    One of the main reasons for using a single mono is, to look for overlapping frequences . Mud removal.

    I agree with all you said dude. Been using the Avantones for five years. Great cross reference monitors and with a Mackie Big Knob you can switch them to a pseudo mono set up.

      I use one MIxcube, no point in two in my opinion if your only going to be mixing in mono. I use with a Big knob passive and it has really helped my mixes. I check the low end and overall mix on my EX66s and its all good.

    I find mixing in mono is best for getting levels and such. Also, hearing reverb trailing and such.

    Mixing in Mono is Beyond Important. All Major Engineers mix in mono. Everything is in monon When you go to a resturant, the mall, a waiting room in a dental office. Speakers are never properly placed. You should be mixing in mono at least 50 percent of the time so it translates properly to all systems.

    • @ImChrisStrei
      @ImChrisStrei 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I was just talking with someone today who said mixing in mono will also highlight any phasing issues for you to fix, but would mixing in mono also help with levels?

    • @DayTrax1
      @DayTrax1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@ImChrisStrei yes because all the frequencies and now stacked on top of each other. You will be able to tell if some of the sounds are fighting/clashing together. Also what a lot of people might not know is if your sound is too spread out or widened, they might not even play when switched to mono. Best thing to do is just use both methods.

      Agree 100% - there is a reason that all the expensive consoles and mixers have a mono output. This helps identify phase issues especially important for any recording made using a stereo pair of microphones. For electronic produced music I’d say it’s less important but still important as some plugins and effects etc can introduce phase issues

    I'm seriously considering using these. I often will mix with a low pass and high pass filter for an articulation pass.

    Music in clubs/bars are played back in mono.

    • @TheEpicAndrew
      @TheEpicAndrew 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hell no, clubs with proper sound system are in stereo. Yes it happens some venues go for mono if acoustics don’t allow proper stereo (or they lack knowledge how to set it up), but it’s not a rule.
      Hail music clubs with proper sound system 🙌

    • @Erliortmejurur

      @@TheEpicAndrew it’s not about the soundsystem, it’s about the room. Most clubs are in mono, but some amphitheaters use stereo.

      Another issue these help with is that most multispeaker monitors have a midrange problem: there's a crossover that allows the right frequencies to be sent to each speaker in the cabinet. Highs go to the tweeter, mids and bass go to the woofer (or some bigger monitors have a separate midrange driver, plus if you have a subwoofer it will have its own crossover or lowpass filter). There is some smearing of the sound or maybe a bump or dip that occurs where the crossover points are which makes it difficult to hear details in those frequency ranges. These mixcubes only have one speaker and no crossover so you don't have to worry about any of that.

    Your not entirely correct about the reasons for mixing in mono. Arguably one of the most important steps for clear mixes. You can really dial the eqs of each instrument when frequencies clashing.

    Great set up, but I recommend just using one mix cube. One of the points of having a gritbox is being able to hear what you’re doing in mono. Sell one of them. Haha.

    • @brandonmason388
      @brandonmason388 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly would you though? I’m not trying to be mean, I’m just considering the intended propose. There not the cheapest things. If you want a dual signal, I’d just grab a crappy boom box or computer speakers. Producing a multi mono signal isn’t the same as a single source speaker.

    Curious why you got the mix cubes? The Yammies already have pretty harsh mid / low output bass. Personally I think the mix cubes are beat for people who have Adam audio or JBL or some type of monitor that has bass in it.

      If you knew anything about mixing, you would know that mixing is a very subjective thing. How do you know he's an amature... Your comment seems very much a projective type of comment. And LOL on your comment about mixing in mono. Its not NEEDED, tell CLA or any other top mixer in the world that because they don't mix in mono they're mixes dont translate. I mean come on man....

    Ahahah these sound so like phones and tvs ahahah. These are so good for fixing mixes though and I heard some in the studio at the Music School I went to. Guitar and bass is Mono usually, rarely do you see a stereo amp setup and that is fine with me. In a mix you could add more guitar tracks than one for a stereo effect.
