Almost unbelievable that the mechanic would not wear shoe protectors or gloves when entering a brand new $125,000 dollar vehicle. I'd be furious.

    • @SevenSummersAgo
      @SevenSummersAgo ปีที่แล้ว +47

Same! The least the mechanic could have done is wear gloves and covers on his boots/shoes to protect the vehicle from getting grease stains! Thankfully Mitch was able to get those stains cleaned up.

This is not how dealerships operate normally. All of this is usually peeled off by a specific tech at that dealer and inspected before putting it on the lot for sale and then quickly cleaned before put on the lot. This person wisely told the dealer to not touch it at all other than to PDI the vehicle

90% comes from transport to the dealers. Working in a high volume dealership for 8 years I saw some pretty terrible condition vehicles where the transport drivers would get mud and salt in the winter to the point of dripping off the pedals....

it's highly advised for any new car owner to get it to a detailer before anything else. this is the right time to look into how to best conserve the new car look. a lot can be done regarding protection at this very early stage-maintaining resale value.

Most of these cars are on a truck driving through freeways with all kinds of oils, rocks, dirt, water, and metals being thrown at it. If the vehicle was manufactured overseas, its getting salt on it as well. No way to get the vehicle perfect unless its going into an enclosed truck from the moment it leaves the factory.

This is odd to me, you'd expect that by spending money on a brand new car, the dealership would provide you with a detailed car that doesn't contain the plastics or even slight dirt. For me, this would be unacceptable. I bought a brand new Mitsubishi many, many years ago. I got a super detailed car with wax protection, not a single grain of dust or filth, a champaign bottle and a giant bouquet of flowers and the car wasn't premium.

In California dealer prep charges can go up as high as $1000 USD without ceramic coating (those are extra). I hope this owner paid you close to that amount.
Also it's insane to think about the $50k difference between Canadian dollar and US dollar of this vehicle's value.

It was weird not seeing all the 'brown' dripping down onto the ground or from the wheel wells. THIS WAS COOL! So much goes into 'prepping' for sure! Gotta ask - were You nervous? PHENOMINAL job as always - tks for sharing this!!!!

Not a professional shop. One of the first things I’ve learned in my automotive class I’m taking is you need to keep your hands and body clean. Don’t roll around on the ground, use a creeper. Wear gloves. And treat the car with respect. Don’t get your nasty finger marks everywhere. The owner of the vehicle could make them replace items that have been damaged by oils

I will tell you I've worked at 5 different Dealerships none of the Technicians wear gloves or protective equipment or clean shoes or anything every time I receive a vehicle. It is always dirty looks like it's been. Driven 3 or 400 miles. Even though It has 16 miles on the clock. What should take me 15 minutes to get to the? Customer turns into forty five minutes of bull

I have a buddy who's dad owned a Chevrolet dealership. I guess naively I assumed that all new cars are flawless. From being exposed to my friend's dad's dealership I learned just how filthy new cars can be when they come off the truck. They absolutely need to be thoroughly cleaned before being sold.

GM still using cheap plastics and lower level faux trimmings in their cars and asking 170,000 for it? I guess they haven't learnt a damn thing. The owner must of saved quite a bit without having a "full" PDI done. Good on them. I can't imagine the cost alone for this vehicle. Its insane how much they charge potential customers. I used to do this work. Those sheets of plastic and foam pads put just about everywhere were not always fun to remove. Especially if the vehicle was outside for quite some time. The glue on the sheets can melt away on the body of the car and its time consuming and pain to remove. Nicely done though . Looks great !

$125k Cadillac gets carpet that matches the upholstery. My $42k Buick gets black carpet instead of shale color to match the seats. I hate black carpet. Shows all the dirt and is dark and dreary. I did buy some aftermarket shale carpet mats which makes it look somewhat better.

Unpopular opinion: I think there's no reason for anyone out there to buy a car that costs as much as a house. It's both unaffordable for most people, and a jerk fest for rich people. Real innovation in cars help everyone, not just people who have privilege. I'm an engineer and there's no way a vehicle like this would ever be allowed to be mass produced if this wasn't strictly marketed for rich people. What a waste..

if this were my luxury vehicle i paid a ton of money for, that dealership would be getting a poor review and a bill for the detailing with lots of before pictures. This is incredibly unproffessional of the mechanic and I'd make sure everyone knew how their vehicle would be treated.

I did all this at a GM dealer about 20 years ago. I was always so cautious to touch only where the protective wrap was, and they were like $20000 cars… I’m shocked to see the state of the floor and door on this $170000 Escalade. At the same time though, the ENTIRE floor area should’ve been protected as the door from the factory for that price especially.

    Thank you for showing this.
I stained my Prius Softex White interior with new jeans and still haven’t gotten it all off. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thankfully I did have a partial seat cover on so it wasn’t the whole seat, but until I know how to get the stain out I don’t want to be too aggressive.
Once it’s out I will for sure seal it!
