you bud ,
Throw a AirTag on the next one
Another inspiring video, thanks Chris. Were the Nature Hike down pants any good?
Used them for a few years now. They're superb mate. Very good value too. Can highly recommend for winter camping 👌
@@MCMOutdoors nice one Chris, I’ll get them ordered before they sell out as a result of your recommendation 👍🏻😁
@jezg1667 you will love them. Game changers for the colder weather. I just wear a pair of Ronhills under them - enjoy!
Just pausing on the flelxtail bit, Andrew Beavers said the exact same thing. Seems they've completely messed this one up. The one that's also a lamp looks ok but I wouldn't get one. Don't like the noise, the inflation bag works perfectly well, only takes a minute and will never need recharging. I like my gadgets but these pumps are completely unnecessary imo.
Yes, this is the second one that's failed. Something up with the design. I've got the tiny pump which I think you're referring to, that's ace. Works well. Definitely unnecessary weight though. Pump sack does the job, weighs next to nothing.
@@MCMOutdoors Good video Chris, just finished now, you had some lovely weather for it, I'll have to try the fudge Northern Monk, looks nice hasn't heard of that one before.
It's a rich one mate, worth a try. Thank you for watching 👍
Absolutely boss Chris from Simon Birtles as my profile has reverted back👍👍
Thanks for checking in mate.... 👍
Hi Chris another cracking video!! Tent looks fab!! Can't beat Winter camping😊 Thanks for sharing 👍
Nice one Pat - thanks for watching mate!
Chris, followed MCM for years. I know you have an Arsenal of some pretty serious tents as do I, so you don't have to justify anything. My mate has a 2020 version of this tent and it isn't a 4 season tent. Its versatile, clever, light, quality construction from a very well respected manufacturer, and as you say condensation management is brilliant. When the rubber hits the road however, its a strong 3 season in the real world IMHO. Good review and gorgeous scenery. ATB pal.
I think the fly sheet on the older model did extend all the way to the floor ? It would collect snow in the vestibule but the bathtub is very high. I was made up with the amount of room inside, only a small pack size and light too - poles are carbon 'easton syclone' on a hub system. Looking forward to seeing how it handles strong winds. It's definitely marketed as '4 season' like the Scarp ...... so let's see
A fantastic tent chris absolutely love the colour and the size ...another stunning camp and as always appreciate your time sharing it cheers and all the best marra 😃🏕⛰
Glad you enjoyed it Gary and hope you're well mate. Packs small and light yet really pleasant to be inside due to the room and height. ATB mate
Great vid Chris. i spotted the Enigma quilt there too so looking forward to hearing your views on that. I have only used mine once and i was mega impressed with how quickly it lofts up and i used the EE Revolution Apex ( Synthetic over it) which worked a treat with just wearing a set of base layers. Ive fancied the Access 1 myself because i have the MSR Hubba NX and thats always been good in moderate to strongish winds and like the Access 1 its a great 1 man tent in terms of space. I haven't committed to buying one because i have got 2 Hilleberg 4 season tents and for the nastiest of weather i want to be able to pitch in one so thats that inner first element thats stopped me from buying but i am looking forward to seeing how well it copes in the thick of winter or more so in heavy winds. I guess when there is snow on the ground the fact that it doesn't go all the way to the ground will not be a big issue because the snow will fill that space once it's pegged out . Good luck with your next trials/ adventures with it ;)
Yeah, cheers Olan. My mate had the Access 1 years ago and I wasn't sure about it. When I pegged out the footprint, I thought it was going to be very claustrophobic - but was genuinely pleasantly surprised as it's massive inside! The only other MSR tents I've tried are the Tindheim 2 - a beast - and the Elixir 2 which I was impressed with. These poles are top spec and made by Easton so in theory, should have some longevity about them. I think spindrift will easily accumulate in the porch, but will have to see. If I'm free when the next storm / snow hits, we will see what it can do. The quilt is ace, bought as a treat around my birthday - absolutely toasty yet compacts very small and light. Top quality. ATB pal
Hi Chris loved the latest vid, also loved the features on the Access 1, loved the set up. I have a pair of the Hestra mitts, best ones I've ever owned mate. As ever a great content 👍
Great to hear you enjoyed it. Will get the tent out in some more testing weather and see how it goes. They make some superb gloves. I bought an expensive pair of Montane Prism gloves and they fell apart after one camp, all the coating on the fingers rubbed off - so I invested in a decent pair which are very warm and put together very well; I'm sure they will last many many years and therefore pay for themselves due to not replacing them.
Nice one Chris
Stunning vid and great spot mate.
Cheers Graham
Nice one mate - great to see a little preview of the colder weather!
@@MCMOutdoors
Yeh defo mate love winter camping 👍👌
Many thanks for the video the tent looked warm and cosy with the lamp glowing in it!
Thanks for watching! Was a really relaxing camp 👍
You should've used the inflation bag that comes with the mat, you can use it as a dry-bag inside your backpack..... There's too much "pressure", I think, on buying electrics for wild camping/hiking...... I fell into that trap at the beginning of my adventures. All I take now is a sat communicator, little radio, headlight & phone, that's it. I'm not attacking you Chris or being obnoxious for the sake of it, just my observations, but a lot of the kit you have & use is vastly over spec for the type of adventures that you go on....... I know it's great to have the latest, the best and if you can afford it then no problem whatsoever...... But a lot of people, especially over the last 24mths, see all of this and feel that they need the Fjallraven blah blah, or the Hestra chow chow because the CheaperChineseImport that they can afford isn't up to the job....... I know this because I've talked to them and was one of them.
I know you are sent a lot of kit to review and I enjoy those reviews because you are totally impartial, a la the Flextail pump in this video, and again, that is great for a lot of people, being able to see reviews and decide whether to buy that thing or not, (just going back to that air pump, their other ones have a built-in light, this one doesn't so you'd need to bring a tent-light too, if you don't use your head torch as a tent-light.... bizarre) but a lot of video creators within this 'scene' are becoming more like shopping channels than outdoor adventure channels.
As I said, not an attack on you, I love your channel and the content you provide and have been with you for a wee while. Just my observations...... that, at the end of the day, count for nowt! 🙂 ATB
Thanks for watching mate. I've always tested and reviewed gear throughout my videos - totally consistent in that regard and I'll continue to so, as that's what I enjoy. Never said you need fancy stuff to go wild camping, which of course you don't. The basics are just fine and that's all I had for many many years.
Fully aware that some of the things I have are 'overkill', but again - I take them because I want to and always pay the weight penalty.
There's not much else to film unless you talk about the gear you're using to be fair. It forms a lot of the content.
Atb, Chris
Ps, on the mat - yes, I would have but I left it at home as I was counting on this pump 🙄
Yes, fair enough Chris...... And I'm glad you've taken my comment(s) in the spirit in which they were written. ATB. @@MCMOutdoors
I'm a very basic camper, I take a lot of cheap and cheerful gear and alot of the time you pay the price. We all know the saying, you buy cheap you buy twice and that as certainly happened to me a few times.
It's a personal choice to head out the door with a heavy pack, I too enjoy a comfortable camp with certain things you can do without, I go overkill on food, I take out a stove that's 10kg for a hot tent camp but it's not really cold, I just enjoy the comforts on a camp.
I personally enjoy the hi-tech gear reviews that Chris does as I've never seen or heard of some of the stuff he brings out. There's plenty of times I've looked at the wife and said, there's a Christmas present for me if your struggling haha.
Yeah it is tough times for a lot of people but I think it depends on the person watching it. If your that type of person who gets jealous easily I'd stay away from kit reviews like this if it doesn't bother you, enjoy it and just have a nice dream about opening a orange MSR tent 🙂
No worries mate - I say at the end of lots of my videos that you don't need to spend a lot on gear, just to get yourself out there is all that matters. I also think that's reflected in how I talk about my enjoyment of being outdoors, which I'm very passionate about.
Unfortunately, it's difficult when making outdoor content to actually get new content, without talking about some gear and items you're sent - invariably if your channels become more successful, people send kit to test out; which as an outdoor gear junkie, is always nice.
I started wild camping when I was 14, part time job and I bought the basics, mainly army surplus. It's only now around 27 years later that I can afford some more expensive items - as ever, none of these things are necessary, but if you can afford it and you enjoy something usually put together better, or can stand up to worse weather, then all good.
I own lots of more 'budget friendly' items, but find myself using items which I feel are better quality and I make those decisions through my experience of testing, trying and using loads of different bits of kit over the years. Hestra make superb gloves, Hilleberg make superb tents - but they're expensive. Necessary, no - it's the age old thing isn't it. UK conditions can be pretty brutal, I put myself out there whenever I get free time (very limited now) which coincides with bad weather, as I enjoy camping in storms - so I think decent gear is needed for when these conditions occur or you're intentionally heading out to push yourself a bit.
I never pressure anyone to purchase anything, I don't talk about affiliate links and actually can never be bothered to post or register to post affiliate links - I just enjoy trying new things and making different content.
Hopefully catch you in the next video pal.
Another great video, Chris! That tent is a nice one. Interior dimensions, especially the height make it very accommodating. Sad about the second air pump. I see that model getting mixed reviews from others as it makes the rounds. Always impressed how you motivate people to get out there and enjoy the great outdoors. Wonderful scenery and atmospheric beauty in this adventure. Thanks for taking us along.
No worries, thank you for watching. Very disappointing re the pump. Needs a better look at QC I think. The pump sack does the job at the end of the day, but sometimes the convenience and speed of the elec pumps are great. Tent first impressions are superb.
