- Armenia’s first passport-registered transgender woman has received death threats following an impassioned parliamentary speech. Lilit Martirosyan became the first member of the country’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex community to take to the parliamentary podium, speaking out against discrimination at a session before the committee on human rights. The speech, delivered a fortnight ago, has sparked a vicious backlash in Armenia, where homosexuality has been decriminalised but discrimination against LGBTQI people remains rife

As an Armenian, I feel awful when I see how bad the situation is

Unfortunately, in Armenia you have serious crimes problems, that are committed so brutally. And I also saw the same problem against Azrbijanis , that Armenia targeted Azrbijani cities during the war in October. Hope you'll solve this soon.

So obvious what you can here to do. Don't forget which side started that conflict. (Turks and Azeri) do you only "say what you see" from one side? Or did you not see the other sides horrendous violations. I remember looking at the comments 2 years ago and EVERY Armenian was homophobic and transphobic but now I don’t really see the same dynamic I hope most have come to realize that they were wrong, and hopefully all Armenians will have full rights one day regardless of sexuality or gender ✊🏼🏳️🌈

We wonder why the planet is in such dire straits. Live and let live. Stop judging other people by your own standards. Humanity is a huge melting pot. The hate in the voice of the women in charge who no doubt suffers little violence and discrimination was appalling. And for the person who said in the comments "go to the Uk" Funny so many people want to go to Uk because of our way of life, laws, respect for all others. It is because they respect all human rights, have laws for people who don't, have age old traditions that are expected to be followed in their country and they pay a living wage. All these other antiquated male dominated countries should try the same democracy and respect.

It takes a lot of courage to be a pioneering voice for the voiceless, I admire this wonderful woman and hope there comes a time when LGBTQIA+ people are protected in Armenia and the world.

She may not have been born as a cis female, yet she has transitioned, perceives herself as a woman, lives her life as a woman, therefore she is a woman in my mind. But regardless of all that, what she talks about here isn't about gender identity, but rather about basic human rights many trans people are bereft of in Armenia and the political inaction and hostility to trans issues, as demonstrated by the ferocious reaction of an Armenian parliamentarian here. If you uphold personal liberty and international human rights as lustrous values, you will agree, regardless of what you think about her gender identity.

Everyone has the right to a decent and dignifying life. Everyone has the right to be loved and to love and be respected as a human being entitled to be what she is and to live with no shame. Lilit is an example, among others, of courage. The world has to be with her, she deserves our respect and our voice against discrimination and violence against the individual. Lilit keep on fighting, get together with ones who love and respect you. You are an example to follow.

In many countries transgender are diagnosed with a mental illness and thus the surgeries are paid by insurances.

I honestly find it hard to change he from she or to whatever it just goes against everything. Where does transgender come Does anyone know the origin of this. Also I dont give a donkeys about drag but when you try to implement this type of gender switch up thing into daily life it just wont work not where I'm from at least.
It's been discovered that transgenderism isn't genetic, but that's literally all we know about what causes it. We know it's not because they were all raised in gender neutral homes because there are trans people in places like Saudi Arabia were sexism is worse than anywhere else.
